Material Editor

I just had a CRAZY idea! What if MM could add a material editor, that allowed a lot of cuztomization? Some examples of properties that could be changed are: Friction, Direction of gravity, Weight, Bouciness, Reflectancy, Transparency,Collide(Could be set to collide with objects, sackpeople, both, or neither.), Static(just like the psp version), etc. etc. Another idea is that an object could be set as the center of gravity, so that you could walk all the way around it like in Super Mario Galaxy! To make it better you could select the radius of the gravity(so if you jumped too far away gravity would return to normal) and the strength of the gravity itself! Does this sound good far my first idea? | 2010-09-12 20:39:00 Author: Green-Tomato Posts: 140 |
I'm pretty sure some vidoes from conventions and some people from the Jam have indeeedd confirmed this feature already, no? (The fricction and the gravity and that stuff, not the center of gravity thing.) And yer not the 1st one to suggest that m8, that has indeed been suggested a couple of times already, so its got somehwhat of a good chance of being heard by "them." | 2010-09-12 20:45:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Cool, glad it might make it into the game. I also had another idea- Static water material. Imagine a little cube of water with a wavy outline that you could swim through and jump out of from above. That way people could make pools and water slides and pools WITHOUT the lag, of actual flowing water... | 2010-09-12 20:52:00 Author: Green-Tomato Posts: 140 |
Well things that are confirmed... - Material tweakers (these allow you to tweak the friction and bounciness of a material) - Gravity device (these allow you to control the strength of gravity acting on an object - Indestructibility toggle (make anything, even a flimsy piece of sponge indestructible) - Animated water material - Water projectile (looks like a jet of water when emitted, could be used to great effect) - Specific materials that can pass through other materials I am not sure if you can tweak the direction of gravity. But you may be able to fake it by rotating the camera (new feature) at the same rate as the world itself, giving the impression that the world is still whilst the gravity is changing. You could also fake it by using the new "movers" and "rotators." I think there are some movers which follow a particular target. By making the target the centre of a planet, and by changing the radius of activation of the mover, you could make it "gravitate" towards the planet. | 2010-09-13 00:36:00 Author: thor Posts: 388 |

Because no one has ever thought of this before, ever. | 2010-09-13 00:43:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |
Was that sarcasm Arkei? Sorry but its kinda hard to tell, lol. | 2010-09-13 02:11:00 Author: Green-Tomato Posts: 140 |
Was that sarcasm Arkei? Sorry but its kinda hard to tell, lol. Yes, it obviously is. I personally have seen about 678,934,283.9 threads mentioning the animated water material. | 2010-09-13 02:18:00 Author: RJA00000 Posts: 387 |

Settings just in the material tweaker tool include: -Friction as a percentage scale -Bounciness as percentage scale -Sticky or not Sticky -Indestructable or destructible -Grabbable with these settings = Grabbable, Not Grabbable, One grab only, Default Grabbability Also there is such thing as a "looks at rotatior" which means that you make the object it is attached to always turn to face the player or a tag of your choosing, this makes it easy to create a gravity effect, im actually in the middle of creating a level just like this game:http://www.java-gaming.com/game/3502/Planet_Hopper/ | 2010-11-08 22:18:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |
+ Friction is % of original friction What is Indestructible by default it wont be destructible | 2010-11-08 23:02:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |

Does this sound good far my first idea? Well have I got some news for you, first there is a material editor switch you can apply to any material to change its properties such as stickiness, whether it is grabbable or not even how many times you can grab a certain material, how much bounce, another switch that sets its gravity, weightlessness and which way is up always, but as we dont have all of the tools available I cannot tell you about the static, or collision properties of the materials as we dont have full versions of the game only beta I can only hope that between now and the release of this game that it will be all we can imagine and more.. | 2010-11-09 02:18:00 Author: darkknight2010 Posts: 69 |
I have one idea that would make what you described much better. Instead of having to put on each individual switch for editing a material/object, it would be alot less cluttered if you only had to press square when your popit is hovering over it... | 2010-11-09 13:48:00 Author: Green-Tomato Posts: 140 |
Making an object static is as easy as putting a Gravity Tweaker on the object and set dampening to 100%. Center of gravity trick can be made - I think it's do-able with sackbots, but I made a gyro wheel like Mm's one in Lift Off - which can also act normally in gravity fields. | 2010-11-10 16:02:00 Author: Unknown User |
on the subject of gravity tweaking: look what i found!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0yujlcrIYk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0yujlcrIYk watch out for the wicked shot at 1:30 | 2010-11-11 16:32:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |

Movers with downwards force and local space on + look at rotators looking at the centre of the planet. No actual gravity tweaking there. My carriage can go to these gravity fields and back to normal gravity. | 2010-11-11 19:28:00 Author: Unknown User |
yeah, its not too tricky to work out, i have a basic version of the same level on my moon (or did before my big crash :S ) im sure we are gonna see alot more gravity based gameplay, especially now that people have worked out how to make sackbots walk up walls and such | 2010-11-13 20:26:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |
