Attack of the Frong
Attack of the Frong starts off with a ride in a...
... what I can only describe as a Funkmobile.

You then journey along, before suddenly dying, as you race into an invisible cloud of gas.
From there on, you are given instructions from a blue behemoth, to journey into the heart of the lair of the Frong.

Gameplay (6/10)
Fun to play (3/3)
Difficulty (2/3)
Plot (1/4)
The level itself was very fun to play, lighthearted, albeit very odd. The difficult of the level varied throughout, from easy, to hard, to medium, to easy, to medium. A level should either gradually get harder, or stay the same difficult the whole way through. For instance, the boss fight, while fun, wasn't as hard as it should've been, and just turned into a paintanator spamfest. The plot was weak, failing to cover major details, such as who the Frong were (the ghost-sounding things that appeared halfway through the level? The Big Blue Man? Whom? The Boss?) Try to clarify that in the opening cut scenes, and try to link the scenes together. Also, the grammar in the speech bubbles was poor- try using the suggested words on the side of the typing bubble.

Overall, 6/10.

Design (4.5/10)
Art (2/4)
Relative to the theme (1.5/3)
Effective use of multiple layers (1/3)

The Art throughout the level varied, sometimes colourful and bright, like at the very beginning and end, and was sometimes monotonous and drab, like throughout most of the middle sections. Try varying it more by using two main metal types, the grated metal you were using, and perhaps a rusty metal. As I wasn't quite sure what the theme was, I found it hard to correlate the art that was used with the theme and mood. Try using a consistent colour scheme. You also fell into the "3-layers is best" trap- using three layers almost all of the time. Try having hidden 1-layer tunnels going throughout some sections, and vary narrow and wide sections.

Overall, (4.5/10).

Brilliance (9.5/10)

Creativity (3/3)
Originality (4/4)
Logic (2.5/3)

You were very creative throughout the entirety of your level- using various traps and mechanisms, my favorite of which was the low gravity glitch, which you used as a mechanism the players could use to evade the black gas during the middle of the level. You were also very original, with the usage of strange contraptions and creatures I hope to never encounter. Your logic was interesting, (read: I loved the low gravity glitch), although you could have used a wee bit more throughout the underwater section, which was really cool. I loved the transition of light to dark, and the glowing wires.

Overall, (9/10)

Overall (6.7/10)

A poor plot, measly design, and somewhat lacking gameplay- disapointing, but definitely try to improve it, as your brilliance in your originality, creativity, and logic mechanisms will definitely help your future levels to shine. You have potential, keep at it!

No worries. I'll look at your WAKE UP! series next time I get the chance, probably later in the week. I'll post it on the review section again.2010-09-13 11:37:00

So wether it is fun to play is less important than the plot? .........

"Fun" tends to be extremely relative, while whether a plot is good or not is generally widely accepted.
Therefore, I have made it less punishing to make a level "not fun to play" (as what one person might find fun, another may find boring), so it doesn't affect the overall score as much.
