Sep 10 - To publish or not to publish

Archive: 19 posts

Hello all,

Just wondering, I have a level I've been steadily working on for about 5 months ("The Dream Catcher II - Shadow Realm"), and I was going to publish it Monday or Tuesday, assuming I can finish the tweaks by then.

But here's the thing - I'm a little worried that with the beta now released (and the US about to get it) - that most of the people that were active LBP1 players will be busy playing around with LBP2.

So, I was considering, waiting till the end of the beta - and then publishing.

What do you all think? Any suggestions one way or the other? What would you do?

Thanks,

I think you're over thinking it. I'd just go ahead and publish it.2010-09-10 23:37:00

Haha, maybe so.

I guess I will (if I'm able to get it done in time - I'm moving soon - so I want to finish it and publish before I leave). Besides, I probably couldn't wait that long anyway!

I do think you should publish. Not many people got into the beta even though it seems it.
Try publishing on a weekend, you will catch more people playing in the afternoons on Saturday and Sunday.

Yeah, if I'm able to finish it and/or feel it is complete enough (truly, is there ever such a thing as being done, I believe Creators don't "finish", they simply run out of room )

I'm fairly close to completion - so, hopefully, I'll be done soon. Honestly, this level has been exhausting and it will be nice to finally have it published and out there.

Yeah, I would, there will still be a lot of active LBPers online (I for example, am active on LBP, but I'm not in the Beta, presumably because I'm a sub-account and my dad's master account definatly isn't active on LBP). So there will still be people to play it.2010-09-11 18:07:00

publish it when lbp2 comes out that will be the most effective way at getting the most amount of people to play the level.2010-09-12 08:44:00

Publish!
If it's good enough it will get noticed even with beta going on.
Add pics to the thread (+ F4F will help) and i'll definitely play it.

Well, you say that - but - how will people notice it if they're in the beta - not LBP1.

As for pics - they don't work. I use a lot of special effects - but LBP doesn't take "screenshots" - so, the rays of lights, special lighting effects, and other effects - all turn up as "blank" - just a black picture of nothing. And, the pics that do show up aren't the color setting that I have. In LBP1, the picture reverts back to the original color pallette - which destroys the look of what I did.

So, either the pictures will be blank - or won't represent the level the way it should be. Very sad.

I truly think that will be the case.

Actually, it doesn't really matter anymore - I noticed that they "fixed" the Cool pages. However, I liked that I could at least republish a couple of times to get my level seen in the first week and maybe get at least a 100 plays - if not, get lucky enough to get it "stuck" on the Cool Pages.

But now, you get one shot. And, since this level is so immense, by the time I publish - people probably won't even be done playing the level by the time it's already slipped off the Cool Pages.

I know a lot of creators face this - but it's hard to imagine spending 5 months creating a level only to have it get 15 plays.

I'm so bummed out.

This is probably my personal best for a level - and it looks like it will receive the least amount of plays. Very discouraging.

I'll probably publish Monday or Tuesday and just call it a day.

Yeah, I meant Sep 2010 - meaning, should I publish in Sep - or wait til Oct after the Beta is done, but before the release of LBP2.

I understand how that could have been confusing though.

Thanks,

Rumor has it that the NA beta testers will be getting their keys on Tuesday, so you should probably publish on Monday.

Don't forget about those who weren't invited to beta, they'll be busy playing levels to relieve the pain.2010-09-12 20:52:00

That's my plan - but the last little bit is taking a bit longer than I was planning. Bah!

Haha, yeah, probably me! I wonder how the count "active" players. I've been creating for almost 5 months - but I rarely play - soooooo. It could be a sad day.

Shouldn't we be able to play it in LBP2, though? I'm assuming the beta has LBP1 levels.

I don't know. I know people have been talking about "importing" their LBP1 levels - so, I'm kind of confused as to whether you can play all LBP1 levels - or only those other players imported (their own levels).
