SCEA taking a stab at an official fansite
Archive: 33 posts
Complete with level planning tools, sharing features, and a forum, LittleBigWorkshop (http://littlebigplanet.us.playstation.com/post/2008/10/Introducing-LittleBigWorkshop.aspx) is SCEA's official fansite for LittleBigPlanet. Currently the site (http://littlebigworkshop.com/) is password protected as it is still under construction, but if they were smart they would release the site officially before the launch of LittleBigPlanet. What do you guys think? | 2008-10-25 03:11:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Yeah, totally trying to capitalize. I don't think it will ever become as great a community as this is. | 2008-10-25 03:13:00 Author: RadarFlea Posts: 85 |
So on www.littlebigplanet.com, they have announced a little big workshop. Basically this is a place for little big planet-ers to go share ideas (very much like this website). But the key difference is the addition of a blueprint room. Apparently, in this room people will be able to go and draw out designs for levels, parts, creatures etc... I think this is a pretty exciting prospect. And being able to share these blueprints really adds to the "Play Create Share" theme that this game advertises. Just thought this was interesting news.... edit::: I know it is on the US version of the website. not sure about the others. | 2008-10-25 03:21:00 Author: chiropractor345 Posts: 161 |
sony is really trying to squeeze every penny out of this game.... just because of this one game i think we all saw what a company sony is really like... money hungry, sucking dry a good company like mm that has a good idea... looks like they found a company that had a good concept, threw a bunch of money at them ( bairly enough for 30 employees, and a small office above a toilet shop ) and worked them hard for a game which could have probably been made much better given the time, and financial support. this site is just another marketing ploy of sony... shame on them | 2008-10-25 03:38:00 Author: big93 Posts: 262 |
Sony, disappoints me once again, but this is a threat that goes out to all of you. Don't leave this site for their site, I will find you, I'm everywhere! Lol, no but seriously, this site will always be better then that site and I hope everyone gets it through there head | 2008-10-25 03:41:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
I just hope it's Sony trying to add some player support and community integration of the game, to extend the game beyond the console. Rather than simply a money-grabbing dive. Because it at least looks like it's supposed to be that... I hope I don't get proven wrong. | 2008-10-25 03:51:00 Author: Mark D. Stroyer Posts: 632 |
That site will become the mainstream LBP site, it will have a lot of people, but very few quality members, unlike this site. For what we lack in numbers, we make up for in quality. | 2008-10-25 04:33:00 Author: Code1337 Posts: 3476 |
you know there was an application for this a month or so ago. i never did it cause i didn know it was going to be a big fan site. | 2008-10-25 04:39:00 Author: Unknown User |
I like the concept behind the site tools but I'm not really sure I'll use them. Now, if this is where we retrieve our screenshots and videos [fingers crossed], browse levels [more fingers crossed], and upload textures [out of fingers] then I will be there everyday. This isn't that far fetched either. I can think of at least one major game that has an official site like that. If not, then it's just another site. There's a good chance, depending on how and who actually set the site up, that we'd have our concerns and wishes heard by MM staff. Unfortunately, much like Bungie.net [halo example] and the PSN forums, there will be thousands and thousands of users and rumors, flame wars, and other issues will plague it. I'm happy right where I am. The community feels tight nit and the admins do a great job. Except one, who really needs to lay off the malt liquor. | 2008-10-25 05:24:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
In a glimmer of hope, I decided to try my PSN ID in the box just to see what happened. Unfortunately...no, that doesn't work. I'd like to dissuade any other people from trying the same. | 2008-10-25 05:33:00 Author: Mark D. Stroyer Posts: 632 |
ahh! they answered my question if they would have a site where they'd share content and such! amazing | 2008-10-25 08:21:00 Author: illyism Posts: 146 |
I think it's sad to see community such as our , should in my opnion atleast have the backing of the MM/Sony the thing is look at our forums / our members and dedication is top notch, and tbh pretty un rivalled but by the looks of it Sony would rather have money over dedicated fans. Shame really | 2008-10-25 10:36:00 Author: Kyashu Posts: 447 |

You should appreciate him for that! Don't be so judgemental of the poor fella. xD | 2008-10-25 10:40:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |

I don't see what the problem is with advertising. Unless it's in the form of intrusive pop-ups or Flash items that drift across the screen, it's seldom a problem for me. You don't have to click on the ads, after all. | 2008-10-25 11:33:00 Author: FlowersInHisHair Posts: 126 |
OMG! Bye guys! LOL, but seriously, that sounds pretty neat, but I can really tell the community aspect will be lacking. | 2008-10-25 11:45:00 Author: Unknown User |
I shan't join! I WILL STAY HERE, EVEN IF THE WORLD ENDS BEFORE THAT HAPPENS! ... wait, what? Anyway, we are QUALITY. AND we just get rid of those we don't deem worthy of our quality. Anywayz... we ARE a bunch of weirdos, no? | 2008-10-25 11:48:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |

someone quote my first post and write a responding paragraph on why you agree... it'll make me look professional... if you do it, i'll love you forever... and ever | 2008-10-26 06:08:00 Author: big93 Posts: 262 |
If they do this right. I think it could be great. If you could link it to the game to get status updates and keep track of friends, kind of like the rockband.com site. I think this could be a great addition. | 2008-10-28 14:41:00 Author: WeeB Posts: 16 |

Shame really Unfortunately, Kyashu.. if they were to 'officially' back one community site, they'd have to do the same for _all_ of them. That being said.. I rarely trust "official" websites over fan-based ones.. because the fan ones are doing it for the love of the game. Sony would rather have money - shocking. It never ceases to amaze me the kneejerk reactions that certain people have. Sony has, for all its dedication to the bottom line, funded and published some of the best games in the past decade that haven't sold all that well and STILL given their design teams another go: Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and Little Big Planet are all boutique games that would NOT have existed, if Sony were only concerned with "money". So Sony/MediaMolecule decide to create a site that is ad based that will allow users to design and show off their work - oh heavens! Seriously folks, get over yourselves. | 2008-10-28 17:31:00 Author: Unknown User |

This is really great news, if the first post wasnt bias then you would all love it. whats the problem? | 2008-10-28 18:58:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |
for those who are moaning that sony is sucking lbp dry are over long one thing, Sony is a business that is made to get money and become successful, the only reason why game exit is because the people want to make money, LBP is desgin to make the devs money, i not been nasty but i know some of us on the fourms are going to make great level so they can make money,or even like a seris, like R VS b, whgich started of as been a fan made thing and near the end they brought out a dvd pack. If this was M$ they would be made on adversiements, and websites and even content, just be lade the their are downloadble item that are free | 2008-10-28 19:21:00 Author: panzer3000 Posts: 362 |
It's very much worth noting that the LittleBigWorkshop will always be an official site rather than a fansite - its intention is to support the game above and beyond the way that a standard game website would do. Its intentions are very honorable. As for the existing LBP fansite program, that a good few genuine fansites have signed up for, it hasn't started yet! We launched the signup process early so we could get in touch with fansites to give some beta codes to the owners to give away - just as we did here. The full program will start once the game is out everywhere. I know "radio silence" can be a bit frustrating, but it doesn't mean nothing is happening. | 2008-10-29 11:42:00 Author: Unknown User |

Glad to see you haven't forgotten us. Thought you only posted on the playstation forums nowadays. I for one think this is gonna be a great site and have been hoping they were gonna stand by their word as alex evans said they were gonna try to make a site that allowed fans to track stuff. | 2008-10-29 12:46:00 Author: dorien Posts: 2767 |

Ah, well, I appreciate the fact that you shed some light on it. I was mislead by the "We will contact you in 10-14 days if your fansite was accepted..." and assumed it was being forgotten. I apologize for my comment and I retract it. | 2008-10-29 15:26:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
