Need help making an object simply "dissapear"

Archive: 11 posts

Hi, as a regular reader of little big planet central (but not a registered member until now), i wanted to know if anyone has figured out how to make an object look like it dissapears rather than dissolve. I know this is an announced feature in lbp2 but i wanted to know if anyone has figured out anything for this game. All i found so far is to put glass in the front layer in order to make the dissolve effect go away. I think there might be a way to do it with the anti-color glitch but i wanted to ask all of you first. Thanks in advance.2010-09-09 01:06:00

You could try de-emitting it. (see rtm233's de-emitter levels)

Or you could wait until LBP2...

Not exactly what i was looking for, im familiar with that kind of re-emitting. My issue is with the effect. I am making something constantly emit in different planes and want to know if there is a way to get rid of that smoky effect that results from when an object's lifetime expires. The only way to preserve the color and rid myself of the effect is the put glass in the front plane, but I do not want the glass texture (bumpy) overlaying my entire level since the camera will be close.2010-09-09 01:26:00

De-mitting only makes undissolvable objects disappear, not lose the effect of dissolve itself.

What you could try, is Aya's "Garden of Goodies" level, it has glitched materials that look like other materials, maybe if you take a glass material, but it disguised as another material, and dissolve it, it will simply disappear. I don't know if this works though.

If you want to get rid of dissolve sound, there's a sound object in the music section that has a quiet spot when you shift through the different tones of the specific speaker. Just set the sound on destroy, place it on the object, and it should make no sound when it disappears.

Hmm, you could use a piston set to .1 on speed but thats very limited. Maybe try to hide the smokey effect behind something?2010-09-09 01:29:00

In my experience that doesn't work, unfortunately. I tried to do the same thing with helicopter blades a while ago.

If you don't want to demit an object the only way I can think of to make it look like it disappears is to attach it to a really long piston that draws the object up really fast, so fast you can't see it.

Edit: doh I see UlimateClay already suggested that.

There are two ways to do this.

You could use glass or cowglitched glass like warlord_evil mentioned, because glass doesn't leave dissolve or demmiting smoke for some reason. (But, since you're using glitch layer objects, that won't work.)

Another option is to use a plasma ball glitch. Glue a plasma ball to your object, then capture the object. Delete the object and emit it (with desired tweaks like infinite lifetime and max emmited at once: 1). Whenever something comes into contact with the plasma ball, the plasma ball disappears, and the object it's attached to will simply vanish as well.

I haven't come across that glitch before but that sounds ace. Exactly what Instantkill ordered!

The only other thought I had is that you could use creature brains, but that would be just silly. :hrmf:

That would still dissolve like dissolve...

I'm not 100% sure it works. It works with paintballs, but you need an infinite-life paintball (which I think has to do with whether the paintball was captured before a certain update that gave lifetimes to paintballs.) I've heard that plasma works too, but haven't verified it. Plasma would be simpler because they always have infinite lifetimes. So, could you verify it?
