LBL: 4 in 1 - Cake SurvivalAspherex
http://i54.tinypic.com/34qryu8.jpgFat Sam's cake is under siege! Help protect it from rivals from the baking tray. For 1 player only.
So far criminally underplayed (ONE play besides me and my sister...) this is my entry into the LittleBigLand 4 in 1 survival competition. The deadline's passed so unfortunately I can't make any further modifications (it's against the rules, unless something has gone terribly wrong that demands an urgent fix) - but I'd still appreciate feedback and plays.

Fat Sam has just baked a tasty cake, but it's under attack from cupcakes, muffins and cookies who want to gobble it up. How long can you keep them at bay with your direct control seat (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=35227-Direct-Control-Seats&p=611532#post611532)-powered cake icing gun? Points are awarded for every enemy you kill, and for every enemy that has time to eat you, you lose 1 slice (8 slices total). The high score shouldn't be too hard to beat at the moment...

I await your feedback.

lol

This site hasn't run an official competition in about a year... shame really. Also the contraption challenge seems to have wound down. LBL keeping the competitive spirit alive!

I played the level and here's what I thought.

I liked the little story you made for the level and even had a character. The concept is awesome and although it might be kinda tough to control at first, great job implementing a control scheme and I loved how you had slices of cake as a health bar along with numerous types of enemies that fits the theme. Not much to visual design but it's still an awesome idea and I thought you did a great job implementing it into LBP. If I were you, I'd add a little more design to it. Overall, I gave it :star::star::star::star: and a <3 Great job, I would love to see another version in LBP2 (or LBP1 if you can) maybe with powerups and other types of enemies

This was a very very good cake shooting game. It was short and sweet. Like the previous poster stated, the intro was funny. Wish you did not have to vaporize the player to get them to the next point....but that is me just wishing there was a good teleport option...that will not freeze the PS3. Back to your level...not sure what else you could do, power ups, possibly a wave meter to the side (saying 1st wave or such), but it was a very simple concept that maybe should not be added to...plus I am sure there is a bit of logic behind the scenes, so you may not have room for more. You could add a little detail behind the cake possibly a sticker to avoid messing up the level by doing anything other than a material change. I noticed some of the white muffins had the stickers not 100% placed right on the sides, but that may be impossible to fix, and I know on my one level there was no way I was going to go back and fix some stickers on the emitted items...maybe some day I will...yeah maybe not.
Back to your level, I noticed the bolt hidden under the cake as I was getting killed, that is the one thing I would fix. It took away from teh cool cake design. Oh at the end on the dropping cakes and things you could add brains so when you grabbed them you would get a few more points at that point (I could have used a few I was in third)...
So the skinny, great level, fixes the bolt, then if you have time a more detailed background, then if you have more time brains on food for more points (ending food), and then tonssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss more time teleport and stickers.

Now I am to eat some cake.

Thanks both of you for the feedback. I noticed that I'd left the bolt visible after the deadline for the competition had passed.. d'oh! It's not a very big deal though.

Celsus with regard to putting brains on the cakes at the end... it would not work because after you hit the scoreboard the scoring freezes so you can't earn any more points. Also it is necessary to either spawn in the cake at the start, or teleport in, as it is in the back layer surrounded by dark matter... I maybe could get it to work but it's no big deal. And I wanted to have a little intro.

I also cannot face redoing emitted objects, so I know how you feel. It's even worse when your emitted object is emitting another object that you want to fix... so I tried to get it as good as I could first time round and it worked out OK. Thankfully in LBP2 you'll be pleased to know that we can now emit an object that's within the level itself! No more tweaking and recapturing! Just edit the object as it is. So I will wait for LBP2 to fix this.

The thermo was very nearly full with emitted objects... one more and it would break. I think I will wait for LBP2 to do powerups and stuff because it sounds so much easier Wish I'd got into the beta...

I am not positive, but it you still are gaining points at the score board (right before you end the level) the bonus will still add up, so if you are quick enough you can boost your score at the vey end, but if your score bubble vanishes, then the score becomes static and will not increase past that point.

Oh as far as the editing emitted goes, I always wanted to beable to just edit the item with out having to recapture and replace, it is good they are fixing that, I have plenty of four or more level emitted items...adn I sooooooo hate when I notice a corner or sticker I did not finish last time, then have to set everything to zero, set the captured opject, set its emitters to zero, and repeat all the way to the fourth layer and fix and then recapture re-emit, and hope that this time around I remember to set it back to 1 or more from the zero setting on all the emitters.....

Negatives:
-1st speech bubble to fast
-While I was inside the thing I kept getting squished everytime I started to move around

Hmmm don't know why you were getting squished? I've actually never been squished in my entire time playing it. Maybe you were pressing X? It's not neccessary to press X because the reaction time is very quick anyway. I'll test this because that might be the cause. And the speech bubble is connected to a proximity sensor... so as long as you don't move away from it it should stay there...

I'll definitely check out your level.

I have played your level and it has seemed to me to be really original, i am not great of supporting the bomb survival nevertheless i have liked yours, me it has entertained and been a new way of finding a good sense to these levels, i get pleased that you were making your character is a good idea and of fact a photo takes with the LOL, and as for eating up the pastry or they were eating you he has looked like to you a funny man, besides whom successful bundle a good game with a very good level of difficulty. Congratulations for this work.

I have given you 4:star:'S

I wait could play to my new level WOOD WORLD https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=34593-Wood-World-(with-VIDEO)-*SPOTLIGHT* and i would like to know your opinion. Thanks

Played Cake Survival - good job with opening scene so players will know that some items will need more shots than others, also like the transition to the actual gameplay. It was fun...simple and fun. I felt like i was playing Asteroids back in 1985 at the arcade in the mall...Creative idea - I have not played any other level that is even similar to this, so kudos for thinking outside the box on a level creation. I thought i did good, but turns out I was only #5 on the scoreboard, so I'll try a few more times! Thanks for sharing and thanks again for the feedback on my level "Just Have Fun, YO!"2010-09-10 14:38:00

I searched for this level and found that this wasn't the only "LBL: 4 in 1 - Cake Survival". Who'd have thought. Anyway, this level was way better than the other one I played.
This level reminds me of an Asteroids level my brother made, only it works way better, there's more stuff, and... it's got cake.

+The mechanics are great.
+I love the cake-health bar, the enemies, the sound effects, the ending - how you don't eat the wrappers ... etc.
-The background is a bit boring, a cake-themed background would be nice.
-One time I was playing and it suddenly said I ran out of lives and had to start over. Don't know what that was about. Maybe I keep dying in there without noticing.... use infinite-lives checkpoint.
-Make that bolt in the cake invisible?

All in all a great level.

Really great challenge, I really enjoyed it. The shooting mechanic worked great (it was almost LBP2-esque) and it was really cool the way it worked. I'm not going to try and decipher how you did it, but it was really cool the way the enemies came, I couldn't tell if it was randomized or not, (I didn't play it twice), and they always kept me on edge, especially as it kept going, and the number of enemies increased. I really like the theme and aesthetics too for the most part, the one thing I was disappointed with was the background, and how bland it was, but it didn't distract me too much, I still had alot of fun. Overall 5 stars and heart despite the background 2010-09-11 23:26:00
