A few of my friends don't like LBP2's awesome ability of creating levles of so much different genres. They say the community is going to shatter and asplode because of it. I said to them that it's a completely ridiculous idea and LBP2 wil get even more players... ...so am I just blind of the hype or *could* LBP2 just choke and collapse on it's own awesomeness?

I'm going to agree with the completely ridiculous part. Even if the community did asplode as long as LBPC and other LBP related sites exist then it wouldn't collapse completely.

The community may fragment... but I doubt it'll asplode (it's more likely to asplode if they are all gathered in one place - just like walnuts ). The new "Content Stream" feature will keep things focused and relevant to your interests, rather than everyone being prompted to play Bomb/Shark survivals

yeah that is completely ridiculous, but if that did happen all the bomb/shark survival people would go somewhere else and we (the lbp site people) would be left alone... QUICK, EVERYONE ASPLODE THE COMMUNITY!!!

The community won't asplode, in fact, I think it'll become loads better than it is with LBP1, both with level-quality and the spam rate.
