| Funnily enough I took apart one of my PS3's recently. It was a cheap second hand one off of ebay, and it was loud so I decided to open to up to apply my own better thermal paste to keep it cooler (hoping the fan wouldn't go crazy still... but it only worked to a small extend). I took photos of the whole process, and found out why it was cheap too! (Check out the glue... I had to literally tear it apart xD !! Yeah I wish the owners I bought it off knew that!! All those white marks are industrial glue which I had to pry open to get into my PS3! It turned out to be the hardest part of the process too. Upon further inspection I found that the reason for the glue was because all the little sliding hooks had ripped off.
