Av Cables For Ps3

Archive: 16 posts

Umm, the cables the PS3 came with are 480p correct? Where would I be able to buy the 1080i A/v Cables, or is there another way to do it? What is the purpose of an HDMI Cable?2008-10-24 21:46:00

If by "1080i a/v cables" you mean component, then yeah, those are how you get resolutions above 480. (And I may be wrong about this, but I think the standard Yellow-White-Red that comes with the box only supports 480i, rather than p.) However, if you can, get an HDMI cable, as that allows you to run in 1080p (if you've got the TV to handle it, or one of a select few newer models that can run p through the component), as well as integrating full surround audio, rather than plain stereo through separate cables.

Also, I think that with HDMI, it automatically adjusts the settings to the TV (once you have the PS3 set to automatic, at least), where you have to manually change those with component.

At any rate, HDMI can be slightly more expensive, but much more convenient and flexible. If you can, use that. If you can only use component, that'll be fine, too, but you won't get the 1080p resolution if you have it.

Ok, well I used to use an HDMI Cable for my 360 as well, so with the HDMI cable, I won't need the hassle of the a/v cables at all?

Yep. The cheap ones are actualy just as good as the gold-plated, uber-expensive ones. Thats something they don't want us to know

(Check you've got a spare HDMI port on your TV first though... Should be fine though)

Lol, I have 8 HDMI ports, I think I'm ok.

Oh and I also have a gaming chair, I used to use it with my Xbox 360 because I bought this multi/av thingy that allows me to hook up this TX Box the Chair came with, plug the av cables in the multi/av thing, and into the TX Box. Anyone know if there is something similar?

It looks like this, you can kind of get an idea. Maybe?

www.monoprice.com Cheap cables.

HDMI cables are digital meaning they either work or don't work. Simple as that. A $3.00 cable works just as well as a Monster anti alien doom ray preventing $100 cable.

As for your question, I'm not sure what you're asking for. Are you looking for the White/Yellow to hook up to a chair or sound system? If it's the former, you could get component cables and cut the other ones off and use the white/red combo.

I could do that yes, but I was asking, the picture above has this item that allows you to plug the component cables directly into the Xbox 360, in this case would be the PS3. I was just wondering if there is anything out in the market for the PS3 like this.2008-10-25 03:35:00

I really don't think so. I've never seen anything like it. (Although admittedly...I'm not entirely sure what it does, exactly.) Besides, if you've got an HDMI...then it all becomes quickly irrelevant.2008-10-25 06:17:00

I have a game chair that requires to plug in the a/v cables, and since my TV is mounted on the wall, I can't have the a/v cables on the back or they would be pushing on the wall and thus destroying them.

The item I am talking about would have it directly connect into the PS3 instead of the TV ( A/v Cables )

If you want to see the PS3 version of this, turn on your PS3, go to the left, go down to display settings, and click on the first one and go down to the "Multi AV / SCAR" Or something like that.

Anyways that's what I'm talking about, but I guess I can find another way, though that would be 150 dollars out the drain.

How old/new is your chair?
