Would you have found this game interesting?

Ok, so I am quite the addicted to games and love them. And if I can I would like to make them as well. This is just one of my several ideas I would like to see on the shelves in the future, but here goes:

Visuals:
Some kind of cyberspace landscape, a close resemblance to the VR grid materials and the bat vision stuff in Batman: Arkham Asylum. Everything will have a kind of grey/dark bluish colour with edges of some glowing colour around them. The characters will be kind of soldier-like and robotic in this virtual world. I will come up with drawings later if you want.

Story:
So far I got no clue, but for now I believe it is some sort of video game where you play a player playing a game.

Gameplay elements:
Ok, so this is where the interesting part (as far as I know) comes. It is a kind of FPS game, with a variety of guns to use and such, but that is not all.
You have the ability to shift the environment to your will. You can make columns rise from the ground, and bridges form from walls. You can call them forth and back by own will. There are also sort of grenades using this on enemies, where you place one and when someone passes, the wall will quickly go forth and back mashing up whoever it hit. Possibly also a gravity change, where you will be able to walk from the floor to a wall (and *kapow* the wall has just become the floor).

A multiplayer mode would be as well, which would be like team vs. team where you can use these weapons to take out the enemy and shift the levels to a certain degree.

Probably a pretty hard question up there, but I will see what I can mosh up on photoshop to show you Can't say anything about quality though, not that good yet 'o.O

there was a game very similar to this idea that came out and flopped - it had a different look, didn't have the Tron thing going on, but it was an fps... MAYBE a 3rd person shooter? But I'm leaning toward fps - where you could control the environment. You'd aim at the ground and you had a move that could raise the landscape, so a huge spire would shoot out. You could use this to launch yourself or enemies up into the air. Similarly, you could sink the ground into a hole.

there were probably other moves you had, maybe something like bridge-creation, but I only ever played the demo. I don't remember what it was called. I've been trying to find it for you now but I give up! Maybe someone else knows?

The game was called Fracture I think, but as far as this goes this does not compare at all to the demo. You could only move the ground up and down and that was it. :/ A bit on the same concept being able to change environment at will, but my idea should be a whole lot more thorough (I hope).2010-09-07 06:51:00

I like everything but the visual idea.
I'm pretty nitpicky about visuals and I wouldn't like to see something I've already seen somewhere.

Mnhaaa, hard to do make a new visual style, but I get your point, having something else would be cool as well. I just find the style now going good with my idea now. Though improvements could be made!2010-09-07 15:24:00

That doesn't strike me as interesting. It feels like games I played multiple times. However, it think you are on track for develloping good ideas.

What you need Moonwire is the "twist", the things that will make your idea stand up.
If you think about a VR style visuals you could think about something like hacking the envyronment with button combinations, like a rhythm game, to modify the settings.
For example you can think simple commands like aim and fire to the triggers and face buttons to make the combos to change the ambient.
Like Cross, Square, Cross to raise terrain, Circle, Triangle, Circle to move the ojects on the right.
That would add a sort of adrenalyn rush in playing the game.
Just an idea, you shouldn't focus only on gameplay, but even how you will achieve it, make it fun, fresh and different.

Nah, I can say the visual style I had in mind resembled that of TRON4, but out from trailers and such it looks like a racing game and nothing involving the gameplay elements I had in mind.

The VR style things where everything's black and neon really doesn't work that well in large amounts. Maybe for a small arcade-like game, like Geometry Wars, but an entire FPS that way? You'd be begging for a touch more reality.2010-09-08 00:51:00

Have you ever played the game Fracture, its basically what youve described, in fact, if you go onto the psn store and type fracture in the search area than the demo may be among the search results, I recall playing it.2010-09-08 01:11:00

It's an awesome idea, but how is it going to limit you from doing whatever you want?2010-09-08 01:46:00

Ahem... Read the posts before you post...

Of course there would be limits, if you have played portal, there are walls that you can't make your portal appear on, so there will probably will be walls which you can't manipulate. Or at least they will turn to their original state quite fast again if changed. The grenade I mentioned earlier would be one of the few items working.
