No Surprises (not made by me)

This is a little work of art. Just magic.

Riding on a cloud, the cloud's rough texture, the parallax scrolling on the houses at the beginning, the floaty stars, the cloud's occasionally-visible pole, the background as it transitions from day to night, the bit where Sackboy grabs the moon and bubbles pour out on top of him, and of course the top-quality tune.

Absolutely magic level, I love the texture of the clouds, the music, the cardboard buildings, the floating stars and shooting stars, everything really, all in all a very well thought out design.

What's the material that gives the cloud that lovely texture?2008-10-24 13:51:00

Just wow. This level is so nice!! I wonder how they got that lovely effect on the clouds, I haven't seen them like that before. I love the stars floating, there's such a nice magical kinda feel to it, like some kind of dream you'd have as a kid.2008-10-24 15:28:00

I have no idea how he did the clouds, someone should invite him to the site via his Youtube page so we can ask him. Maybe stickers? Maybe a new texture in the full game creation tools if that is what he made it with?

I played this level in the beta. Personally I thought it was better than all the other musical levels since this actually incorporated more than just music. As for the texture... I think it was a sticker through the PSEye. I'd have to ask him.2008-10-24 17:10:00

I have sent him a message through YouTube asking him for the texture. Watch this space! 2008-10-24 17:44:00

Wow, that really is a very cool level. I didn't even realize it was a music level. I just thought it was a very tight, art house level with some good music in the back of it. That was very ingenious. It really keeps the player engaged with it, and helps support the music and intertwines the whole thing, rather than have the player tune out more if it's just the "Hold down lever to drive car, and music plays" type.

The only real complaint I may have is that it's not entirely clear what the player is supposed to do off the cloud in places, and the pacing of it. It's too easy in sections to run ahead, and then have to wait for your cloud. That could have been done better. And maybe have the level reflect the progression of the music a bit more, although that's really rather difficult.

I was going to comment saying "It's just another "ok" level, didn't see anything great"

Until I noticed that he actually MADE the music, it's not a track MM gives you, so 10 out of 10 for this level

So I messaged the creator through YouTube and he says that the lovely cloud texture was unintentional: the clouds were originally going to be cardboard, but he wanted to make them indestructible so changed them to metal, and that changed the texture to the papier mach? effect that we see in the level.

What a happy accident!

Very dreamy level

I was gonna say it looked like stone just painted white, as i made a office block in the beta out of stone and painted it white and it looked similar to them clouds. But guess it's metal :o

True, there is all these wonderful machines people have made and were all getting excited over a texture on a cloud that just bobs up and down

What? It's just a nice texture. I don't have the game yet so I was wondering if it was a built-in texture or a photograph imported with an Eye. There's plenty of room here to talk about textures on clouds as well as the intricate workings of enormous multi-jointed dragons. That's the beauty of LittleBigPlanet and this forum!

Wow, they really should lock this. Or I push me into a pit of lava.

Although I'd much prefer the former!
