OK Choice (Act:1 The First Curve of Mobius)celsus Ok this post has been altered to make it a bit less of a dinosaur. This is now just for the first level of the series (The First Point of Mobius) and I will make new posts for the latter. All levels have been massively updated recently, and somewhat as of today 10/08/2010). Thanks to all those who have provided feedback thus far. This is the story of a single person in a city of industry run by a leader that by all rights is a dictator. There government has replaced all civil service with enforcers over the years and now it is easier to stop a victimless crime than go to a doctor. You have closed your self off from this world and escaped to your science, and as of today you may have found a way to escape for good... Each level has one or more hidden clues that will help you shape the very fabric of time. This level requiers players to have on community stickers option to complete. | 2010-09-07 07:24:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
OK! Well, I played the first part, but alas, didn't get through it. First off it looks fantastic, the detail in the city and underground and all around looks great, I love the subway train and the sewer lid grabby thing and the cars and all the mechanics. I love the way you did the power lines like in that last screenshot, it looks awesome, and I love it when you can create this level of depth without using the background glitch. As for negatives, well, the single-life checkpoints are a bit of a drag when there's so much to explore and so many different paths to take. When I dropped down into the sewer I had no idea what to do, no matter what I tried to do I just got killed by the poison gas until I ran out of lives. I played again without dropping into the sewer and got to the guy in the yellow coat at the far left of the subway with the nuclear waste and the power lines, like that last screenshot. And then I had no idea what to do. So yeah, I didn't finish it. | 2010-09-11 17:08:00 Author: Grethiwha Posts: 61 |
Added directions to assist in level. | 2010-09-11 17:49:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
I disabled collecting community objects and photobooth photos or whatever in my settings. I collected the key, but when I got to the door I didn't have the key at all, though that might've been because I didn't collect the key on my second playthrough (I can't remember). I thought that was just like a bonus room, was that where I needed to go? You already played my "Finale". Feel free to check out my other levels, but they're old and I'm not really looking for feedback on them. | 2010-09-11 18:20:00 Author: Grethiwha Posts: 61 |
Wow! Even though you were joking, im glad you said something about playing your level. I love how you made everything. The cars/vehicles are just superb. The story is very interesting but they way you crafted things are just awesome. And you did it all within the 3 given layers. I would love to see what ou could do with the glitch layers. My only gripe with the level is that you have too many speach bubbles and hints. It was like someone was holding my hand the whole level through. Less speech bubbles the better. Just use them for critcal info or a good laugh. Excellent level still. 5 stars and a heart. (It looked so good ) I cant play the rest of the series. I have the key glitch so i'll probly have a friend take me in to check out the rest. | 2010-09-11 20:13:00 Author: L1GhTmArE Posts: 519 |
I just played your level & heres my feedback: Positives: +Visuals looked great liked how you brought the city visuals like that. If it has 3D along with it, it probably would of been outstanding. +Gameplay was pretty good +Liked the train ride very unique +Storyline pretty good so far Negatives: -Too many hints tasks the fun or adventure out of it a lil bit Overall the level is a Must play::star::star::star::star::star: Part 2 was also very good but gave it::star::star::star::star: | 2010-09-11 21:20:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
First off I want to thank you for your feedback on my burning tree level, it was much appreciated and that right now I'm a bit biased: 1. You gave me some excellent suggestions 2. I hate these open-ended levels and would be never play one without incentive. Subsequently I unfortunately I did not finish your level but I will give you feedback on what I did play. My first impression was that it looked really good, everything seemed authentic and fit really well in the setting (the street and sewer were especially beautiful.) Also the level is really well designed, and many parts such as the trolley worked surprisingly well. However a few things bugged me out the level, and they aren't problems plaguing just your level but all within the genre, yours just happens to suffer from the following issues as well. The most prominent being the wordiness, and the lack of a clear objective. Since the focus of the level was to tell and play a good story I found it difficult to figure out what to do In such a large map. The second problem being lack of actual puzzle/platofrming gameplay (during the part I played) and it was mainly just walking and reading which I personally don't enjoy. In the long run I can't exactly critique a level like this and for that I apologize, but I hope you took some of this to heart I had to give a rating however so I gave 3 stars. | 2010-09-11 22:22:00 Author: optimafrogg Posts: 98 |
@L1GhTmArE, you rated the second one a bit less than the first, was there anything that made the level more of an issue. I still have to work on the feedback from part one, but anything negative with that level would be helpful. Also was the transistion between the too levels a good reveal (not to spoil it for anyone) but I was not sure if it seemed like what was supposed to happen sprung out at the player when they got there, or if it was less dramatic than it should have been. @burning, thanks for the feedback even though it is not your genre, I just wanted to mix it up, I was also making a quiz show level...but I am not a big quiz show person...so it is way off on the backburner. I did a few puzzel/platformers (OK explorers and OK Space Accident), but I really wanted to tell a story this time...but was there anything issue wise you noticed I could fix? Was there a point you got stuck? | 2010-09-11 23:39:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
I didnt play the second one as stated in my post. That was sabre_ that played it . I have the key glitch so I couldnt have played it. | 2010-09-12 03:54:00 Author: L1GhTmArE Posts: 519 |
@Sabre_ was there anything I could improve on the next? I know the basics of that level may take a little away just because of what it is...it was just supposed to be part of the first one...but I had to make due. Again thanks for both your help. | 2010-09-12 04:02:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Hey Celsus, I've just tried your OK choice series. First off, I only tried the first two. These levels are awesome! I loved the aesthetic, and I think the music matches the mood perfectly. I think the story is a bit weird, but oh well, it's still cool. I noticed that there's some spelling mistakes in the speech bubbles. The one that said the bird flew off with the key, said it flew off of the window seal. It's suppose to be sill not seal. Also in level 2 all the way to the right by the government building. There's a speech bubble that's totally censored. All in all I think you did a wonderful job on these. I'm for sure going to check out the rest. | 2010-09-13 01:02:00 Author: smasher Posts: 641 |
Lol! I never even noticed the speeling error in the first one! I will fix that right away. As for the censored bubble $%@#! Edit: I spelled "speeling" wrong...and the sad thing is it was an accident. | 2010-09-13 03:04:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
As far as the story being weird, do you mean in a good or bad way? I meant in a good way of course. Some of the best video games have weird story lines. Just look at Final Fantasy 7. | 2010-09-13 03:37:00 Author: smasher Posts: 641 |
Lol, thanks. I fixed the two issues you mentioned Edit: Missing Key fixed. | 2010-09-13 03:54:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Just played Act 1 and frankly, this is one of the better designed levels I have ever played on LBP! Your use of sticker triggers was particularly novel I thought, but the overall sense of level depth is truly astounding. I love the film noir feel and the story is unique but intriguing - I really haven't played an LBP level quite like this before! It's honestly hard for me to think of any real criticisms of the first level, but I felt that some of your dialog boxes could have been consolidated, and I never felt like I was truly communicating with any of your characters, if that makes sense - they seemed physically dark and distant, almost in the background to the level. If you were to change anything, it would be to make the characters maybe a little more involving. I did really like the peril of the street below, but that could have been exploited a little bit more perhaps? A change of music might also have improved the experience a bit too. Anything I might suggest to spruce up the level would detract from its unique feel, so I'll give you some more detailed feedback one I've played the other acts - they don't seem to be loading right now, for some reason. Thank you for reviewing my level Nosferatu A Sackphony Of Horrors (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=35707-Nosferatu-A-Sackphony-Of-Horrors) | 2010-09-16 02:27:00 Author: DaveMuadDib Posts: 16 |
This was just some outdated details on updates...but not any more. | 2010-09-16 04:19:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Thanks for all the help so far. I went ahead and added the enforcer cars, still holding off on a millitary truck because it is a bit of an over kill. The cars should alter what they say to you depending on day vs night. | 2010-09-17 02:08:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
I played 5 of those levels and that was quite an level series that has story and scavenger hunt. The level design looked outstanding, but the gameplay is half boring- half fun. However, the cars and subway looked amazing, the bird is well made, and the stickering of the bricks are amazing. The ending of the fifth level has many alternate endings to explore as you use the stickers you collected in the fourth level are ingenious too. Some things that should be fixed is one of the vines that broke and the subway seems to slowdown sometimes. Overall it's an "OK" level but the treasure hunting and the visuals are clever. 5 levels get 4 stars. Play and F4F any one of my levels. | 2010-09-27 00:37:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
-Improved starting lighting. -Touched up neighbors room with sticker (this was to free up more space) and changed the person slightly. -Enforcers touched up on all timelines. -Trolley acting up...(thanks for noticing JustinArt)...something moved slightly causing to to hitch on run...now it has been overhauled so it should not have issues again. -Waterfall touched up. -Speech bubbles added/touched up. | 2010-09-27 06:00:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
This posting has been moved to the Act: 3 thread. | 2010-10-04 00:11:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
OK Choice part 3 Positives: +Visuals looked good as usual +Dialogue was pretty good +Gameplay went smooth no lag at all +Scenary looked great Negatives: -In the beginning of the level when your in the tunnel, I went and grabbed the radiation Catalst bubble and 2 speech bubbles had popped up but the 1st one was ok but the second one goes away to fast before you can read what you said. -The vines in the tunnel when you grab and try to switch it kind of jerks alot so if you mess up trying to go to the next one then when you start back the vine starts to move all stiff and its hard to get across. Overall I gave it a :star::star::star::star::star: also you might wanna change the title of the thread back to OK Choice (1-6) if you more feedback just at the end of your feedback tell the person to play your serious. OK Choice part 4 Pretty much the same positives goes for this part also. But when I hopped in and noticed you can leave out anytime I kinda felt that if the player got bored he could leave but I went out looking for the stickers I might need and think found only 3 searched from left to right and didnt have the sticker to get in those houses you had a sticker switch on. So when I thought I had all the stickers I went back to the teleporter and went on to part 5 I needed 5 stickers but only had 3 and I had stopped there so I didnt play part 5 yet. But overall I rated this one a :star::star::star::star: i might go back and get the rest of the stickers but so far thats were I stopped. | 2010-10-06 19:32:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Lol, thanks for the good feedback. I fixed the speech bubble and vines have been changed, so I would love to know if the new ones are better, they are more defined, vut use less usless edges and parts so they don't swing as much...only weird thing is they took up 2x more thero space? I have no clue how. The speech bubble unfixed, so it has been refixed yet again, this time for good I think. Added a few details through out the level to fit the arc better. To all those whom gave feedback thus far thank you. I am going to post these levels as individual levels so the post is not so jumbled up for six levels. This post is now just for part one. | 2010-10-07 03:10:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
An awesome level! At first I was a bit lost but then figured out where to go and starting enjoying the whole multi path thing and the freedom to explore at little! Intriguing story line and nice cliffhanger at the end. Nice visual effects very detailed. Only negative thing I can say is all the awkward jumping, like climbing the fire escapes not that's they're bad or anything I just hate climbing stairs! Overall a very well thought out level!! Now onto act 2! | 2010-10-09 16:31:00 Author: Jordanmcc Posts: 94 |
Okay, I played this level and here's what I thought. I thought the cityscape was amazing with the brick walls and the clothes hanging. The design of the cars passing by were great and the dialougue was interesting but there was a point where you could fall off a building while there was a cutscene magic mouth which was a little frustrating. The design for characters and creatures were great too, and so was the design for the trolley, although it was a little hectic at first getting on it, it didn't take too long after being bale to control the traffic which I thought was a nice touch. When etting on the trllety and getting off right by the lab, i suggest putting a checkpoint there. Overall, it's very interesting and the visuals are amazing. It's sad it only has 75 plays. I'll try the others soon and mention this one on my blog ASAP. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 | 2010-10-09 17:34:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |
Awsome info... @Jordanmcc: Thanks for the good info, I have always worried stairs may detract, but it is good to know from a fellow stair critic that they worked well enough. I have lowered the lips of the stair over-hang to prevent sackboy from slipping under, it made them look a little less stair-like, but smoother. I actually may beable to make thin invisible stairlips to make them look better and play perfectly...but that is four levels worth of up-dates...so I will make sure it is worth while before implimenting full scale. @Dragon: I have often thought about a checkpoint there, but not is a smart way, just while playtesting I would think in the back of my mind...darn, the nearest check point is way back...then I never quite put two and two together. I will add that when I am on next, also do you remeber which speech bubble? I will try and recreate when I am fixing the first thing. Thanks you both for the help! (and kind words) EDIT: Added new check point replaced lower glass in Trolley with wood to make exiting easier. Attempted several door alterations, but all pistons vanish, so will have to see what else I can do...but the material alteration should make it much better for now. Stair alteration turned out not to look better...so that has been scratched, but end railings may be alterd instead. Again thanks for the help. | 2010-10-09 18:50:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Ok so I only had time to play your first level, but wow I was impressed. I really like the feeling that you are exploring the city and I also really liked the general set up of the cars constantly driving past. It's a sort of consistent obstacle throughout the beginning that you have to keep weary of. I really just in general liked the layout of the levels; it felt very polished to me. Your attention to detail was really nice, it made up for the sometimes boring gampelay. Overall I gave it four stars and a heart and creator heart (you have so many levels geeze.) I look forward to playing the rest of them. | 2010-10-10 03:09:00 Author: zynax555 Posts: 170 |
Oops sorry for the double post I posted feedback and then pressed backspace going back and thought it didn't fully load so I gave feedback again but it ended up a souble post. Will fix that now. | 2010-10-10 03:55:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |
Lol, the double post was cool, it made me feel more important. I know what the not updating thing is like, I try to leave people (non-LBPC related people) feedback on their levels, but they don't update half of the time and the other half there is a lag, so I end up double posting often on there. @zynax555: Thanks for the feedback. When you say boring, you are refering to a story based line right? Or was there something else lacking? I had more platforming in the 2 and 3, but in the 1st and 4th it seemed to detract from the story world I wanted to create. | 2010-10-10 04:55:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Aa, okay. Well, I just looked at the pictures you provided for your thread again and noticed somehting. See the second picture you showed on your thread saying 'enforcer with luger'? Well, I don't remember seeing that in the level but it is called OK CHOICE so is there more than one ending because for me as you can see by the review, I found the trolley underground and was going to go up but it was too harmful because they were expirementing with all this stuff and then you went to your lab. | 2010-10-11 14:15:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |
He doesn't draw the gun unless you turn on the Trolley power and then walk back upto him. I may have made a mistake there, perhaps I should have it out at the start, but only have it active once the Trolley is turned on. But while there are very suttle things that happen like that in the levels, the real Choice is not until the 5th level, I wanted this whole thing in one level...I had the accelerator so it would shoot you up to the next area in the dark so it would look like the surrounding changed, but slowly I had to remove each other time period into new levels as the thermo heated up. | 2010-10-11 15:37:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Alright I played this a couple times more. You still kinda have the same problems with leading the character around with the speach bubbles instead of letting them explore but you did tone it down from last time I played. i can understand the speech bubbles but i think it would be better if they werent mostly cutscenes showing where to go. This time around I also noticed all the speeches are in 3rd person. is that intended? I do love the open world feel you have in this though. Feels like a real city. Couple that with less leading and more hunting/ getting lost (lol), I think this will be one of the best free roam levels on lbp. | 2010-10-19 23:23:00 Author: L1GhTmArE Posts: 519 |
Thanks for the feedback. When I get my next project finished (just finished these three...videos in sig link) I will update the level. I will find a way to allow for cut scenes, but not leading as much...maybe a hint elsewhere in the level (oh hid a little easter egg in part 1). As for the 3rd person, it was supposed to be that way, but at times I am sure broke from it by accident. Thanks for the kind words too. | 2010-10-21 23:40:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Well had some spare time during the break to do some extra repairs. Level now has a few extra details to it, touched up the trolley and some of the aother things, added a little motor to the sewer boat with the extra thermo space I gained. Removed some hints, but added a little more telling camera work. Love some feedback from someone who has not played the level yet or someone that has...or someone that has yet to leave me feedback. | 2011-01-05 08:15:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
I played the level and its really impressive, pretty difficult when it comes to finguring out what to do next but the way everything was made was great. I did believe the train was too difficult to get on, before I get a chance to react the train just trolls away and it got pretty anoying trying to get on it and figure out what to do. I do like how it makes the player think and creating a dark and vibrant vibe to the level is and extra plus. What I belived really sticked out was the uncolored disolve meterial, it looked noobish and out of contex from the enviroment, with a lil color on top of them it will look alot more presentable. Overall I thought it was great and you worked alot into it. I did play the second part but I got really confused to figure where to go and eventually I lost all my respawing life so I quit the level but the second also looked promising. 4/5 Stay creative | 2011-01-15 22:07:00 Author: Henred Posts: 123 |
There may have been a lag issue because the only dissolve material is in three spaces, and they should all be stickered...but now I am worried there may be a glitch. Do you remeber where you saw it, even if it was a lag issue and not a missing stickered area I think I can alter the camera to avoid it? Good to know the Trolly is an issue, seems that is the most difficult part of the level for people, unfortunately it I edit any corner all teh pistons and connectors vanish. I have tried every other fix I know to make the trolly doors bigger, but it seems none have worked, I will rebuild it later today, thanks for the help. It is good to know removing some of the hints made it more challenging, but not hopeless. Also do you recall where you got lost on the second, just what the area was like? I may need to add one or two hints to that level. | 2011-01-15 22:52:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |

I tried to notice if there was any open up glitches but from what I played it was fine, I dont know if anyone in this thread has posted a glitch problem because I didnt see much big of an issue besides the train. Well on the second part I got stuck around the very far end of the map where theres a recked ship and I didnt know where else to go. Its also the place where you find a newspaper sticker. I really liked the camera angles by the way. | 2011-01-16 00:09:00 Author: Henred Posts: 123 |
Cool thanks. I just touched up the trolley...man was it annoying...every piston vanished when I edited it, and then had to add one more thing and all the pistons vanished again. Trolley updated with larger doors, new direction sign, color lights to show stop timing, and slight interior additions. Thanks for the feedback it got me to finally fix that...too bad that means I have to fix the one in lvl 4 as well. Also I knew it would be good to put a "nothing further this way, head back", but for some reason I just have not...I will get on that right away. Great feedback. Edit: AS of Today all the trolleys have all been replaced, a little hint added to second level, steam crane and other details have been added to all time lines, 3 level extra details added and touched up, 2nd level also touched up with new details and areas, 4th and 5th levels slightly updated as well...it was a long day. Hope this makes the level better than it was. | 2011-01-16 10:39:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
I'll queue this as soon as I can. Again, thanks for your Sanctuarium review! | 2011-01-24 05:21:00 Author: OcamposMoon Posts: 135 |
I tried the level a few times before I started to review this level. The setting looked pretty nice but cramped and the established story was well-founded throughout the level. Though one complaint I had to give was that you stop doing unnecessary photobooth pics. It was thanks to one of those that I fell into a truck with gas and had to start from the beginning. I also admit that the claustrophobic urban setting made the level look more convincing. Overall, I give this level :star::star::star::star:, but no heart since the multi-path trademark that you've placed in your levels wasn't...there and if it were, it might have been a lazy play on my part. When I got into the second part, though, the gas went up and down and I had to replay the level twice before I gave up on it completely. Is that intentional? The darkness on the subway was also a hassle for me too. | 2011-02-01 05:17:00 Author: OcamposMoon Posts: 135 |
No ti is not supposed to do the gas thing. I think that is a glitch that has occured. The multi path does not occur in the game until the fifth level....it was way to much to fin into one. I have remake this one for LBP 2 anyways because of the glitches and the 160 bug, but thanks for the heads up on the photobooth, I did laugh a little knowing it pwned a person, but that is cheap, and I was just lazy about making pics for the level, but not removing the camera. The lighting may be a glitch too with LBP 2, so I will look into it. Thankyou though that helps to know big time. | 2011-02-02 01:23:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
