PS3 Spotlight

Space Assassins: Vol 1Ungreth/Ungreth
http://a.imageshack.us/img827/3069/sa7j.jpgTake a contract as a hired killer in space and assassinate the notorious Lafayette, high priest of a sinister cult who abduct alien children. Explore Space-Org, the cult's cathedral star base to track down Lafayette and uncover the truth behind the abductions. Set in one of the most unique locations I can possibly think of (Alien Space Catherdral?!) Ungreth's latest level captures a look and feel that I've never before seen in LBP. The great setting is home to some great 3D environments and well designed creatures, as well as plenty of puzzling, complex gameplay that will keep you on your toes. Can't wait to see where this series goes next!Darkly beautiful, highly unique visuals, and awesome usage of the 3D layer glitch pervade Ungreth's newest level. I swear there were materials in there that I've never seen before--I came across them and was like "What? Huh? What IS this? Why doesn't my popit have this? *Envy*" And the ending... hilarious.... Want another glimpse of Ungreth's dark humor? Want a challenge? Want to assassinate an evil child-snatcher? ("My greatest dream!" I hear you say. I know... me too... me too.) Want a level that will tear you apart, eat you alive, and look ridiculously good doing so? Grit your teeth and step up to the plate of the highly difficult, but extremely satisfying, Space Assassins.I bit my controller several times when trying to beat some of the stages of this level. But hey, surely it wasn't the angry kind of bite that leaves your teeth sore for the rest of the day. Nah, it was more like the nice type of bite that means "Oh, I nearly did it this time. One more try!" And it really was worth the shot; few levels have felt so rewarding when I finally reached the scoreboard. So let me tell you this: being an assassin is no easy job--especially a space assassin--but when, at the end of the day, after loads of paintinator action, dangerous platforming and cunning methods of assassination, you teleport back to your spaceship with the job done; you sure feel good. And lethal.

PNM Corporation.Faith_rip/Faith_rip
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22872If you are young and healthy, no real family ties, and no real qualifications... Take advantage here ! Become a tester for the Corporation PNM, and give your body and soul to science ! A Brilliant portal parady from the creator of the 'ice age' series. Although English isn't his first language, faith_rip has bravely put together a dialogue based adventure that has you at the mercy of an evil computer. This level will make you think, make you laugh, and make you gasp. Apply to the PNM corporation without delay!I know, I know. Lately we sure had some portal lvls. Many of us already feel like if we actually played the game, even if we didn't. I mean, come on, how many levels can you play based on the very same game. Doesn't it get tiring? Besides, who needs another companion cube? Haven't we already incinerated them way too many times?
No. That's the answer to the above reasons. It doesn't get tiring. It doesn't get old. We haven't had enough of brilliant GLaDOS jokes. We haven't had enough of those hospital like visuals that blend perfectly with the gameplay, that shape into the gameplay. We haven't figured out enough inventive puzzles yet. We haven't been treated enough like a laboratory rat. We want more. And Faith_rip gives you more. And we hope there is even more to come. And cake.

Nocturna SuppresioMaxjeager/angel-punishment
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22693&d=1282684075Traverse this forsaken world and uncover its mysteries. "Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were, but without it we go nowhere" Carl Saganhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od5jh-Ht_R8&feature=player_embedded

At long last, comes the sequel to the great Somnium! As the level before it, Nocturna Suppresio features absoultely stunning 3D effects that create an eerie and atmospheric world that you will want to explore every inch of. An intriguing and well thought out story is present for those who care to read it, some very cool and unique obstacles, plus great bosses bring this level together as an impressive sequel. This level blows me away with some spectacular 3d scenery that spans off into the distance as if your trekking across an alien world! Nothing gives such a sense of scale like running through the ribcage of a giant monster that goes about 30 layers back! The narrative is drip fed to you through runic pillars and yields some nice context for those compelled to read it all. Look this up, you won't be dissapointed. His previous level, "The Somnium", left me speechless. Now, its sequel, left me breathless... which is kinda the same but more threatening to your health. Brilliant, and I repeat, brilliant, and I repeat it in caps, BRILLIANT landscapes by Angel-Punishment. Again. Planets on the horizon, tunnels of rib shaped mountains (or ribs, actually. Who knows?), really interesting quotes and, to top it all, boss battles. I assure you that this is on of the weirdest adventures you'll have in a while. And that comes from a guy who's been playing a lot the level showcase levels recently.

Steam Paint - Locomotive Leviathancroissantbuncake/croissantbuncake
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22845&d=1282959793This is my second steampunk level and takes place amongst the wreckage of a colossal train. This thing is so big, it even carries other trains!!! More stunning visuals from croissantbuncake. His ability to use simple materials and create deep, gritty scenery is outstanding. The locomotive in question here is genuinely threatening and the whole level will keep you absorbed from start to finish. Can you blast your way to the end?Chances are that most of us have quite some experience when it comes to running behind trains that you just couldn't catch because you weren't there at the right time. Well, I assure you that when a train comes directly at you, you really wish that you weren't there at the "right" time. This brilliant level by keeps you "wowing" at the clever steampunkish designs more or less at the same time that keeps you running for your life. Also, be aware that the level features some pretty cool paintinator action and some even cooler effects all mixed with some platforming. Trust me, Locomotive Leviathan is unmissable; mainly because it feels like that enormous train is aiming directly at you.

Zhani?s Palace: Treasure Hunt Nilsder94/Nilsder94
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/1079/littlebigplanet003.jpgIn this level you have to search for a treasure in Zhani?s palace. But you?ll find out it's not that easy.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcOVUkHD4Ss&feature=player_embedded

Enter the fun and frantic world of Zhani's Palace, a beautiful and artistic land that will have you bouncing left, right and center! A great variety of obstacles and some well thought out bubble placement keep this level fun and refreshing, and the promise of a sequel will leave you dripping with anticipation. This is a gorgeous and incredibly entertaining level that you shouldn't miss out on!
Travel through the sand covered ruins of Zhani's palace as you puzzle and bounce your way through a wonderfully ornate level in search of lost treasure! Nilsder94 is another LBPC newbie but that doesn't infer anything at all; there is such a polish on this level that you can almost see your reflection in it's shine!Who can say that he/she doesn't have an evil cousin? I sure can't.
Go through one of the best-designed palaces in LBP, facing one of the most surprising--and fiery!--obstacles I've seen in a while. Completely Mm amped up, this level just doesn't dissapoint on any field. Both gameplay and visuals blend in a superb way! One thing is for sure: when you arrive at the scoreboard, you'll sure be asking yourself what kind of harsh childhood Zhani went through somewhere in India--probably--for him to be so, well, EVIL.
SaharaBrice247/brice-007
http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab142/TheAdipose1980/APhoto.jpgIt's a journey through the desert! This level takes place in the desert. It's quite artistic and beautiful, I hope you'll like it!

The sahara desert, for me at least, is not a place I want to be. But Brice247's brilliant level captures the beauty and atmosphere of the great desert so well that you won't mind the heat at all! Some great gameplay, amazing use of silhouettes and a sublime boss really make this level a classic.Cardboard worlds seem to be coming back in fashion but look out; here comes a level where it's actually done well! Contiuning the spotlight in a sandy fashion, Shamgar has made a desert themed level (well saharan to be precise ) which is carried off so aptly by the perfect shapes and geometry with but a limited pallette of materials. Don't let this description let you think you've got an easy ride because this arty little number ends with a deadly boss fight against a giant sand critter! Put THAT in your paint gun and smoke it!Cardboard and water? Worms that are a tad bigger and meaner than usual? If you are tired of your typical Sahara, with all that uncomfortable sand and those boring dunes just about everywhere you look, search no further! This level features platforming, giant bug extermination and some diving sequences; in other words, all that a cool desert should have. What can I say? Next time somebody tells me how great their vacations on the Sahara were, I'll give them a controller and force them to play this level, so they know all they missed out.
SteamFunk kn0cked-0ut/kn0cked-0ut
http://i33.tinypic.com/dmvew8.pngSteamfunk takes place on a rusty scrapyard, its my latest and last littlebigplanet 1 project and I hope you can enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!kn0cked-0ut presents us with a wonderfully junky race level. Rust-covered beauty in a meticulously-crafted junkyard (what? Beauty in a junkyard? You heard me right!) make this level a pleasurable departure from other race levels. You know the type: the races that are kinda fun, but they're all hot pink? Yeah, those. SteamFunk is a bit short, but it's got solid platforming. I mean... who doesn't like running around on piles of junk? If you're in for a competition, or just want to beat the clock, give it a go!Here comes a nicely rounded race level through a scrappy junkyard thats been peppered with a copious amount of points and many many hazards. Fans of full on race experiences should delight on this one as well as those looking for a slightly unusual setting for inspiration. If you are one of the countles millions of persons that, whenever they think of scrapyards, feels like their chest is gonna explode because all of the happiness and joy that the very idea of a *gasp* scrapyard evokes--and I suspect you are one such person--this level is most definetely your thing. It's as dirty as platforming, as oily as fun, as feculent as awesome. Trust me, even if you're not one of those weird freaks that doesn't love scrapyards, this level is still worth a try!

The Land of the Midnight SunAgent Banana/AgentBanana
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22726&d=1282764545Hey everyone, this is my new level about a mysterious, metaphorical land where the challanges are meant to represent the challanges of creating the level.

The Land of the Midnight Sun is a beautiful and complex environment full of lush plant life and immersive visuals. Some very special set piece moments like a rock slide, a mine cart race and a perplexing windmill make this a memorable level that is sure to impress.Lets be honest with ourselves: we have all seen talking forests, magic forests, subterranean forests and Ent-filled forests. But this is possibly the first time we are to see a forest that treats you as though you were a pinball. But don't be fooled by my frivoulous description of the level: this level is not only about being propelled through the air by the very forest itself, it's also an extremely beautiful stage, with light shining through the foliage and a slight Japanese feel to the whole level.

The Realm of the Ancients: IZynax555/Zynax555
http://a.imageshack.us/img412/1305/aphoto7.jpgWelcome to the Realm of the Ancients, a sacred land once inhabited centuries ago. Explore the lush forest and perhaps you'll stumble upon the ruins of the Ancients A second time in the spotlight from a relatively new creator zynax555. I really enjoyed this forest/temple adventure. Some inventive uses of traditional puzzles made me stop and think several times before I worked my way through. The temple especially has some great architecture and a really fun ride to finish. If you like your levels of the 'adventure' variety - check this one out! Nice visuals AND interesting good looking architecture sure are right up my alley. But don't get me wrong: not everything in this level is about tilting your controller so your sackboy can enjoy the landscape. It also has cunning puzzles that will keep you pressing L2 and R2 so you can scratch your sackboy's head. It also has well paced platforming, so you have another excuse to keep smashing the X button. Best of it all is that nothing feels out of place, you can really tell that you're going trough some outstanding old ruins. Give this realm a chance. It might be kingless, and a tad abandoned, but it is full of experiences.

Autumn WoodsMofoSuperVillain/MofoSuperVillain
http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab142/TheAdipose1980/APhoto_1.jpgWith the change of seasons and turning of leaves you find yourself in autumn woods...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXhVsKA6mts&feature=player_embedded
MofoSuperVillain posted a range of quality levels on the level thread this week, and you can find them all here (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/search.php?searchid=353076)

The change to autumn has brought around this mysterious and mystifying gad through some very artistic woods. Inspired my MrSC's own Mulberry Woods level, this forest offers up great gameplay and bubble combo opportunities but most of all a serene and beautiful world thats unique atmosphere gives it a great touch.Black and white tree goodness! MofoSuperVillain's woodsy platformer is a delight to play. Bouncy tree stumps? Check. Goblin with a floaty balloon thing (who wouldn't want one?!)? Check. Black and white old-school feel? Check. Bubble combos coming out your ears? Check! Try it out!And bubble combos it is. I personally had loads of fun trying to get them all, and also endless frustration failing to do so, mostly because I seem to have butter fingers. But back to the forest: it looked good, it played even better and it was frantic from the very start to the end. If it played this good in autumm, I can't imagine how much fun would I have in it in spring!

Wood worldpsyntens/PSYNTENS
http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab142/TheAdipose1980/APhoto_2.jpgIt's a funny world made entirely of wood, where Sackboy will have himself a fun little big adventure!

The wooden look is all the rage nowadays, and if you can pull it off right you get something that looks great, plays even better and is a blast throughout. Wood world does exactly that, offering up some very clean cut and polished visuals, plenty of bubbles to collect and a whole ton of gameplay and fun. If you've got a craving for some good old fashioned platforming, here's the place.
When I first entered the level, I thought that this was just another wooden themed level. And it is. However, after a minute of playing through it, I realized why would you repeat a working formula. Well... because it works. And in this case, it worked perfectly. Looks perfectly polished and plays even better. It is your wooden platformer classic remade once again and providing what those kind of levels best provide: fun. No exagerating. Tons of fun.

LBL: 4 in 1 - The Yeti's Pass (pitm)OKINGO/O-K-I-N-G-0
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22832&d=1282933402On your way to MM Tower for your creator party you suddenly crash your plane on a mountain.. What brought your plane down and and why ?

Explore these crystalline and icy caves that home to a fierce beast who won't go down without a fight! A great sense of speed through some clever use of glass, cold yet beautiful visuals and some excellent character models make this a great addition to OKINGO's awesome list of levels!
It starts off with a crash-bang (quite literally) and doesn't let up--not when you're rushing over the slick glass or swinging from stalactite to stalactite or battling the massive yeti (*Cue Kool-Aid guy:* "Ohhh yeaaahhhh")! The visuals are great (barnacles and ice have rarely looked so good) and the gameplay is solid. The end is also quite hilarious, reminiscent of Media Molecule's original story levels--and with good reason! Try OKINGO's Yeti's Pass for a fast-paced, beautiful, icy adventure!Cutsey characters and scary monsters await you in 'Kingo's latest creation. Pay no attention to the fact that it's a competition entry, this entry is definatly a full level in it's own right! A truely chilling gad through an icey mountain with a bit of a yeti problem will see you safely at Mm towers in time for the party! If anyone else here is entering LBL's PitM challenge then they should definatly check this one out.Just from the very start, when you read that title, you know it. You know that you're going to have to face one of those ferocious, dangerous, nasty and... white beasts. Go through a cave so cold that will have you frantically searching into your pop-it for a scarf, survive a plane crash, and meet an unexpected ending. Icey platforming all around that will, ironically, make your thumbs burn!

Sky Factory 2SteveBigGuns/steve_big_guns
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22775&d=1282841666Grandad's going to take you to see the Sky Factory, but first Grandma will take you to meet him. Just don't go wandering off now.

Never had I noticed before how awfully empty the sky is. In all seriousness, look at it. What can you see there? Mainly nothing. Few clouds, maybe a plane and possibly bird poop quickly descending towards your face. Well, people, I'm glad Steve solved this problem even before we all noticed it; the sky is not empty any more. Now it's full with amazing gameplay mechanics, floating platforms, a cunning use of the decorations, outstanding visuals, balloons, airships... I actually wouldn't even care if such a perfectly designed sky factory was to block the sun; the whole level would shine out awesomness instead.
Steve_Big_guns returns with another entry into his visually mind blowing Sky Factory series. Fantastic lighting and use of decorations set the stage for one of the most unique and fun platforming levels around. The atmosphere is perfect, and clever demitting trickery adds a new dimension to the grab-and-release launch pads that are used in so many levels nowadays. With the promise of another sequel that is set to be even more mystical than its predecessors, this series is sure to strengthen Steve's strong reputation as one of the finest creators in LBP.

Also from the Showcase...

These levels stand out from the crowd for a variety of reasons, so be sure to check them out!

Battle your way to the front line where you hitch an awesomely familiar ride on a well-equipped tank. Help out your blue brothers-in-arms and prepare to fire!Ragefulnoobs has made a level that is truly unforgetable. An opening war sequence right of the playbook of Spielberg and Kubrick, with artillery raining down, and explosions everwhere, you won't have time to think, just run. Oo-rah!!!!

The Wheel DealFastbro/Fastbrohttp://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Spotlights/PSP%20Episode%2047/5.jpgReturn to the bedroom to celebrate your recent victory against the soldiers. The king of toys has thrown a party in your honour but out of nowhere disaster stikes... The king is taken away by a giant hand! Now you must travel to the dark side... Of the room to get him back! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Exn1VtE2PxQ

Fastbro takes us back to the bedroom in his hilarious new level. The mission is simple: Infiltrate the castle via the "Catapulter", defeat the dark side, and save the king. Of course, nothing is simple. With tons of shout outs to the lbp community, and a book case overstocked with some of the best reading of all time. Grab this one now!!Ok. Forget for a moment about the brilliant vehicles, hilarious story, and wildly entertaining gameplay. What you really need to be paying attention to in Fastbro's most recent publish is the scenery! Subtle references and inside jokes abound in this masterful creation, so keep a sharp eye when you play this one. Is it just me, or does that portrait on the wall look familiar?Fastbro returns with one of his best levels so far, and it's all down to a great use of stickers, a humourous story and excellent vehicles. A level that stands above the Turbo! Pack in so many ways, this one has to be played to be believed.Fastbro's 'The Wheel Deal' delivers humour, cool vehicles and impressive visuals in spades. Look out for the brilliant ending to this epic tale in particular, blink and you might just miss it.

The Wicked ManufactorySilver39/Silver39_7http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Spotlights/PSP%20Episode%2047/2010-09-02-004-Silver39.pngDelve into the depths of this odd building and discover things aren't exactly as they seem.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGZLSh-HYF4

Nothing like a strange, creepy factory and Silver39_7 has created one of the strangest ones I've ever platformed through. Crystal clean aesthetics, ingenious game play, clever puzzles, and some segments that left me wishing I had thought of that. Plus an ending that.. just play the level. Some truly genius gameplay elements combine with a slew of menacing machinery in a sterile, high-tech factory. Er, manufactory. This incredible level will have you on your little stitched toes from the moment you pop through the level entrance right until you finally reach the scoreboard.Factory levels aren?t few and far between, but it's very rarely that we get to play one so well designed and cleanly executed as silver?s latest level. Beautifully integrated platforming awaits you in his latest adventure, and you?ll love every minute of it. Don?t miss out on this excellent effort.

This spotlight looks great. I'll try to get on PS3 to play the levels I haven't! Judging by the pictures, this could be one of the cooliest spotlights yet! (although I do say that every spotlight because they seem to get better and better...)

Thanks spotlight team!

And Jeeeeze, the PSP levels look great too, I'll try to borrow my cousins PSP and play 'em!

Well I loved my time in the crew, and take it from me, their awesome. They devote an epic amount of effort for nothing in return, just the joy of playing these wonderful levels. You know I played yours. Worry not, the only problem is that you submitted it too late, you cunning *******!
It will be considered for the next spotlight. There are no lvls that undergo our radar, I'm betting our next creating jam session on it.

Mnn, don't worry about it. I would've spotlighted it if I had the chance but it's alot more important that you and your friends like it, which i'm jealous about because you have so many. xD

Edit: And it's just that you posted it at the wrong time. I think that was my fault! Sorry.

Congratulations to all the creators who made it into the Spotlight. There are some truly excellent levels on there (Space Assassins was just amazing!) and I must go and play the ones I've missed. Personally, I'd have added IceMaiden's Nocturne to the list but I appreciate these things are ultimately subjective.

Anyway, a big thank you to the new look Spotlight Crew - I really enjoyed reading the reviews.

Woo-hoo! Thanks so much for the spotlight everyone! And congratulations to all the other authors who were spotlighted. It was great to see so many levels spotlighted from the Race for the Case competition on PSP. It is always encouraging to see a competition push authors to try new things, and we had some awesome vehicle based levels come from authors who I would not expect to see vehicle levels from (where were you Sailieri? ).

BTW, Taffeys feedback on Kaiju's NASCOW level was absolutely incredible

[EDIT: AACK! I forgot to thank the Spotlight team! Thanks for all of your hard work. I completely missed the fact that VelcroJonze has joined the PSP ranks. Congrats man! It is great to see you there!]

I just wanted to say - your first issue (why wasn't mine spotlighted) was quite rude - to the community and to the spotlighters.

Many people have spent countless hours creating their levels (some quite astounding and original) and never get a spotlight - so to come in and complain you didn't get your second one based on the overall opinions of the spotlighters - was quite rude.

Many people probably feel the same about their own levels, but hopefully, everyone won't flood the spotlight pages with similar comments (even if they have a valid point).

These are spotlights based on opinions. Nobody is making money eitherway on this.

Anyway, looks to be a fantastic spotlight. Thanks to all the spotlighters for taking time to play the exhausting list of levels.

Great job by all involved!

Hey guys, just a little update per a few of the levels.

Due to a new system that I put in place for organizing the levels that the spotlight team play each fortnight, we had accidentally missed out on Sky Factory 2 and Nocturne. Sky Factory 2 has been late-added to the spotlight, and we are going to push Nocturne into the next episode. I take full responsibility for the mix up, and we hope to resolve such issues in the future. Like I said, it's a new system, and we had quite a few new members, so when I wrote up the tutorial for using the new system, I failed to mention that we need to check the Cool Levels forum for anything that would have gotten through more quickly than we could update our list.

I think some of the spotlight crew feel like they made a mistake and might be embarrassed by the error, but I shoulder full responsibility. Sorry guys. Let's learn from this, knowing that we can only get better.

Hey Bit of a nebish question here how do i get a level spotlghted?

To get spotlighted, basically, you have to make a good lvl, post it on the lvl showcase, and the super spotlight squad will play it and decide if its spotlighy enough. Worry not, if it doesn't get spotlighted it's just because you still have room to improve
More information here: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=34118-How-Does-the-Community-Spotlight-Work-... (thanks to Holguin for writing that thrad)

Congrats to all spottlighted levels !!! Just another great choice of cool levels... my favorite is -without doubt- Steve's Sky Factory 2 - it's such a viusal blast - oh my goodness.... awesome!

but after all, I'm a bit confused LOL - my levels are getting better and better but I didn't make it into the spottlights (again)... that's a pitty... ^^ thought my lates creation could/would make it there... but there is a little chance, that my level's thread was posted to late for this spottlight - so maybe there's a (little) chance for the next spottlight! :-)

HAHA... maybe there's another chance to get spottlighted - can I bribe someone????
