The Hero Chronicles LV7 Dragon RuinsJustinArt http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=23382The ruins holds a secret that could have a hero explore to any planet. Complete the tasks of earth, water, wind, and fire to gain the dragons' trust. Gameplay varies depending on an element. The semifinal of the "Hero Chronicles" level series features well you guessed it judging by the level's title... dragons. More than that, the level includes a variety of obstacles based on the elements like moving rocks, waving water, floating platforms, fire hazards, and more. The visuals are also varied with different environments and lighting and FINALLY I did a lot more corner editings than my previous levels [ you probably applause did you?]. It's similar to one of my old levels "The Hero Quest LV9 The Temple of Elements" except that this level has even more details, gameplay varied, and polishing than that. When you play this level, you'll be surprised how much hard work I put in this level and you'll be seeing the new and improved JustinArt. Well there's only one "The Hero Chronicles" level left and that's LV8. It'll arrive in Mid-October because it's going to be epic. SPECIAL THANKS TO: -Morgana25, Shawneboi, and jump_button- For the major inspirations of this level as this level is inspired by Morgana25's "Dragons of Myth" series, Shawneboi's "Zelda Temple" and "Elemental" series, and jump_button's certain levels. This level is also inspired by certain video games and TV shows. -And anyone else in LBPC for encouragements and ideas in my previous levels and some inspirations. | 2010-09-04 00:07:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Enjoyed your last level, so here goes. - Move the starting camera up more, so there is less ground and the dragon eye/head is completely in view. - More platforming elements during the title would be beneficial. + Cute dragon and nice joke about the great grandfather. - First grab switch comes down a little too far, I thought I was gonna get squished! Also tidy up that first sticker so you can't see it before the path opens. - The grab switch pathway doesn't reset if you dont enter. - Bonus blocks (yellow block with red gem) would be way better if it was all red (or yellow), and corner editied to look like shape of the gem. - Can see a dark matter block top right of cat looking statue. - Hard to know to go back a layer in the center, as the gold material looks flat. Perhaps add a light in there or something. + Love the blue lighting. + At first I didn't like the large tide/waves, but it added something to the gameplay which is always good. - The blue fire sponge is very distracting. Might I suggest filling the thin layer hole with dissolve to hide it at first, then dissolve it when the player reaches the back layer? + R1 booster looked great with those bright trees on the way. + Large eagle decoration looks great. + Great looking style through the temple/sky part. - Emit the up/down platforms out of view of the player. + Orb treasure hunt is a really fun idea. - Eagle decoration looks out of place at the start of the fire sponges. + Really diggin the yellow/black islands material in the fire section. It blends in with the fire really well. - Can completely skip doging the fireballs by dropping down a layer to the switch. Just add a small thin layer fence or something. + Red dragon wheel reveal was nice. + Fire breath platforming was cool. - Teleporter death. + Awesome dragon head design. + I thought it was going to be a long boring battle with the dragon but no, BAM! Stages baby. Love it. + Folded gameplay for the infinite ammo gun was nice. - Hard to see gas to the right of the paint gun. Replace with solid wall or make it more visible. Camera also played a part. - Final dragon magic mouth is censored. After shooting at him some more in vein, I decided to try going backwards, good thing I did. Yeah! Had fun, nice level. Will definitely be playing the sequel when it comes out. Your levels deserve more plays. EDIT: Played your ice level too. Another fun boss in that one. Creator heart for you. | 2010-09-04 02:21:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Hey, I'd say that this is your best level yet. One of my favorite improvements that I've seen you make is your corner-editing, seriously, you've came a pretty long ways from where you were, which is a good thing, it made the earthy parts of this level much more interesting. The gameplay was also very good too, I am practically never impressed by water based gameplay, but you've done really good with this one, there was a lot of innovative feeling areas. The length was crazy too, and the bossfight was awesome! Great work, looking forward to Part 8, :star::star::star::star::star:. | 2010-09-04 02:49:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |

I'm trying to figure out why the last magic mouth of the level's boss is censored. I didn't put any bad words or anything so maybe it's just a glitch. Most of the advices could really help. Thanks. I already F4Fed "Ratchet and Clank" and "Sound 'n' space" so I guess your next level to look at and return the F4F is "Calvin and Hobbes". Hey, I'd say that this is your best level yet. I haven't heard from you about any of my levels since "LV2 Twilight Towers". And yes, corner editing really paid up. Thanks. | 2010-09-04 04:34:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
As usual, this is a great level. I like the dragon caves a lot, they are a good balance of detail & erm... cave-likenessness (?) Out of all of the areas I think I enjoyed the wind area the most. Probably because of the platforms with the drill underneath. A great variety of gameplay implemented superbly. One part I did struggle with was the water section. Where I got to the sponge ball with the blue star decoration on. I moved it to the decoration on the wall but nothing appeared to happen. Only when I died did I realise the way to progress. Maybe you could add a magic mouth with a cutscene angle? Also, what does the final boss say when defeated? At the moment it seems like he's just swearing at you for defeating him. Here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=26378-LBP-In-Game-Censorship-List&p=458601#post458601) is a link to censored words to help. The boss fight was exceptional, but after defeating him I wasn't sure where to go. Until he killed me in his rampage and I spawned next to the arrow. Maybe have the baby dragon say, 'This way! Hurry!' or something. Speaking of dragons, I really like the style of them! :star::star::star::star::star: & <3 Can't wait for the last one! I don't have anything to F4F that you haven't already commented on, so don't worry about it. | 2010-09-04 12:03:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |
Great level! I loved the varied scenery and the final boss in particurlar. The use of limitted paintinator ammo was very good too. Overall I gave it five stars! Keep it up! | 2010-09-04 13:56:00 Author: chimpskylark Posts: 335 |
Hey Frogboy. I haven't heard from you about any of my levels since "LV2 Twilight Towers". And yes, corner editing really paid up. Thanks. That made me feel bad, so I went back and left fedback on 3, 4, 5, and 6 for you. | 2010-09-04 17:14:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |

I updated the level last night after reading Midnight_heist's feedback and I changed the dialogue a bit and it is still censored. Looks like I have to replace the magic mouth. Anyways hears what he said after you destroyed his forehead with the paintinator but the dialogue might change in the next update. NOOO!!! If I'm going down, I'll take you with me! You better not escape with the opened door near the checkpoint! It means after the boss lose his forehead, head back to the checkpoint and move to the left to escape the boss' wrath. | 2010-09-04 17:17:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
'opened' is the word in question. Have him say, 'You better not escape with the door by the checkpoint!' | 2010-09-04 17:23:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |
Wow what an epic level. Everything tied in nicely. The first area was ok. Nothing wrong with it but it did'nt excite me. The other three areas was just was so packed with action and nice platforming. The water section was cool. I liked how you used the rising water as an obstacle with the electric boxes. The fire area was nice too. I like the swinging action in it. Theres one area you might want to fix in the fire section. There are 5 platforms going up and down. Its possible to jump straight to the 3rd platform easily, which I dont think was intended. Y ou might also want to add a checkpoint there . The wind section was my favorite part. I really liked that spinning obstacle u jump in between. The race was clever. I didnt finish in time because of that one you hid so well . Good job on that. The boss fight was pretty good. I liked how his attacks curved upward. This level is a real gem. I gave it 5 stars and a heart. Can't wait til we fight the big boss | 2010-09-05 01:45:00 Author: L1GhTmArE Posts: 519 |
'opened' is the word in question. Have him say, 'You better not escape with the door by the checkpoint!' Well I found the reason why the dialogue is censored. I changed the dialogue and it is no longer censored. Thank you very much Jedi. I also fixed the puzzle of the doorway in the water section you mentioned it. Wow what an epic level. Great level. I think this is the best one you've made yet. 5 stars. That has to be one of my favorite boss battles too. Quite unique. The limited paintinators worked very well, and the rippling bounce was just a lot of fun. I think your greater familiarity with corner edit has yielded some great results. Much cleaner lines and shapes. I could see some dark matter on one of the down going platforms. But that's it as far as issues. Awesome level. I'd love your feedback on my F4F Flying Saucers From Mars. Thanks | 2010-09-05 23:19:00 Author: thanatos989 Posts: 248 |
The original post I was going to make was lost when I accidentally closed the tab, so here's the gist of it. Story/Dialog + Original story and home-brew characters. - Some of the dialog was just nonsensical. - The use of run-on sentences and poor spelling/grammar, though fairly well controlled, was not overly difficult to find. Gameplay + The gameplay was always fresh and varied with each new elemental phase. + The oscillating water made for some interesting and fun gameplay elements. + The use of a paintinator without unlimited ammo is a rare thing to see in any community level, and you did it quite well during your boss fight. - However, perhaps it was a little bit too limited. I found that with only 5 shots, I often only managed to hit the boss 1/5 times with it, and because of it, it took a long time to defeat him. Maybe 10 shots would prove a little more fruitful. - I got stuck here: http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m88/justin11213/TheHeroChroniclesLV7DragonRuins.jpg I don't know if this was intentional or not, but I couldn't get out, and it was just plain annoying. Design and Aesthetics + Almost everything was well made and painstakingly corner-edited. + The dragons, though sometimes odd, all look pretty good. + The use of custom stickers, including those that looked "pixely", were a welcome sight. It gave some parts almost an 8-bit feel. - Very few minor design flaws, such as dark matter visible in limited places. Final Thoughts I have not much to say other than what has been said, less perhaps "good job". I would recommend this level to others, and maybe I'll play it again sometime down the line. Final Score::star::star::star::star: F4F Please give my level The Lost Treasure of the Golden Temple (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=32609-The-Lost-Treasure-of-the-Golden-Temple&p=566282) a try and leave some feedback. I think this is one of your better levels in the series, definitely my favorite. +The use of water going up and down as a gameplay element. I rarely see that in levels. Also the gameplay never got boring (except for one part), which is great. I love levels that keep me entertained all the way through. +I don't know if it's just my bias towards the theme, but I really enjoyed the air element part. +I found the boss fight design to be a nice twist on the normal stand and shoot design; it was very fun. +/-The visuals are nice but I still think you use too many different materials and many of the colors and textures of the chosen materials clash with one another. - Puzzle design is as such that it seems more like a chore than an actual puzzle because the answer is so obvious right off the bat. For example putting the four marked circles into their respective slots is, in my opinion, is the most boring puzzle ever, and on top of that the most overused one in the game. 4 stars and a creator heart this time! Will you please give me feedback on my newest level, LBL 4 in 1 - The Realm of the Ancients: II; Journey to MM Towers (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=34981-LBL-4-in-1-The-Realm-of-the-Ancients-II-Journey-to-MM-Towers), thanks. | 2010-09-06 15:45:00 Author: zynax555 Posts: 170 |

Well I thought I hid all the dark matters perfectly when I created the foreground glitch but I guess I should put the foreground around the floating platforms a bit closer. Sorry for the late F4F >.< I was busy this weekend and was never able to get around to it. However, I just finished playing it and here's my feedback! Pros - The gameplay was fantastic this time around. Really enjoyed the entirety of the level. - The boss battle, albeit a paintinator one, was neat. Mainly because I noticed the dragon's tail curled around the pillar in the 3D background. xD I just thought that was really cool. - Certain visuals were magnificent. The story was great as well and I really enjoyed this one the most out of all your levels. :3 The 4 elements always makes for a fun and exciting level to play because it allows for unexplained variety that most levels aren't able to do without some things seeming out of place. Cons - The gold aztec metal (can't recall the name right now) looked sort of gimmicky to me and dragged down some of the visual flare. I'm unsure of what to replace it with, but I suggest experimenting with some other things to see how they look. Very fun level. A must play. :star::star::star::star::star: <3 (By the way, I don't think I've said it, but I have an author heart on you. xD) | 2010-09-07 00:07:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |

Hey Justinart. Thanks for the feedback on Archaic Ascension, I'm glad you liked it. I just played through yours, here are my thoughts. I've played through quite a few of your levels in the past, so playing through this one really shows off how much you've grown as a creator lol. Personally, I think this level blows your other stuff right out of the water. Your best use of the 3d yet, combined with a very nice boss and a lengthy bout of fun gameplay made this a very fun level to go through. My favorite section was the air section, it looked and played the best imo. The water section used the water waves very well and I thought you had some great gameplay there too. I think that some of your character models and scenes could still use some touching up, but judging by how every level you build is better than the last, I'm sure you're gonna nail it in the next one, Great work, cat wait for part 8. | 2010-09-07 04:47:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |
Dragon in the beginning... well, not terribly pretty to look at. Try using varied materials, different stickers, and more decorations. Nice credits! And I loved the little dragon. I think there's a bit too much rainforest stone... interlace varied materials. The stair-room was pretty sweet, and had good visuals! I love the gameplay with the waves, too. Good work with that. I got confused with the star gem underwater. It was a luttle unclear what I was to do with it. Took me dying to figure out what I just did. Wind place looked great! Awesome glitch work and the drills were cool. Spinning wheel's a bit hard to navigate though. Jumps are a tad far. Fire place looked sweet too. I think you got better as you went... Seems like you have a good range of characters, too. Well done with that. So here's my synopsis: Mostly good gameplay, sometimes confusing (especially when you had to go behind the latticed stone). The visuals varied greatly and were on average pretty unpolished. There were a few times you got into a groove and it looked pretty great, especially with wind and parts of fire. You're also pretty good with the 3D glitch... almost better than you are with the standard layers. Overall, pretty good. I gave it :star::star::star:! | 2010-09-10 03:52:00 Author: Ryhas Posts: 179 |

Awesome, nice variations of the usual "temple of elements" I mean, is'nt really a variation, since is basically a "temple of elements" but i like the fresh approach and specially the change of atmosphere. The quality got some up and down, for example the first rock area maybe is'nt incredible, but the wind area is really really nice and balance it The challenge is at good levels and the action is never boring, good rythm Cool boss fight! Final result: really nice level, probably the best after sky city (i REALLY enjoyed sky city), 5 stars For F4F try my Nights level, here is the thread https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=34950-Nights-into-Dreams | 2010-09-11 14:52:00 Author: GEK83 Posts: 163 |
Hi, I'll write the review as I play + nice intro - the falling rocks traped me. I had to kill myself - the materials seem to have been chosen randomly (you mix golden with rocks) + AWESOME gate that which seems to be a dragon + nice gameplay in the water - the puzzle in the water is soooo typical + the flying platforms are awesome. Good job + the platforming part with fire is brilliant, but the musing does not fit too much + the boss is pretty nice. I didn't like that you have to recharge so ofter. It makes the boss slow. In general is great, and in partiucular visually is awesome Overall :star::star::star::star::star: from me. It would be great if you could F4F my level "The tanks factory 2" | 2010-09-11 16:09:00 Author: onturenio Posts: 138 |
I thought I fixed the material choices but I still need to fix them. I reduced the number of gold aztec materials but perhaps I'll reduce more in the next update and try experiment different materials to see if it fits well. Also I clarified the star gem puzzle near the end of the water section. | 2010-09-11 18:02:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
This was one amazing level, I need to go back and catch myself up on the series because LV 7 was fantastic. My favorite part about it was that each elemental area had its own unique look and music. I also liked that the gameplay got harder as I went along, giving it that "real" video game feel. In the earth section, the ceiling closing in on the players was awesome and had me on the edge of my seat. Other than that though, I mainly thought the earth section just looked really good. The water area was a lot of fun, very unique water gameplay. The 4 sponges puzzle was probably my favorite part in the water section. The sky part was awesome, the wheel with the cross inside was cool, and the rising and falling platforms were really cool, I liked that you have to return to them to get back up. I too was a fan of the 8 orb race, although I didn't finish in time. Fire area was tough, but fun. The boss fight was one of my favorites, I liked the stages, especially when the paintgun was on the ceiling. Fantastic and fun level. 5 stars and a heart | 2010-09-11 23:24:00 Author: Unknown User |

Alright as suggested by recent feedbacks, I changed the materials in certain areas and it looked more cleaner and has less gold materials [well I hope it's more cleaner]. I hope this helps. | 2010-09-12 20:52:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Played your level for F4F! Here's what a I thought: -Great concept! Loved the elements you implemented throughout the level and the dragons were great! The baby dragon was my favourite character. The eniviroments weren't as smooth as I would like them to be. The corners were sharp angles, which made it slightly harder to land on them after a jump than a corner edited or smooth one. That boss fight was great! Unfortunately, it was a little hard for my liking. The bouncing platforms were cool, but they were a little fast when they started to bounce. Overall, awesome level! I loved it! :star:x4! | 2010-09-15 02:50:00 Author: grayspence Posts: 1990 |
Hey justinart, I played your level today and I really liked it. I think you have some nice platforming in there! Generally, the visuals are very nice too. Some areas I think you could have spruced up with a little more lighting or something. I really liked the air section, and the fire sections though. Very nice!! Your boss was cool too. I did run into a little bit of trouble though. In the water section, the third electrified sponge was stuck all the way up. I tried and tried to jump it to no avail. Then it came unstuck on its own. I ran past then it stuck again on the next rise. I think it would be an easy fix to trim, or shrink it down a bit so it fits better. Nice level!! | 2010-09-22 00:58:00 Author: smasher Posts: 641 |

Alright as we're counting down to the epic finale LV8 [still likely to be published in Mid-October], I decided to add something new to all 7 of "The Hero Chronicles" that tells you where would the final level take place. You'll find it in the following levels plus the updates: LV1 Magical Forest You'll see it near the switch at the beginning of the cursed forest. Also this level has more corner edits than ever. LV2 Twilight Towers In the sky above the Tower of Light where you must put the lights into the sun, you'll see it. Not that much has changed in this level except a bit more corner edit. LV3 Action Mansion Near the giant dead tree in Horror room. It's already updated as heard in separate thread that just bumped into cool level pages. LV4 The Lost Lagoon At the beach in the end of the level. This level has been updated with big changes. More info in that thread later. LV5 Glacier Volcano In a huge cave hole before going against the boss in it's lair. I added more decorations and created an open area in the boss' lair as I already mentioned. LV6 Sky Metropolis You'll easily see it at the top right after you teleported into the evening sky city. Also the last dialogue of Rex in this level clarifies how you should go to Dragon Ruins. And last but not least this level... You'll see it near the dragon head of Fire section by looking at a sky. This level has been updated with the fixes mentioned by Smasher plus 2 cutscenes added [one after you open the door at the end of Water section and the other after you collected the emerald near the moving platforms in Wind section]. EDIT: Take a look at the new attachments for a sneak preview of LV8 that I took the rough draft pictures of the level in progress last week. 245292452724528 | 2010-09-24 00:17:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
I Liked all the levels, although 3 and 6 deemed a bit like a Back To the Future 3...still good, but just not part of the same time-line. I am not sure if there is a way to tie them in more, but it just seemed a jump...still great levels though. I think this level was the most epic of them yet. I did like the level six city, the taxis were great. I noticed at the end of this level the bubble said "an Hero" instead of "a Hero". I thought there was a later level too...figured the planet would come into play...but I think I was confusing that with your old postings of a level 8. In the last level there did seem to a be a lack of the little dragon in the middle...started to forget about him. Oh in the water level the dolphin's mouth moved a bit slow for his speech (just bugged me a little). The boss at the end was very well done, I loved the sword battle in your earlier level, but I think this one was better. In the race finding the green bubbles the base seemed a little lacking (the white toxic gas layer) compared to the rest of the area, and I was able to skip the race through the top right corner. I was not sure what would happen if I did not finish so I went back and completed the orb search...but I think I could have just continued on. The spinning drill platforms was one of the better scene...really liked that part. In your fire and ice level found jumping over the rolling flames a little difficult and the final boss, while good, the emitters did not always work (I think because when you grab the grabbable you are blocking where it emits to), oh and the ice attacks seemed a little evil compared to the fire...but I think the biggest deal was not getting the emit to work. All in all a good consistent arch...excluding the 3 and 6 just seeming off. Some character mixing as the levels went on would have been cool. You have the one character, but the others seemed to fall by the side as it continued. Thanks for the feedback, hope this helped a little too. | 2010-09-27 05:49:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Outstanding level you have here. I love all the visuals in the extra layers, Great game play and fantastic water sections and the whole floating platforms with the turbines at the bottom, brilliant. The boss takes a little long to kill, I'd think as someone else said be better if there was more ammo n the guns, its a little to long to keep refilling all the time even with good aim. I gave this 4 stars and tagged brilliant and definitely playing the other levels now. Look forward to the next chapter, keep up the great work! | 2010-09-27 15:37:00 Author: LordMagicPants Posts: 187 |

I just adjusted the limit ammo of the paintinator on the ceiling. Also the foreground glitch of the boss' arena is now decorated with the stickers and decorations and an earthquake effect has been added when you are near the entrance to the earth area. Still looking forward to LV8? I got great news. The official publish date of both part 1 and 2 is either October 18th, 19th, or 20th depending on how much time I need to finish both of them. Here's a hint of what part 1 of the finale will have: Background: Blank because this level will have amazing layer glitches that it have to be seen in blank background. Opening music: "Abomination Alley" NPC: Every "The Hero Chronicles" NPC you met in the first 7 levels including Mira The Sorceress and Rex the Mighty Dude. There's a lot more to be seen when it's published. | 2010-10-02 16:56:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Great level! The visuals were really good (I really liked the water, wind, and fire areas) and the platforming and obstacles were solid all around. All of the dragon characters and statues were very cool as well. I especially liked the part where you had to enter the dragon's mouth and avoid the fire. It reminded me a lot of the castles from the original Super Mario Bros. 5 stars and a heart. I'll be playing the rest of this series when I get a chance and I'm looking forward to part 8. | 2010-10-10 02:56:00 Author: Camden1 Posts: 83 |
Sorry it took so long for F4F...i had duty this weekend... Anyway...just got finished playing LV7....and I loved it! I'm truly impressed with the amount of gameplay that you squeezed into the level...covering all four elements at once is no easy feat with a touchy thermo! My favorite section was the water area...really liked the rising and falling water platforming...something not done too often. I also really liked the rising platforms in the wind area... Only a few little suggestions... 1. the water area could use and extra checkpoint...but thats just me 2. The floor in the jetpack area not being gas would be great! 3. During the boss battle it was hard to see under the dragon due to the rocks in the foreground... Other than that its was fun all around! 5 stars and a heart for the creator! And Shawneboi, I lowered the rocks in the foreground glitch of the boss' arena. Also I did a little adjustments of the adult dragon NPC as he looks much better than before. Well this is it. In about 4 or 5 days, the epic finale LV8 will be published and both part 1 and 2 are going to be my biggest levels of LBP1. Right now, I'm working on the series' final boss. | 2010-10-16 02:21:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
