Man, you and I could make a sweet Q&A thread if we keep this up

There are a few ways to do this. One requires a LOT of trust, one requires a PS3, and the last is pretty straight forward.

1) The easy way is just to chat with someone on LBPC and ask them if they are up for testing. If they say they are, then you will publish, tell them you published and ask them to let you know when they download it, and then delete it off the community moon once they get it. This is the way I have been doing it up until Destiny 2, so it works great :-)

2) If you have a PS3, then you can use Ad-Hoc through the PS3. Let me explain a bit: The PSP can use Ad-Hoc (which is how two PSPs communicate with eachother) to exchange levels between two PSP systems. If Taffey and I were neighbors, then all I would have to do is show up at his door with cookies and ask him to test my level for me and then we could boot our PSPs up and I could give him my level to test. Well.. we aren't neighbors, and we actually live all the way across the country, but through our PSP we can use Ad-Hoc as if we are standing right next to eachother. It basically tricks the PSP into thinking the person is right there :-) If you want more info on this then just let me know. Be warned, though, that your PS3 needs to have an ethernet cable running to it because this will not work if you have the PS3 using wireless.

3) You can also send your levels through e-mail using the Magic Crater method. You need to be VERY careful with this method, because you are sending your level to the person's CREATE moon, so if they want, they can steal the level and publish it!!! Make sure that you only use this method with someone you trust. The way it works is that you save your level onto a specific crater on your moon, then you backup your profile onto your computer. Since you saved the level on a specific crater, you can locate the files for it in your backup on the computer, and you can e-mail the files. When the tester places these files into their backup on their computer, it will replace the level that they have on that crater with your level, and then they can test it, and check it out in create mode, and have a blast. This is the method that I use now because it is so easy to just send my level whenever I want, plus I trust my two testers because they are awesome guys :-)

Those are the main three methods. If you want more details about the magic crater method then I think I could dig up some info on it because Taffey has written a nice long post about it.

I hope that that helps!

Awesome avatar Poo! I Generally just do an open testing, with my level online for a short amount of time and posting a thread here to get people to play and test it. I also notify the people who I want to test my level the most, so they are aware of it. This opens the door to people who want to test levels of all abilities. I would've tested my rftc entry but I left it too late and only finished it an hour before it closed. BTW, who are your testers Poo? Cause I want to blackmail them so I can find out about your next immense project. 2010-09-01 18:18:00

Ethernet Cable? I only have one a 6 inch one (and it's already connected to my computer - but just in-case my wireless acts up) that I got for free with my router. Other than that my entire house is wireless. But for LBP it's worth it.
*buys 20 foot cable* . And do I need to get ad-hoc party? Or can I just use x-link kai?

Ad-Hoc party is the way to go i think. Remember, you don't need that to share levels, so you could always just use the first method I mentioned. With Ad-Hoc party, you are going to NEED to have both you and the person getting the level online at the same time since both PSPs need to communicate.

Don't pay a lot for an ethernet cable because they should be pretty inexpensive, but I could see somewhere like Best Buy trying to charge an arm and a leg for it. I wish I could just give you one because we have probably 20 of them in storage (lots of Halo LAN parties in High School and College ).

xD you think i'd go to bestbuy for a cable? i could get a 100 ft cable for like 10 bucks at some flea market (there's like a billion in toronto). Besides my freind is like the cable master. I swear he has a thousand cables running through his house. I could walk into his house and while he's probably playing MW2 I could take an HD cable and leave and he wouldn't care. 2010-09-01 19:52:00

Awesome! Well then I would certainly give the Ad-Hoc party method a try. I cannot currently use the method because the PS3 and TV are downstairs with the wireless router upstairs, and we have no cables long enough.2010-09-01 19:54:00

Poo you are one very helpful dude! I would really like to know more about the 3rd method. So if you could send me a more detailed message or link to taffy's post I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.!2010-09-02 00:41:00

Ok, first of all, remember that all of this is compliments of Taffey and he deserves 100% of the credit for writing this up. I am copying this from his original post, so don't thank me for it, instead, go find a post that Taffey made somewhere and thank him randomly

Secondly, REMEMBER THAT WHEN YOU TRANSFER A LEVEL THIS WAY, THE PLAYER ON THE RECEIVING END WILL HAVE IT ON THEIR CREATE MOON SO THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT WITH IT!!!! That means that they can steal your level if they want, so please please PLEASE be careful!

One other thing to remember is that this guide is very detailed, but once you get the hang of this it is VERY easy. It's just a matter of backing up your profile the usual way, then looking through the files to find 5 files (which is easy to do) and then sending those through e-mail. The person on the other end just needs to drag these files into their saved backup and they will then have the level on their create moon.

Here is Taffey's guide to the magic crater method:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before you begin
BACK UP YOUR ENTIRE PROFILE. I assume you all know how to do this already, but if you don't just ask. But really, PLEASE back up your data NOW. We will be messing with system files located inside your LBP profile folder, and you simply must have a backup file in order to proceed.

Overview
This system is based on the alternate level restoration method jc came up with months and months ago. What we'll be doing is creating a dummy file on your PSP and directly overwriting it with a handful of very specific files that contain the level information. It sounds scary and confusing at first, but the concept is really quite simple. Just take it slow and ask lots of questions.

Step 1 - Create a dummy level
The first thing you need to do is identify what we will call "the magic crater". That's a stupid name, yes, but you won't forget it anytime soon now will you? The magic crater is located at the VERY TOP of My Moon, right near where the string attaches. The magic crater is easily identifiable because it is a stand-alone crater space, as opposed to the clusters of craters also found on My Moon. The magic crater is the only stand-alone crater at the top of My Moon:

http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/20100624-194617.jpg

If you have a level located in the magic crater already, you will need to move it. We will be overwriting the level in this spot soon, so make sure to move anything you want to keep. Once you've cleared the space, select the magic crater and create a blank level. There does not need to be anything in it at all, so just save the level and then exit back to My Moon.

Step 2 - Downloading the new level
Each My Moon level in LBP PSP is represented by five different system files. Each of these files has the same prefix but different extensions, which makes them easy to identify. Normally, the easiest way to get these files from one person to another is simply via e-mail.

Save the file somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop. This is a compressed file, so you will need to extract the files to your computer before you can use them. In most cases you can simply double click the file to open the compressed folder and view the five individual files inside. Extract/copy/move these files to your computer - again, somewhere easy to find like your desktop. When you are finished, the five files you should have are: 52.CBF, 52.LBF, 52.LVL, 52.MBF, 52.MIP.

Step 3 - Copy the files to your PSP
Quit LBP and connect your PSP to your computer via USB cable. Browse to your LBP profile folder, which is under PSP > SAVEDATA. For NA region games the profile folder is called UCUS98744PROFILE, and for EU region games it is UCES01264PROFILE. Select the five files that you just downloaded and drag them directly into this folder. You will get a dialog box asking if you want to overwrite these files - choose 'yes to all'.

Step 4 - Open the new level
Launch LBP, go to My Moon, and locate the magic crater. If you've done everything right (and this system worked), instead of a blank level you will see the level that was sent to you.

The Quick Version
Bored with my long-winded description and/or just need a refresher? Here's the quick version.

- Make a backup of your profile just in case.
- Create a blank level in the magic crater.
- Exit LBP and connect your PSP to your computer.
- Download the test level files.
- Extract these files and drop them directly into your LBP profile folder.
- Launch LBP and the new level should appear in the magic crater.

People, if you want your levels to be noticed put them on the Level and Object Showcase thread. Who knows, you may get a spotlight! Posting them on random threads may get you soggy apricots for spamming.

Oh and AFP, thanks for the detailed guide, I had never heard of the magic crater method before! That helped a lot.

Good timing for this thread to reappear. I'm in the process of typing up a more formalized tutorial of the "Magic Crater method" that should clear things up a little more.

Stay tuned!
