PAX Fan Meet 2010

Archive: 243 posts

Attention PAX attendees! Tom and I (Spaff) are going to be at the show and we?d love to see you.

<img src="http://media.xfire.com/content/promotions/xf_chat_pa/pax_logo.png" align="right">We?ll be spending most of our time over the three days at The LittleBigPlanet area of the Sony booth, where you?ll be able to get your hands on LittleBigPlanet 2, and maybe browse the Sackboy related goods in the merchandise stall.

We?ll also have some of our community all-stars (Jaeyden, Morgana25, Comphermc, and ConfusedCartman) at the event who will be jamming and creating things live,  so you can see what kind of things can be made with the new tools, and get some handy hints and tips from them on building your own levels.

Additionally we?ll be presenting various aspects of the game at the LittleBigPlanet ?Genius Bar?, and we should have some special play challenges and other crazy things going on, so pop on by and say hey!

See you at PAX!

P.S If you come and high five me or tom, we?ll give you a badge to celebrate how awesome you are, until we run out of them of course.

It's in Washington I think.

Eurogamer (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=31352-LBP2-Coming-to-the-EuroGamer-Expo&highlight=eurogamer), next month in London, is the one you should be looking to go to Fender.

Well, I'll be. If I could somehow convince my parents to pay for me to fly across the country the weekend before school starts all by myself while they are in New England just so I could punch CC in the face... I'd go.

... Eh, I probably don't want people to see me. /cough

Still, that's nice. Though it makes me wonder if CC ever met any of them in person... or any of his mods ever. I unno. What does it matter? I do not know. At any rate, sounds fun... and it seems LBPC is going to be well represented

this sounds awesome! but ive got school and no way would my parents let me go to washington to play a game! XD!
Sometimes i feel downsized by all these stuff about all-star creators and stuff... it makes me wish my PS3 never broke so i could bring out the best level I've made to this point.
Anyways i cant wait for the new wave of videos to be released amongst the web!

To the people going, could you get more info on movers (I know what they are and what they do), but I haven't seen much on them. So I would like to see how helpful they are, their limits, etc. And if its not too much to ask could you please try record it. Thanks. 2010-09-01 15:56:00

Best reason to miss class ever.

I'm super excited for this opportunity to meet the molecules and my fellow community folk. To everyone who is looking to get some more details on all of the little things... that is my goal for this weekend. The teacher in me is going to eat up the ability to get on camera and explain how everything works! I have acquired a little flip camera and will get all the footage I can. I hope anyone else who can make it to PAX will stop by and say, "Haaaaaay!"

(Yes, I'm that desperate.)

(Okay, it's desperate to the point it's stupid.)

And I agree- someone has to record this.
Say, will LBP2 be somewhere in Los Angeles? Or near? I'm willing to skip school for this.

coyote, just turn up. Give them the sob story (you're a theatre major after all) and they'll be all "oooooooow! *looks around for the boss... all clear* Okay, in you go!". Bribing door officials is another option.

If you want to finagle a way in, squirlin, meet up with coyote and enact that scene from Rain Man. If you create enough of a scene they may just let you guys in. Or call security, but it'd be worth a shot, right?

If I sneak in it'll be with finesse. . . or explosions I've not decided. Maybe something in the style of that dancing French man from ocean's 12. Don't believe i've seen Rain Man. . . is that the one where Sean Connery cures cancer? Or am I way off base. . . well in any event i'm way off thread topic.

You should take a name badge that says Leon, and put it next to the logo

lol, that'd be rather funny, and not a bad idea actually...

I honestly Dont Know why They hold so many events in America ,And there is not enough Events in the UK

There Should be in The UK JUST A LBP EVENT! its made in the UK SO IT SHOULD BE IN THE UK !!!!!

So i actually Live no where near london ....So i have no chance of going to Eurogamer

IM SO AGRESSIVE!! URGH.....

CLICK HERE (http://www.xconomy.com/boston/2008/09/11/game-on-the-greater-seattle-gaming-cluster/) this will explain why they have PAX here in Seattle... you have companies based here like Nintendo America, Microsoft, Bungie, Sony Online Entertainment, Zipper Interactive, PopCap games, Monolith Productions, Sucker Punch, and Valve just to name some, and that article is 2 years old this is a game developers paradise

:O BLAST! I've not gotten hold of a ticket. Hadn't realized Pax would be a chance to meet peeps from lbpc! I work barely a stone's throw away from the convention center and often go there for lunch. I'll be having lunch tomorrow at a place called Rock Bottom if anybody wants to meet up and talk about the joys of lbp. . . it'd not be within Pax of course. . . *sighs So yeah i'll grab a table for one. lolz Perhaps i'll still finagle a way in.

you know, i didn't have a ticket last year but easily got a 3 day pass from someone outside so don't give up so easy it is TOTALLY worth it to at least go one day, i was smart this year and bought my 3 day pass back in March, since i learned my lesson last year

doors open up in less than 12 hours i better start getting ready

Well, just about 4 hours until the doors open - so I'm relatively excited. Look forward to seeing a few of you there - although I guess I don't know what day/time various people will be at the MM booth, but I do expect there's a good chance I'll run into at least 1 person from LBPC on the first day.2010-09-03 13:57:00

Dibs, top bunk!

Haha, suckers!!

Who's on the 25th floor again? Oh ya, that's right ME! I call it karma - you may call it luck.

Day two of the show was really exciting guys! After a fairly frustrating morning trying to learn all sorts of new stuff comph was able to hold my hand through some stuff and it's making a lot more sense. The stuff CC, Jaey and comph are working on will blow minds... blow minds I tell ya!

I think Sony has some vids posted or will be posting them shorty. Hang in there guys - they're keeping us really busy so it's hard to get stuff uploaded.

Also - if you've never tried Brazilian BBQ.... you should Deep fried bananas = WIN!

I'm going to the euro version of this. I'm thinking I might make a rope bridge that collapses. How awesome will that be. no-one has done that ever before. I will stand out from everyone. people will be like "oh gosh wow look an amazing bridge, let me walk over it....oh no it has borken... wait no the creator WANTED it to bork - that is amazingly cool and original and could only be done with the new music making tool in LBP". and I will say "yes, haha, the bridge has indeed borken, and the sequel will be even better. can I have a creator heart please".

I may also create badges with the names of famous creators so I can pretend to be them. I will pose next to TV screens wearing my wexfordian badge... then chat to fans wearing my julesyjules badge... and then disappoint hundreds of teenage boys wearing my fenderjt badge.
good times.

awesome, keep them coming. get some off the show floor too, get some vids at the pubs and after parties and such! will someone go to Morgana's hotel room and get some video of the view from her whatever-floor-it-was hotel room at the Sheraton? Man, those guys are taking care of peeps. Or at least Morgana anyway.

it's just awesome seeing everyone. compher's like morgana's little logic gremlin. What was he explaining in that video? judging from the controlinator board it looked like you were reversing the left-right control on the left stick... but I couldn't see what the controlinator was attached to!

I'm sorry, no offence, but those aren't the sort of videos I really want to see.

I was expecting you to take this rare and exclusive opportunity to show us some amazing stuff in create mode. I don't see anything in any of those that we haven't seen in umpteem game show videos already.

I'm sure you're loving the special treatment. I'm sure you're loving the top hotels and all expenses paid priveleges. I'm sure you're loving all the attention from the crowd when you're in the exclusive 'creators corner'. Well that's great for you and yes I'm jealous, but that's not what I want to see or hear about. A one minute video of a level YOU have created is great fun for you and your ego but isn't interesting for me in the slightest. I want to see the new tools so I have some idea of what I can do.

What I really want to see is footage in create mode. Doesn't need to be videos either. Some still pictures of the popit options would be better actually so I can study them properly. Why can't you show us all the new tools close up and all the options in the popit for each tool close up so we can see all the different settings. That would be vastly more useful and interesting. All we've seen of those sort of options so far from every show/video and every magazine article are just fleeting glimpses of the popit. Can you please show us the sort of things that we, as creators, want to know about more than anything. Relaying info second hand about popit tools and options doesn't help at all. I need to see them for myself.

Thanks.

Well.. hopefully Sony or Mm will come up with something more of that nature as I agree it would be cool to see something more in depth. b-coli was simply shooting what he saw, no different that had you walked up and was watching what they were doing and recorded it with your cell phone.

I didn't 'misinterpret' as you put it. When someone posts something you quite rightly believe it's from them unless they specifically say otherwise. I think we're all used to you being sarcastic and wrongly accusing me of things I haven't done too.

While I would also like to see some more video of the tools - let's give them a moment. They were brought there (paid for by MM) to create - not record videos for us all.

I'm sure at the very least we'll get a fun report posted in the forums upon their return - and then, we can ask all our questions.

Let's give them a break - plenty of time to grill them when they get back.

They could, but they shouldn't HAVE to. They've gone to PAX to play and look at some games, and meet Mm and LBPC people and mess about with LBP2 themselves. If they want to take some time taking screenshots or videos of things you spefically want to see, then great, but you can't expect them to do it. If I was there I'd be wanting to have a good time, not running through a checklist of things to take pictures of that you want to see.

I think b-coli's videos so far are pretty good. Better than nothing, right? Be happy that he's at least taken the time to give us these rather than demanding more.

Not trying to step into this debate, -I'm pretty sure that crossed fire is kind of bad for your health- but I believe that If you want shoots of the pop-it the way to get them would be directly asking b-coli to do so. And what I belive Adi was suggesting is to exclude the whole part concerning the "egos" of the community members at the PAX if you are going to ask them whatever.
Kindness gets you everywhere, it really does!

ok to clear up some stuff...

yes, i am shooting the viedos... on my phone... so sorry about the shakeyness...

as with last years PAX coverage i did that was linked in the Sack It To Me... we are not allowed to show some aspects of the game... there are rules to filming and since i want to stay on Sony's good side, i stick to those rules not that they are tyrants or anything, but they want "some" stuff to remain a surprise for later... last year i agreed to limit my vids of GOTY edition to under 30 seconds after chatting with Mark, so too much wasn't revealed... this year is a little different but there are still rules to follow. as for other people not posting vids, they are all busy in create mode, so they really don't have time to record... i posted a TON of vids last night but its from all over the show, not just LBP (even though that is where i have been spending most of my time)

i understand the frustration with seeing the same footage over and over... sorry. but they only have a few levels people can play, most of which all of you have already seen and no one but staff can touch create mode. will see if its ok if i get more footage of popit in create mode today i will see what i can do

i am hoping to see the finished racer level today, i figured it would be nice to see a level from the beginning to the end , maybe i can get him to go through it in create mode too today..
anyway, gotta finish getting ready for the last day!

Although I get what your trying to say. You came across very rude in that post and I think that's why you had some sarcastic and unhappy posts directed to you from a few people.

As said before, they're not there to serve us. They're enjoying themselves and doing stuff for MM.

When these members that are there atm do something for this forum, it is usually very in depth and informative. I'm sure we can trust them to get vids and info for us and make a good write up of it when they get back.
The meet isn't even over yet and you seemed to be jumping down their throats. Give them time and you'll get the info you want hopefully.

AND to answer your questions that you need answered so urgently.....

I hope anyone else who can make it to PAX will stop by and say, "Haaaaaay!"

lol - well I just bought a new iphone and will endeavor to figure out how to shoot video with the darned thing. CC can help I think.... I'll do my best guys! Thanks for the well wishing. Now I'm off to pack only 7 hours till I have to be at the airport! AAAAAAgghh!

So yes they do have cameras (and CC will obviously have one too) and are planing on getting us some more info. Just give them time........

(and just a little word of advice, if your gonna make a stand like you did, make sure you read the whole thread first...Thanks)

I actually really like the videoes B have shot - we will see more of the popit later on, I'm sure, so just relax and sit back. There's only 2 months till it's out

I think we should all be really greatful, that someone is nice enough to actually do this, so we can see more of PAX instead of demanding something else we haven't seen - with that said, have fun guys!!

Nice job with the vids, b-coli. I doubt I'll ever be able to get to a big game convention living out here in the middle of corn country, so a little peek inside is kind of nice. I understand MM's desire to keep stuff under wraps. Besides, I'd rather wait until I have the game in hand myself before I see everything in a video clip. It's also great to finally get to see a face or two to go with the names. So thanks. You've done a great job.2010-09-05 18:16:00

After it seemed Morgana, Comph, and crew left the "floor station" area today I snuck onto one of them (the set-ups on the floor that they built on)- but they were already taken off of the profile that had everything unlocked. =/

Lol, oh well, was worth a try.

you were probably standing next to me at some point there...(had my MAG shirt from last years PAX on with a ****** off sackboy figure hanging round my neck)... haha yeah they pulled the discs out right after they loaded up their levels. and then opened them all up for playing. the "crew" will have plenty of stories to tell once they get a chance i felt bad for them cause they were stuck in one place all day and i could wander around and check everything out... but then again, they DID get to use create mode.... thats what i wanted to play with

Thanks for those videos b-coli.

The last 2 are my favourites. I'm loving the animated materials anyway. The zombie sackbot one is really cool. It looks like that's on one layer and yet the player can run 'through' the sackbots. I didn't know that was possible. That's very interesting.

Most things can be tweaked in this way, if you didn't already know. So you can happily select 5 pistons and modify the lengths on all of them together.

The animated materials are really cool. There's a water one and one with bubbles. One with a sort is star/snow effect, slime, chocolate, and dark matter has a subtle movement too. Dmm is darker than it used to be to.

The coolest thing is you can tweak the animation! Make it change directions or the speed it moves. A lot of materials can be tweaked. There's even a sensor you can use to change the physical properties of materials. Like make them grabable or bouncy.

I'll post more when I get home tonight.

Jaeyden, holy crap dude!!! The caterpillar! The creatures! Unbelievable! The animation, the way they're moving, freaking stellar.

Did you use bolts for much of that? Spill your secrets!

Also, looks like you guys have mastered getting your top-down creations up and down layers using the forward/back mover. how did you work that?

b-coli, thanks for posting your experience on your blog there, very cool to read and follow.

it was really cool. just wait til you can see the whole vids sony did otherwise, i woulda got full footage of each persons level

and to everyone that has thanks me, you are welcome, i do this each year at PAX.. last year was my first time and was fortunate enough to meet Mark who linked everything on to the official PS sight. this year , they were covering it themselves so expect more videos to come out soon from other places

LOL exactly what I was thinking

It looks like some kind of arm that has bolts at it's joints. I'm guessing that the end of it is somehow set to follow the different squares in a sequence (or using a randomizer??) and the rest just follows like a rag doll type effect

Not sure. He and the rest of us didn't have a ton of time to test stuff. We had stuff that Sony wanted done. We did manage to do a couple of experiments.

I imported my old lbp1 levels into lbp2 and as of now it supports....

+ 50 layer glitch stuff made in lbp1 are just fine. Same goes for objects emitted into the back or front glitch layers. I didn't get a chance to try and emit a fresh object into the glitch layers so I can't confirm that yet.

+ Theck and Thack appear to be fine too. Anything made with them in lbp1 was holding up just fine. There may be an issue with making new theck and thack - I'll let comph explain that situation.

+ Merged items - I had two merged items in levels and one was just fine and one had a strange graphic thing going on. I had a cloud merged with stone material and that held up just fine, but I also had a gassed light merged with an egg and that produced a small black and sort of staticy looking thing on it... not sure exactly what was going on there. More testing will be needed.

+ Thin gas also appears to be just fine but it may be a bit obsolete given the new stuff in LBP2.

The way the new lighting system is set up levels from lbp1 that are loaded with bright lights look really too bright now. The graphics seem to have higher contrast and more naturally occurring light on them without using lights so when you add light it gets really bright really fast. Most of my stuff will have to get toned down if I want it to look right in lbp1.

I'm really tired - just got home from the airport and I'm not quite thinking clearly yet so I'll have to post more as I remember it.

Hmmm, I was a bit worried about this. Almost all of my levels are dark and are lit (love lights!).

I new the lighting was getting an overhaul and was a bit worried.

So, here is my big question:

If I go into LBP2 and adjust my lighting (tone it down) - will everyone playing LBP1 see an ugly lit level? Or, will only LBP2 players see the changes?

It seems like you are saying they are "imported" and thus, seperate.

Great info Morgana - thanks for the info.

Get some sleep.

EDIT: After some sleep - can you answer - any issues with changed materials in LBP1 levels - i.e. grabbable glass, etc. Thanks.

From my understanding the LBP1 stuff won't be affected by the lbp2 stuff. If you adjust it in lbp2 and publish it I think it will leave your lbp1 level as it was.2010-09-07 02:36:00

There's not a tool for that.... at least not that I saw.

Cow glitched/changed materials.... I didn't get a chance to look at those. I do have one of them in my Greece level and it loaded just fine. I didn't get to the part where I'd grab the stone so I can't confirm it works yet.

There is a switch that you can use to alter the properties of materials so even if the glitched stuff won't work (which I don't think will happen) You'd be able to replace it with new material with it's properties changed to fit whatever it is you had.

ha i've been watching all these vids... looks like it was a blast, but being on the spot was probably stressful; as long as you realized that your talent and experience means a thrown together level > more than what most onlookers could do with a year of build time. anybody passing through probably just went whoa; how cool it must feel to be shown as the archetypal creator and the idea of 'what's possible for that mode after story that all you gamers got scared off of', and how fun it can be.'

kinda makes me wish we could play on couches like good old co-op shooters sometime.

Ya, it was a little stressful. Fun but stressful. Imagine if you will..... You have a totally upgraded and different tool set at your disposal, no time to soak in the tutorials, thousands of people watching you work over your shoulder and you need to produce something that shows off all the new and cool stuff you can do. Everybody with me so far? Ok, now toss into that mix jet lag, no sleep and tiny stools not made for ladies over 5ft 6in and you get the idea of the stress Still an amazing experience though 2010-09-07 05:49:00

As I'm sure you know, we're all back from PAX now, and it would be a disservice to ignore what we learned and to not share it with you all. First, though, I will address the lack of videos coming directly from the four of us (Michael, Sean, Caryn, and I). When I was invited, I made it my goal to get as much footage as I could all of the little details and nuances of create mode; however, we were given strict instruction from Sony to not do that. There was nothing preventing anyone else from capturing the work we were doing - it was open to anyone at PAX afterall - we just couldn't get on and explain all the little details.

The reason for this is not because we are intending to hide features, but because Sony would like to release these informational videos on their own terms - in a fashion that reaches a greater market than just our series of fansites. There are videos coming, but they will be coming from Sony. That said, we were involved with the capture of some of these videos. I got on camera and narrated the creation of a series of logic that rhythmically moves a piece of material in and out. This footage is in Sony's hands.

I do have some footage of the event, but mostly of the show floor and the creators/Molecules involved. I hope to get those uploaded to youtube soon. (<---- Hey, it's our favorite word!)

Okay, what we learned (in no particular order):

Both white matter and dark matter are an animated texture now. They both serve the same purpose as Dark Matter in LBP1, but white matter has crisper edges.
Theck and Thack can still exist by importing the material over from LBP1. When we tried to place a piece of saved material into a new level, it didn't seem to work, but if we placed it into an LBP1 imported level, it was fine. I don't know the full extent, but it CAN still work.
There are now lightboxes. These are lights which are placed like decorations, and are invisible in play mode.
Hologram material can still be tweaked to be invisible, which is helpful, but it appeared to still be visible in create mode (for ease of use).
Sackbots cannot use grappling hooks. Bummer.
Water does not require Pirates DLC.
By using competitive mode only, you can activate multiple checkpoints at once. This allows respawns to occur in random locations.
Competitive mode can end when either a time or score limit is reached, which will teleport you to the scoreboard. The scoreboard will then display a graph of player scores over time, so you guys can see how close the competition was.
Popit colors are the same as before... there are more options for lights, but these options don't appear the have expanded to popit color.

That's all I could think of off the top of my head that hasn't already been said in other threads. If you have other questions, we MIGHT be able to answer them. Also, the story levels are wicked awesome. I played through quite a few of them. The gameplay is very inventive.

But why not use a randomizer?

Sounds very useful! Ty

But why not use a randomizer?

Firstly, because it would look bad/distracting. Secondly, the way they have it now, two players can spawn simultaneously through different checkpoints.

Can the checkpoint activation sound be shut off?

And, 2x-4x simultaneous spawn through diff checkpoints? Hmmm... tasty!

Thanks for the info! Does this also apply to the other glitched materials as well such as the 50+ layer glitches? Hmmm, hopefully it's flexible somehow. And what's the differences between an imported LBP1 level versus an LBP2 stage in regards to creation?

And I'm gonna have to apologize for your inability to publish your vids about the game mechanics and talk about them. They clamped down after my E3 vids went up. There was a misunderstanding on both our ends and it didn't necessarily fit their view of how they wanted to release information. In this sense, being helpful to the community only made it more restrictive in the end. Sorry guys!

Sounds awesome!

There's a few things I'd still love to know out about competitive mode. Particularly...

- Can we specify which player spawns from which checkpoint at the start of the level?

- If we want to give each player their own holographic HUD in competitive mode, is there any way to make the hud invisible to other players? Otherwise the HUDs will be visible to everyone at once... could get messy.

- What happens when you attempt to load a Competitive level during offline multiplayer? Seeing as LBP2 doesn't have splitscreen, I'm guessing it'll refuse entry?

Sorry if this stuff has already been asked

Also, it would be great if there's a way to distinguish between players 1, 2, 3, and 4 with sensor switches. Or some other method. Hmmm...

Thanks for the info! Does this also apply to the other glitched materials as well such as the 50+ layer glitches? Hmmm, hopefully it's flexible somehow. And what's the differences between an imported LBP1 level versus an LBP2 stage in regards to creation?

50 layer seemed fine in imported levels. We didn't do any tweaking with moving layers or emitting stuff into background. The only chance we got to import old levels was before the doors opened to the public. I've no idea if we were doing something wrong, or if there actually is a difference in the levels. Who knows.

Sorry guys!

Ah, okay then. No worries. It'll get out eventually.

Not sure. I don't think so. Maybe online, you can toggle a different one ON as soon as someone enters.

HUDs with any view outside of using a DCS. But using logic, you should be able to use the new [require 2, require 3, require 4] settings on sensors to ensure there aren't too many lit up at one time. It's probably not going to work exactly the way I think you have in mind.

- What happens when you attempt to load a Competitive level during offline multiplayer? Seeing as LBP2 doesn't have splitscreen, I'm guessing it'll refuse entry?

They will just share a camera. Otherwise, it's the same.

You can do number, but not specify "This is Player 1."

Hmmm, so imported levels are okay. Did you happen to attempt to throw in other saved glitch materials into LBP2 levels aside from the theck/thack (i.e. layer glitch, etc.) with any luck?

are sony only restricting video's off the new tools and materials but could you still upload your levels in play mode so people can only guess how you did it?? also comp how do you make the car switch layers to go over the bridges?

Someone on our blog asked whether they would be able to use grapplings hook if they are controlled by a player. Do you know the answer to that?

I have video of my level in play mode, yes, but they filmed that as well. I will post it if they fail to do so. Making the car change layers uses the new "In and Out" mover, which is attached to the car. When the car runs into a specific piece of hologram material with the correct key color on it, it is forced up to the desired layer. All the logic is contained in the car. You can catch glimpses of all of that in this video:

Did they give a reason for why this is?

No, but I can. The AI for sackbots is fairly limited... they can just jump and follow waypoints. The grappling hook is a HUGE jump in complexity of motion, one that would require much more complex AI, especially with the multitude of different ways in which they can be used.

Negative. This is why it's a bummer. As a community, though, we always find ways around our limitations. That's just one thing that we can't do out of the MANY, MANY things we can do.

Ah, I almost forgot. You can electrify hologram material to create invisible hazards or you can make it thin and use it like thin gas (to prevent players from planeshifting to undesireable layers). Awesome.2010-09-07 19:38:00

Shame. But yeah, I suppose the other new features of LBP2 ALMOST make up for this.....

Thanks for all the info.

That actually doesn't make sense to me. If we're controlling the Sackbot with the Controllinator, it doesn't need to use AI at all. So what stops it from grappling just like a Sackboy would?

I would guess that a controlled sackbot using the grapple is something that will happen in the future but for now it is not possible. That thing on the side is a little appoint activation experiment using movers. There are no bolts on that device.2010-09-07 20:30:00

Because you're failing to recognize that sackbots controlled by no-one and sackbots controlled by a Controlinator are the same thing. Else one could jump into a sackbot, pick up the grappling hook, and then jump out of the sackbot.

I should also mention that you can't stick a Controlinator directly to a sackbot. There are little workarounds, however. They may change this before launch.

As Jaeyden says just below here, it was an experiment with movers.

Nah, there are bolts on there, just not the wobble/motor variety. For anyone else curious, I was using Followers to force a simple bolted arm to move into predetermined positions. I had off screen logic controlling how the keys light up and turn off. This was the result of making it go as fast as possible, which didn't work out the greatest.

In retrospect, I wish I'd have gone with gyroscopes. It would have been much more stable.

Yeah i bet you do *nudge* i like how invisible holograph material is no longer fully invisible in create mode, that really was a pain before :hero: *wink*

Ahem.

Was there any update on the possible ability to make wires visible in play mode mr compher?

Man! Is there some sort of object that can grab material? Or, can sticky stuff get stuck to sackboy?

(in theory, with sticky stuff, I should be able to make a grappling hook that picks up materials, correct?)

I was hopping on boxing a grappling hook sackbot in a UFO, and using it as just a grappling hook. XD

Rich, I know you directed this at comphy but yes the option to make switch/wiring visible in play was available on the logic.

Between that and the wires lighting up, and also being able to create microchips that have user-defined, nameable input / output ports along with extra null nodes that you can use for routing your wiring... yes I think they really will be

Pretty sure you can choose to have microchips open in play mode as well.

Everything sounds great, other than theck not placing right. I use theck in everything!

So, importing a lbp1 lvl with theck in it works fine? Can you copy/paste an existing block of theck, or can you only modify a block that's already there?

Also, an imported lbp1 level can be changed to a full-on lbp2 level, right?

EDIT: What the heck is going on to the left of the last video?!?

LOL exactly what I was thinking

It looks like some kind of arm that has bolts at it's joints. I'm guessing that the end of it is somehow set to follow the different squares in a sequence (or using a randomizer??) and the rest just follows like a rag doll type effect

So I was kinda right in my assumptions then???

We were able to copy an existing piece of thack in an imported LBP1 level and it seemed fine. I don't think we copied a piece of theck... we were sort of in a rush. We were also able to place captured pieces of theck and thack from my collected objects into an imported LBP1 level. Didn't do it in a native LBP2 blank level but I can't imagine it would be an issue if it's holding up in a converted LBP1 level.

Also, an imported lbp1 level can be changed to a full-on lbp2 level, right?

All the stuff in an imported LBP1 level updates to the new LBP2 stuff - except I did notice that the logic was sort of a blend of old and new. The mag switches still looked like lbp1 switches but had the wires set up like an LBP2 switch. I'll have to look at my video closer to note any other changes.

I'm guessing if you copy down a LBP1 level or import one onto your moon from a backup file and publish it in LBP2 it will register as an LBP2 level.

Well they look different.

The lighting is much brighter using the LBP2 lighting system so anything that was brightly lit is extremely bright now. I've got screen shots of my levels from lbp1 in 2 - I think I can post those without it being an issue. I'll get them up as soon as I can figure out how to get them off my phone. lol.

For the most part everything else looks pretty close to how it was originally in terms of textures and stickers.

They will just share a camera. Otherwise, it's the same.

meh, that's a bit naff actually.

I've got an idea which I think will only work when players have individual cameras.
Giving players individual cameras is a superb feature - but we can't design levels specifically around it, because it'll break if people try to play locally.

I guess I'll have to put "ONLINE ONLY" in the level name and hope people notice.

(btw... Is there a consensus on the idea of level entry permissions? I've heard that that discussion is ancient and tired, but I couldn't find a thread on it, so yah...)

Thanks again for all the info in the thread!

Tig-W, I'm with u 110% on that. The 1st build on my last level got screwed, because I wanted it to be single player only. I put a multiplayer 'trap' in the level which prevented parties from playing. The plan backfired & 70% of my ratings came from people who never even played the level. They quit & were still able to rate. (2nd build, without trap did much better..)2010-09-08 22:12:00

Yeah. I don't see this talked about much anywhere, but to me it seems like a really big issue.

With all the different gametypes we're going to see in LBP2, surely creators should have control over how people enter their levels - whether in groups, alone, online or offline?

It just seems like a necessary feature.

Anyways... PAX!!
