Run Like Your Sacking Depends On It!!!

Well, as some of us know I'm making a zombie-like level. It was started as a way to get familiar with LBP2's tools so I could work on my OTHER project, but now its a full fledged project. Which means I get to make a miniproject for it to get familiar with the tools.

This level is HEAVILY inspired by The Bridge in Left 4 Dead 2, an amazing level in an amazing game. In the level, you will start out on one side of a bridge populated with zombies. Your friend says that you gotta get to the other side so you and him can escape the city, and thus the zombies. Only one problem, the military is bombing the bridge.

So the whole point of the level is to RUN. Through rubble, cars, and bombs. As time goes on, parts of the bridge will collapse. At the end of the level, the camera zooms out far and the text 'RUN!' appears, as the bridge starts to rapidly fall. When your friend's car is in sight it starts to move and you have to jump on it and escape. A scene of the bridge blowing up is then shown.

The cars, obstacles, zombies, etc. will all be randomly placed with the randomiser, so no two playthroughs are exactly alike. You also won't be able to fight the zombies. The only way for them to die is if they are hit by a military bomb or the section of the bridge they are on collapses. So um yeah. Expect great things from this!

Yup, sorry for the bump and double post, but I have an update on this and I can't really start a new thread for it.

Well you can consider the other zombie project idea scrapped. The combat in it would just be to hard to pull off, and I tried to avoid using guns as weapons but honestly I didnt have THAT much choices. So this fills in as a main project.

Instead of being JUST on the bridge, theres also a city before. The bridge part mentioned above will still be the same. But the city will have multiple paths, some may be blocked on a playthrough and some others not. At some points you will also be able to enter the sewers, while dark and dangerous yields great rewards.

Also there will be a minor form of combat, taken from the scrapped zombie project. There will be some cars you can drive for a little bit, bombs you can detonate, and maybe the ocassional low ammo paintinator. But you will still have to mostly run.

In many ways the city will be way more interesting than the bridge. The bombing is still going on, but parts of the city won't collapse to the center of the earth. Plus the city's look will differ slightly ever playthrough. That green building you always seem to past may be in perfect shape on your first playthrough, but on the second it will be half destroyed.

So in a way this project is HEAVILY inspired by Left 4 Dead 2, with the bridge, randomization, and zombies. Lots of great things to expect eh?

Well, I plan on making a simple zombie level myself when I get LBP2, although more along it'll be a zombie survival in a farmhouse like Night of the Living Dead. If you haven't watched that movie, I'd reccomend it. You might get some ideas from it, and you can watch the whole thing on youtube since it's public domain. Although I'd imagine you have watched it before.

Anyway, as for suggestions, make sure to have variety with the zombies. Not just in their appearence, but their function. You could have a burning zombie that moves faster than the rest, for example. That being said, they should probably also have a few things that make it obvious all the zombies are zombies. Glowing eyes, blood, pale skin, rotten teeth, and things like that. And for the gameplay itself, you could have a stealth section with a military helicopter and searchlight, where if they spot you, they think you're a zombie and try to shoot you. Maybe have a few scripted events with the miltary shooting the zombies earlier in the level so the player knows what to expect.

Mmmmh i guess this is possible. If you would create a sackbot which is Hostile, and make it follow you. Maybe you could add a cloud of poison around him so when you get to close, you die. Love the idea! 2010-10-13 23:08:00

Oh, okay.
Maybe when you, say, knock over a cooker or microwave it goes "Bing" and then proceeds to asploooode!
Or maybe if you knock something that's on fire onto something that would be flammable in reality it goes up in flames....and asplodes?

I like the stealth idea, where some parts you have to be stealthy. Might not implent the military confusing you for being a zombie, seeing as how they are already bombing the place . Plus, I was going to have a variety of zombies, and the burning one sounds really cool! Thanks

You like asploding dontcha? But yeah, thats sorta how my other zombie project was like. Still debating whether I'll implent a minor form of combat like the old project's or not.

Remember, don't get too attached with your levels because they will not transfer to the LBP2 you get at the store. They will go up to a unicorn farm... Yeeeeah 2010-10-14 19:47:00

The tech demo Im making for this wont be to fancy, just some easy recreatable stuff. Might not even include the bridge. Its just to see if it works how I want it to and show it off to other people.
