airbound warfare [RTS]

this was just a neat picture I decided to make and add
hey folks, just was hit with an idea that strikes me as preeetttyyy cool, I was thinking to make a RTS that is very air focused so, thats blimps, fighter jets, airships, planes, mythical airship/plane thingys... im sure you get the point
so what I was thinking is that you could build buildings on lands by using transport ships to carry builders (one of the few ground units) to make bases, buildings, or anything else you with
keep in mind it will all be top down.

Some unit ideas:
Air Units
- Blimps:
carrier blimps: can carry land units and has very week guns with medium speed
assault blimps: can withstand alot of enemy hits before falling from the skys, has high fire power and low speed
(more to come)
-planes: (when planes are not moving they circle around in the air, or, if told land)
Biplanes, have high speed (with most planes) but have week bullets that are spread in something of a flak
Spitfires: have high speed strong bullets and are a good all-purpose fighter
Fighter jets: can fly extremely fast and have a fast fire rate all though expensive to build
Bomber: Slow flying but are one of the best anti-building unit in the game, they can be set to target a building but can not fight air-air

Helicopters:
Helicopters are special units that require a helipad to be built, helicopters are generally med-high speed and have rather heavy guns but are expensive to build.
assault helicopter: is a medium sized helicopter with tons of guns attached.... not much more to say?
more needed ideas please.

Land Vehicles:
all though this is a very air-based RTS there is also vehicles to give you an edge in battle (I know I sure wouldnt like it if i had 10 spitfires closing in on my base with about 10 tanks coming aswell... )

Infantry carrier: info later

Buildings
- general
(I need a main building that you have to set up to store resources)
Airbase: This will be your primary unit production building, something of a barracks.

AA-turrets: these are your guard towers that will shoot at any incoming airship from the opposition team.

Hangers (ty SR20DETDOG) Increase your population (amount of aircraft max) by 1-5 (upgraded to get to 5)

Upgrade building (needs name) enables updates to your current amount of buildings/units you can build

Mechanics workshop: can create builders and people to repear damaged machinery.

Airstrip: enables landing of plane aircraft, and were you can pick up builders with planes (also a vital enemy point to capture, you always have 1 airstrip when you start) or your builders can walk to the destination (takes alot longer, and are more attack prone)

Helipad: can be placed anywhere and enables purchase of a helicopter from an airbase, when producing a helicopter it will come out at the closest helipad to the Airbase

Well here's a few ideas for buildings off the top of my head.

Hangers - Building hangers increases the population cap.
Air Traffic Control - These towers could be like watch towers, increasing your line of sight.
Radars - Radars will detect enemy units in their radius.
Arrival/Departure - These are needed for builders to board and disembark flights, otherwise they have to walk.
Re-fueling Hangers - Can be used to fix units and re-fuel them.
Emergency station - These would send out units to repair damaged buildings.

Why has a game like this not been made yet! The more I think about it the better it sounds.

No problem, and I thought of a title you might like. It's pretty simple but how about using the old saying "Fight or Flight"? Seems pretty fitting.

Had another brainwave- howbout a UAV to scout ahead? Like-http://www.hooked-on-rc-airplanes.com/images/uav-predator6.jpg

Also maybe have a missile silo? or a special weapon, if you have differnet factions. Like one side has a GIANT LAZOR and the other NUKE!

maybe you could switch modes, like from an RTS perspective, to a 3rd person view, and you control the general, whos in his own custom biplane. just a thought2010-11-03 19:15:00
