The Sceptre of EgyptStruanmcd
A level for the score-chasers, score combos, a race anfd even a survival challenge, plus various challenges to stretch the mind and gaming skills.
Hi,

It's been a while since I made my first platformer, and left it at that when I ended up with a two star level. I haven't really continued platformers, just play around with logic and make tutorials, that has now changed...

Welcome to my second platformer, the Sceptre of Egypt. Join Richard Croft (Lara Croft's father) on a journey which will take him into the world of an ancient pyramid, filled to the teeth with traps and puzzles, in fact to the pont when the thermo was just about full...

The level has something for everyone, a survival challenge (I'm not going to post details, it will be a surprise), a race for those who excel in those, and for those who don't like the races, you have the option of skipping it. There is also several puzzles and a scenery which I'm proud of.

Don't delay, hop on your PSP and try to grab a high-score, I'm sure there'll be competition for it...
A good score is about 20,000+

Sounds great struan - I'm looking forward to playing it!

Quick question though... This has not actually been mentioned in a Spotlight episode before, has it? Is it a renamed/republished version of an older level of yours (that did receive a "nod") or is this something new? If it has received a prior mention then we'll take it off our list of potentials for the next edition of the Spotlight.

I look foward to your feedback! No problem, and no worries! It's understandable that the system can be a little confusing, especially if you're not used to it. If you want to edit the thread title, click the "Edit Post" button and then the "Go Advanced" button.

Ok... I'll give my impressions as I play through the level. Awesome intro... Wow, the enviroments are nicely done. Can't wait to see where this goes... Simple password puzzle... *Looks at background* Lovely use of the TomBurk (Third) Layer by the way! The guy operating crate is a... Never mind. Awww.... I died on the water race. Fantastic fun though! Nice tilt puzzle, though a bit too easy. Awesome shooting minigame! I released the cage but nothing is happening... *Respawns* More water fun! Water Works all the way! I don't know why but I love the pistol concept... Wait, how did he get here? Secret bubble switch... VelcroJonze would be proud! Greeeeeat the Sceptre killed me! I see the light... And done! Now for the scores...

Design: 8 (Very nice!)
Story: 8 (A bit predictable but does the job!)
Fun Factor: 10 (I had a lot of fun with this!)
Originality: 10 (Best Egyptian based level on the PSP, nuff said)
Total: 9 (Which means five stars and a heart!)

Can't wait for your next level, your an amazing creator!

Thanks for the feedback! It must of been my most enjoyable level to make.
I'm spilt between doing Peru and Greece for the next level, I just need a good plot

I reckon I'll do a really devious plot, to keep it going, maybe a cliffhanger...
Ahhh! Now I see what's up with the crane operator... Hehehe...
I may start adding LBPCentral creator's names on it,

Originally, The prof at the beginning was going to be Proffy Taffey, but I decided to get the level known and add names in the sequel. More pistols coming up!

EDIT: Wow! I just got my second green bar!

Hi, Struanmcd! You created very cool level! Nice environments with many details, good characters, interesting story , smart obstacles and very good gameplay. I love it! Maybe some players will have problems with stickers puzzle (not all of them collect all needed stickers) but anyway - it was very cool adventure! I love it! I gave you 5 stars and heart for it and heart for you as creator! And I will wait for some new level from you!2010-09-02 13:50:00

Hey Straun
I very nicely detailed level, with an interesting story. You kept my interest from begining to end, and that's usually a good sign, lol. The only part that didn't work for me was the part where you get trapped in the cage. I shot all the ropes, and it fell to the ground. I couldn't get out, even after shooting the target as you suggested. I just popped myself, and then had a struggle jumping over the cage. I managed to make it, but that part didn't work as intended, unless I did something wrong. Other than that, it was really cool.

You should do the Mayans or the Ancient Greeks.

For something a bit different, maybe the Romans or Celts(druids, forests etc.)?

Hello, I just downloaded and played your level (thanks for being the first to respond to mine) and here's some feedback.

First of all, I loved the visuals; they weren't overdone and yet were very effective. The pyramids looked great, and the choice of materials was great. I loved the intro picture; the 3d effect of the path leading to the front of the pyramids was simple but worked very nicely. The characters were not overly detailed and also fit great with the platforming nature of the level.

The gameplay was solid. I'll have to admit that I expected a few more puzzle-based rooms based on the nature of the level, but that's just personal preference. I'm not a huge fan of bubble combo's and stuff, maybe because I don't like being competitive, but for those who do like them it seemed very good. When it came to lighting the torches, the first puzzle with the rotating platforms to be honest was a little too easy. When it came to the water part, I didn't see the water coming and got blind sided while trying to snag a few extra bubbles, but that was really my fault. My favorite aspect was the pistol/stick switch parts, which gave a unique feel to the level.

Overall, I got a score of like 28k even though I wasn't really going for point bubbles. I believe I got something like 25k points from the race (why was it optional btw?) which felt kind of lopsided score wise as I barely got any bubbles that weren't on the main path.

Oh and lastly, the ending was pretty cool; it wasn't the first time I saw something like that done, but I did enjoy seeing my character actually wake up as opposed to dying then reappearing on the scoreboard. I gave the level 5 stars and a heart; its quite a good platforming level and definitely worth the download.
