A Tale of Sackboy, a Sultan, and a poor, defenceless Princess (UPDATED)Aspherex
http://i27.tinypic.com/mslsh0.jpgSackboy stumbles upon a Sultan in need of help. But who's on whose side? Features an epic multi-stage boss battle!
This level got a 4 star video review, I've decided not to post it though because since that time I've vastly improved the level. Just today I revisited it and tweaked the difficulty. One of the 3 tag words is "tricky" and that's mainly to do with how hard the final boss was. So I've gone back and reworked it.

I'd appreciate feedback on the updated level, thanks.

Just popped on to check some stuff and saw this really unique title. Opened it up and saw that the look of the level seems unique too. I'd love to play this.
Probably in a day or two. Consider it bookmarked.

OK, here we go!

First off, you're probably going to catch some flack here for starting on the creation level floor. Most folks here prefer the walls and floor to be hidden, and every visible aspect to be custom built. I personally don't care about that nearly so much as the innovativeness, creativity, and plain darn fun of the level itself.

So far, I'm very happy with the visuals. And I love the little bell.

Lots of treacherous traps in here! I especially like the stairs that flip to spikes, even if it does take a bit for them to flip back around to stairs.

Love all the scurrying scarabs!

Very nicely integrated door to the princess's room. I didn't see it at all until the components started to move!

Very good that the collapsing pillars reset themselves if you fail. I was worried. LOL

LOL, "Drink poison and feast on explosives!" Who is this kid?

Some of the speech bubbles are going by too quickly. You should slow down whatever's setting them off.

Okay, I don't want to spoil who the big bad is, but how do you beat him? You say it's easier, but there's no paintinator, nothing to grab that seemingly does any good... I even tried stickers! I'm going to hold off on giving this a rating because I want to finish first. Either I'm missing something, or the level is. If it's something I'm missing and you'd like it to remain a secret for the more adept players, then feel free to pm me the answer and I'll happily finish my review.

Story and a very crafted boss-fight, eh? This sounds like a great level to give a shot.

You say the end-boss is tricky. Is it "infinite lives tricky", or "tricky tricky"?

I added infinite lives to every checkpoint but you do need it for the final boss. I made it easier especially if you have more than one person. Some have still said the boss fight is tricky even after I changed it... I made it easier, perhaps I need to make it easier still

This level was a real treat to play. I loved all of the obstacles you had in this level. They were very unique. I've never seen stairs like that in an lbp level until now. They were a great idea. I also liked the fact of you using knives instead of spikes as your danger factor in that one area. the collapsing pillars were also fun to platform on. It really makes the player panic to get to the next platform, which is a good thing . I also liked your character and beetles in the level although I think you should remake the fake princess. She doesnt look like shes laying down. I also don't think that colorful material doesn't fit in the level since its mostly earth tone colors through out the level. The boss was pretty good. I didnt like when the 2 platforms would descend when i had it line up to kill him but its not a big deal since it takes a small amount of hits to kill him in that stage. Overall a solid level with great platforming segments and a funny story about a crazy king, lol. I gave it 5 stars and a <3. Also I have 1st place

Could you play my level Umbra Valley: A Lost Soul. The link is in my signature.

just played your level and heres what I think of it

pros:
- Great visuals.
- The characters were well made
- the boss fights were challenging and fun
- platforming was awesome!

cons:
- I never understood why the sultan locked away his daughter
- the two boss fights felt the same at times
-during the first boss fight the iron bars got in the way of the sand I was supposed to blow up.
-story mode time bombs....

Overall I thought this was a good level. It got a well deserved :star::star::star::star:'s and a heart!

Well first off, I liked the whole desert type of concept. Tho the 3D layer glitch would have been nice in the sand walking area. But I agree, your story is kinda dim. Maybe bring some more concept in to the story?

Whats with the bug lol? Just curious, umm it actually felt kinda empty to me, the king was kinda hard. The speech bubbles go quick at the prison cell. Maybe add some detail? I loved it, 5 Stars and Heart* Goodjob!

Besides the bugs in the level, that could have been a boss fight j/p. the temple area needded some kind of detail in it like different materials like stone marking or something. The intro could use some atmosphere maybe a sandpile with stones.

The first boss fight was a little annoying, only because it either took forever for the bombs to go off or how many times i had to run back and forth to blow that wall. maybe you should speed it up.
The second boss fight was challenging, but not fustrating. specially on the last life of the king, i wouldn't change that.
The story was ok, the detail was ok at the scoreboard i would have had a bunch of bugs spawn and chase you or something while waiting.

I did give your level 5 stars because it deserves atleast 4, not 3. and a heart just incase you update or i feel like roleplaying with my friends, so i can dress up as the level to make it more enjoyable, the time i test it i was wearing my sig character clothes.

Here you go, some handy feedback!

Good stuff:

- Interesting combination of level mechanics, trap stairs and knives for spikes, very interesting indeed.

- Two bosses? Double the fun.

- Music fit the theme very well

- Good level length, didn't finish too quickly and didn't drag on.

Stuff to think about:

- I think you need to go back and look for big empty sections of level, by that I mean big empty walls. Think about adding some thin layer embellishment, columns, window etc, just extra frilly bits to fill the gap.

- The camera zone at the bottom of the glass stairs makes it harder than it should be.

- At the first set of crushers, it's possible to fall underneath them. Add some gas or spikes.

- You should think about making your own timed bombs, or at the very least decorate the story mode ones to fit the theme, try to avoid using Mm objects, anything you create will be cooler anyways.

- The story was a little unexplained, I didn't really know what was supposed to be going on towards the end

- The first boss' poison bottle attack confused me at first, because it's grabbable I thought you were supposed to do something with it, so i died to it a few times. I didn't even realise it was supposed to be the poison that he just mentioned in the speechbubble. Think about making it non grabbable, maybe even use a decorated bottle object.

- The 2nd boss has many blind spots on his normal wand attack, you might want to make it so his bullet frequency doesn't factor exactly the amount of time it takes for his arm to move, else he'll always shoot the same spots in a smaller pattern.

- The 2nd boss's downwards epic attack was cool, but the second stage where the platforms go up and down was definatly harder than the last stage with the jetpacks. In fact the jetpacks bit was probably the easiest bit of the whole fight!

Not bad. Good work on the visuals, and the obstacles were pretty good. They made me think a bit rather than just jump or swing. The scarab beetles were a nice touch. Good job with character visuals as well.

I didn't have too hard a time with it until the end. I couldn't figure out what to do to defeat the boss. Sorry.

Good luck with your level
I'd love to hear your feedback on my level Flying Saucers From Mars (remake). Thanks.
