Ropes and Pulleys

Archive: 4 posts

Ok I'm suggesting this here, instead of the LBP2 thread, because I think this should have been included in the first game.. Basically I'm thinking pulleys.

you could attach a rope from one object, through the pulley, and then onto another object.

I'm not sure, but I think the best way to explain would be the game "The Incredible Machine"...

If any of you have played that, then you know what I mean.. If you haven't (the games like... what... 15 years old??) you totally should check it out..It's an awesome game, and should give you great Ideas for LBP gadgets... Plus its so old that anyone with even the slightest knowledge of the internets should have no problem finding it.

Anyway basically the pulleys just change the direction of the force exerted on the rope. And with LBPs fancy physics system you could even throw in some "mechanical advantage" and by using pulleys sackboy would be able to lift things he normally could not.

Speaking of physics, I think that physics and characteristics of rope should be completely revamped. Ropes should be grab-able, Swing-able, Climb-able, and cut-able. Maybe if a rope crosses the path of a knife or any other "sharp" object in the same layer, it should be "cut" and immediate separate right there... also ropes should be one length and stay that way... wouldn't it be cool if your rope wasn't always a strait line.. like you know if you had a box being lifted by a piston and you have a rope attached... the maximum length of both is like 15, then the piston goes to 10. I think it would be neat if the rope would sag.

Come to think of it.. The physics behind rope may just be too much for current technology...

We may just have to wait for LBP4... the one that's going to come prepackaged with the PS4... (November 2013)

I do agree, I've always thought that LBP should have actual rope. You cannot wrap rope around a cylinder or anything. But rope (and all connectors) being able to pass through things does have its advantages...2010-08-30 09:30:00

I'll agree with that. Maybe 2 different types of connectors is the answer of the future... Perhaps a "classic" and "realistic" option for connectors?

You can easily recreate a rope/pulley system in LBP, It just wont be moving naturally. But I'd love so much to have a naturally moving rope.
I'd be making 10, 11, 12 pulley combos, and sackboy would be lifting things like huge metal blocks XD
I could show you how to make a realistic looking rope and pulley system, if you want.
