Clock Town First Day - Music Level

Clock Town First Day - Music LevelAeroForce22
Get smacked in the face with nostalgia while listening to this iconic Majora's Mask tune written by Koji Kondo. It's highly recommended that this level is played alone.
Hey there again. This is my second full music level to date and I hope it goes over just as well if not better than my previous one. This time, I ventured out of the unknown Banjo-Kazooie franchise and took on a song that's a bit more recognizable to anyone who's ever played The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. It was certainly one of my favorites from the game and I sure hope all you happy gadders out there enjoy it just as much as I do. It was sitting on my moon for I don't know how many months without visuals and I finally got around to working on them yesterday!

Now I'm sure if you have interest in music levels, you've already seen PLENTY of clock town music levels. However, I took this level to a...well...whole new level (excuse the pun). I added a lot more to the music itself (and hopefully you can recognize that when comparing it to other Clock Town music levels out there), and I also went ahead and added a delicious amount of visuals based of both memory and a single picture (http://resetglitch.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/000.jpg). Now I didn't get all fancy and try and recreate Clock Town exactly, but I did recreate some key elements of the HUB world.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc24/SabakunoGaara22/APhoto_9.jpg
I started out with recreating the Milk Bar featuring the all known chalkboard to the right of the entrance. I already had the Lon Lon Ranch Milk sticker made due to the fact that I'm nearing the completion of a Milk Bar music level.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc24/SabakunoGaara22/APhoto_10.jpg
This here is the festival tower being constructed on day one. However, to make it more obvious that this IS the festival tower, I put the chest on the top (which doesn't actually appear until Day 3).

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc24/SabakunoGaara22/APhoto_11.jpg
Here's the entrance to Fairy Fountain and to the left lies the entrance to the Deku Scrub Playground. This area looks better in-game because the camera doesn't pick up lighting.

Riding around in a Deku Flower has never been so much fun. :3

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc24/SabakunoGaara22/APhoto_13.jpg
*Ahem* Since the cameras in this game are unsatisfactory, you can hardly see the clock tower while playing...so...

Soak it in. You'll receive the clock as a prize as well after finishing the level. ^o^ It uses an incremental bolt to rotate! (Connect the brown wheel to anything to have it rotate. The brown wheel and the clock design are two separate pieces.)

So first off, there's more visual splendor to behold in the level (albeit not much), but the lack of a second go on the song is because of the evil horrible thing we call the thermometer. After starting the visuals for the second loop of the song, the level officially overheated. So I cut off the second run through and decided to give the song away as a prize in loop form! Also, you can play the "Barebone Version" if you want to see all the music in action, and perhaps play through the song backwards. This version is unlocked after completing the main version.

The prizes include: The Majora's Mask Moon, The Clock from the Clock Tower, and the Clock Town First Day Music Loop.

There's a little bonus at the end as well for those of you that like Majora's Mask...this bonus will be a prize in a later level of mine along with many others like it... ;D

So let me know what you think. All improvements suggested will either be added to the level itself or used in my future Milk Bar Level!

Right, so I decided to play through this level, as I love this music!

The Good:
-------------------
+ This is easily the best rendition of this song I have heard. I've listened to a lot of versions, but this easily trumps them. The percussion mixes very well, and everything is on key. I think I'll be playing this a few times, just to listen to it.
+ The visuals were great! Despite your limitations from the thermometer, they were very awesome. I especially liked the end of the level. The lighting, and the event, made it perfect. It made me want to go play majoras Mask. Kinda like, a slap in the face from Nostalgia. The clock was extremely well made as well. It even moved the same speed as the one in-game!

The Bad:
-----------------
- I didn't find much bad, but a MINOR complaint would be that the music is still visible, and it interfered with the visuals. I can understand if you dont want to/cant move the music up, but I found it got in the way of the visuals.

In all, one of the better music levels this side of JollyRajah I also played your other music levels while I was at it, and those were just as great! If anyones reading this, please try out Aero's music levels! You won't be disappointed :3

In all, I give you a:star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 Well done, good sir. Well done indeed.

Love the music! The Legend of Zelda is just a great game...the music is just as awesome! Your level was really well detailed...especially the end of it with the lightning! (:2010-08-30 21:54:00

Very nice. I do agree the music being visible does detract from the visuals but It's still amazing none the less. Very nice choice for the song and you translated it very smoothly into the piano effects. <32010-09-01 01:50:00

I never played Majora's Mask, but I still have to say this level seems intruiging at the very least.2010-09-02 15:24:00

This level was really good. The scenery was pretty good but like what has been stated already it detracts from the level when the the speakers are showing. The music was pretty good and sounded like the actual song which is a plus. I lol'd when I saw the guy on the balloon . The big treat to me was the song at the end. What song is that?! Are you making a level for it because I would like to hear a full version. I stood there for like 5 min just listening to the ending song. I hope you make a level for that song . I gave the level 4 stars.

Could you play my level Umbra Valley: A Lost Soul? The link is in my signature.

This here be a storyline spoiler of MM's storyline. Read at your own risk.
That song at the end is Oath to Order, which is the song you play at the end of the 3 days in Majoras Mask, to summon the giants, who stop the moon from falling on clock town!

*cough* May want to put that into a spoiler, Laharl. xD *cough* And yeah, that's Oath to Order, as requested by Laharl himself. ^o^ Sadly, the song isn't any longer and I made it as complicated as possible. I wish it were longer...

And yeah, thanks everyone who's commented so far. ^o^ I appreciate the feedback. I really do want to move the music out of sight, but I'm afraid I'm a bit unsure as to how I could do that. I could attempt to work something out. (I definitely have something worked out for my NEXT level which I'm hoping will be 10 times better than this. ^o^)

And to Lightmare: Of course I'll play your level. xD I remember Kinetic and that level was amazing. Can't wait to see what you have now.

Anyone else I owe F4F's to? Just PM/VM me and I'd be happy to oblige.

Just played the level. Very nice and simple design to fit with the music. I was able to move the flower and mess up the tempo and such. I really liked the level alot. You could add some play to it by forcing the player to run with the flower and dodge items. You could have the spawn point on the flower, and a piston at zero to keep it from being messed up like I did to it. I wish you had a better camera angle for the clock, it looked really nice, but could not see it. Perhaps have it like a merry-go-round option for fun. Also the anti-matter really took away form your level, I loved the rest of the designs, but that part just looked way out of place with the plain card board boxes. Great level though.2010-09-03 08:27:00

Yeah... loved this. Great music, and nice decoration and theming to go along with it which most music level creators do not bother with. The music ran smoothly with very few glitches. Maybe you could animate some of the scenery? A moving backdrop would be more exciting. Not sure why you have made a barebones version of this... not needed really...

I'll give you :star::star::star::star: and 1/2 which rounds up to 5:star: when I rated the level in LBP. Please F4F on my levels (in my sig).

Yeah. I'll look into ways of hiding the music and will eventually update. I was hoping it wouldn't kill the level for people as much as it did.
Also, the flower is on wheels...not a piston. xD And it's not meant to be moved around. If you want to move it around, be my guest.
And lastly, the clock couldn't be seen because the cameras in this game suck (refer to first post), and I was trying to find a way of giving the player's an opportunity to see the entire thing. Sadly, the clock runs on ALL layers in the game due to vertices issues that I ran into while making it. So I decided I'd give it away as a prize (if you didn't notice. :3)

The only issue with any animated scenery (aside from Tingle, the Moon, and the clock...) is that it simply wouldn't make sense because it's a recreation. Nothing I was able to insert into the level moves in the actual Majora's Mask game. Therefore, I chose not to make moving scenery.

Barebones was only provided as a way to hear the song play through twice (in fact, just that version takes up almost all the thermo. >.<), as well as backwards. I originally wanted the visual music level to have the music hidden, however, I built the music wrong for the purpose. I'm gonna have to work out a way to hide it in the real level and justify the barebones version a bit more.

Lol, I was saying you should put the flower on a piston with zero tightness and set to still, that will allow the flower to move tipped. The cameras do suck bad at times, but you can fight them and get what you want someof the time. Have you tried placing a camera above the clock with a zero player control and connect to a prox sensor, or you can cheat and use a little sppech bubble with a camera angle. Just have the clock activate when the player is close enough and have the bubbles do the time like a real clock. I made a few music levels, and found scroling the music above or below can make it easier to hide, also in music levels, they seem to overheat based on switches in the level and not shapes. I was able to add a good amount of shapes to one level, but if I added any switch at all it would lover heat until I removed any other switch. Either way, just feed back, liked the look.2010-09-03 23:39:00

Good music level. It really sounds like the one from "Zelda Majora's Mask" except in piano way and you added neat visuals that looks exactly like Clock Town and a moon that hits you when you reach the scoreboard. Another musical masterpiece from AeroForce22. 5 stars.

Play and F4F "The Hero Chronicles LV7 Dragon Ruins"
