http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/8799/puzzlezw.jpgTake a tour of Box Industries featuring conveyor belts, automated robotic arms, and intricate painting puzzles! Fun for all the family!
This level is just published, I spent quite a bit of time on it and the moving object and sticker thermometers are full to bursting! I especially like the way my forklift truck turned out and I looove my paint puzzle, please give it a try!

Here are some HD screenshots:

I really like the concept of this level but a lot of things didn't seem to work. At the beginning the conveyor belt kept on squishing me to the point that I had to restart because I ran out of lives. Also at the beginning if and when you die since that switch resets the little trap door the fire box ended up blocking my path to regrab the switch so I had to do a fancy little fire butt bounce jump to get back to the switch. Later on in the level when there are boxes that are suppose to be dropped on top of one another, well for me the first one landed diagonally on the ledge to the right and blocked all the other boxes from dropping. I'm now standing here stuck at the paint puzzle, about to restart because I completed it, got the hurray you did it noise and nothing happens. I have no idea if anything happened or not and the door to the right isn't opening I went back and couldn't find anything, maybe it's me but I can't figure out how to continue. I still do like the idea of the level for it opens up an array of different possible puzzles and platforming that you can make. If you can fix those things I would've given it a 4 but right now as it stands I'm giving it 3 stars.2010-08-29 16:42:00

Hi zynax,

The first part where you get squished by the conveyor - once you pull the lever you're meant to drop down to the left where there is a small platform. Then you can jump on the conveyor without it squishing you. I have not come across the second issue you stated, I can always jump up the boxes (even if I need to push them a little bit).

For the paint puzzle, you need 3 red boxes to reach the top! I thought it was clear but maybe it is not... the first noise will be a "subtask complete" noise, followed by one in a higher pitch, and with the next one you'll get a "task complete" noise and the door will open. This is why it says "X3" next to the red paint splodge. Well it is pinky-red

For the part after that (I know you didn't get there) you are under no obligation to complete the task... but it will get you more points to do so. I hope all is clear

Hi Thor, i have played your level (actually im still playing it because i got stuck).

As i said, i wasnt able to finish it but here is my little feedback:
Its very underrated! It deserves much more than 3 hearts!
But: in the level are many bugs and at some parts its unclear what to do.
For example there is a bug at the very first obstacle where you have to activate a switch, a door opens and you land on a treadmill. I activated the switch and dropped down to the treadmill, died, the door closed and one of the fire boxed landed on it so the way was blocked, had to restart.
Oh, and i got stuck at the part which the thing looking like a cannon or something that can bounce you up. i tried to grab, jump and walk around in the thing, but nothing happened

Overall still a cool level, 4 stars!
Thanks for making it and sorry for my bad english im not that good at writing or speaking english :s

Ok, well I did get 3 boxes into the 3x part and nothing happened. I'll try again though.

Edit: Well I played it again, and did exactly the same thing as my first time through, being getting 3 pink boxes into the top. But this time it actually worked. Maybe I somehow broke the logic last time because I literally did nothing different. I gave it four stars this time b/c the level didn't glitch out on me. (I also played your coin puzzle level, which was awesome! Still can't figure it out though, I stopped playing the level to get out actually coins and do it b/c it's much faster/easier to think that way, at least for me).

Yeah I think it may be something to do with the fact that the moving object thermometer is full, and when you make all those paintballs fly it just can't cope with it sometimes

Funny that you should try my coin puzzle with actual coins; that's how I worked it out in the first place! The puzzle is actually possible in 6 moves, can't remember for the life of me what those moves are but I know I've done it! I like it because it is so simple, with such a complex solution.

Well... there is no cannon that can bounce you up so I'm going to have to guess that it was the part directly after the paint pots? There is a door marked out with white tape which buzzes as you go past it. Stand next to it and it will open, revealing a switch. Then some robotic arms will come down and carry the boxes across, you need to jump in one.

I will work on that first bit and on making the level a little clearer. I did draw some diagrams on the cardboard for people to follow in some places

Press the link under each screenshot, they are not true HD quality but I took a picture of my 1080p TV with my 10MP digital camera, they are quite clear
I am quite new to these forums and I couldn't find a way to make the thumbnails link to the larger image

Update:

I've just republished the level with a few fixes.

- There is a sign to tell you where to go so you don't drop straight down onto the moving conveyor and get squished
- The fire & lightning emitters have a shorter lifespan so the fire block can't stay in your way if you die and respawn
- Boxes now (usually) land in the correct orientation when going onto the 3rd conveyor after the lift - this means when they drop down they will line up properly so you can jump on them more easily
- Only 5 boxes emitted at one time, this makes sure no more than 2 boxes are stacked at one time
- Metal door removed over switch controlling "paint zone" robotic arm lifters, it looked crap anyway
- Paint zone paint guns remade because LBP decided to delete the old ones when I wasn't looking, for no reason
- Poison gas added to stop players entering the lift area
- Poison gas added at end of underground electric section, LBP decided to delete this as well
- Forklift truck tweaked so it now breaks less easily when you run into an obstacle with the boxes

Hope you enjoy! It has only about 24 plays at the moment, I really want that number to grow

I just played your level & it was pretty fun

Positives:
+Visuals look great how you used the cardboard material
+Unique idea with how you thought about the box idea
+Gameplay was good
+Platforming was pretty fun
+Puzzles were great

Sugguestion:
-Near the end on the last puzzle might it took me a good minute to realise what I had to do & I guess the colors were the hints but by the looks of it, only 2 people completed it 1 player im #1 but score aint all that. anyway maybe should have instructions to help understand it..(Minor problem)

Overall this is a Must Play::star::star::star::star::star:

Sorry for bumping this, but it has a lousy 31 plays! What can I do to get more people to play it? I have fixed some of the issues so it's really looking great now. Even if it only deserves 3 stars... there are a hell of a lot more 2 star levels with a hell of a lot more plays...2010-08-30 18:25:00

Yes that's always been a problem with LBP1 I'm afraid. One of my levels published weeks ago only has 26 plays. The spammers with crappy levels dominate cool levels as always. Constant republishing is the only way I know to get more plays but I refuse to do that, partly because it's a pain but mainly because it's annoying for your friends keep seeing the message that you've republished every few seconds!

We can only hope it's better in LBP2. From what I've heard it should be. I'll go play your level now anyway.

Thanks, yeah I'll go and play your level as well. Us low-play creators ought to stick together lol.

It's basically an avalanche effect, something that MM didn't anticipate when they first released the game. That's how Ramp ended up on the front page for months and months. It's a lot better now, with brand new levels bubbling to the surface, but it's still the case that popular creators automatically get 500 plays when they create a new level.

If constant republishing is what I need to do, then that's what I'll do. I think the level's good enough to deserve more than 31 plays, so I will try my best.

Hey there, returning the F4F from earlier. ^o^

I chose this level from the three in your signature.

Pros
- Very creative gameplay. I was amazed at how you developed an entire level based around cardboard boxes moving around on conveyor belts. It was just astounding.
- The one section with the paint and the boxes...well whatever. You have to paint them the right color. It was awesome and I'd like to know how you did it. >.< (Like the logic behind it)
- Overall a very creative and fun platformer.

Cons
- Directions could have been provided better in some parts. I wasn't sure what to do in the first section where you have to basically run against the boxes to get to where you need to go.
- Visuals could use a bit of an improvement. The basic cardboard was good, but the other metal materials kind of took away from the simplistic effect. I understand it's a factory setting, but the cardboard and metal clash a lot. Perhaps choosing multiple styles of cardboard instead would help.

It was a really fun and creative level! Sadly, the visuals didn't help me any so I gave you: :star::star::star::star: It was a fun level. ^o^

Thanks for the feedback! The metal in certain parts is a necessity to stop things from breaking, but I'll have a look to see if I can improve the visuals a touch.

The puzzle where you have to paint boxes on conveyor belts uses quite a bit of complex logic! Here's how it works:

- The basic way it works is by dropping a tiny invisible magnetic key (on a very small piece of rubber) into a hidden compartment on the back of each box
- It is complicated by the fact that it is possible to colour a box one colour, and then repaint it another. So another magnetic key is dropped into the compartment with a different colour to tell it that it's been painted the wrong colour
- If the magnetic key switches detect a box with the first key but not the second, it initiates the mechanism
- I have two winches connected to a 3-way switch to control the movement of the rollers on the raising platform
- Timers make it so that the rollers initially stop, the platform goes up, then the rollers go backwards, then the platform goes down and the rollers go forwards
- A counting mechanism counts only the red boxes as they reach the top; other colours are let past. Once 3 boxes are counted the door opens!

underplayed level. I love the visuals and all the moving boxes and how you interact with them while you get through the level..
but there was a bug. at the section where you had to paint the boxes (which is an awesome idea) suddenly there was no more paint emitted and no more boxes spawned...
so couldnt finish it =(

Yeah sorry about that, I will try and fix that. I have come across it myself, and I don't know what is causing it other than a bug in LBP. It may come down to putting a switch in to let you through if it fails...

but there was a bug. at the section where you had to paint the boxes (which is an awesome idea) suddenly there was no more paint emitted and no more boxes spawned...

Bug FIXED!!! Here's what was happening:

My sticker thermo is very nearly full... if I place just a few more stickers it will overheat
Paintballs falling on boxes count as stickers
Mid-game, the thermo overheats from too many stickers and so it stops emitting objects forever

The solution:
Firstly I added some emitters which emit bombs when you go past a certain point in the level. This destroys some of the sticker-heavy areas from early on in the level. This didn't fix the problem entirely, however, because the stickers were still building up.
So I reduced the lifetime property on all the paintballs. This is because even though they were falling on the boxes, it didn't matter because the boxes would disappear after a while. But what did matter was the paintballs hitting the conveyor belt. Because these would not go away and would keep adding and adding to the sticker count. They only did this when you released a button (my previous stress tests only involved holding the buttons down) as they are set to emit maximum 2 paintballs. But with the lifetime property set to 0.2 seconds, I tried for 5 minutes to break it and I couldn't.

So everyone who tried this level and couldn't complete it due to this bug - try it again it's fixed

P.S. there was someone playing my level as I was republishing - I guess they could well have been from this site. If that's you, and you get stuck, play again

I played your level twice, first time I got stuck near the beginning when the boxes simply didn't spawn (the section where you stack 3 on top of each other)

Second time it all worked ok until the end with painting the boxes, I couldn't figure out what you wanted me to do with the boxes. I figured the X3 meant paint it 3 colors, so I got a box to the 2nd floor after that, but then I couldn't figure out how to get to the 3rd floor. I got a box to the 3rd floor once but that was just by running over the buttons a lot and I still don't know what I need to do to get a box to the 3rd floor. Instructions please!

Paint each box dark blue, then it will reach the 2nd floor.

Then paint it cyan, remember that re-painting a box after it's been painted means it won't go up.

Then you need 3x red boxes to reach the top

The colours you need to paint the boxes are displayed underneath the things that push them up to the next level.

If you are colour blind I can forgive you for not working it out

I am not colorblind, so I guess it is completely my fault that I couldn't figure it out. I will have to remember to try it again later today. I still think some in-game text would be helpful.

Hey I won't hold it against you

Maybe I should add some text hints. I did want to make it a little bit of a challenge though - and giving people the answer takes that away. I know some people had issues because after some time it would break but that's fixed now. I like to leave subtle hints rather than spell it out. Anyway thanks for checking out my level, you were not too far from the end Oh and don't worry if the forklift breaks... you can still complete the level without it.
