Overview / compendium on thick / thin / thick / thack / (more?) layers

Archive: 4 posts

Hey there. I'm trying to get a sense of all the different layers / thicknesses available in LittleBigPlanet. Thrawling through the search results on this site is a very tedious process: Many threads discussing the various thack/theck layers are referencing various glitch-materials, methods, or other threads with without their origins.

Is there an overview somewhere that describes the various layers in detail? (position relative to other layers, methods of re-creating this layer, notes on editability and other oddities)

Cheers!

The Theck layer is the layer the checkpoints are in and is like a second Thin layer which collides with the Thick layer. Thack is as thick as a sackboy which means it can move past checkpoints and inside the teacup. There are loads of levels online with editable Theck and Thack layers, but if you want to put a MM object in the Theck layer you need to "layer pop".

You can "layer pop" them into the theck layer, but they won't be stable. As soon as you select them, they'll pop back to one of the thin layers.

Layer popping is where you click L3 to copy an object, then click L1 or L2 to move it to a diff layer and almost immediately click X to place it (so you're clicking X before it actually finished the layer transition). If it's done right, your object will be in between thin layers (usually if you've moving back a layer, it'll end up in the theck layer and if you're moving forward, it'll end up in the thock layer). Once it's there, you can push it around with other objects/materials, or add bolts/switches decorations, but as soon as you use your popit to select it (including grabbing a bolt or switch), it'll pop back. If you can accomplish whatever you're trying to do without needing to touch the object again once it's in the theck layer, then you can get it to work. If you're going to need to glue it to something or any other adjustments where you need to select it, then it's impossible.... as far as we know.

Ah, cheers. That at least cleared up some of it.

Edit: ah, I was looking for this. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=26490-Theck-amp-Thack-Sublayer-Guide

Wrong. True theck will stay as theck, not pop back.

Just look thread above
