Potentially re-opening the LBPCentral Twitter account

Archive: 25 posts

For those of you that are unaware, we do have an official Twitter account (http://www.twitter.com/lbpcentral), though we haven't used it in quite some time. When it was open, I didn't have the time (or means) to update it like I wanted to, so it became a resource that was so rarely used that we made the decision to cut it. However, times have changed, our site has changed, how much news we put out has changed, so I think it's worth considering re-opening it again. However, I only want to do this if there'd be demand for it - if you guys think you'd see some benefit in getting your LBPC-related news via your Twitter account. If there's demand, I'm up for giving it a real shot this time, but if you don't think you'd use it I don't want to waste time/resources/etc when they could be better spent someplace else.

If we did re-open, I'd do a visual refresh of the account as well - it's a bit outdated.

So, what do you think? Would you guys be into this?

I don't think I'd really benefit from it, the only time I might use Twitter is just a quick check of Media Molecule's Twitter to see if there's any new news on LBP, but LBPC is the first site I go to everyday really, so an LBPC Twitter would just be repeating stuff I saw on LBPC...

Actually, what kind of stuff would you tweet? LBP news or LBPC news? Or both?

Personally I've only ever used Twitter when I was with Sackcast, so I wouldn't use this. Bt then again I know a lot of people do use twitter and right now I can't think of anything else we could have instead...so...yeah.

Sorry if that doesn't help

All LBPC-related stuff (notices, site updates, etc) would get tweeted by default. I'd try to tweet as much other content as I could - I'd be following many of the primary outlets (the official LittleBigPlanet twitter, Mm's account, etc) and would probably just retweet the LBP-related news to save time.

Nope, that works fine. Personal opinions are exactly what I'm looking for here.

I'd most likely check the site 1st before checking any site-info on twitter, so I wouldn't really reccomend it.2010-08-29 11:35:00

Well even if not many people would look at it... why not?
I can say that I use twitter pretty frequently and more news is always a plus. Twitter is used for news that aren't really big enough to post elsewhere so I guess that would be the case here too.
Well whatever you do, I am now following LBPC

It would be good to reach people outside of LBPC, as people could retweet our tweets and stuff like that, right?2010-08-29 21:12:00

I don't see much potential for it, but then again, I'm not too familiar with twitter.

LBPC does what I think its twitter would do: summarizes LBP information from a variety of sources. In a way, an LBPC twitter could disrupt the way that LBPC summarizes information. I'd have to check both places for updates (right?.)

I also wonder if the twitter would be more popular than LBPCentral. Lately, at times we've had more guests online than members. It seems like too many people are more interested in news than becoming active here and taking advantage of the other things that LBPC has to offer.

Yeah, like everyone has said; not totally needed. Everyone here, save a few members, just check the site first, I believe. I don't even know how many people actually have a Twitter. If it's time consuming and/or a hassle, don't do it. Your call though, CC.2010-09-03 02:25:00

If it could be integrated into a side bar on the site then it might be worth looking into, else i'm not fussed.2010-09-07 08:37:00

This would be handy to check stuff quickly and easily on the move. I try and come here on my phone a lot when I'm out the house or at work as I travel a lot. But the pages load soooo slow on my phone as the mobile version was scrapped (if I'm not mistaken). So I could easily check twitter whilst on the move to check if there was anything worth logging into LBPC for.
With PAX end everyone tweeting whilst there I've been on twitter all the time the last few days

I doubt I would ever use it. I'd rather have an rss feed than twitter. Twitter is just kinda messy to me.

Update.. but I guess I can do an rss to twitter. So whatever.. I just feel twitter is kinda limited, corny and a fad. ..then again, I am not a fan of facebook either. lol

I go on twitter frequently, and it's a very handy source for me.

and perhaps you could tweet a link and info to a thread here when there's an announcement? the 140 character limit would "stop" big news

Maybe instead of re-opening a Twitter account you could set up an RSS feed for the LBPC news feed.

I deleted my Twitter account a while ago, so not much use to me personally, but I guess it could work as a semi-advertisment.2010-09-07 17:40:00

I am always on twitter, so whatever you do is fine. But in all honesty CC, as long as you keep your personal feed updated it will make me feel all tingly and special. Like a double rainbow *looks up* Woah.2010-09-08 18:34:00

I use Twitter quite a bit - mostly as a news feed. The stuff I'm really interested in (e.g., LBPC) gets sent to my phone via notifications. Everything else I tend to browse a couple times a day via website or an app. I feel that it's a good source of news and other info, and the ability for others to retweet makes it worth the effort.

So yeah, I'd love to see LBPC back on Twitter. It would be great to have notifications of the latest Spotlights, news items, happenings, etc. It was one of the very first accounts I followed when I first set up my account and I was sad to see it shut down. I do understand the level of effort and resources it takes though. There's my $0.02.
