Can someone tell me if these would be possible

Archive: 12 posts

co-operative development of a game, via linked levels. So someone could create level 1-3, someone else 3-6, 6-9...

Also, via the linked levels features can you operate linked levels as a hub, returning to the same level you exited from (I really don't see why this wouldn't be possible).

Also, say if you were using an inventory system, do you think you'll be able to carry that aspect over between levels? So say for example I were making a Zelda clone, and in dungeon 1 a boomerang got added to my inventory... then do you think it'd be possible to have this continue through a linked level?

Thankyou, don't worry if these aren't questions you can answer. If you have any information that might pertain to potential answers, that may be useful too, if simply no one knows answers to these questions at this point - then I apologize for asking.

Linking:
We're not very sure yet about it, but it might be limited to levels on your own moon. But in the vids I've seen, the link door has the level name and creator, so it might be a possibility.

Consistency through levels:
The short answer is no. People speculate that there might be switches that can detect pins (as a kinda hokey way to recall things between levels) but nothing has been confirmed. It'd be nice, but I'd treat each level as their own self contained 'game'.

Thankyou for the response. If it was on my moon, we could just set the level to copyable, then make a new PSN and host the game on that PSN account (would seem the only fair way if a group of people developed the game)

I guess it's possible to still replicate metroid structured gameplay, with sticker switches. Although not quite as fun as having say, a new weapon open up the new path.

Hmm? well im pretty sure the level linker has nothing to do with levels on the moon,
im more then sure it lets you link levels that been uploaded online, even if they are not your own,
moon levels are not online just we can't load when theres no data to load, *mew

As for as saving level data.... theres no info on them planing anything like that sadly :/

oh, you can still have an inventory within the same level.
You have a lot of new logic toys to play with. Who's to say your weapon can't have a bit of logic on it?

If I could link to other creators, I'd dedicate an entire level just to my faves. xD

What I COULD do would be to have it the same hub, but a different 'hub' at the same time. So say within the same example, 'link' gets his boomerang, so instead of returning to the same HUB#1, he returns to HUB#2 which is a copy of HUB#1 but with the boomerang functionality added to the direct control seat.

Lol this would be awesome. I'd make myself a cool mansion which had all my favourite levels portals scattered through it's rooms and grounds. Then just chill there whenever I was idling

Yeah sorry... used to my PS3/PSP browser which tends to crash/produce formatting issues when I make edits.

Thanks for all the info though as I said. Shame it doesn't sound as if everything I had dreamed will be possible but I got a good set of information that I can use to start planning some stuff ^_^

Yoho, Ya its a shame theres no new way to save data on levels,
but you can still use the old sticker way, like just use a sticker on a menu
for when you want to use *input weapon here* not the most cool but it gets the job done. :/

I was just about to remind you of "stickers", but fumetsusozo was faster...

Of course, the inter-level information transfer (fake jargon!) would be more graceful.

No, you are definitely able to link other creator's levels. Alex Evans himself said in an interview that he hopes people will make levels with a bunch of level links that lead to other people's levels.

It's not really any different... It's not like you're giving out editable copies of the levels...
