MiDI importing to sequencer

Archive: 1 post

Somebody need to hit this topic there was image import and now we got other thing to import, few things first:

What is MIDI:

MIDI is a sequencer format containing music notes information, it's made to be compatible with real electronic pianos and able to use via MIDI port (aka Joystick port in some PCs, usually sound card component) so PC and keyboard can transfer note data easily between themselves ofcorse same as most sequencers (LBP2 sequencer included) music is divided in to patterns of notes that can placed on tracks. In MIDI each track is assign to instrument, MIDI have consistence list instrument sets defined by the standards, and all MIDI players should have them in form of samples so it i wlll be able to play them :

Ofcorse LBP2 sequencer won't have them all to keep compatibility with MIDI, but still note data still will be useful. Tehere ton of MIDI files in Internet, curretly mostly used in Karaoke (due fact that it contains note of song, so it's easy to sync text with song) and polyphony ringtones (yes most phones was MIDI players ;] but now MIDI in this market is nearly dead) and of corse people who make music, specially remixes use it in real deal music editors to hold there note data or remix existing songs.

Copyright?

Ofcorse this might be a issues as with images, MIDI used in Karaoke are mostly copyrighted (but they use little different format from MIDI and this can be blocked), also songs them selfs are copyrighted... but heres the catch, same as we can recreate images simply by painting, we can do the same by playing the song on piano most MIDIs that you can find in Internet are in reality are recreated by individuals, by recording piano via MIDI port for example, sometimes even manually placing notes, same proceeder surly won't avoid LBP2 (it's already happening in LBP1), MIDI importing would make only things much easier.

Other issues?

MIDI file importing, PS3 is not supporting MIDI files, so standard PS3 APIs won't allow to import those filels from hard drive, only way is using Internet connection and have build something in-game and LBP.me (for example).
-Lack of instruments, but again note data is more important then this, everything can be fix manually here.
-Compatibility, LBP2 sequencer need to have same tools as MIDI

So what think about MIDI importing in LBP2?

Probably won't be in the game but it's nice topic to discuss, besides i'm sure most of you will use MIDI files on PC to transfer notes to LBP2 manually anyway;]

heres some examples how midi looks like:

Even without importing this something that you may expect from LBP sequencer since as you see LBP sequencer looks similar to those, some of them use custom simples and LBP ill probably have poorer instruments so don't expect to sound the same in LBP2
