What are your thoughts on the new MAG beta?

Archive: 12 posts

I just downloaded it today, and it really made the game worth playing again. The game is now much more balanced and you don't have to spend all of your skills points to get one weapon.2010-08-26 04:36:00

What's the point of a beta when the game has already been out for what, months?2010-08-26 14:51:00

Uh....the same reason there has been a LBP beta for basically the whole time LBP has been out...to test new features, game changing features at times.

And, my thoughts on the beta are that I wish I could play. It never lets me in lol.

Sucks you gotta have the Game to play it... :/
(I traded in mine long ago... )
They should at least warn you about that beforehand instead of making people waste 2 hours downloading and installing to realize you need the actual game to play it... -_-

Thats a kind of silly question, with big patches that change games they could break the game or even just ruin the game for people. So betas are used to make sure the game doesn't break and to get player feedback on whether the new features improve or hurt the game.

Oh yeah that's right. I forgot they had a water beta for LBP to test out the feature. Thanks for the non-sarcastic reply.

They didn't warn you?!?! Oh, I thought they did. Oh wait, I think it was that they let people know that about the beta on the MAG website. So, I guess if you don't have MAG, you probably wouldn't go on the site. Fail on Them lol.

When it was on the PS blog it mentioned you need the disc, and I'm pretty sure it said on the store that you need the disc.

I've been playing the Beta a while now.
I'm a huge MAG fan.

Anyways, it's great to see Zippers continued support for this game, but the Beta definitely has alot of issues that'll need to be resolved before the content is added to the retail game.

The new game mode, Escalation is rather poorly thought out.
The A, B and C objectives are just tiny buildings in the middle of plains or ditches, and don't offer any real sort of cover, getting in, out, or staying there.
D is too much of a bottleneck.Everyones filtered into the same routes to enter the objective. Which makes it really difficult when you have twice as many enemies as you do friendlies.

The new skill trees are great overall.
I was really happy when I first played and I noticed they're reduced the casual walking speed. I was then really annoyed again when I discovered they'd added skills to increase the casual walking speed and the sprint speed, ABOVE that of the retail version.
This isn't CoD. None of this kiddies FPS nonsense.
They've also added one-hit-kill knife skills. Coupled with the improved movement speeds, everyones just slashing each other to bits.
I wonder why there are guns in this game?

The new supply demo is a nice idea, but the levels you need to be are ridiculous. Leven 50-odd (Out of 70) for the level 3 & 4 assault rifles?
I mean, even mines are locked until you're level 62.
In the supply depo, the attachments are labels with what they go on. So, newbies don't really know the difference between the small suppressor and the large suppressor.

The 9 new weapons they've added seem OK for the most part.
I'd rather they had added to the existing weapon tiers, but instead they're a class of their own.
The new AR is a tier 4, not a tier 3.
The new Sniper Rifle is a tier 4, not a tier 3.
And the new Machine gun is a tier 3, not a tier 2.
This is a minor, complaint, though. Not a huge issue.
