Come in, agent! Sprocket Town needs your help! Our industries cannot operate effectively without that one essential resource...
This is the first level I've published in about a hundred years, so I'm a bit out of practice. It's a bit of a departure from my previous efforts, artistically speaking. I don't really have much to add, I hope someone enjoys it.

EDIT:

Thanks to Domik for these pictures

Hey everyone,

I remember playtesting this level and being completely and literally blown away. It's the first time I think I saw a silhouette-based level on the PSP, and I'm amazed it turned out the way it did without any fancy lighting effects. Take that PS3!

Anyways, this level is a must play for its unique visual style and awesome salieri-patented vehicles. Great job S, I can't wait to play the final version, but from what I played, it's an automatic 5:star:s and a <3.

First, as Jeff said the style is just incredible. Not only is the silhouette look well done, but the corner editing is absolutely astounding! Not a lot of platforming prowess needed, although I did have some challenge staying inside the Rotocopter until I got used to it. Really it's just a great level to enjoy your fantastic visuals and cool machines with a funny and interesting little story on the side.

Thanks SirP, I'm really glad you think the style worked. It started off as really really fun to do but by the end I was kind of sick to death of it. I am pleased with how it turned out, though.

I get what you say about the rotocopter, the problem I had was trying stopping Sackboy from falling out too easily but still making it fairly easy to actually get out when you need to. I had to strike a balance or otherwise totally redesign it, which I couldn't be bothered to do because I'm especially lazy.

I'm absolutely terrible at making challenging platforming so I generally aim for just making the gameplay engaging enough to maintain interest.

CHeers for the feedback. I see you have a demo out so, even though I haven't done F4F (because I'm lazy) I'll try to check it out.

Yes, I have been doing a little bit of undercover creating. ^_^

Shall give it a play and thourogh review after school.

You'll have to play it, B3, the Sprocket Town administration doesn't conform to any common prototype. Not that I've gone into much detail. But it's all in my head.

This post will contain feedbacks. If you are allergic to feedbacks, you should not take or handle this post.

Okay, so right off the bat, looks great! Being a salieri level, I'm not surprised. :-) The little train ride is very neat and fun, I quite like it. Salutations? WORD TOO BIG, HURT HEAD. D-: But I head up anyways. Man that is an impressive character. Again, why wouldn't it be, it's a salieri level! OH MY GOD, what a cool device, and an amazing logo. I love it, ever minute of it.

HEY! I wouldn't join a union for anything, lady! I'm sure as heck not supporting some politician's agenda! I want my Beck rights. :-D

Anyways, I jump on the nifty little vehicle here. Very nice little contraption. I push it forward after using the lift, then back to a fall. Long story short, it flips over and blocks where I assume a new one is emitted, so I restart the level.

*TAKE TWO*

Okay, so I get back to where I was. Awesome vehicle segment time! Wheeeeeeee! The gondola flies like a charm, and looks great too. I make it to the destination okay. (I feel for Ferrers, I'd go crazy too, being in a union and all. :-D) The outpost looks amazing like everything else around. I head down in the mine. I love the platforming here, quite fun. ZOMG PIT OF DEWM! Then another cool vehicle. Love it.

Okay, time to pull a Palin and drill, baby drill. This segment is quite awesome, I really love it. The drill handles very well. Up I go! The blimp is very well done. TEA! I get tea! I'm glad to know my life wasn't put in danger for anything stupid. Wooot!

-Review-
Looks: 5/5
Everything is amazingly well done, all the machines look great. Think I could borrow a few gear shapes sometime? ;-)
Platforming: 5/5
This level had some very nice gameplay elements, particularly the gondola.
Story: 5/5
Like Fastbro said below, could have used a little more fleshing, but I love it nonetheless. Making tea the end result is worth five stars alone!
Replay Value: 5/5
I'm coming back for the eye candy alone!

PERFECT SCORE! :-D

The Good: VISUALS! Plain and simple, they're amazing.
The Bad: There's really nothing bad about this level. So I'll just put that it was made by a liberal. ;-)
The Ugly: Looking at my own corner editing after playing. Ugly indeed!

Five stars and a black stucco heart!

Feedback time!

Ok, first of all I love the art of this level, it's so... unique. And it's obvious that you've put a lot of effort into the corner editing! Even though there was no change in colour or materials, it was easy to tell what kind of area I was in. (eg. The Mine) The mechanics of the level are equally as amazing. I love the little details you added such as on the title. I'm not really a fan of vehicle levels, but all the vehicles is this level just worked so well. (I guess why your known as "The Vehicle Guy!") My complaint is... Well, I really cannot think of one, this level is fantastic. (Perhaps your best yet!)

Design: 10 (Unique and beautiful...)
Originality: 10 (Original style and original gameplay)
Fun Factor: 9 (Highly enjoyable from start till finish)
Story: 8 (The story was good... But could've been a little deeper)
Overall: 9 (Another fantastic level, salieri! You should be proud!)

Hey F-Bro,

Thanks for the feedback, really pleased you enjoyed it. I did put quite a lot of effort into the corner editing, but I also did a LOT of copying and pasting. Thank goodness they added that function! I'm really glad the visual style worked for you too. As I alluded earlier, I started the level months ago and by the time I'd taken several extended breaks and forgotten what I was trying to do several times, I sort of lost perspective on whether it actually worked or not.

It's interesting that you said possibly my best level yet. I can't actually bear the thought of doing a level that might be better than my last one, partly because I usually want to do something completely different by the time I finish a level, and partly for fear of devaluing my previous effort (ridiculous - how could anyone get better with an attitude like that?) so I insecurely change styles so that my levels can't really be compared with each other. That's also the reason I went 'lite' on story this time, so I'm dead pleased to have got an 8 in that!

Hey salieri!
Fantastic job here!, I mean, the corner editing was great, a very nice story and a beautiful art style.
I don't have a ps3, so I couldn't play silhouette-based levels on my PSP, but you made a excellent job here, and thanks for giving me a level experience like this
You made some really interesting mechanisms, I loved the part when you take the coil, and what a great ending!
Camera angles were correctly assigned and I saw a bit of steampunk style on your characters and enviroments.
And gameplay in general was good. It was fun to play while enjoying of the beautiful enviroments.
I dont have any complaints, it was a perfect level for me
Five BIG :star::star::star::star::star: and a solid <3

Cool! Thanks a lot guys.

I hadn't realised there were silhouette levels on PS3. They look amazing!

EDIT: Forgot to mention. Thanks for pointing out that engine flip possibility. I hadn't considered it and have fixed the level so that can't happen anymore, as far as I can tell.

Awesome level! I love the steampunk style, and the opaque black design makes it seem like a moving comic book, and it enthralls the player. The mechanisms and veciles harnessed to progress through the level were spot on and fitted perfectly with the theme. Every single piece in this level was constructed perfectly. The multitude of vechiles was astounding, and I loved the rotocopter the most, especially the way it flew and stayed upright. The only problem with it was that I kept falling out of it and dying. The bit of humour at the end was great and so was the scoreboard. I can't think of anymore things about this mechanical masterpiece! Well done! :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3.2010-08-26 18:02:00

Hey Sali
This is my first level from you that I've played, but apparently you're quite the celebrity creator huh? I'm both in awe of, and mad at you, lol. I have a half started silloutte level like this on my moon, and thought I was going to be the first to do this. Aw well, yours is more awesome. I have a space parody level I'm doing now that bumbed it back, but my sillhouette level is next in the pipe. Expect it in about 2 weeks. It's a different approach, but same look. Can't wait for you to see it! As for your level, spectacular art design, and a fantastic story. Everything worked great and was fun to traverse. 5:star: and a <3

Not much more I can add other than I've played this and everything worked fine and looks fantastic. The art style feels new and impressive, and requires a lot of skill to pull off. Even the characters looked detailed, and you only got a silhouette of them!

Unbelievable Salieri!

Wow Salieri, your level is fascinating.
It's been awhile since I've last seen a level from you. I'm glad to see you still building. It looks like you have over 1,000 creators hearts too, congratulations. This level is quite different from the rest. This level is more exquisite, yet mechanicle feel to it. It seems you are still building all around vehicles in this level too. Everything is black, but ashamed to see those darn checkpoint and winchs are a kill to the mood. No matter, your level is very fantastic.

I like how the machinery make this level very dynamic. Everything is active and rotating. The corner editing is terrific. I loved the characters and the area. Everything is a silhouette. I played along with the level by wearing "Black Rubber" without any other costumes. It makes me fade into the silhouettw design aswell. I liked the designed title of "Sprocket Town." It suits well for the level design. Though, the crane you grabbed to see the title felt out of place. Everything looked rounded and smooth. Though, the crane came to be a bit rough edged. Maybe that was the point...

You made the entire landscape look like as it were to be all in one layer. You made the background look like some places were far and others so close. The song plays akong well withe the level. The flying ship was also very smooth controlling. It was easy to handle. I also enjoyed those mountains in the background. Very warm hearted feeling to seeing that scenery. Then it leads to one of my favorite parts of the level, the mines. entering the mines was a good feeling. Seeing the walls on your side going down the elevator. Then a new song plays. 0_o

Quite a different obstacle I have never seen. With the two winchs on the platform and a bolt rotating back and forward. Then a sink trap leading to a vehicle. I enjoyed the move and digging for coal was plain. Controls were easy to use and no trouble done. The end with the blimp is cool. Seeing as in the background it was done before, but experiencing it was much funner. Then tea for the ending. Very terrific level Salieri. May I ask what CPU meant too? Maybe I missed something, but I don't know. I've had no problems with the playthrough too. With that said, I will move on to your ratings.

Length: 5/5 (The level lived to its expectations hopefully. Well driven and worth-while.)
Material Usage: 5/5 (One basic, solid color is all it took for this level.)
Sticker Work: N/A (Pshh, get out of here.)
Corner Editing: 5/5 (Marvelous. Everything from people to Vehicles.)
Terrain/Mechanics: 5/5 (Obstacles flown and everything was a silhouette.)
Story: 5/5 (This level didn't need a story, it was already good enough.)

Total: 25/25 Perfect Score!!

This level had a very implemented design. The structure and layout was Machinery and so classy.
Therefore, you deserved 5 stars :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. <3

Great work. Can't wait to cross paths again,

Hey guys, I can't tell you how grateful I am for all the feedback. Even the negatives I was quite prepared for and for the most part aware of, but I tried to be very single-minded and driven in my approach and I'm so pleased you guys have enjoyed it so much.

Spark: CPU stands for Coal Procurement Union. I find it very difficult to get all the dialogue I would like to write down into the limited number of magic mouths I allowed myself - consequently I find it hard to convey all the information I've settled on, so it probably wasn't abundantly clear.

Thanks again all for the reviews.

Okay, sorry I know I am extremely late (ugh...soo much homework and chores...), but me and Edward Cullen Sackboy finally played through this level (yes I named my sackboy >.>). Anywho, this level is fantastic! I love how everything in the level is like a working gear and everything is constantly moving. The storyline was quite compelling and humorous at the end I loved the visuals (the silhouette people especially!) personally! But overall this level is awesome: Nice Vehicles, storyline, puzzles, platforming! Everything in this level was awesome

I've played this level and it was fantastic. The vehicles were very well designed but that's to be expected from someone like you. They were easy to control and the gameplay that went with it was very enjoyable.

Your character design was great, as usual, it may seem simple, but the characters have seen a lot of time under that corner editing tool.

Speaking of simple, the look of this level was absolutely perfect. The simpleness of the black fiber paper contrasting with that bright blue background, magnificent. You're probably the only person who has pulled off that look.

This level is definitely one of my favorites. 5 :star: and a <3.

Great visuals and great vehicles! (i think thtas what everyone here said without reading though this thread)

One funny thing:

Arrestor: Glad you enjoyed it and even celebrated with tea at the end. Honestly, I wouldn't have got anywhere with create mode without tea.

Silver: It's really nice that people notice the details. I did do a heck of a lot of corner editing for this - I thoguht that by the time I'd finished I wouldn't start a new level for ages - but I've already begun!

Thanks guys, very pleased to have featured in the spotlight again.

Also, thanks for the detailed feedback Joruto. I know it must seem fairly miserly to not include any score bubbles. I like to pretend that it's because I prefer the purity of a score and bubble free level, but the fact is I find they create quite a lot of lag whilst in create mode and I hate using them. I'll try to put some in a level in the future as it's something I've never really properly tackled.

Sprocket Town

First thought just by title name: A mechanical wonder!

Character(s):
Lord Glyde, Director Dedlock, and the Construction worker, were nicely made looking silhouettes

Visuals:
Black Cardboard never looked better! The moving gears and mechanisms was definitely an added bonus to the theme.

Story?:
Sprocket Town is in need of coal......for their tea!?

Originality:
10/10 - I've seen the all-black theme before, but not with all the add-ons your level has!

Gameplay:
I had a blast riding HQLocos, Rotocopters, operating Rams, and even doing a little bit of platforming!

Overall Fun Factor:
10/10 ? I?m surprised I didn?t faint from the epicness!

Overall Score:
:star::star::star::star::star: and a <3

Congrats on the Spotlight!!

Hidy Ho Salieri! It has taken me forever to get the chance to play this level, but I'm at a hotel this weekend and I was able to grab a few levels and play them in my down time.

There probably isn't much to say that hasn't been said, but I'll do my best.

I loved the level! The silhouette theme was handled perfectly, and the moving parts made this level have a dynamic feel that most other levels just don't capture. Looking at other levels and comparing them to this makes this level feel like a Pixar movie with constant dynamic things going on, while other levels have that terrible static feel that low quality CGI movies have.

The platforming was spot on, and the level was very intuitive.

I'm writing this on an iPod, so I'm going to cut this a bit short. This level was fantastic. Keep up the great work :-)

With great regret, it seems I must bump this old thread, on account of the fact I've only just read the last couple of feedbacks.

Poo, really glad you enjoyed the level. It was interesting, actually, that you said it felt intuitive because the level was pretty much unplanned beyond the basic concept, and when I thought I did have a plan I didn't stuck to it. I would just make a little bit and then think "right, what would I like to do next from here?" and just kept going like that. Similarly with the visuals, I was always looking around wondering what I'd like to see and where. In this case it almost always turned out to be cogs, of course. I think more than ever I just made the level that I wanted to play, and luckily it seems to have worked for other people too.

Countess Z, I'm very happy to have lured you over to the small side. I'm very happy to have managed to impress a PS3 regular. The video was made by jeffcu28, so unfortunately I can't take credit for that too

I played this way back when it first came out and must have forgotten to leave feedback. This level is excellent, everything is so smooth. It seems that you have really mastered create mode, because everything you do looks and works perfectly. Your visuals were amazing, whichis crazy because most everything is one material. I really liked your vehicles, you are the master of vehicles (though it seems you kind of want to shake that one off). The plot in this level was good and when the story came to a close, it was humorous. In particular, I really liked your characters. They are always top notch. I also really enjoy your language use; like using klaxon, when others would just say horn. Or dirigible instead of blimp. Excellent story + excellent visuals + excellent gameplay = excellent level.

I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3

Hey, thanks for the feedback guys. I've never been called aursome before, jimydog, so thanks for that ^_^

Captain Rule: Something that you said reminded me that I need to extend my warmest thanks to amazingflyingpoo who helped me cure a lag issue I had. You mentioned that the level seems really smooth and that was one of the things I was most pleased with as I went along. Then, suddenly, just as I was getting to the very end, the level started lagging out of nowhere. Just a little bit, and not enough to make it difficult to play, but it completely ruined the feeling of fluidity that you get from all of the moving objects. I consulted Poo and he gave me a few pointers - including that too much poisonous gas can cause lag. I got rid of a fair amount of gas and this fixed the problem and the level was back on the rails, after about a week of tearing my hair out, so thanks Poo!

I'm really pleased that the style of this level has been so well received, and I'd really like to do another one in a similar style, but I have to finish the other project I'm working on first, and I'm a pretty slow worker...
