The Museum

Archive: 12 posts

I was thinking about LBP and Creator Curators, when I thought of making a museum that contained loads of items from the best levels on psp. For it to work, authors could 'donate' well recognised original items, probably with a littlebiglock, to me. Of course I won't use them in anything else without your written permission. I could arrange everything with funny descriptions and maybe a bit of story. I'm interested to know what Taffey, Poo and the other well known creators think?2010-08-24 23:19:00

Hey TheForgotten,

Will you be handing out these objects, or just putting them on display? If it's the former, then I have a few concerns.

This reminds me of a thread a while ago that asked whether one should use prize bubbles. I tried searching for it but was unsuccessful. However, I do recall the debate that went on. Here are the pros and cons if I remember correctly:

Pros

Prize bubbles make excellent rewards, particularly if you hide them very well or if you give them as gifts for "acing" a level.
Others can learn from other creators, especially if the item has advanced logic operating within it.

Cons

It hinders creativity. Creators would most likely use these premade objects in their levels as a cop out for making their own designs.

There could be more I'm missing out, but the big question is, do the pros outweigh the very heavy con? Personally, I would hate to see any of the iconic objects produced by some of the great designers on the PSP trivialized by being overused at the expense of fostering creativity of upcoming creators.

However, if you're just putting them on display, then I think it can be a great level. I would infuse a little gameplay into it somehow, maybe by using a switch to open up curtains, etc. just to make it more exciting rather than having sackboy/girl just running around.

I hope this helps.

Sounds like a nice idea. I'm sure it'd be a nice tribute to all the great creators out there.2010-08-25 22:14:00

This is a great idea! but i do agree with jeffcu but i dont mind people using other creators characters unless they dont give us credit i dont want people to think that the person who used other people's characters from there levels were made by the stealers, ok im just going to pretend you know what im talking about and stop there lol.

I like the musem idea!

Umm, this idea can sort of workout.
I don't know what type of response you want.
Maybe a nice theme to fit the museum and not something plain. It can look like a Theater like Museum. As Jeff mentioned, opening curtains to show the item. I hope you choose the right items to show. Good luck!

I probably won't start creating this until I've finished my RFTC entry, which I'm over halfway through. I'm not going to give them away, cause there are people who will claim them as their own work. I have a cool idea that the museum is set after an apocalyptic event, with fragments of objects from levels that have been blown apart.2010-08-26 10:45:00

This is a really cool idea! The only issue that I could imagine is that objects will usually be too complex to capture for me. Then again, I may just be thinking of the wrong thing :-) Just let me know what you would like and I can see what I can do :-D2010-08-26 15:09:00

I think this would be ace if, like a real museum, the objects are explained - how they work, what inspired them, etc. I'd be happy to help out.2010-08-26 15:44:00
