Great job with all three of the new drawings Ferret! I'd like to know how you do your coloring though, it always looks like an actual pencil drawing cause of the way it looks somewhat smeared and stuff!2010-10-01 01:35:00

Great job with all three of the new drawings Ferret! I'd like to know how you do your coloring though, it always looks like an actual pencil drawing cause of the way it looks somewhat smeared and stuff!

Well, here's how my coloring process essentially works:

1. I sketch it in real life
2. I scan it
3. I take it into Sumopaint 2.0
4. I set the brush settings to the following: post effect: smoothing, Flow: about %50, Opacity about %70 (though I change both the Opacity and Flow subconciously as I color)
5. I simply color in the sketch with a mouse, there isn't really any fancy techniuqe involved that i'm aware of o.o........
(though I suppose I should note that I change the shade of the colors frequently as I use them, which I could show you if I knew how to take screenshots...but unfourtunately, I don't)

How I color It actually varies with each drawing, and in my opinion, is kinda sloppy and inefficient.

Oh, ok! Does your keyboard have the "Print Screen" button on it anywhere? If so, then that's how you would capture everything that's on the screen. Then you can go to some photo editing program like paint and paste it there.2010-10-01 22:04:00

so here are some drawings for your enjoyment. (tried to make that look fancy..lol)

I love drawing sackpeople in chaotic situations
I should probably do it more often.

'Hand/head stand'

That's it for now, but I have 2 more on the way :3

Well when I tried it, it only showed half of the screen D;
and also, it was just a printing preview that i saw, how do i actually save it as a file (once i figure out how to get the whole screen) ?

and the only proof I have that I made them is that i'm an artist, and also that one of the the pictures is a picture of me...lol..

I can't find either of the originals D;

Hmmm!!! No proof as an arteeest?? I'm pretty sure you meant to say the exact opposite.

I'm posting this here because it has to do with something that's currently classified that i'm helping to create:
http://i51.tinypic.com/wl9ava.jpg (http://i51.tinypic.com/wl9ava.jpg)
The sackpeople were drawn by TheZimInvader, and the planet, by Spider-Jew.

*back on-topic*:
i'll try to get some new drawings of mine up soon, so stay tuned. whoever you are
(by soon i mean either later today or tomorrow..lol)

P.S: why do i get the feeling nobody checks this thread anymore?

I know I said i'd have 2 drawings up..by yesterday.... but I honestly have been having a slump in artistic motivation to finish anything recently.
probably because i'm busy stressing myself over drawing and designing stuff for teh secret projekts...(that's no longer very secret, apparently)
anyway, here's a drawing.. of how I feel...lol
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/idbhifzamksxqgmp.jpgBasically a notifacation that i'm taking a break from uploading alot of art here for awhile, until the time comes that I feel motivated and inspired again.
I might have the second one up in a little, depending on my mood.

Anyway:

Good one Ninja! I've always loved Defo-est's sackperson, and the expression you used in the drawing fits the sack very well. Also, the tiny circles that appear all on the sack is a cool little addition. 2010-10-08 04:47:00

Recently, I've kinda decided to randomly draw sackpeople of friends that join.
Like when I join somebody, and they have a cool costume, I either ask them if I can draw it, or draw it without saying anything right there and then, and take a pic with my ps eye to surprise them xD

So here's a few:
Made for my friend, Nikpayuk
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/ieebbizhjkxqimrp.jpg
Made for Alec (or CANDY_KING_ALEC, lol)
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/ieeafdzhpxpjrcba.jpg
Made for OneEyedBanshee
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/ieeagbzhddsndngj.jpgAnd last but not least, made for Keanster96
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/iedihhznnmifigrq.jpg

(I originally drew it on the same piece of paper and to the right of OneEyedBanshee's, so that's why he's scared and looking left, lol. http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/ieebehztotgbelnl.jpg xD )

AlsoSorry for the double-post

~Sincerely, Ninja :3

Here's a little something I drew for my friend Dragonvarsity for his birthday (which was yesterday, but I didn't know because i'm a tard >.> )
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/iefhaczglfqnjqgb.jpg Birthday hug FTW
Despite the fact that I rushed it, it still took longer than I thought it would, probably due to the fact that I used a new method(well, new to me anyway) of using multiple layers for the coloring.
It didn't make it any cleaner either, which is why i'm probably never ever using that techniqe again..
..EVAR
But hey, the fuzzy cat sackboy that I drew with the same method, but with the addition of hand-made fur texturing, isn't complaining.
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/iefhbezbxrxqlsde.jpg
Wait, wha-?..

Woah. Absolutely love the cat!!! (And dragonvarsity's b-day pic, it's very cute.) I think the layering technique worked out well. Great job!

Edit: You know, I might check out sumopaint one day, just to see how well I do with it.

Ok, so I know I said I was never ever going to use the layering techniqe ever never again:

I used a new method(well, new to me anyway) of using multiple layers for the coloring.
It didn't make it any cleaner either, which is why i'm probably never ever using that techniqe again..
..EVAR

But, I just tried it again and realised that the reason it didn't work so great was because I was doing it wrong (Which further supports this previous statement:
i'm a tard >.> .
Anyway, here's the new drawing
(Made for Acrdramon)

http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/ieixgfzerbgmjoii.jpgHe liked the sketch, so hopefully he'll like this even better.

Wow, that's amazing innov8, brilliant job and thanks Ninja for taking a pic, I made a sumo account but misspelled by username and password since there wasn't a confirmation for password and couldnt change my username. I did wanna change my password but have the option to say what I want to change it to, instead they did and it was a bunch of letters forming no word and I used my e-mail and I made a new account with the correct spelling password and username but now I have to make a new e-mail if I wanna make a new sumo account. :/2010-10-14 19:03:00

I'm unintentionally causing so many people that I know(and don't know) on this site to make Sumo accounts, that's it's creepy (nah, not really creepy at all actually) ...

Well first of all
please avoid double posting!
And to show a pic in a post
if you have the pic saved in your computer you have to upload it to a host(like tinypic.com or photoshop.com)
so you will get a url of the pic
When you the url put these brackets around it and you'll picture will show

No, but a notifacation popped up telling me that i was being attacked by viruses and tried to trick me into downloading all of them by telling me that the download was going to fix it..
I almost fell for it, but mcrosoft never makes you download things on-the-spot like that, if my bro hadn't stepped in and told me that, I would've ruined the computer..
So yeah, i'm afraid to try to download anything else :/

My virus detector whatever thing didn't pick up anything wrong with the site when I downloaded the trial a while ago, and their official site isn't malicious. I've heard that sometimes your antivirus software can mistake certain things for a virus, but I wouldn't risk it. You did use this link (http://sai.detstwo.com/sai/), right?

I haven't posted any art in awhile, so here's something i surprised myself with :o
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/axaehifzmqqixrnc.jpg
It's just practice (because i never draw backgrounds, and wanted to try)
The water looks meh because i've only ever drawn water once..
This is the first thing i've drawn using paint tool SAI :3

For basically all the drawings on this thread other than my traditional media drawings and that backround i just made have been created using SumoPaint 2.0 (http://www.sumopaint.com/home/).
The background was made using Paint tool SAI (http://sai.detstwo.com/sai/) (the program that TheZimInvader (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?9317-TheZimInvader)usually uses)

It's not really a kangaroo (though i understand how you could assume that),
It's more of just a creature that i made up...xD
And thanks

Here we go:

A meerkat anatomy and color study, in watercolors.
Sadly, I didn't realise how many mistakes I made until I scanned it.. Which means I ended up editing it a bit in PaintTool SAI and Sumopaint 2.0, though I didn't completely fix it.. >.<

Meerkats are dang hard to draw!.. (well..for me, anyway:tophat:.)

Ima post art because i'm bored :3 (and my poor thread is calling for a revival once again)

Here's an old sketch of what i think was supposed to be a canine skull, which I ended up turning into an evil monster with dripping black liquid of some kind, then drawing the forms of it's body around it.
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/axfifibzsjdedklt.jpg
then I scanned it and turned it into this using Sumopaint 2.0:
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/hexxdfzkpmqjbkha.jpg(I personally like the sketch better...)

It.. actually kinda does :hero:
Some of the creatures in that show are really cool; gives me ideas.
I've never liked any anime show that much (normally, anime is just annoying for me to watch..it has something to do with how the characters move and talk, but this show is just.. different.)
It's also made me wanna draw fanart.. (unfourtunately, I absolutely can't draw humans..)

Aa yes. Great show indeed, watched it a while ago but I can still remember it being good to watch. Although I haven't watched the movie, I just don't feel like it. I do remember though how I had heard a movie called Avatar was coming out so I thought it was for the show. So then I saw this trailer and it was obviously for the Avatar thingy sicne I saw Aang in human form but it didn't show the movie title at the end. I had heard Avatar had gotten amazing reviews and while in San Diego for ComicCon 09, I saw a poster for "Avatar" with a blue face and started to question myself about this movie...then after some research I figured it out. Anyway, no rush on the art. Yes, there haven't been any new ones lately but like you've said, you have an artist's block. You can pass that wall! :hero:

On an unrelated note, got the first letter of my name capialized! Thanks CC

prolly the fact that they dont have stupid comedy with people making stupid faces and bringing giant mallets outta nowhere and stuff

which is why COWBOY BEBOP and SAMURAI CHAMPLOO are considered to me as non-anime but awesome shows...same with AVATAR

I prefer Mushi-shi. In Japanese with English subtitles is best. I'm not just saying that. I don't like much anime and this one is unlike any others I've seen. DO NOT WATCH THE LIVE ACTION MOVIE. It really sucks. The anime is great tho.2010-12-04 07:59:00

According to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_the_last_airbender), the show uses part Anime and part North American influences in the drawing style. It also says there's going to be a spin-off of the show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar:_Legend_of_Korra) in 2011.2010-12-04 08:12:00

All of the sackperson drawings i've ever digitally painted were real-life sketches that i simply scanned and painted over with Sumo without even bothering to use layers or anything.

Yes, yes, I know, my methods are very sloppy...

Well, when it's just a random colorful fantasy-ish landscape like the one in my sig, it isn't too hard, but painting things like this are kinda difficult: http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/hfexgizmpnmgxrok.jpg it was made from scratch with a mouse, which i now realise was a bad idea. xP

See, backgrounds and landscapes aren't too hard to paint, because you can go all out with it. But it's characters that are difficult, because they have so many defining features that could be lost without the amount of restricted detail that lines provide.2010-12-04 21:36:00

I drew it from scratch with my tablet in PaintTool SAI. (I know the head's kinda too big, but i didn't realise it til' I was too far into the shading process to fix it. And he's not wearing his awesome headphones cause it wouldn't make any sense considering he's playing guitar)

Random fact: I love and know alot about ferrets, but have yet to ever own one as a pet. I've only ever held one, and i see them in pet stores constantly. I can't get one because my mom hates the smell.
(though i don't get what the big deal is. I smell waaay more than they do:arg

Anyway..

Another drawing/painting done with watercolor pencils, but instead of editing it in Sumopaint, this time I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0. (Software that came with my tablet, which is terrible for sketching, but less terrible than Sumo )

In other news:
I'm contemplating changing the title of the thread soon, since I post lots of non-LBP artwork anymore; This is obviously no longer strictly an LBP art thread.

Christmas is tomorrow, and i've been spending the last few days painting things for my family.
Here's one for my dad:
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/aaaicdizjogrjcxo.jpgIt's Master Chief from the Halo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_(series)#Games) series (Which everyone in my family loves, including me) or in this case, Mister Chief
Yes, yes, I'm aware of the many mistakes, but i never draw stuff like that, so there >.>

And here's one for my mom:
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/aaaicehzomkhptxn.jpg it's a fancy painting of Pinot Grigio (a type of whine)
She likes that kind of art (Tuskan-ish food art..lol)
I had less trouble with it than I thought, but it still looks cruddy.

Anywho,
Meeerry Christmas everybody :3

I had an art-attack. (see: User title)

'Meerkat Wardance'
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/aacfafxzsmrxpqom.jpg( Though meerkats can sometimes seem innocent and adorable, In the wild, when two different meerkat families come into each other's contact, they fight.... quite violently.
The two opposing groups typically charge at each other with their backs hunched in an attempt to make themselves seem bigger and intimidate eachother before finally running at full speed in what is often referred to as a 'wardance' until they either collide and begin figting, or one of them retreats. (a decision that must be made by the alpha-female)

I draw meerkats far too often....lol

Sketched and colored this with some fancy oil-based pencils I got for christmas. (well, it's not really 'colored' per say, considering it's in black & white xD)
(I wuv you, Santa ...:3)

And here's somethin' for my friend Sibtiger55 (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?10505-sibtiger55).

http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/aacfbfxzlsmjokxp.jpg

and I was all liek "ok."

So then this happened:

I really do hope he finds it to be... Cinsational. :arg:

Well, I'd hate to be cinical and cinister, but... wtf, Cin. I thought you were crazy after you made the Cin-Cow and iCin, but THIS...

I swear, we're gonna be seeing something like 'Cinabon or Incinamon or something Cin-related running about LBP2 soon enough. Surprised you haven't started your own cult yet. /awkwardness

As for the drawing itself, the quality has improved much since your last outing, Ninja. Now it looks like a cross between Infamous and Super Mario Strikers Charged cover art (in that pic, anyways). The outlines are cleaner, but still retain that grit and roughness that distinguishes your style from the rest. The glow is a nice touch, too.

Actually...Cin has used the "Cinnabon" pun in his little tagline thing on the Playstation Network...He even used "Cingerbread" once, but I don't like to be reminded of how terrible that one is. >__>

But yeah, nice artwork, as usual.

Cingerbread? Ouch.

Yeah, it really burns cinders in my brain when I think about it.

You won't believe all of the cintastic and cintising quotes he's used... it's cinful.

In my defense, it was Christmas. But as I recall, you did like Cindy Loo Hoo!

As I've expressed via visitor message... I'm overwhelmed with Cinfred . The cigar is quite cinerescent (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Cinerescent)

Cinfred's portrait will go well with your Dr. Ead (http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/hgbiiazdpodcbjrh.jpg) portrait in the Estate. I'd like to use your wine drawing too if it's ok.

And I just checked out your other recent artwork - Very, very nice. Your 'grungy' style is just unbelievable. It's not the kind of thing you would ever find in mainstream art.

You know it's a pin in LBP2 to have a full group all wearing the same costume?

In addition to the portrait that was requested by Cin, I also promised his friend, H3ART_BR3AK_T3CH, that i'd draw her one aswell. (she was there when i joined him, so after he asked, i felt it was only polite to offer one to her one too)

"For those of ye who are unaware, I, Zilly the Ferret, have an assistant, a 'meerkat in a hat' if you will, and his name is Tim."

http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/aaebecazxrjqifjx.jpg
This shady, crooked-looking young meerkat character(who really isn't so bad once you get to know him) is quite possibly closer to me than any character i've ever made or attempted to make, even my ferret fursona/alter-ego, Zilly the Ferret.
And he was practically an accident....

Let me tell you the (possibly boring) tale of how Tim came to be:

Back in my good ol' noob days when i was first beginning to learn to create things that weren't complete abominations, I was trying to see if I could fashion a meerkat shape out of a grabbable material (not sponge!), and what I ended up with, was a lovely blob that was just barely in the shape of a meerkat at all. Nonetheless, I was proud of it, so i made a little striped tophat (i have a tendency to put hats on things), slapped it right on his head, and named it Tim.

Whilst making my second colorfully trippy rollercoaster (and yes, there was a first one), i decided to add him as a guy that gave you directions on how to start it. In the process, I had unknowingly given him a personality.

After making a few more levels, adding him as the guy who explains everything in most of them, and further making him a character, I left him as a creation in LBP, and nothing more..
Until recently, that is.
I've decided to make him a real character(and by 'real', i mean featuring him in my artwork and perhaps a story or something)
I am currently developing a backstory for how he became Zilly's assistant, and what exactly he assists with..xD I guess just basically anything Zilly needs help with (in LBP, it's running her levels for her when she's not around..lol)

I think that's the most words i ever typed at once in this thread.. (or anywhere, for that matter O.O)

I have updated the OP with a new spoiler-'Original Characters'- and added Tim's picture and story for those who might've missed the post it was originally in.

EDIT: I've also added the 3 recent sackperson drawings, the tiger portrait, the christmas gifts i made for my parents, and the 'Meerkat Wardance' drawing.

New art
'Ring-tailed Mongoose'
http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/013/6/8/ring_tailed_mongoose_by_ninjaferret22-d374hfp.png
This started off as anatomy practice, but i was so pleased with how it was turning out, that i decided to go all out with it and start coloring.
I've seriously been needing to practice drawing something other than ferrets and meerkats.

Despit their common name, Ring-tailed mongooses (http://www.arkive.org/malagasy-ring-tailed-mongoose/galidia-elegans/image-G32860.html) are not in the mongoose family. They belong to a family of strange (and taxonomically confusing) carnivores known as Eupleridae.

I got uber lazy with the background, and don't even ask what those little floating glowy things are... (for i, myself, am not even certain).
I drew it semi-realistically. (the eye is a little larger than it should be, and made the redness of it's fur more saturated than on a real ring-tailed mongoose )

'Species Developement: Kytorii (http://ninjaferret22.deviantart.com/art/Species-Developement-Kytorii-193471687)'

http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/014/0/3/species_developement__kytorii_by_ninjaferret22-d376rpj.png
I'm currently developing species to inhabit my little imaginary world, Bantoma.
This is one of them- the Kytorii (scientific name: Levis fulsi, which means 'light glow' in latin, or at least, i'm pretty sure it does xD)

Its messy.. but meh..
I'm soo tired.. X_x

Quite unique, it somehow, looks dramatic?

The merging of soft and hard strokes, the lighting; looks very good.

I'd like to use some of your animal pictures as a pillow I've always wanted to try drawing animals, but I haven't ever gotten to it. I might have to try that sometime soon. You've done a wonderful job drawing their fur. Your style shows alot of contrasting within your pictures, with the lines being very soft and light to hard and powerful. Keep up the good work!2011-01-17 02:25:00

I think you should go for it.
I really love your work, and would be very interested to see an animal drawn in your expressively sketchy style. (i've actually been meaning to post on your thread, but i could never really think of how to put all the good things i have to say about your art into a single post..lol)

Holy crud it's time for some aart.

'For The Love of Tacos (http://ninjaferret22.deviantart.com/art/For-The-Love-of-Tacos-194267703) '
http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/aageehazcqlmclgi.jpg

Because I (and my ferret fursona, Zilly) loove tacos.

'Pillow Weasel (http://ninjaferret22.deviantart.com/art/Pillow-Weasel-194266678) '

http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/aageehdzdpigobll.jpg
This is my little attempt at drawing an Altai weasel (http://www.arkive.org/altai-weasel/mustela-altaica/)in semi-realism. (my favorite species of weasel ever).
If it looks inaccurate in any way, its because I drew it by memory and without any reference.
Why exactly it's sliding down a pillow; i'm uncertain. I guess i just felt it looked cuter that way :3

(Also, sorry for the double-post.)

Anywho, here's yet another drawing of my ferret fursona, Zilly:
http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/021/7/b/gold_ferret_by_ninjaferret22-d37pkew.png
this was originally going to be a reference sheet for her, but it became...well.. something else.. xD
It's more of a surrealistic, stylized, semi-realistic portrait of her now, but i'm reasonably happy with how it turned out.
And not to mention, its shiney.:arg:

Soooo.. shineey... *drool*
