2 simple, but good ideas.

Basically, there are some things that annoy me about LBP, not massively, but a little irritating, so here are 2 suggestions for LBP2 (possibly even a patch in LBP) that would stop them irritating me

1. For levels that say 2 PLAYER ONLY, rather than that, why not put a lock on it which means you can only play it with 2 people, if you have 1, 3 or 4 then you can't access it. Why? Because I'm sure there are people who don't bother reading the description who try and play the level then give it a 1 star rating when they can't do anything at all. They could also put an 'at least 2 players' option, meaning 2 or more can join... etc

2. If you don't complete the level then you can't rate it. I notice levels that have poor ratings have often been completed by barely anyone, but played by alot, the level may well be god awful, granted, but it may also just be tricky, meaning people unleash their hate on the rating system when they can't complete it... Also, when I quit a level early and I'm asked to rate it, I always feel that I may be being unfair, or too genorous, having barely experienced the level...

2 simple ideas I would love to see in LBP2, or even LBP1!

A third idea...

3. Centre of gravity enhancement... thing.
No, I don't mean adjusting the strength of the gravity, more... how it acts... Say you have a circle of Dark Matter, if you place the Centre of Gravity enhancement in the middle of that circle, sackboy will be pulled toward it and will be able to stand up straight anywhere on the circle, you could adjust strength of this too and the are you get pulled in from... If you're finding this hard to understand, think super mario galaxy! :L

1. Already disscussed minimum player limit everyone said yes and at maximum limit it was quite random opinions
2. Sounds good, but keep in mind some levels that never end and you "complete level" hen you lose

1: Would be helpful

2: Seeing as Stars are now gone, I'd suspect this wouldn't be an issue

@Tommy012345 Wait... who said they were gone? MMs doing some changes in LBP so they had to take them down for a bit, but they will return and they will be in LBP2.2010-08-25 02:12:00

I remember reading that they were replacing it with a Like/Dislike system

(I suppose you could still tell how many stars it has, just by looking at the Likeislike ratio?)

Problem with 2:

My level gets rated 5 stars and appears on highest rated. I then remove the scoreboard.

That means it can't be completed and therefore can't be rated again.

There one thing i'm wondering about LBP2 - can you end the level in what ever way you like, or will it have to be a scoreboard?

I'd love a little device that simple sends you back to pod, for games where score is not an issue...

I think that those players' ratings, who didn't complete the level, weigh less in the ratings, but still matter somehow.
Idea number 1 is great, but the max players limitation would probably cause a thumbs-down mega voting in those who don't read anything, anywhere in the game...

...unless there's a clear icon in the level's seal about the number of players allowed?

Oh right, did't realise that the first idea may be being implemented, thumbs up from me!

As for the second idea, I do see your point in that some people could cheat the system... but levels being rated down simply for being too hard shouldn't happen, then again, I suppose it's down to the people who play it, you've just got to hope they're fair...

Adding a third idea now, which is more to do with gameplay

Im pretty sure idea #1 is actually in there. I remember quite vividly some video where they didn't talk about it, but accidentally showed something about it in some menu. I can't remember what video it was, or what else was in the video, but I do remember this very clearly.

As for #2, i couldn't agree more. Everything you said was spot on.

Ah, the third idea seems SO wanted... there's a way to recreate it for objects, probably...
But why not?

So they're going the Youtube path eh? Ugh.

Maybe because Like/Dislike it's more compatible with other services, like Facebook (who practically started this system)2010-08-26 01:05:00

Not sure I like the sound of the like/ dislike thing... I dislike it, I suppose.

Purely because this wouldnt solve the problem I mentioned at all, hard levels, would just be disliked rather than 1 - starred... and there would be no way to filter out the truly outstanding levels from the pretty good ones...

on the centre of gravity idea. i was wondering if you could use the sequencer to deliberately fluctuate the amount of pull/repel. this could be used to make some pretty weird effects2010-08-26 20:35:00

i agree with tommy, i thought they were just giving the options for thumbs up or down? the same as youtube.

Like/dislike will be far better. The problem with any star rating on the internet is that most people rate to try and bring the average to what they think it should be, so they usually vote either 1 star if they think the current rating is too high or 5 stars if they think it's too low. There's no point having the ratings in the middle because few people actually choose them.2010-08-26 20:58:00

That's such a good point, that I now agree the like / dislike system is better!
because I do that with the star system, if I play one of those 'LOL OMGZ HARDEST LVL EVA CAN U ACE' levels that's (for some reason) rated 4 stars, I always put 1 star, not because I always think tahts what it should be, but because I think 4 stars is waaaay too high.

And, I suppose that you could still tell what levels are spectacular with the hearted system, assuming they keep that in.

And Cliffbo, I too, think that woul dbe very interesting, and you could make it so it switches gravity on a timer... so you have to avoid hazards on both the floor and ceiling! Mental.

there is such thing as an "end level switch" which i suppose teleports all players to the scoreboard, but as far as teleporting to the pod i dont think so

So, will LBP2 have a like/dislike system or 6-star rating?

if it was me, I'd choose a 7-star meter. For the reason Nuclearfish pointed out; people try to bring the rating closer to the average they want.
7 Stars give it out more "easily" than the like/dislike ratio to me...

...or maybe not...

Why 7 star? Just out of interest, I'm guessing theres a specific reason :L

I think it should remain the 5 star system, but you can rate 4.5 stars and such... so basically a 10 start system :L

Well, 5 stars IS more compact.., but no less than 0.5 stars, otherwise it will become messy...2010-08-29 14:02:00

I'd like to simply Not rate when i feel unsure how i feel about the level i just played...
i hate how it forces you to do it, T_T unless you just turn off your ps3 to avoid it
but i don't think anyone would do that just to avoid a rate, *mew

hmm not sure its needed to force others to leave a level thats one/two etc players only
me and my friends all the time go in to levels that are one player knowingly because
no one is going to leave just to play a level, happens all the time
if the level stop working because of this we don't rate the level bad
we just rate whatever it puts us on after we leave. *mew
