Magic Mouths are back?
Archive: 13 posts
I was watching this video (which I recommend to watch) http://www.viddler.com/explore/oyungezer/videos/509/ At 5:30 when Victoria starts to speak it doesnt have the black border and the subtitles like it does in the other videos, and you can hear a something that sounds like the baby talk in LBP1 when you use a Magic Mouth and Dave seems to have like a old man voice but you cant make out the words.Maybe the sound isnt that good on the video but maybe you cant record voices all the time. Can someone help? | 2010-08-24 17:43:00 Author: Unknown User |
Actually, the Magic Mouths have never been removed The black borders and the subtitles appear when you use the cut-scene camera. And I guess you can record voices for magic mouths as well, why not ! | 2010-08-24 17:55:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
Moving this to the appropriate subforum. | 2010-08-24 18:00:00 Author: schm0 Posts: 1239 |
I hope the ONLY way you can record voices is for cutscenes. To be honest I don't think they're really needed elsewhere. I don't want to listen to character's talking whilst I'm trying to PLAY a level. If the dialogue is important enough to record a voice then I'm going to want to stop and listen/watch anyway. | 2010-08-24 18:03:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
No, Magic mouths are NOT returning. (Magic mouths never left, thus cannot return. ) That has not been confirmed thus is mere speculation about voice recording only on cut-scenes. . Most likely they weren't talking after cut-scenes and using the magic mouths then because that was actual gameplay, thus allowing you to re-read stuff if needed, and so its still quite possible voice recording is possible in game. @Nuclearfish: Keep in mind its actually called "sound recorder" not "voice recorder."Its not only to record voices, but to record vaious sounds to use on the levels. | 2010-08-24 18:17:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
They never left... but unfortunately my rats did... oops sorry. But yeah, i agree with nuclearfish that we can only have voices in cutscenes. But, i think that wont be the case. | 2010-08-24 18:38:00 Author: TNSv Posts: 302 |

Done right, having a person speak while you play could be very nice. Especially in horror levels. | 2010-08-24 19:13:00 Author: Melfice Posts: 269 |
I think your recordings will be placed like the sound objects are, and I hope I'm not wrong  | 2010-08-24 19:31:00 Author: lifeiscrapislife Posts: 396 |
Voice recordings only in cut scenes? That would suck! I mean, i wanna be able to make a fun level with voiced sound effects. BIG mistake by MM if they do that. | 2010-08-24 20:10:00 Author: dr_murk Posts: 239 |

I can understand how gameplay might be ruined by a constant narration, but (as Mm have probably used) story-based levels (games) may require it? Take Avalon for example - we've yet to see this, but it seems that during your time in the "Mecha-Bunny" , he is guiding you along the way (on his very cool hoverboard!) In some cases, it could be easier to use them instead of magic mouths - so if you attach a Mag. key to the Mecha-Bunny, and make it so when you drive into electricity, he'd say (Through keys being turned on) "Be careful", rather than a magic mouth pop up! | 2010-08-24 21:19:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
I think they used sound recording for both. In cut-scenes they talk, in gameplay they literally squarble (like in Banjo Kazooie). It just makes it funnier and easier. .. I think. | 2010-08-25 00:01:00 Author: Cheezy WEAPON Posts: 283 |

What, you don't want comphermc to have epic GLaDOS-ish random comments to his Aperture saga? (/ that isn't suggesting he does so, just a thought /) | 2010-08-25 16:44:00 Author: Unknown User |
Magic Mouths were always there, MM said they were going for full backwards compatability. http://i.neoseeker.com/mgv/272671-Blackfalcon/671/5/animal0064hb2_display.gif | 2010-08-25 17:27:00 Author: Blackfalcon Posts: 409 |
