3d Worlds?

Archive: 34 posts

I was wondering, do you think you would be able to create 3d worlds?i mean like....lets say the GDC and vids on youtube, it shows the LBP characters running around but its only right and left like when you play 2d mario, welll of course i know you can go up ramps and farther. What i am asking is do you think you will be able to create levels in LBP where you can run around in like 3d places?2007-07-03 13:16:00

I think at least for this first game, they'll probably stick to just the side to side view. Maybe in their next game? It could be called LittleBigUniverse or something. LittleBigGalaxy?

the devs seems to want to keep it as simple and customizable. So no, 2d only, but hey its more fun that way...2007-07-04 00:01:00

I could actually see the game being really fun in 3d. There are even more possibilites for customization, but they need to do a good job to make it just as easy to work with.2007-07-15 00:02:00

hm, u should play garrys mod, their u have ya 3d-world, and it sucks -.-(i like the mod, but not for creating funny levels)
i wanna create levels, not worlds...makeing levels with correct physics so everyone can get through them is hard enough in "2-d" or lbp (side-scroller with different layers).

i think its a great idea to have 3d levels. i mean not like MASSIVE oblivion/san andreas openness, but have the option. id like it better if we were able to choose to make a 2d or 3d level, and even if i never used it, it be nice to have there for my money. i think were gonno be blown away. They have so much time to polish a game thats already blown everyoens minds when conceived only this march!2007-07-16 22:59:00

If they made this game 3D it would take away alot of the simplicity behind the game that is part of what makes it so amazing.

In a 3D world it would take a long time to create a level with the same sort of gameplay as what they are offering at the moment.

I think that it would all just get a little too complex.

But then again i said the same thing when GTA III came out. I thought that they wouldn't be able to make it 3D and keep the gameplay as good as it was before. i was majorly wrong on that one. Making the game 3D made it so freekin good i cried with happiness when i bought it .

I'm kind of undecided. On one hand 3d games have a lot more potential to make cool levels, but it would be harder to make the levels. But I don't think it would be as hard as everyone is saying.

I think I just have to play LBP first and then we'll see from there.

Well this game isn't exactly 2D either. There is depth to the items.2007-07-17 23:18:00

That is true but all the physics are 2D. This means when you build a tank or something you will only have to put wheels on one side of the tank. The other side is irrelevant, as it cant tip over. It can tip left or right but not towards you or away from you.

Its more like a multii layered 2D world. If you get what i mean. You can jump from one layer to another by using up or down.

its a mod for half life 2 (my fav pc-game bcuz it has got an awesome physics engine within the source engine(havok2 engine) and the creator opens all the possibilities the game brought with it which u cant imagine by just playin the normal halflife 2 game. Im using it to let dozens of rebels fight against aliens or combine soldiers or i build stuff like a canon just by using dynamite, a pipe and a ball....with my new pc i can create a few hundred npcs and the framerate is still good, as long as AI. is disabled . Garrys mod is funny and i was very amazed when i played it first 2 or 3 years ago, but it hasnt got the share or the cooperative part - of course u can go online and build up structures together with other players or just throw a massive wall onto ya buddies, but there isnt a real goal or something and thats why i see lbp as a next step (i dont blame garry for that, he did/does a great job, but the normal half life 2 isnt planned to be a create-game and so its not possible to bring the feeling of lbp to a first person shooter)
if u want to play garrys mod u need to have half life 2...

here u see some vids
YouTube - Garry's Mod 10 Promo
YouTube - Half Life 2 (Garry's Mod) Catapult Tutorial (Catapult Tutorial)

In a 3d-world, u would see 2 well created maps a month and many people would get rid of creatin anything because its to complicated....i think 2d with multiple layers is a great idea.... build ya own sidescroller level/game(?)

Thats freakin mad. I just saw this one where a guy built this huge walking castle monster thing. And a guy built a jet hover board like in "Back to the future". It was mad.:eek:2007-07-18 02:11:00

btw: the source engine has got water, but of course only groundwater which doesnt float around(as ive said floating water cant be calculated in realtime nowadays) ... it has got very nice water shaders, the sounds are also as u would expect under water, but the physics of course just change a bit....like in water

the source engine hasnt got flexi-shapes, which give lbp a very friendly and soft note....(is that the right word?) and it hasnt got such a clean physics engine(okay, with explosions and such things a 100 percent clean calculation of physics isnt possible) where no objects move into each other, but thats because its just a mod and valve didnt program the game to make it possible for everyone to play with the physics. ....

I am sure if they don't put water this time they will have it in LBPII or something like that. I lik ethat it is 2D because it keeps things simple. Its good for me cos i dont have heaps of time to spend creating 3D levels.2007-07-18 02:36:00

thats what i wanted u to say

yes, ive also thought about it for part 2...there are many ideas in this forum which would make a second part needless if they would be realise in lbp(1)

Thats very true.

also if they make the game well enough in the beginning we will just be able to download updates to add those sorts of things in. Which is totally possible. Then they wouldn't have to make a second LBP until they want to completely remake it.

I agree, if the game were in 3D, I don't think I would want to buy it. That's where the charm of the game lies, in the simplistic, old-skool 2d gameplay. It would be way too complex in 3d. I don't even want to think about it... lol

LBP...FTW!!!

The left and right motion I believe is called side scrolling.

Mario was a Side Scroller Game !

! ... I think it would be neat to have somethign like super paper mario for the wii where you can flip back and forth ... *-)

In an interview with the producer he said the game won't be fully 3d because your sister/grandma ect, couldn't play the game as easily.2007-09-16 18:29:00

I think it's best to keep the game in 2D. Although you have three levels of 3D on the game in case you need it.2008-08-02 21:46:00
