Little Big Planet 2D (Fangame)
Archive: 134 posts
I am currently working on a fangame based off my favorite game. Little Big Planet. It will include most of the features that the original little big planet had including; Create mode, online multiplayer, physics, and the ability to customize almost everything in the game. It will be for the PC and i will post new updates on my website, twitter, or youtube page. Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/tristanjmnz Twitter: http://twitter.com/lbp2d Website (Not Finished): http://www.wix.com/tristanjmnz/littlebigplanet2d Forum: http://z15.invisionfree.com/Little_Big_Planet_2D/index.php? I hope you join the forum, or just keep track of the progress of this game. | 2010-08-22 00:00:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |
1. Isn't there some copyright issues here? 2. What's the point of a 2D dumbed-down version if all of us here have the full littlebigplanet? It sounds interesting, but that's because we've all played it before. Try focusing your creative energy on something new and exciting! A whole new game. | 2010-08-22 00:15:00 Author: littlebigmeteor Posts: 396 |

Im not sure. 2. Well, for the fun of having it on your PC. Its like saying why get little big planet psp . There will be some new stuff in the fangame its not just a remake of lbp its more of an unofficial sequel. | 2010-08-22 00:42:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |
well if its 2d that means only 1 layer so the create mode would be useless to me | 2010-08-22 01:05:00 Author: buddy_hamster123 Posts: 376 |
The selling point of the PSP version was that it was portable. PC's are mounted as PS3's, and I'm sure we'd much rather go sit and play the PS3 version. | 2010-08-22 15:27:00 Author: littlebigmeteor Posts: 396 |
I think it's a really good idea and you should definitely keep working on it. The only flaw I can see is the copyright... You might need to change the name but otherwise, Good job for taking up such a big project. | 2010-08-22 18:28:00 Author: Sage Posts: 2068 |
Call it Big Little Planet! Or is that too similar... Oh well, I'm sure you'll find a way around it. | 2010-08-22 18:31:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |

Thanks for the replys, at first based on my first two replys i didn't think this would be such a good hit with the lbpcentral community. There is a lot that has been added since the new videos, but i haven't quite got around to making videos, so if you want some pictures you could add me on my msn, which is trisjimenez@live.com | 2010-08-23 21:34:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |
Nice project you have there!!!! I can't wait to see how it comes out!!!! | 2010-08-23 21:51:00 Author: shadow3596 Posts: 2442 |

I have decided to make a beta for my fangame littlebigplanet 2D for people to test and enjoy. The bad thing is, that i had posted a video on it and it hasnt gotten any attention at all. Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btpqb-db61k Just in case you cant see annotations on here. The rules have changed, you simply just have to comment, and i'll pick comments at random to send betas. Hopefully showing you guys here will get this more buzz, because i am working my butt off making this game, and i don't want all this hard work to go to waste. | 2010-10-04 02:38:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

Wow...I definitely want in on this. It looks AMAZING! I have a question though, do you think there would be something such as level sharing at any point? Yes their will be a level sharing, i just need to add a database, on which the levels will be uploaded too. or multiplayer. just a thought. sees the maker get angry and start coming at me with a bat o darn *starts hitting you with bat* lol jk. Actually multiplayer is planned for this. Create mode would be pointless without it .:3 | 2010-10-08 02:08:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

so when do you think you can have it done by can you just send the story mode or are you having the thing the problem to all Maybe around the time LBP2 comes out. Maybe later. I'm not sure. And the story mode is not made yet, because the create mode isn't finished and the story will be created in the create mode like media molecule made lbp's story mode. | 2010-10-08 02:36:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

call it big planet little then you can Copyright laws aren't that simple, otherwise people would just copy whatever and change the name a little to not get in trouble....wouldn't be good. :S | 2010-10-09 02:37:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
I am making Tutorials in game similiar to the ones in lbp. And the forums thing is a pretty nifty idea. Also, I dont plan on changing the name simply to make money off it, because i think that i shouldnt get payed, im just showing my love and admiration for mediamolecule's Little Big Planet. | 2010-10-09 02:47:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

Wait, you still have to do work for the beta instead of just subscribing? No, those were the original rules. They are changed now to just subscribing. And random comments on the beta info, will be chosen to choose official beta testers of my team ( meaning you would get a new beta every other week or so) | 2010-10-09 03:19:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

you mean... something like this: http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/4013/littlebigplanet.png Whoa, whoa.. Where did the 8-bit LBP come from? That's pretty well done. As for this project, here's my two cents: Very interesting concept, but as has been previously brought up, it seems to have its limitations. First of all, the lack of three layers would make create mode basically turn into a playable, animated version of MSPaint. Also, in regards your video, your "thermo" seems to be almost a quarter gone after having no more than what appears to be a checkpoint, a sensor, a mover, and an emitter in a small, rectangular room. Extrapolation from this data would suggest that an object of any amount of considerable complexity would simply murder your thermometer. What made create mode in ACTUAL Little Big Planet so workable was how much effort MM put into making sure everything was processed as efficiently as possible. (IE, multiples of identical objects take less thermo, thermo is broken up into sub-thermos, etc..) Not trying to poo-poo the idea (which is VERY novel, and quite impressive), but it seems that any reproduction of LBP by anybody BUT a team of hard-working, creative-minded individuals such as MM would simply fall short of the original, and with LBP2 around the corner, what're people more likely to play? That being said, great work on what you've got. It sounds interesting, but that's because we've all played it before. Try focusing your creative energy on something new and exciting! A whole new game. This is good advice; you've obviously got some talent, try putting it towards an original idea! | 2010-11-10 15:12:00 Author: jdteather314 Posts: 74 |

And i do have a team of briliant minded individuals. Also, the thermometer isnt actually limited to the processing of the objects.. I set the limit myself. I purposely made it so low, because it is so early in the game. And a lot of the objects dont like working together yet. Also, It does not only have 1 layer. It has 3, its just that 1 is walkable. It make it more simpler, and easier to play on on a 2d game... The game is in no way limited besides the 3d. And i have only been working on this game for a short amount of time. Much more is planned for the game including; Online Gameplay, Publishing Levels, Story Mode, Music Creator, Animation Creator, and much more... | 2010-11-10 23:56:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |
Hey Tristan, I'll start recording some videos now of the beta. The quality's pretty good, but even though it says it's HD a lot of the text said by a sackperson or like the settings for something probably won't be possible to read.(at least most of it) | 2010-11-11 00:16:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |

looks pretty awesome ,make sure you tells us when its out and will it work on macs? Thanks. When it's out, i'll make a new topic about it's release. I will also make a video up on youtube on my channel. Regarding your Mac question, The game creating software makes windows exectubles only. I have gotten a couple of requests for a mac version, so im considering rather looking around for a way to export it as a mac format or just instructions on how to run it on a mac using a program that imitates the PC. | 2010-11-13 05:30:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |
Truthfully. I do believe it is possible to do this, but, it isn't a two- or three month deal, not even a five month knod of thing. This kind of project should be worked over for at least a year. That a way you can make sure you get all of the bugs, you can efficiencize the thermo, and make sure the whole game looks good. Plus, the animation for your sackperson looks kinda.... weird. it should look more attached to the sackperson. and, The popit should look a bit smoother too. thats all i have to say currently. | 2010-11-13 06:39:00 Author: flamesterart Posts: 585 |

Trust me, i know its not gonna be done for a while. I have already been working on this game for like 4 months, 1 year if you count its cancelled predecessor Little BIG Fangame, Thanks for your feedback. A lot of your problems have been fixed recently though. Sackboy has gone through some graphical, animation, movement makeover and works pretty nicely. My plan is to work on this game for about 5-7 more months. Hopefully less, but it's better to set your hopes down. So you don't dissapoint people, when you cant make your date. *cough* Mm *Cough*. lol. | 2010-11-13 09:49:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |
Hi here's a LBP "fan created game" made by an ordinary gamer like you and me, I will not give the beta away but I will say the release should be sometime this summer And also lets help get him some more views, right now it's only at 121 views Full Online Included!!!!! GREAT THING: Can be used with PS3 controller http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFULQW_G6jE | 2011-01-06 04:01:00 Author: chinook3 Posts: 453 |
Wow, for a .532 version, that's pretty nice, I can see that becoming huge one day, but that's in the future, I would like to see other things it does besides let you create in that small room. | 2011-01-06 04:23:00 Author: Merc Posts: 2135 |

DLC?.... Thermometer? XD are you serious? You making open not high-end PC game! Oh and you really need to work on effect, electrification looks... i don't know how to describe it. electrification should be shoed as texture on material But it look good just need polishing . Also you better pray that MM/Sony won't get you for breaking copyright | 2011-01-06 13:52:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |

I'm pretty sure this has been posted before but I have no idea where so meh... Oh, and does it have reel watrz!!1!!1 I don't actually see any evidence of a physics engine here, so a decent water simulation is probably off the cards... | 2011-01-06 14:49:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
I don't actually see any evidence of a physics engine here, so a decent water simulation is probably off the cards... Yeah, I had assumed so. Would be great if he managed to pull it off though, and he might be trying to, seeing as he does have the bubble machine and the water switch in the tools bag. | 2011-01-06 14:53:00 Author: RJA00000 Posts: 387 |

is there any way we can stop being 'reviewers' for a minute and just realize that this is a fanmade game by ONE regular guy that's barely getting off the ground? it's like you're watching a flash cartoon and wondering why it doesn't look like advent children & beowulf. | 2011-01-06 19:40:00 Author: Unknown User |
Well i just saying this game forgetting that it's on PC. DLC - thats not even part of game, but console, i don't why it's needed there? he makes freeware software he don't need to sell DLC? XD Thermometer - Well his code may be slow but as a PC game same code can handle more on better PC, so i don't see point of thermometer there Thats 2 major things i see as something wrong in this game | 2011-01-06 20:37:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
i think he just has it as a placeholder to feel like LBP visually, unless i didn't bother to read something. if he's selling DLC it'll be shut down with a cease and desist order. | 2011-01-06 20:49:00 Author: Unknown User |
For DLC, it'll all be free. From what I understand he'll give it out, and the currency would be posts on his forum or something. And of course he'll give out stuff or something. So yeah. It'll all be free of course, he's not that stupid | 2011-01-06 20:59:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
Ofcorse he won't sell it ^^ but he don't even need any DLC, since it's freeware all stuff can be in the game by default Imo he tries mimic game too much that he even mimic DLC that is not actually needed thing, LBP got DLC just because it's console game and thats how marketing works there It's strangest approach of freeware game i ever seen | 2011-01-06 21:20:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |

I'm not trying to make money off this or meh, dont even care about the fame either. And about the DLC, it is simply to have costumes and levels, being made long after i release the game. More of an incentive to keep people playing. It's not just for the content itself. | 2011-01-07 01:12:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |
I'm pretty sure this has been posted before but I have no idea where so meh... I don't actually see any evidence of a physics engine here, so a decent water simulation is probably off the cards... Their is a physics engine, i just havent showed it because its very buggy atm. And with water. Their will be water.. but nothing amazing. Just buoyancy of objects. | 2011-01-07 01:16:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

I signed up for the LBP2D forums, so I can suggest dlc ideaz It probably wont come that soon, but yeah i noticed you signed up. You never validated your email. Their has been an event that has opened my eyes on how untrustworthy people could be sometimes. A certain someone *cough* lbpisawespme *cough* leaked my "closed" beta to everyone on little big network. Now that i know, that i cant trust certain people, I'm not going to have a beta anymore. You can thank him for that decision . You guys, sadly, will have to wait till its release. I dont want another event like this to happen again. * Their will also be a lot more security on the full version * | 2011-01-08 09:16:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

Imo you should complitly freeze the physics during pause mode This game is simply just a tribute, to thank Media Molecule. More of an incentive to keep people playing. It's not just for the content itself. Aa i said, i know you won't sell it or else you want to commit suicide, it simply makes me fell that you consider DLC one of main part of game. Keep in mind that PC is compliantly different environment, fully opened to do whatever you want and when you do free game it's even more open, like ability manipulate resorces by the users, ability to update whole game at once and so on, word "DLC" is something that not fit to that and i didn't see any freeware PC game to use that term, which feels strange XD | 2011-01-08 13:28:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
Sucks about your leak that's pretty crappy tbh. New Video! A simple physics test to prove that physics are in the game. And yes their is REAL WATORz in the game... It's just not done yet. What are you actually using for the physics, if you don't mind me asking? Is it an existing engine or something proprietary? It feels like the objects are coming to rest at the wrong times at some points in the video above - notably when the block is at an angle at around (0:11) and subsequently gets pushed. I recently coded up a simple water buoyancy simulation extension for Box2D, mimicking LBP's reel wartorz. It was basic bouyancy model, with linear and rotational drag, and variable water level, density and viscosity. If you've got the rigid body dynamics down, the water shouldn't be much of a problem - my sim took about 3 days of actual coding, though the rotational drag ended up a bit wonky. | 2011-01-08 14:29:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

And whoah.. commit suicide? I think that statement was a bit much, dont you think? I think he meant in regards to your game He doesn't speak english perfectly, so I'm pretty sure he just meant a suicide business tactic... as in that you know that selling this would kill the project. Not yourself. But yep, tristan, I think you should make some sort of checklist of stuff in the game or something. Yeah. :kz: | 2011-01-09 21:35:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |

Game looks good, and I can't wait for the beta , but just two questions - 1. Are the sackbots going to be able to do anything (Follow you, attack you, flee etc.)? 2. Is the finished game going to have more clothes for 2D-Sackboy to wear? Im happy I clicked this thread, and I hope you have time to to answer my questions!! P.S My YouTube is Ibbyparrot. I can't get it to work, it says "Cannot load Joystick2.mfx. This object might need an external program or library not yet installed.". Am I doing something wrong? Try updating/downloading DirectX. that extension has problems with directx for some reason. Just downloaded it! It's funny *still playing around with it* I found a few bugs, though Should I post them here? You can, but the beta wasnt really for bug testing. As you can see, there are billions of bugs. Its just to give people a little taste, and see if they think i should continue the project. No Linux version me no play .... at least for now ;] EDIT: On other hand i could try to run it on Wine and report you how it works on it. You can try, but some of the extensions might not work when on linux.. but im not sure. | 2011-02-19 19:25:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

Little Big Planet 2D is now cancelled. I’d like to note that this is in no way an April Fools joke. Thanks to some tests of wareflash on real mmf2 by a friend.. The official version of MMF2 that i had was disabled. So, now i can’t even open the source for Little Big Planet 2D. And obviously if i can’t open the file i cant work on it. The only way i can get this game up and running again, is if i earn 120 dollars in donations to re-buy Multimedia Fusion 2. And I know you guys, don’t like donating.. So.. LBP2D probably won’t be able to come back up again. So, well.. LBP2D has been a big mistake. I’ve wasted 80 dollars for nothing on just this project alone. *Copied from website* | 2011-04-02 09:32:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

It's fine. I'm working on a new game that I'm trying to make similar to LBP2D. But more original, and no copyright infringement. I hope you guys check that out. | 2011-07-17 20:28:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

"New" game. The game is called Project Float, and ISN'T a LBP fangame. It will just have similar aspects to it, like customization of your character, a sandbox mode. But besides that, it will be an original game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58nHxx6Ypes See? | 2011-07-17 20:47:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |

I wish somebody would make something like this for Android. Cordy is the closest I know of, but there is no create mode in Cordy. Since this game is being made in Multimedia Fusion 2, which has an android exporter for sale.. I could make it for android, but that would cost me quite some money. I'll have to rely on sales of my other game or maybe later set up some crowdfunding to help purchase that. | 2013-04-30 20:41:00 Author: Tristanjmnz Posts: 70 |
