The Azure Palace (interviewed by Veronica Belmont on Qore!)

Woot! First thread! The Azure Palace creator: me (PSN - gevurah22) Location: Off the coast of Florida http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure24.jpg Summary: The basis of the stage is to acquire the Azure Key and unlock the Underwater Palace's secret treasure. You have to have the Key with you at all times considering it not only unlocks passages and is necessary for puzzles, but it provides both offense and defense for... you know... giant underwater beasts. =D Highlights: - Totally "underwater" - Key based gameplay for simple puzzling, offense and defense - Wield an awesome blade - Use said blade against the final underwater dragon for EPIC battles Update: 11/12/08 - Now with better multiplayer support (those without the key can use shields to help protect the key bearer) Youtube YBxahZljFMs Pics: http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure11.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure12.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure13.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure14.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure15.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure16.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure18.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure17.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure19.jpg Hope y'all like it. I put a lot of work into this and I'm hoping you'll enjoy what I've put out as I think it's significantly different from what you guys will be playing out there. BTW, it's published! | 2008-10-21 01:22:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Wow, this looks sweet! I can't wait to try it out! | 2008-10-21 01:24:00 Author: Unknown User |
Dude, I love you. Could you add me to your PSN? lol I'd love to test your levels for you. Are you using templates? Also, I assume that blood effect is from a sticker? It looks so good, so mystical... Anyways, you might wanna put those pics in spoiler tags just in case somebody doesn't want to see them yet. | 2008-10-21 01:31:00 Author: Unknown User |

Anyways, you might wanna put those pics in spoiler tags just in case somebody doesn't want to see them yet. Nope, all from scratch. No templates. And the blood effect is from the red splatter sticker. | 2008-10-21 01:35:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Is that worm hanging from the ceiling an object!?! lol How did you change the title of the spoiler? | 2008-10-21 01:40:00 Author: Unknown User |
Is that worm hanging from the ceiling an object!?! lol It's one huge sea dragon alright. Just like my other dragon. http://www.daviddino.com/lbppso6.jpg :hero: How did you change the title of the spoiler? You do this. "spoiler=..." Just change the quotes to brackets and replace the ... with anything you want. | 2008-10-21 01:47:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Brilliant work again donkey show, loved your work in the Beta and really looking forward to this level when the game is released here. Cheers QuozL | 2008-10-21 01:56:00 Author: QuozL Posts: 921 |
Nice, man. By the way, shouldn't this be in Level Showcase? | 2008-10-21 02:02:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |
This looks amazing mate. I haven't played your other level cuz I never had the beta, but that level and this one(if you're finished by then) will probably be some of the first ones I play. It looks to be shaping up even better than your last | 2008-10-21 02:10:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |
Nice, man. By the way, shouldn't this be in Level Showcase? Well, I had thought that was for completed creations. This is nowhere close to being finished. | 2008-10-21 02:15:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
lol. When I was talking about the worm, I was talking about the first picture and in the top left corner. | 2008-10-21 02:27:00 Author: Unknown User |

Are you sure? It likes like a big, shiny, slimy worm to me. LOL! yeah me too but if you made that dragon i would like to come visit you when we have create mode online up so you could give me a nice tutorial on these awesome enemies and then we could do some enemy building for fun P.S. or you could just post some tutorials as videos so you do not have to do the private tutorials, but if you wanted you could still do them but i think tutorials would be great for you to do since you know a lot about enemies Cheers! | 2008-10-21 03:57:00 Author: RAINFIRE Posts: 1101 |

Looking good. Are you satisfied with how the jetpack imitates swimming? A lot of challenges in making an 'underwater' level, hope it all turns out great. It's pretty neat. You just have to let the player understand that they must be connected at all times. It definitely adds to the level design in a way because you commit them to one plane only versus being on the ground where they can switch freely. | 2008-10-22 00:35:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

One of the best levels I've seen so far. Mind if I showcase it on the main page? It really does look great and is showing what can be done with the full game. LBP | 2008-10-22 15:04:00 Author: lbp Posts: 423 |
One of the best levels I've seen so far. Mind if I showcase it on the main page? It really does look great and is showing what can be done with the full game. LBP Please do! BTW, the end of this stage should prove pretty interesting if I have enough thermometer to do it. xD Thanks everyone! ^^ Creating atmosphere is so much easier with all the retail stuff. I expect good things from everyone now. =P | 2008-10-22 15:06:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
OMG i am loving the look of all ur levels! i saw the vids online of the phantasy level with ur uber awesome dragon. i was sad that i couldn't find ur level once i had the beta. cant wait to get the full game because i had fun creating even just some simple creatures! you definately should get some tutorials up, i would watch them... | 2008-10-22 16:35:00 Author: cocojen Posts: 90 |
THAT IS INCREDIBLE I was going to do an underwater level with the jetpack, but it was going to be more happy and stuff. Hopefully, it'll be as awesome as that one. Nice work. | 2008-10-23 00:29:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |
I'm jealous of your creativity, to some art classes! *Batman weird noise entered here* No seriously, you have some real talent and I will definately favorite you for the great levels, glad to see someone will be making some gems | 2008-10-23 00:43:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
Wow that looks so good!! I can't wait til the servers go up, I'd love to have a go of that. The lighting is gorgeous on it. How long has it took you to get to where you are now on it? I never know where to start with mine. It scares me. | 2008-10-23 01:06:00 Author: Yana Posts: 134 |

I never know where to start with mine. It scares me. Well, I've been working on it since... last Friday? 6 to 8 hours here and there after some 12 hour work days, but progress is being made. I thought I was going to start on the boss stuff today, but no go. More tweaking to the rest of the stage needs to be done before I can even think about that. But I had some pretty twisted ideas at work, so I'm hoping to apply them in here. For example, if you don't make it to the altar with Azure Key... Well let's just say you don't want to do that. Anyway, the life of a career man is hard work. Wish I was still in school so I could cut classes and do this instead. XD | 2008-10-23 01:33:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Start with an Entry Gate. Cheeky!! It will be interesting to see what your boss is like, I'm definitely gonna keep checking back here daily. | 2008-10-23 02:48:00 Author: Yana Posts: 134 |

that is simply fantastic. Just the work on the dragon must have taken for ever. But his whole level is so complitcated and seamless...It is really fantastic...Looking anyway. | 2008-10-23 03:06:00 Author: chiropractor345 Posts: 161 |

Have you tried making the dragon fly yet? | 2008-10-23 14:22:00 Author: Unknown User |
Very very nice. Really cool game design elements, the azure key is a fantastic idea. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see the final version! Anyway, the life of a career man is hard work. Wish I was still in school so I could cut classes and do this instead. XD I feel you. I can imagine I'll be spending a lot of time at work figuring out how to make that one thing work in a level. 8) | 2008-10-23 14:54:00 Author: Linque Posts: 607 |
Have you tried making the dragon fly yet? Underwater, they swim... not fly. =P It's already good to go btw. Setting it up for the epic finale is almost finished. | 2008-10-23 16:46:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Absolutely love this level; it seems up to Mm levels of quality and am looking forward to seeing the final product. An idea for the underwater section is to rather than have many jetpacks, just have 1 and increase the tether. Just an idea. | 2008-10-23 18:07:00 Author: floor3013 Posts: 287 |
Absolutely outstanding. There's not a doubt in my mind that you'll be one of the most respected and best level creators out there. I even played your Bestiary level before you joined xD It was awesome, but I got stuck on the dragon xD | 2008-10-23 18:54:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |
Absolutely love this level; it seems up to Mm levels of quality and am looking forward to seeing the final product. An idea for the underwater section is to rather than have many jetpacks, just have 1 and increase the tether. Just an idea. Well, it's limited in order to decrease the area of exploration. Granted it might sound counter-productive, having too many of them breaks some of the tense moments and puzzles in the game. But I will add a few more here and there to ease up some of the exploration involved. I even played your Bestiary level before you joined xD It was awesome, but I got stuck on the dragon xD LOL, it was never meant to be defeated. Glad y'all like where this is headed though. I assure you the underwater dragon is going to be much more interesting than the last one I made. Since I have a day off (thank you non-regular hospital hours), I'm pretty much stress testing the entire movement and battle sequences. Pardon my language but this **** is going to be intense. xD | 2008-10-23 19:02:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Pretty light show (which are all dangerous, btw). http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure7.jpg Still stress testing the dragon boss for my stage. Needless to say, it's pretty cool in how you battle it. I should be hopefully done by late tonight. And of course, the youtube to half the stage: -4n8PJEarSI I'm way further than what's been recorded though. | 2008-10-24 04:10:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Great level. I can't wait to play it. :hero: | 2008-10-24 04:47:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
I love how you have to pull that stone animal tooth onto the switch at the beginning, the blood and stuff adds a creepy kinda feeling to it. I didn't notice that before! By the way donkey show I was going to ask, am I okay to add you on my PSN so I can easily find your level when the servers come on? | 2008-10-24 15:24:00 Author: Yana Posts: 134 |
ur levels are hyping me up again for the game! | 2008-10-24 15:30:00 Author: muttjones Posts: 843 |

By the way donkey show I was going to ask, am I okay to add you on my PSN so I can easily find your level when the servers come on? Please do. ^^ I've also pretty much finished all the base stuff in the game from the different endings to the final battle. I'm just cleaning up the rest of the stuff now and adding those finishing touches. BTW, where in the UK are you from? | 2008-10-24 17:15:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Woot, thanks for the move! Anyway, I'm really close to finishing. I'm a sliver away from filling up the thermometer, so I'm cutting here and there while still trying to add pretty stuff to the stage. Anyway, I leave with y'all with a couple pics I took earlier near the end of the stage. http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure8.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure9.jpg Okay, so you get a beefy sword as a reward for bringing back the Azure Key to it's rightful place... but what the heck are you supposed to do with a sword? http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure10.jpg =P | 2008-10-24 23:35:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
This is epic win man! Seriously, I love it! THIS actually inspired me to start designing "The Horror Level" | 2008-10-24 23:40:00 Author: Stix489 Posts: 2080 |
This is looking great and makes me even more frustrated that I don't have my copy yet so I can continue work on my level lol (I have been working on it in my head ever since the beta ended). I look forward to trying your level out upon completion. Keep up the good work. | 2008-10-24 23:42:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |

I still need to get around to finishing my level, well, more like starting it, it's just a shall at the moment. O_O I stayed in Middlesbrough and London for a bit with a friend. If the servers are up, then yes it will. Hopefully that'll be tomorrow. | 2008-10-25 06:21:00 Author: Unknown User |
Yeah, let's hope the servers don't get pushed back to the 27th, which was the "official" U.S. release date. (Yes, I know, it was "officially" the twenty-first. But that's when they said it was supposed to be available. So I'm not sure how much this earlier-than-marked availability may have effect.) At any rate, as soon as I get LBP, I will without doubt find your level once I get to it all, and rate it highly and tag it favorably. It looks really, really innovative. Although this may be due to the unfinished look I had, the overall theme of it, with the quiet, still mood inflected by the music and the overall coloring and pacing theme...it's really going to be an art piece in its own right, with great game mechanics to back it up. If I might make a slight suggestion, however... Make the jetpacks up a little bit from the ground, if you could. When they sit there like they do, it may make some of them a bit too easy to overreach, and skip one while traveling to another. However, again that's just from pure observation, so it may be different in-game. Great work! Definitely looking forward to a lot more from you. | 2008-10-25 06:30:00 Author: Mark D. Stroyer Posts: 632 |
BOOM, it's freaking done. aBJlkpTIw48 It's hard to hear my voice in the end due to the crazy epic battle music. xD I really hope y'all like this cuz I put a gang load of work into this. I hope it opens up more styles of gameplay in the game. Time to take a little break now. LOL. | 2008-10-25 07:03:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
...Wow. That. Was. Incredible. Like, awesomely incredible. Man, that was such an AWESOME job! What was good last time...just got taken to about two levels more! Dang, I can't say how awe-inspiring that was. The battle at the end was suitably epic. | 2008-10-25 07:14:00 Author: Mark D. Stroyer Posts: 632 |
O_O that is such a cool level and the dragon battle is epic, with music to match ^^ so i would like to say congrats and i will see you on tomorrow when i get the game, so send me a PM and we can exchange PSN IDs because i would like to find your levels easily, it is going to be great and we can do things together later when i have lots of materials and components and stuff Cheers! | 2008-10-25 07:27:00 Author: RAINFIRE Posts: 1101 |

Thanks y'all. I've updated the first post with "official" info about the stage. I'll put more up on how to find it when the servers go up. I'm seriously gonna take a couple days off now. I'm spent. xD | 2008-10-25 07:42:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Wow, i think you're gonna get LBP famous pretty quick. I hope I get to play this soon. But I live in Aussie so it probably will be ages... | 2008-10-25 08:02:00 Author: Tomo009 Posts: 274 |
Wow. That is really good. It captures the mood of water with the music and lighting. I love the key puzzles and the fighting. My only criticism or skepticism is if people are going to know how to fight the last boss. Is there enough hints for the player? Also, how long did that take? | 2008-10-25 08:35:00 Author: Voltiare Posts: 646 |

I'm spent. xD Lol, couldn't hear what you were saying, I have people over and they're going crazy for basketball lol... But on the + side, awesome level, was expected of you from me No but seriously, nice final battle, pretty epic ending with the blade 5/5 from me. | 2008-10-25 08:46:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

My only criticism or skepticism is if people are going to know how to fight the last boss. Is there enough hints for the player? Also, how long did that take? The quality is pretty ****ty in the vid since there's a huge green push, but the weak spots light up whenever your sword is near. I'll probably make the weak spots bigger before the servers go up, but I'm thinking once the player has a sword something will click saying... "I gotta use this on something." Hopefully. And it took me about a week to finish. I'd add more, but my thermometer is totally busted. Glad y'all enjoy it! ^^ | 2008-10-25 08:57:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
dude im 100% sure that you could get a job with mm. i hope you have the best of luck =) also it took me like 5 minutes 2 find the percent sign lol... | 2008-10-25 09:00:00 Author: Unknown User |

Amazing just amazing, I'm really looking forward to playing this level, brilliant work mate. Cheers QuozL | 2008-10-25 09:12:00 Author: QuozL Posts: 921 |
That actually sounds pretty fast for a level this big and detailed. How many hours do you think you put into it? 8 a day? lol Haha, give or take. I work 12 hour shifts 3 times a week so I have time when I'm not working. | 2008-10-25 09:17:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
you apply it on mm yet? and i was wondering if you could explain how you got the dragon 2 folo you? | 2008-10-25 09:19:00 Author: Unknown User |
I used wheels that speed up depending on Sackboy's distance, similar to how Mm did Skulldozer in the game. | 2008-10-25 10:24:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
That. Is. Brilliant. I think you could be famous pretty soon on the LBP community when the servers go up on Monday! I will definitely add you tonight so I can check this level out asap. ^ Thanks! That. Is. Brilliant. I think you could be famous pretty soon on the LBP community when the servers go up on Monday! I will definitely add you tonight so I can check this level out asap. It looks like a proper professional level a game designer would make on this game. I love all your puzzles as well, and it all looks so lovely. Haha, as humble as I try to be... there's no way my ego would turn that down. :hero: But please do add when you get a chance. I'm really happy you guys like it! =) | 2008-10-25 15:12:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
*kneels on the floor and worships donkey show* Is superbly impressed! It will take a lot to beat the standards in that level! | 2008-10-25 16:01:00 Author: floor3013 Posts: 287 |
that is superb... I think people will be hard pressed to find/make a better level than that one. You are some serious talent my friend. Cant wait to see what you will do next. | 2008-10-25 19:22:00 Author: chiropractor345 Posts: 161 |

Something shorter, that's for sure. :hero: I say that now though. It'll end up being grand in some sense like always. xD Anyway, I've edited the level to be a tad more accessible to players with the inclusion of hint systems and a bit of hand holding. Stuff that usually is somewhat okay in difficulty by my standards end up being stupid hard for a lot of people. Now it's just a waiting game for the servers to come up online. Glad y'all like it! | 2008-10-25 19:35:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

Hehe, it's definitely more accessible. My brother came over and messed around with the stage a bit. I had him try out both versions and he said more people would like the newest one I did, which is slightly different from the youtube one I recently recorded. Cool thing is, I'm not really done with the stage yet. Still adding some visual flair to it. Before: http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure20.jpg After: http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure21.jpg The level is going to look a lot more lively by the time the servers come up. | 2008-10-25 21:11:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

Don't worry. It's a lot harder than it looks. =P Still, if this kind of stuff is achievable, then fingers crossed we should be seeing some great work coming from LBP. | 2008-10-26 14:43:00 Author: floor3013 Posts: 287 |
Interesting. The patch made it so that you just press O to remove the jetpack. No more shaking the controller. Hope nobody has an enormous thumb when playing my jetpack level then. I accidentally released the jetpack in my stage thinking O didn't do anything and I got stuck. Making changes now. BTW, I've done a visual overhaul on the Azure Palace making a lot of the scenery look way more dilapidated. Should I re-record it? On another note... I can't even ace my own level. | 2008-10-26 17:17:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

On my way, we just played your other three while looking for it. Edit: I found a bug I think, when you pick up the main key at the start it is possible to get it jammed near the head of the sackman you pick it up from and then you can't pick it up ahain as the electrified portion is stick out towards the respawn side so there is noway to grab the foam side without restarting the level. Just wanted to let you know that I watched the video of your level 4 times and it inspired me to start on an equally ambitious level project!! An amazing creator and motivator I'm actually sitting at work wanting to leave now to go home and start making my toolset for my level!! Awesome work! | 2008-10-27 20:50:00 Author: LordDax Posts: 79 |
I just wanna add something for those of you who are having problems with the Azure Palace, you're not supposed to rush through it. The game obviously becomes harder if you do and punishes you for not being careful, like the dragon becoming more aggro if you boost all the way through. Also you can still pass the stage without the key in hand, but you'll get a different ending. Also, the reason for multiple jetpacks was the fact that if you accidentally release the jetpack, one would be available for you in the closest vicinity. Having one stupid long jetpack doesn't solve that problem. | 2008-10-27 21:33:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
The game obviously becomes harder if you do and punishes you for not being careful, like the dragon becoming more aggro if you boost all the way through. That goes against my instincts. If I was being chased by that dragon, I would be GONE. | 2008-10-27 22:00:00 Author: Voltiare Posts: 646 |
That goes against my instincts. If I was being chased by that dragon, I would be GONE. But it's in the dragon's instincts to chase his prey as soon as possible. =P | 2008-10-27 22:03:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
But it's in the dragon's instincts to chase his prey as soon as possible. =PYes, so the implication is that the dragon is not going it's full speed until you run far away. It's just toying with the player at jogging speed until they try to run lol. | 2008-10-27 22:05:00 Author: Voltiare Posts: 646 |
Im actually really interested in how you started this level out. Did you draw it out on paper first? Create a skeleton level that was just the platforms? Did you create building blocks and then put everything together? Its so amazing I want to know how it came together! lol | 2008-10-27 22:27:00 Author: LordDax Posts: 79 |
Im actually really interested in how you started this level out. Did you draw it out on paper first? Create a skeleton level that was just the platforms? Did you create building blocks and then put everything together? Its so amazing I want to know how it came together! lol It was supposed to be part 2 of my LittleBigPhantasy series. If you've ever played PSO, you'd know the second boss was De Rol Le. I then started off drawing it so I had a good idea of what I wanted. http://www.daviddino.com/diagram1.jpg After that, when I was messing with the first underwater section, I thought of the Azure Key and everything changed from that point on. In the diagram, you can see I loosely stuck with the initial design, but a lot of stuff obviously changed to suit the theme of the Azure Palace. It was also easy to design the rest of the stage once I found out that placing the key on one of the three planes locks the player to that specific plane until he/she let go of the key. The sword was just a byproduct of the designing the key. Yes, so the implication is that the dragon is not going it's full speed until you run far away. It's just toying with the player at jogging speed until they try to run lol. Pretty much. Plus it gives the player a slight window of opportunity to grab the key if he/she dropped it. | 2008-10-27 22:35:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I just played your level, and I have to admit, I didn't really have fun. I thought it was too unforgiving, and the jetpacks constantly running out of room really ****** me off, especially during the chase. Here's my suggestions: remove the tether on jetpacks, or at least make them all max length. Why would you not want the player to be able to go somewhere? The jetpack length contributed to over half of my deaths. Also, make it possible to complete the level without the Azure key. I managed to get past the chase with mine, only to have it get crushed underneath an obstacle. Great. If possible without screwing up the level, unelectrify the Azure key. Being accidently hit by that was another large percentage of my deaths. I can't even comment on the boss fight, because after trying 4 times, I was ready to quit. I'm not trying to say you're a bad level designer, cuz you're brilliant. Just a bit too tough. | 2008-10-27 23:10:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |
I do like your level a lot!! I didn't get chance to finish it though, what happened to Bass Deluxe happened to me, I lost the key quite far in in some horrible gas and I couldn't finish it. But what I did play I liked, it looked lovely and the atmosphere was brilliant. | 2008-10-28 00:25:00 Author: Yana Posts: 134 |

I'm not trying to say you're a bad level designer, cuz you're brilliant. Just a bit too tough. The level can be completed without the key actually. All those obstacles are meant to make you drop the key in some form or fashion. If you get to the altar without the key you just get a different ending. When I was playing online, it seemed like a lot of stuff did not register as fast, like the jetpacks and everything which led to a lot of unnecessary deaths as well. Removing the tether on the jetpacks also leads to the possibility of accidentally pressing "remove" and you're left with... "so where's the next one?" It was pretty confusing considering I've had others offline play it and it really wasn't a bother at all. I have already messed around with some stuff such as increasing the length of some jetpacks and decreasing the size of the gas, but the dragon is meant to be hard. Decreasing anything or increasing the size of the weak spots really breaks the play itself. | 2008-10-28 00:43:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Well I didn't even get to the dragon. And sorry, didn't realize you could finish without it, because in the video you said something about dieing in 30 seconds without the key or something. Anyway, about the jetpacks, what you could do is remove the tether, but leave the jetpacks scattered around. That way if they do lose the jetpack, another shouldn't be far. In all honesty, though, they shouldn't lose the jetpack since they changed the button that removes it. | 2008-10-28 00:52:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |

If you're boosting and your finger slips or you press the circle button a couple times just to end the text boxes, it can happen since canceling and remove jetpack are the same. And you do die, you just get sent to another ending. | 2008-10-28 01:01:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Love the level as it is, personally. I got owned a few good times but I got through it just fine eventually. Challenging but thats the point, nothing a good player won't be able overcome with a lil practice. But thats me, I hate easy/dumbed down levels so I can certainly appreciate getting my rear handed to me in a reasonably designed stage. I'm a masochist. | 2008-10-28 01:03:00 Author: Dr. Chaos Posts: 33 |

I love games like MegaMan 9, Contra 4, Ninja Gaiden, etc. I suppose my design philosophy reflects my love for huge gaming hurdles. The controller will get thrown, but beating something like that is sooooooo satisfying. I will de-lethalize the key though. I thought it would tell the player to stop with the sudden movements and move carefully, but I dunno. | 2008-10-28 01:09:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
It looks awesome, and I know you musta put a helluva lot of time in the level, but I absolutely hate it. ihateitihateitihateit. The key killed me constantly, and I didn't know where to go when I had the key. I'll probably replay it and love it...when the servers stop being a mudkip. | 2008-10-28 01:42:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
Personally, I don't have a problem with the difficulty. It's just the stupid deaths by jetpack and electric keys that make me mad. If you fixed those, I would be perfectly satisifed. Also, about the jetpacks...I think I'm missing something. What is the problem with untethering and leaving them strewn about? Wouldn't you have the same likelyhood of taking it off either way? | 2008-10-28 04:07:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |

Hey man great work on your level and good video i know you want my rep so you get it =) | 2008-10-28 06:05:00 Author: Thee-Flash Posts: 3154 |
I got to play the level before the servers went belly up, and I'm in the boat about the brutal difficulty, unneccessary deaths, all of that. Also, yo should make note that it's best played solo, since my buddy and I kept accidentally dropping the key on eachother or whacking one another with it even though we were being as careful as possible. Another thing is the black smoke at the two statues part is needless. My friend and I DID get to the boss battle, key intact, and spent twenty minutes and all of our lives trying to find the weak points. There really was no clear indication of where they were, but we managed to find them all. The game then prompted that his brain was exposed, but neither of us cold hit it. Is part of his head or horn supposed to come off or dematerialize in some way? If so, it didn't happen and made trying to hit his brain impossible. We gave the thing four solid runs and gave up there at the end. I have a feeling not many will finish yo level. I didn't mean to knock yo before for your design, but by god you need to make things more obvious or tone things down. One, the other, or even both. | 2008-10-28 06:19:00 Author: TenderTalons Posts: 5 |
^ I wouldn't quite say that considering a lot of people have passed the stage, and some with flying colors. I'll definitely make it "easier" but if red lights on the boss aren't obvious enough, I don't know what is. | 2008-10-28 08:56:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Making things a bit more obvious than you feel like you should is usually a good thing. I've found that making clear how a level / map is supposed to be played and finished is one of the most difficult things to do right. That's where you need testers who don't know anything about your level, haven't seen any screens or videos or haven't gotten any clues from you. I myself am always surprised at what parts are most difficult to understand in my levels, as when I myself know the point of it, I don't see how anyone else couldn't understand it until someone points me out to it. It rarely hurts to make sure the player knows what needs to be done, unless it's a mind puzzle. After looking at the video you posted, I'm 100% sure I'd be able to pass your level without any problems, but I'll never know if it would be that easy had I not seen anything about the level before trying it out. | 2008-10-28 11:00:00 Author: Linque Posts: 607 |
True. Like I said in the video, I do make it look easy. Anyway, changes have been made. - Key is no longer electrified - jetpacks are extended to an acceptable length - Gas sizes have been reduced - Weak points are more prominent I play tested it and finally aced my level for the first time. If that's not an indication in the drop of difficulty, I don't know what is. Assuming the servers don't want to take a crap again and they go up tomorrow, so will this version. I'll just overwrite the stage and go from there. I do want to make it accessible to a majority of players, but I don't want to sacrifice the core for accessibility. I do want the vocal minority to enjoy though, so I'm hoping you guys will do so after I republish this. I'll admit I'm pretty stubborn and I sure as hell did not want to change anything especially after all the work I've done, but these changes should help you experience pretty much everything. This game is all about having fun, so I'm hoping you guys who have had negative experiences try again. | 2008-10-28 12:11:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I'll be sure to try it out again today, assuming the servers will allow it. I'll let you know what I think again when I finish. | 2008-10-28 14:51:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |

Servers are up and changes have been made. Once again the changes are... - Key is no longer electrified - jetpacks are extended to an acceptable length (they're all really freaking long) - Gas sizes have been reduced - Weak points are more prominent And as I posted this, the servers eat crap again. xD | 2008-10-28 19:19:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Oooo I shall check this out when I can get the PS3 back off my man!! I do like the level, it was just so hard haha. **** key killed me loads cause I was playing 2 player and kept knocking into it. | 2008-10-28 19:20:00 Author: Yana Posts: 134 |
Glad to see you made Azure Palace easier. But I am still having a hard time with your Phantasy Stage - can you please make it easier to Ace. I am finding it impossible to get by the dragon without accidently switching into his tail after defeating him or getting stuck in areas on his tail or hitting the spikes, when I shouldn't be hitting them. grr Thanks if you can make a separate easier level for us, i'd really love to ace that level | 2008-10-28 22:28:00 Author: rustydragon Posts: 13 |
Whenever the servers go back up again, that issue should be taken care of. Other than that, I can't do too much on the side of editing the dragon too much for some odd reason considering it was my beta level that I had to copy, which limits some editing. | 2008-10-28 23:51:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

Well, I managed to try your level again. I must say, unelectrifying the key and extending the jetpacks made a world of difference, I enjoyed what I managed to play. I still didn't reach the boss though, and here's why. While going under the large brown block that attempts to smash you, my key was crushed(is it just me, or does the key not slow that down? I've never made it past there with the key intact). I continued, but when I reached the electrified blocks, I was unable to pass the last one. Is it possible to pass that one without the key? Because I was only able to get 3/4 of the way past that block before dying. | 2008-10-29 04:16:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |

I tried doing it to every one in the palace, but their timing becomes really jacked up for some odd reason.. As for that particular trap where it squishes the key... I dunno. There really is a lot of time to pass that. I've played with other people and I just follow them to see what needed fixing and tbh, everyone I've played with passed that first time go. All you gotta do is boost as the block goes up and you'll have more than enough time, plus you aren't worrying about getting electrocuted by the key anymore. That definitely isn't changing. As for the last one, again with or without the key (because it doesn't slow it down at all), it's all about timing. As the block falls you boost in a diagonal fashion. Just watch the youtube and study the timing. I was really excited to play this, but when I went to play it today, I lagged out before the level even loaded. ;_; Yeah, it's pretty lame. I was about to upload a slightly tweaked version, but it messed up. =/ | 2008-10-29 05:02:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I'll give it another go, but it seemed like I was doing both of those. I was pushing against the block while it was down so I could go asap. But I wasn't asking you to change it, just wondering if the key was supposed to slow it down. As for the other block, I was going diagonal. I guess just not enough of an angle? Edit: watched your video again and you went straight across the third block. Am I missing something? Does holding X speed you up with the jetpack or something? | 2008-10-29 05:26:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |

You go after it passes the halfway mark of its decent. Maybe you're going at too much of an angle. You also start crossing at a lower plane. Watch from 4:37 on. It gives you an idea of how to approach it. If start to high... prepare to get zapped. Edit: watched your video again and you went straight across the third block. Am I missing something? Does holding A speed you up with the jetpack or something? Wait... you didn't know holding X gave you a boost? | 2008-10-29 05:37:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I knew it did in hover mode, but not with jetpacks. Well, I feel kinda dumb now. That should help a great deal when I attempt your level tomorrow. LOL | 2008-10-29 05:42:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |

I must have not been paying attention. Edit: I have finally managed to finish the level, and so I think I can give my final verdict. The level absolutely looks beautiful, and works well(with one exception I'll address later). The final boss battle is a lot of fun. All the stupid death problems seem to be gone with the jetpack and key fix. It's not perfect though. For one, it is (relatively) short. It could do with more extras. There are only two prize bubbles in the level, neither hidden much. If you want an example of a level I consider excellent in this aspect, look at aer0blue's Tekno Fortress or any MM level. The final battle can get frustrating, because the bottom and tail weak points can be very dificult to hit. I noticed during the chase, it is actually possible for the dragon to get stuck. It doesn't happen too often, though. Also, I did manage to drop the key in the gas a few times, and then it became unretrievable. All of these are very minor, though. Overall, I think I would say it is a 9/10. Good job. Also, do you get anything for acing it? I may have to go back if you do. | 2008-10-30 02:11:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |

If you could find a way to extend the thermo limit, then yes... this stage should have been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer. I can only do so much with what I'm allowed. In order to make it any longer, I really have to sacrifice a lot of the visual fidelity of the stage, the complexity of both dragons, and so on and so forth. Same goes with the prize bubbles. Anything I try to add will make me overheat. I pushed this stage to the limit and if I could go any farther, I would. I seriously can't add any more than what you see. The first weak point was made to be easy. The other two are supposed to be hard on purpose. It makes the final weak point somewhat easier to hit in the player's mind. You get the big queen mama. EDIT: BTW, I republished The Azure Palace again. Changes this time... - hints on how to use the boost function with the jetpacks - an obvious clue telling the player they can continue the stage even without the key (I should have done this before) | 2008-10-30 11:50:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Oh, I thought that I had gotten that in the prize bubble that was Above the end Also, you probably do not need the hint on how to boost, that was probably just stupidity on my part. But now that it's there you might as well leave it, eh? Also, you might want to try moving the stage to a smaller crater. Believe it or not, I've heard they're bigger, but I have no idea if it's true or not. | 2008-10-30 14:36:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |
Hey donkey, I played it with QuozL today... and nicely done on the underwater illusion. The visuals combined with the sound effect really helped out! Cool level design too. :] Too bad our key broke...lol. xD | 2008-10-30 16:26:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |
Yea we made it 99% of the way through until I got the key jammed and it broke so while we finished the level we didn't get the good ending. Great level but I wish you would have left it a bit harder rather than soften it up Cheers QuozL | 2008-10-30 16:32:00 Author: QuozL Posts: 921 |
Also, you probably do not need the hint on how to boost, that was probably just stupidity on my part. But now that it's there you might as well leave it, eh? LOL, you're not the only one unfortunately. I've had so many questions asking if I can slow down the smashing part with which I respond... are you using X to boost? Guess what their answer was. Also, you might want to try moving the stage to a smaller crater. Believe it or not, I've heard they're bigger, but I have no idea if it's true or not. No, they're not. I've checked. =( The Azure Palace is in one of the smaller craters to begin with. I've copied it to large ones, medium sized ones, small ones... no avail. @ aer0blue and Quozl Glad y'all liked it even though the key ate it. xD Some of the clipping stuff I can't help. Stuff with sharp edges get stuck easily, from the key to the blade, which is a shame. As for making it easier... well, I wanted lots of people to experience the entire thing so it was more of a necessity than it was something I really wanted to do. Don't worry though, I got a challenging one up my sleeve. | 2008-10-30 17:32:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Loved this level. One bug I might have found, didn't really test it though, but if you fly/swim against the ceiling while heading towards the first mini boss that shoots out the plasma balls, it seems like he won't even fire anything out, you can just fly up and kill him really easily. I have yet to clear the dragon chase without dropping the key, I'll have to give it another go tonight. | 2008-10-30 18:13:00 Author: m4hleon Posts: 6 |
I fixed that section so the sensor will activate the dude regardless of where you "swim." I really appreciate everyone's feedback on this. | 2008-10-30 18:53:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

I just played through, the first time the bottom gate to get to the dragon closed on me, and i couldn't get the sword through, then the second time i slayed the dragon and got #1st place ;O. Great level. 10/10 | 2008-10-31 10:06:00 Author: Zetanix Posts: 1 |
I just ran into this level online (played through it single-player). First of all..... great level, really great. I loved the key thing. Hearted this one, of course. That dragon firing the huge doom bolts, that was awesome. Though, I dunno exactly HOW it happened, but, Going through that part, I got hit once by the dragon's attack and got popped, right? Well, respawn, get through to the end of that part, and...... well, Im not sure just what happened, but one of the energy balls came at me and I grabbed it? Not sure just what happened there, but I was able to drag the thing around. Nearly got stuck between the dragon and the gas at the top, once the dragon hit the door at the end. That was the only issue I had, perhaps just a game bug, or perhaps Im missing something here, but, figured I'd point it out anyway Excellent job on this. I'll be watching for more stuff by you. | 2008-10-31 11:23:00 Author: Bridget Posts: 334 |
^ Whoa, that was weird. Unless the electrical covering around the light dissipated and you were grabbing light, I dunno what happened. Glad y'all liked it though. =) | 2008-10-31 17:38:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
=D Highlights: - Totally "underwater" - Key based gameplay for simple puzzling, offense and defense - Wield an awesome blade - Use said blade against the final underwater dragon for EPIC battles Youtube YBxahZljFMs Pics: http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure11.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure12.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure13.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure14.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure15.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure16.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure18.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure17.jpg http://www.daviddino.com/lbpazure19.jpg Hope y'all like it. I put a lot of work into this and I'm hoping you'll enjoy what I've put out as I think it's significantly different from what you guys will be playing out there. ok... First, i love the level. It is absolutley GORGEOUS!!! the level of detail you have put in is truly astounding. But i have one complaint. The black poison gas. It really angers me. Just sorta flying around, all of a sudden POOF! dead. I know you cant really do much about it, but i just wanna let you know. | 2008-11-03 03:00:00 Author: chiropractor345 Posts: 161 |

dude what the heck. The key always breaks. I have done the level 3 times and 2 times it has broken. You're not fast enough. =P But seriously the stage is designed to make you lose the key in any way possible. You can continue the stage without the key, but... you can't get the best ending. i tried it a little TOO Epic to be honest Haha, as I was designing the stage, I kept wondering how to make it retardedly epic in some way or fashion. All according to keikaku. | 2008-11-04 20:47:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

I've saved this answer specifically for this question. When you initially get past the first electric spitting statue, you have to leave the key in the first shrine and NOT pull it out as it falls into the ground. A second key will appear with the statue on the middle plane and thus your problems will be solved when you get to the final shrine. Well, you reach a different ending when you get bombed... As for acing, you get the big momma dragon. | 2008-11-04 22:14:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

I really don't know where I found that music, tbh. All I know is that it's called Cries in the Wind. I also saw that video review ryryryan put up. It was a pretty decent review but I wasn't expecting a kind of nod like that for the Azure Palace. ^^ Thanks again everyone. I'm an idiot. it's not one of the midi-songs, it's one of the licensed full songs. i was digging through all the individual parts of the midi looking for it and there it is, a full song. can't remember what level it's from. i'm guessing the wilderness or the temple | 2008-11-05 04:54:00 Author: Conall-Star Posts: 157 |

that's awesome man! congrats. i must say i'm a little intimidated by some of the amazing levels people have put out there. i have some grand vision in my head, but doubt i'll ever be able to get it down on "paper". you certainly deserve all the praise for this level. wonderful art design and very unique gameplay. | 2008-11-05 12:11:00 Author: Conall-Star Posts: 157 |

My key fell apart so I couldn't finish it properly. In the chase scene, a lightning ball hit the key and made the star part fall off. I wanted to do the boss Keep at it. The entire stage from that point is meant to destroy the key, but there's an easy way around that part. The bottom is booby trapped if you try to get the point bubbles so stay high and you will generally be okay until you get to the palace itself. Tons of people have made it to the end and you can too. ^^ You can finish the stage without the key, but of course you don't get to fight the final boss. And thanks again everyone. Glad you liked it a lot. I'm slowly working on something different so I might give a little preview really soon. it was fairly hard. but i beat it in one try =] not trying to act like a bad *** though so dont think im showing off or anything. but yeah dude you need to make more stages. you only have 3 and those 3 alone make me want more and more. hope we end up making a stage together someday =] Nah, it's totally cool. BEAUTIFUL level man. I played this on my own a week ago and couldn't make it past the beginning. I played it co-op with a stranger today and was finally able to make it all the way to the final boss. We had to restart about 40 times cause our key would either get lost, get crushed, or break in two. We finally found a way to carry two keys: - in the part when you have to drop the key and it goes under making another key appear in the statues hand... you drop the key and go down with it then immediately back out holding the key. . Hopefully you went down far enough to make the other key appear but you didn't go too far down where you get stuck under the rock. We couldn't figure out for the life of us how to beat the dragon though. We ended up taking the sword to the little room on the right (with the cardboard eggs) and it would just get stuck there. We never really had a chance to fight the dragon. One problem I had with the level was the depth. If the key wasn't in the right depth then your whole game is screwed. same thing with the sword, if you aren't in the right depth with the sword, then you have no chance of taking it out of that little egg room. Other than some minor problems, this has to be the best user created level in the whole game. Good job! | 2008-11-09 12:41:00 Author: anjang86 Posts: 5 |

small tweak suggestion. i was just showing the level to my friend and the part where you first get the key, he somehow got it stuck between the ceiling and the statue that originally holds it, and himself trapped behind the statue. might be a good idea to make that ceiling just a little bit lower so it can't get stuck there. we had to simply restart the level. | 2008-11-10 03:48:00 Author: Conall-Star Posts: 157 |
I gotta say Donkey, you sure do have a talent for making giant monster enemies. my only complaint is that the entire monster doesnt disappear after you kill it. but then again... that would be alot of monster brains. | 2008-11-10 04:04:00 Author: altanonymous Posts: 22 |

There's no reason to be in there until you defeat the dragon. #2 I'm still wondering why people are trying to grab the key in the second shrine. This is why people are having depth issues when getting to the final shrine. I even put a caption telling the player to let go of the key so that they can grab the other key which appears on the right plane. Ah well, I can only make the stage handhold for so long. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it. small tweak suggestion. i was just showing the level to my friend and the part where you first get the key, he somehow got it stuck between the ceiling and the statue that originally holds it, and himself trapped behind the statue. might be a good idea to make that ceiling just a little bit lower so it can't get stuck there. we had to simply restart the level. We honestly couldn't find any clear brain on the dragon so we decided to look around for a clue before running into the dragon full steam. Also, with the second key, we were constantly trying the double key glitch I mentioned earlier... most of the time we wouldn't have the first key down far enough to spawn the second one. Had I known this was the cause of the depth issues, I wouldn't have tried the glitch. | 2008-11-10 15:50:00 Author: anjang86 Posts: 5 |
Did you eventually figure out how to attack the dragon with the blade? | 2008-11-10 16:07:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I created an account here just to reply to this thread It took me about four hours of trying, but I finally aced the level. First time I ran into the second dragon I nearly soiled myself! Anyway, I wanted to point out that the knife/sword thing you use on the dragon can actually break! I was using the 'x' on the jetpack to get some extra 'whip' from the sword so it would fly faster, and i smacked the tail really hard near the weak point. At some point, the 'light' on the sword fell off and then things got interesting. The sword stopped colliding with most of the dragon. For example, I could stab through the electrified part on the head and hit the brain that way. Figured you might wanna know. I eventually found the sword's light sitting on the ground under the tail. | 2008-11-10 18:08:00 Author: Vandalite Posts: 20 |
Yeah, the sword breaking is something I can't fix simply due to the nature of the game's physics. Considering that sword isn't really meant for that kind of usage, that's what can happen. Yet... in reality it makes killing the dragon a lot easier, believe it or not. | 2008-11-10 22:09:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Well, i FINALLY got to play the game on the weekend, and i did give this level a go However i couldn't complete it Many times i ended up getting to the obstacles after the first monster and the key just kept on breaking. After about my 5th attempt i gave up, but only cause i could only play the game on Friday night and Sunday morning... so i wanted to give all aspects of the game a go. But anyway, the level was just brilliant. I did get the 'bad' ending. I suggest putting a little text bit in saying to try again for the better ending... otherwise some may just think its the end! I'm gunna properly complete this level when i get to play it again this weekend | 2008-11-10 22:19:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
That's something I still haven't got around to... I'll try to shoehorn that in now. Good luck and I'm glad you kinda enjoyed it. =P BTW, fly higher when running away from the dragon. It makes it easier if you're not shooting for a high score. | 2008-11-10 22:41:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

Can't wait to go back and complete it If you republish a level does that affect the hearts/play count? And i found the escaping bit easy It was just guiding the key through those traps!! it broke it alot lol. And the first time i came across a bug where when you just escaped the first monster... my key got stuck between the floor and the checkpoint. So i couldn't move it at all and had to restart the whole thing. Maybe if you moved the checkpoint a tad higher it would prevent that from happening again...? | 2008-11-10 23:01:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Question for you though. How hard is it to rig up the dragons to move similar to the way it did in the final fight? I'm anxious to have it move instead of as a sculpture I can only see in paused mode... | 2008-11-11 00:00:00 Author: Vandalite Posts: 20 |
Question for you though. How hard is it to rig up the dragons to move similar to the way it did in the final fight? I'm anxious to have it move instead of as a sculpture I can only see in paused mode... Not hard really. The trick is to just prop it up with string and make all the wobblebolt movements go really slow at first. When you figure it out, you'll realize it's rather simple in design, but pretty hard to get right. | 2008-11-11 00:24:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
The level is challenging, but not impossible I love levels like that. I just completed this one today, the dragon isn't that difficult to kill once you know its weak points. From there it's all a matter of being able to maneuver around the behemoth. It's weak points are on that fish picture. People need to pay attention to the cluuues XD The level is definitely different and one of my favorites | 2008-11-11 03:56:00 Author: xbriandeadx Posts: 134 |
If you're still making improvements, could you provide some way to get out if you lose your jetpack at the bottom of the boss fight? Either a small stairway or another jetpack would do. I somehow lost mine (I think I was pressing circle to cancel a text thing) and I got stuck down there with no way to get out except 'try again'... and though I'd already beat the boss it meant I lost the level. Quite well done overall. | 2008-11-11 13:33:00 Author: Risen Posts: 251 |

I somehow lost mine (I think I was pressing circle to cancel a text thing) and I got stuck down there with no way to get out except 'try again'... and though I'd already beat the boss it meant I lost the level. Quite well done overall. There are two more jetpacks at the bottom of the boss fight. One at the far left and one at the far right close to the ending checkpoint. I can't add anymore due to thermo limitiations. Just tweaked The Azure Palace with better multiplayer support (those without the key can use shields to help protect the key bearer) and made some other minor tweaks as well. *spits up coffee* THAT. IS. MESSED. UP. Is it still on your moon or is it erased for good? It's still on my moon, but unless I get a reason why it was moderated I will no longer spend my free time with this game. | 2008-11-16 03:20:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
What? How could it possibly be moderated? It couldn't be for red stickers or something stupid like that could it? That is just ridiculous. | 2008-11-16 03:24:00 Author: Tomo009 Posts: 274 |

Just contact the people in charge of moderation and explain what happened and hopefully they will reverse the decision. I think you violated God's copyright on water... Really though, I think that as a rule of thumb no level should be pulled unless an official actually sees it and says it is bad. People are abusing the Good Grief Menu. | 2008-11-16 03:40:00 Author: RadarFlea Posts: 85 |
I hope this wasn't pulled for blood >.> It's ridiculous that they are moderating levels with blood, when MM has blood in their own levels. | 2008-11-16 03:42:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |
Aw man, that's an extra large helping of weak. So if you re-publish it, will it have all of the plays/hearts? If not, then that's just awful. | 2008-11-16 03:44:00 Author: UmJammerSully Posts: 1097 |
Alright, don't go to extremes now. Just contact the people in charge of moderation and explain what happened and hopefully they will reverse the decision. It sucks, I agree, but I would hate to miss out on some more donkey love. I sent a message to Sam_Protagonist on the lbpworkshop forums. Hey, I apologize if I come off a little rude here, but what in God's green earth did I have in my stage that violated ANY of the following: You agree that you will not create, transfer, share, send, submit or upload any User Generated Content that: (a) is protected by copyright, patent, trademark or trade secret or otherwise subject to third-party proprietary rights, including but not limited to rights of privacy and publicity (unless you are or have permission from the rightful owner); (b) contains fraudulent statements or misrepresentations that could damage SCE or any third party; (c) contains any statements or materials that disparage, ridicule or scorn SCE or any third party; (d) is obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, predatory, pornographic, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, or encourages conduct that would violate any law or is otherwise inappropriate; (e) is an advertisement or solicitation of business; (f) is an impersonation of another person; or (g) violates any of the rules of Online Conduct, other terms of this Agreement, terms of the PSN Terms of Service and Usage Agreement or any other terms related to this game Please, watch this workshop of my stage and tell me if you see ANYTHING that violates a, b, c, d, e, f, or g. http://www.littlebigworkshop.com/en-...hop/View?id=78 If you're going to gig me for the blood, then I suggest you patch out The Terrible Oni's Volcano for the blood stain stickers on the spikes and the ground. I also suggest you patch out the meerkat strippers in that Meerkat Kingdom stage as well. Why not patch out the drinking references while you're at it. If it's for the www.lbpcentral.com in my description, it's not a business. It's a freaking fansite dedicated to the LBP community. I invested a huge amount of time making The Azure Palace to not only be original, but to shift the gameplay of this wonderful game you guys made. Besides similarities to underwater stages in general, there is nothing directly taken from any game/movie/etc. If there so happened to be one, the terms of moderation are by far extremely irrational. The user is given no chance to change certain aspects of his creation to conform to said rules above. WE'RE NOT EVEN GIVEN A FREAKING REASON AS TO WHY IT HAPPENED!!! If I had blatantly known that I was infringing on these said rules, then I wouldn't be typing this message. I know why my Red Rings of Burninating stage was moderated and I am cool with that. Yet, as to why the Azure Palace was moderated is freaking ridiculous. I really supported this game, I really did. I played the beta since it came out and was even able to grab a retail copy early. It gave the player the ability to create what was in his head without having to know programming, etc. Mm had done a tremendous job of making the player feel awesome while experiencing good 'ol fashioned fun with others. People loved playing my stages and it gave me more of a reason to make more complex ones, hoping to push the limits of what this game can do and how it can inspire others to strive to make better levels in the future. But if this is how you're going to treat creators in general, then I don't see why I should continue playing/creating/sharing. Seriously, we have a billion "collect 15 billion trophies" and other random stages that are hardly worth playing, then stages like World of Colour and the Azure Palace are no longer found. That's right, World of Colour is gone too. FOR WHAT REASON?!?! If they can't maintain a decent semblance of good moderation, then why should I continue to make stuff like the Azure Palace in under that same fear, let alone anyone else who has been working their butt off to make awesome levels for all of us to enjoy? They have blood stains and Meerkat Strippers! | 2008-11-16 04:13:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
It's like discovering a cure for cancer, then only giving it to people who don't have cancer. The dumb levels are allowed to be up, but the brilliant creators are being denied. Geez, of all the things in the world that could be considered bad, why would anyone look to LBP? | 2008-11-16 04:24:00 Author: RadarFlea Posts: 85 |
You know what? Maybe there's this organization. An organization of jerks, dedicated to ruining LBP for all of us. Maybe this organization- or, maybe it's just an idiot- goes into good levels, puts offensive stickers everywhere, and makes a Good Grief report with all those offensive things in there- it looks like they're part of the level, right? ...and Mm, of course, removes these levels. | 2008-11-16 04:54:00 Author: Tyler Posts: 663 |
Heh, I nearly broke the disc in two when I found out. Honestly, this is silly. Is it a childish response, sure it is. I don't care right now. The moderation system is fully borked and I doubt I'll be getting a decent response from Mm as to why this happened. | 2008-11-16 05:07:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
This makes no sense, why have 2 of the greatest levels in LBP gone, Azure Palace had nothing at all to violate any of the agreements (red stickers, please don't let it be red stickers) and World of Colour was the most peaceful little harmless level. | 2008-11-16 05:09:00 Author: Tomo009 Posts: 274 |

Hmmm, thats retarded. I agree their own levels are worse than Azure Palace. And many levels that stomp all over copyrighted material still stay (sackman begins, and mirror's edge.) World of Colour is gone to? Why in the world! There is nothing in that level inappropriate for a 3 year old. Maybe we should make some kind of petition. I think azure palace had the best play for heart ratio of all the user made levels that have more than 10,000 plays. It's going to be very, very bad for their game if this keeps happening. By the way I wasn't kidding about the petition thing. Oh crap! I just remembered you squish the mayor in my city level. If it ever gets popular it will probably be removed! | 2008-11-16 06:12:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |

1) MM went out of their way to interview the "World of Colour" guy complimenting both this level as well as his previous levels (God of War) and now they are both deleted? I smell something other then MM... I doubt they are behind this if they bring a creator into the spotlight just to mod him. 2) I was making a Wizard of Oz level - using fake names and scenery so not to directly infringe on Copyright.... but I don't wanna continue wasting my time if there is even a chance of them deleting it This sucks | 2008-11-16 06:14:00 Author: RedPanda Posts: 191 |
I have decided that something strange is amiss. Im a little curious gevurah when did they delete Azure Palace? And they took that guys aside in an interview? It sounds like something really wierd is happening. | 2008-11-16 06:18:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |
They took it down today I'm guessing. Apparently people were playing it earlier this morning. | 2008-11-16 06:31:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

And for the record, MM does not handle moderations... Sony does. Welcome to what I would like to call "Lack of Communication". Either Sony doesn't play its own games or something's up. | 2008-11-16 14:22:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |
This honestly goes too far. In no way should the Azure Palace be removed. Sony are dragging their feet with the moderation debacle and I've about had enough of it. Is it too late to grab our pitchforks and torches and march down to SCEA HQ? | 2008-11-16 15:11:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |

Doesn't seem too late to me. I feel we need to do something about this... The problem is, what do we do? Sony's a huge company; decisions about how to handle content on LittleBigPlanet go through many people(obviously not Media Molecule though), and it's not something we can argue with them about. They have already made an official statement (http://threespeech.com/blog/2008/11/littlebigplanet-community-content-update/) regarding their moderation procedure, and while it doesn't seem as if they've changed much yet, we can't exactly get angry with them over something they are in the process of fixing. We might be able to get them to reallow World of Colour and The Azure Palace back on the servers, but I don't think we'll accomplish more than that. Even that would be a feat, and we'd need a lot of you guys backing it before they'd listen. I'm thinking a petition of some sort. If that's not the way you want to go, you need to figure out exactly what you want to accomplish. Otherwise, we're just a bunch of angry gamers with no real ideas on how Sony can improve this whole process. | 2008-11-16 17:49:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Of course, they have already admitted to the moderation process needing review and a fix in the works. I'm quite sure they already know we are angry about the current system, so that much is accomplished. The problem is that making, testing, and distributing the fix will take some time, and during that transition time levels are STILL being moderated blindly, and good, honest creators are being put off of the game for good. This is the problem I see : they should have suspended moderation the moment they admitted there might be a problem. Without a doubt, World of Colour and The Azure Palace must be reinstated, but at the same time they should put a pause on the moderation until the fix they are working on is issued. I have little hope they will do this without a show of force however, and our options are limited in that regard. In my opinion, petitions mean very little to a company. The fact of the matter is that Sony currently has the upper hand because we've already bought the game and they've already announced a fix in the works. We're at a stalemate, and the only thing we can do is not publish our levels, or lock them so only select people will have access to them, until the fix is done. I have been looking for a way to abuse the current Good Grief system so that they may decide to shut it down, unfortunately they haven't supplied us with a way to write our reasons, and thus the point would easily get lost. | 2008-11-16 18:46:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
I've pulled my levels in protest and signed the petition. If we want to be heard we need to completely lock down our levels. | 2008-11-17 06:41:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
am i the only one who read the in game news re: moderation. they say they know it's messed up & they're working on it. calm down guys. pitchforks? lol. i know it takes time to make a level, but it isn't gone forever. | 2008-11-17 08:29:00 Author: Unknown User |
I believe this is the second pitchfork raid... The first was when they first said about "charging for user levels". Supposedly a "misunderstanding", but I'm 100% positive it just slipped the Sony dev's lips when it wasn't supposed to happen. Expect the Velvet Palace in a year or so, at $0.99... Or maybe even World of Bleak! | 2008-11-17 09:01:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |
While it would be good to get Azure and world of color back, we should work on a prevention process that works with sony instead of attacking them for their faults. | 2008-11-17 09:30:00 Author: ZachAttack Posts: 73 |

It's most definitely some one going around and griefing levels...it seems a lot of people in gamefaqs (surprisingly enough, which uses a similar system) and kotaku seem to think MM/sony are the ones who choose the levels that should be modded. But we are technically the ones who to pick out the level to be modded, similar to gamefaqs where some one mods a post for moderators to look at. | 2008-11-17 15:52:00 Author: Katagi Posts: 62 |

Disclosure: I created an account so I can post in this thread. I just got finished acing this wonderful level and I have to say it is quite probably the very best level that has been made so far. You've really done an incredible job on it, and I eagerly look forward to your next creation. That said I would like to bring to your attention a particularly serious glitch in one of the most important parts of the level, the dragon chase outside the palace. If the player takes a wide path left of the checkpoint so as to avoid activating it (a viable strategy considering that activating it pushes you down a bit increasing the possibility the key will be crushed by the falling pillar) the pillar will not fall and the dragon simply won't spawn, thereby allowing the player to work their way to the palace at their leisure, taking as much time as they need to collecting score bubbles along the way. I imagine that it was not your intention to allow players to skip the chase entirely so you may want to look into what you can do to fix this. Thanks again for creating this beautiful level, you are awesome | 2008-11-22 00:52:00 Author: Unknown User |
I saw this posted on NeoGAF, and I was with you all the way when it was temporarily taken down. I really loved the ambiance, the alternate ending pending on success or failure, and just the overall look and feel of being "underwater". I would add you, but I'd just be yet another person adding you from playing your fantastic level, I think. | 2008-11-22 00:57:00 Author: Unknown User |
