Uhm... Windows Vista Startup Error Thingie? [FIX'D]

Archive: 6 posts

So uh... I just tried turning on my brother's computer, but when I do, it says that windows can not start due to possibly damaged hardware.

There are 2 options to pick, start Windows normally, and Diagnose/Repair or something like that. Start Windows normally just restarts the computer and repeats the problem, while Repair brings up some "Restore" thing, and asks to pick a keyboard language.

I'm kinda scared to continue, since I dunno if that'll format the harddrive or anything, since it says "restore"...

Has anyone here ever had that problem, or could possibly halp meh? Thanks...

/Is on PS3 browser

EDIT: So, my dad ended up fixing it last night. Thanks for all the help though.

Well, yeah.

The computer came with Vista, so...

Yeah, I just need to know what this "restore" it's forcing me into will do.

Try disconnecting any external devices that are connected to the computer then reboot and see if you get the same error message.

And for the love of God, upgrade to Windows 7. Its not as problem ridden as Vista.

Not sure if it's the same thing but..
Something similar happened to my vista laptop.
I chose some option like "backup + restore" or something. It let me choose what I wanted to save (music/docs/images/etc), and it copied them to my external drive.
Then the laptop restored itself to original settings.

I recomend backing up everything, as I lost a few things I needed. (apparently flash files are not considered documents *rolleyes*)

The above was the -only- problem I ever had in vista, but it was enough to get a new laptop/OS.

Well, the only external devices are my pen tablet, and a disc drive. (If that counts...)

So, I'll try seeing what that restore thing does later...
