Translations?

Archive: 21 posts

I have some text I'd like to translate into other languages. I'd use babelfish but the translation it gives is usually a garbled mess. If anyone can translate english to japanese, spanish, genrman, french or whatever, let me know. I'd like to make my level as accessible to as many people as possible.

Oh yeah, its not going to be more than one or two sentences.

I'm not sure if this would help but have you tried the Google version , I;ve tried the translator and usually it is accurate.2008-10-21 03:21:00

I'll check it out. Not a lot of interest in this so I may just wing it with whatever translator program/site I can find. I just thought it would be cool to have an accurate translation. Thanks.

I can translate into French if you want. I'd be happy to help ^^
And if you don't want me, ask KAPBAM =P

@ mongoose: No online translator is accurate, that I'm sure of. Most tend to have grammar mistakes, tenses, and then even the choice of words.

Thanks for your support guys. I'll keep you all in mind. Even the most basic of any language is better than having some poor guy trying to play a level and not know the objective. 2008-10-21 23:13:00

So what are you gonna do with these translations then
Surly your not gonna have your dialog in loads of languages for every time you say something IN GAME. Or is it gonna be for the level description
I suppose if you are only saying a couple of sentences then it may work to have it in a few languages but i found the magic mouths very limited in terms of how much you can write

If you want my help, I'd be glad to offer it to you! 2008-10-22 00:26:00

Whatever transslator you use, I don't think it really matters. Even if it's a little off, I'm sure people will still understand it. For example: Looking outside of this dragon! It breath hot at you! (Did you understand that?)

But if you're looking for a human translation: I have a friend that can speak Bulgarian, a friend that can speak German, and a friend that can speak Spanish. As for me, I can speak English (no duh, lol), Vietnamese, and a little Spanish.

My wife is chinese, translates well. But I don't think there'll be a lot of chinese players.
Japanese, english, and a variety of european languages are probably all you'd need.

I was going to setup a little switch or rotating dial so the player could select his or her language. The switch would drop in the right character with the correct magic mouth. That way everyone is happy. It may be overboard but a level I'm working on may not be easy to figure out right off the bat.2008-10-22 22:06:00

I can translate to Finnish, and depending on how difficult the text you're typing is, Swedish and German. 2008-10-23 16:52:00

Sure, they'd understand it. But they might find it annoying if it was badly translated.
Like what you wrote there, I understood it, but I found it quite disturbing.
It's the same thing in other languages.

If you want to do something, do it right.
Then again, it might just be me

OK. Sorry 'bout that.

>_> There was nothing to be sorry about. I was just stating it xD

Yes. It's important to spell everything right. It's also important to write good and polished text to make the level feel more professional.2008-10-23 17:05:00

I also do not believe online translators are accurate. Everytime I try one I can do a better job myself! It's just handy for words. And I can translate to dutch for you. wouldn't mind that.2008-10-27 23:29:00
