Sneak into an adventure...

http://i794.photobucket.com/albums/yy222/MofoSuperVillain/APhoto_2.jpg

A simple silhouette style level. It's got some platforming parts and a few easy puzzle bits that revolve around boxes with butterflies on them. Plus there are plenty of point bubbles to collect and some prizes as well.

Wow! This level was great! It had a style that I have never seen before! I also liked the gameplay! It had a dirty feel throughout the level, that's the best way for me to explain this. Its a shame you have such few plays! Everyone give this a try its really cool!2010-08-20 23:40:00

I'm glad you liked it austimerr. Most of the stickers I used are from the Heavy Rain pack. I've always wanted to do a silhouette level but everything I tried making prior to this looked like all the other ones, and this I felt was different.

If you peel off some of the stickers in the levels there might be some left with more color, but eventually I decided to keep it simpler and stick with white, black, grey, and cardboard.

I'm trying to make a video for it now but I've never done one before so it might take a little while.

checking it out now, can you take a look at mine?

Edit/Update:
Wow, where do I even begin? That level is tremendous, my wife sat there watching and thought I had bought more content (it is that good)
So for the rest of this post please understand that it is extremely difficult to give you any advice at all.

Things I especially liked:
The whole butterfly boxes idea (They stand out, they are the key to proceeding and are so simple yet eye catching and for want of a better word a great gimmick)
The grate to the first tunnel you jump in (I liked that you simply grabbed it and pulled it off, again simple but worked to great effect)
I really liked the checkpoint/respawn points (the fact that you couldn't see them)
I liked the part where the butterfly box disappeared when you jumped and grabbed it and you fall onto the right path again (better than an arrow showing you where to go)

The whole thing was very original, I highly recommend it and have already sent a couple of friends to see it

FYI, I hearted you and your level

This is a such a cool looking level. As you say you have really managed to do something different from the usual black and white level. I loved the whole "grunge" feel the level had and I thought having small dashes of colour in the butterfly boxes was a brilliant touch. All the sticker work was excellent - I really liked the caravans and the buildings - and your car was very well made too!

The gameplay was straightforward but very well done too. It had good flow and there were lots of bubbles to collect. I still haven't found the last prize bubble so I shall have to back and replay.

I haven't got any suggestions for improvement really - the level is great as it stands. Personally I would have liked the puzzles to have been a little more challenging but I totally appreciate that the focus here is on the visuals which were fantastic.

I'm very much looking forward to your next level!

Umm.. haha.. wow... This level was amazing!!! This is by far one of the most creative levels I have played!

Pros
- Beautiful Environment
- Amazing Silhouette Effect
- Great Puzzles
- Nice Use of Glass as Water and Such
- The Sky.
- Smoothness of the Gameplay
- True to its Name lol.
- Nice placing of Points

Cons
- You are the first person I have reviewed that I thought had no cons in there level. Nice job.

This looks amazing! How'd you do the silhouette effect?

I love the car! Fits the level perfectly.

The grungy look really is amazing, and the pacing of the level feels perfect with it.

The puzzles are pretty simple, but I have a hard time thinking of even those when making levels, and this beats most of mine, so no fault there.

Your buildings look incredible!

Nice surprise when I took to the sky...

All in all, I'd say this level gives great platforming a very unique makeover. I smiled every second. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3!

For a different take on the black and white level, I'd love an F4F on Invasion of the Sack Men From Space! Less artistic than this, but I took the monochrome concept and tried to make an old fashioned B-Movie out of it. Looking forward to your feedback!

Very artistic level. I love how you managed to create a combination of fantasy and reality, and then the silhouette effect made it deliciously eyecatching. My favorite part was undoubtedly jumping above the clouds while collecting all the points. Great use of sounds everywhere too.
I don't think I could suggest anything that would improve this level.

I'd appreciate a short review of my level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=33402-Evelyn) whenever you have the time.

Very interesting appearance with this one, and I liked it. It gets harder and harder to find an original looking level as LBP and its DLC ages, but you've managed to pull it off here. I've also been waiting for someone to make full use of the Heavy Rain sticker set, I finally got my wish. Furthermore your gameplay doesn't take a backseat either, it was very enjoyable to play. Overall, 5/5.2010-08-22 21:39:00

Glad to hear that Lockstitch. I've been messing about with the silhouette effect for a while and it wasn't until I placed a few of those stickers in a level that I thought I was onto something.

It reminded me of some old LucasArts adventures games in a way and also, even though the stickers are static, something that had been rotoscoped. I think the look, with a bit more color, would be great for a slower paced point and click style adventure game, though I tend to do better making platforming type levels.

But the hook that comes down near the beginning broke when me and 3 friends grabbed on.

Could you play my Mining belt survival? please tell me exactly whats wrong.

I'll be sure to check out your level. Thanks for informing me about the hook, I'll have to take a look at it and see what the problem is.

Edit: I added larger hooks with less corners and all as one material at both spots where there were hooks in the level. Hopefully that clears it up.

Hey there!

I loved the silhouette effect - I mean, I've seen it before, but never like this - they're usually quite bland but this had some nice details and effects in it. No idea how you pulled it off, but it worked! I haven't previously seen the heavy rain stickers used before either, so it was good to see them put to use. The gameplay was pretty good - not too hard, but if it was hard, I'm not sure if it would have fitted in with the level. I found your level quite relaxing - it seemed quite peaceful. The clouds thing was pretty good too - I enjoyed being flung into the air by the cardboard boxes, and it was good how you used butterfly stickers to show the player where and what they needed to do, rather than having those arrow and R1 stickers hanging about.

The buildings were very detailed and a real pleasure to look at, and although I enjoyed the look of the car, I was unsure of it's purpose in the level - it just seemed to drive forward and then stop. Intentional?

Anyway, 5 stars and hearted! Great work - hope to see more from you soon!

Very nice level, I loved the design of it.

5 stars, and a heart.

I have a question, is it possible to make things that aren't colored blue? I've never made a visual effect like the one seen in the level, but every time I see a level like this, they always have blue colored objects.

@standby250: The car is to get onto the roof of the house. I might add an effect were it seems like it gets stuck in mud, but yeah just jumping off it onto the house is it's purpose.

@warlord_evil: You should only be seeing black, white, grey, cardboard and just a few other shades of those. There is some slight blue in the level but it shouldn't really be noticeable. I'd check the settings on your T.V. As far as what colors you can get you can basically have any color you want, but black, white, and shades of grey seem to work the best for these types of levels.

I'm talking about the color your sackperson is when you play the level, to me it looks like a gray color with a tint of blue, what I'm asking, is, can you change that color? I'm not saying you should, I'm just wondering how far this level art effect it goes. I'm assuming you can change the color because it's just the fog color, right?

Yeah, pretty nice visuals.
I didn't even know the heavy rain pack came with stickers.
I think I may have preferred grunge style gameplay to match the grunge look?

Why didn't you use the HR origami butterfly sticker? The standard one is pretty overused imo, and I'd imagine the origami version suits your level well (or maybe too detailed?).

Hi, I'll write this review as I play

Visually, the level is quite original. The area where you see the moon is specially nice.
The puzzle with the butterfly box could be little bit more original.
The gameplay is not bad in general, but lacks of original ideas
The part of the clouds is the best part of the level in my opinion. It's quite funny and visually interesting
In general the level is too easy. You could consider adding some challenges and dangeruous areas
You could write a small story for the level, trying to add some purpose of the player to finish the level

Overall the level is nice, but I would add more challenges and a small story. :star::star::star::star::star: and tagged beautiful
You could consider giving me feedback in my level "The tanks factory 2". Thank you in advance.

@midnight_heist: I used the painted butterfly sticker because it stood out better than the origami ones. The pure white color was easier to notice than Oigami one because that has some black and dark grey and wasn't contrasting with the background stuff in the level as much as i wanted it too.

@onturenio: I rarely add stories to my level because for the most part i find them unneccesary. That's just a matter of taste though. There is a basic idea to the level that it's just a daydream your having at work and when your pushing boxes around it's really just work your doing. Basically the gameplay is the story of the level and I didn't want to make it literal, just have it as a subtext.

Thanks for the feedback of "The Hero Chronicles LV6 Sky Metropolis". The level looks really artistic and mesmerizing. The platforming works well too. The only thing that bugs me is the water floor because it's hard to get off or walk when on it but it's not a real problem. Overall this level deserves 5 :star:s and a <3.2010-08-26 00:24:00

@JustinArt: I know what you mean about the water/glass. The trick is to jump and move a little in the air so you come down and hit it at an angle which gives you momentum.

In general it seems like the consensus is that the level and puzzles in it are a little to easy. To test my levels I usually go play something I like and hope someone else does the quicklpaly thing. Then I'll take them to one of my levels and try to get them to lead me through the level to get a sense of the how the average player might do in my level. I'm always surprised at how often they'll die or have trouble figuring really simple and basic seeming things out. I tend to err on the side of caution in that respect.

Good use of Heavy rain stickers I think it would look better al black and white just with global setting and zoom the camera but that make it hard to show the player they can grab somthing2010-08-26 13:24:00
