Sacktastic? CROWN Contest!

Side Note: For those with a keen eye, yes, this is essentially the same post I have over at LittleBigWorkshop, but honestly, all the things I said in it still apply perfectly well, so I felt no real need to change it up because I think I wrote it pretty well the first time. Also, in NO WAY is this trying to steal any of LBPCentral's thunder. LBPCentral was really one of the very first LBP Fan Sites I started going to and reading often, and I will continue to support all LBP Community Sites!

Hello all! My name is Alex (sorry I've never properly introduced myself before, for one reason or another I'm typically more of a lurker here than a poster) and I am the creator and admin of a pretty new LittleBigPlanet Fan Site called Sacktastic™ (http://www.sacktastic.com) - and we are having a Grand Opening Competition called the Prequel to the Sequel Contest (http://www.sacktastic.com/prequel-to-the-sequel-contest), where the goal is to try to re-create a level we've seen from clips, demos, trailers, and what not of LittleBigPlanet 2 but in LittleBigPlanet 1 where you will have to find unique work-arounds for the parts of those levels that seemingly required features and power-ups that are unique to the sequel. Think you're up to it? After all, thanks to the lovely people at Media Molecule, the prize will be none other than the Rare Crown!

A personal goal of mine is to achieve the Crown one day too, so Sacktastic™ (http://www.sacktastic.com) is ultimately my *gift* to the LBP community, but you've all got to accept the gift as well ! Plus, essentially I wanted to start the site out of my pure love for the game...there is simply no other game out there like it! And since we're pretty new and all, we have yet to draw much attention (nor traffic for that matter) to the site, so any & all help would definitely be appreciated!

Hahaha, yes, Tower of Woop is often the first to come to mind. Glad you are gonna take an original attempt at this Remember to sign-up on our forums as well so you can properly submit your level once completed, etc. And although I don't expect the average person to take the time to read ALL the Terms & Conditions (I had to hand-write them though...jeez!), all the info necessary is definitely there, so look over the post for anything else you might need.		2010-08-20 04:46:00

Interesting. I haven't given much thought to trying to replicate lbp2 features, but it could be fun. I've never entered a contest (I either don't hear about them in time, or just don't have any fun ideas that fit the theme, or I'm just too lazy) but I might have to give this one some thought.2010-08-20 05:04:00

I might enter this, I already have a LBP2 level built. Maybe I can fine tune it? I am proud of the jump pads I made though, they are EXACTLY like the jump pads in LBP2, with no buttons or anything.2010-08-20 11:19:00

Ah, I was mistaken. I was thinking that the TM symbol meant it was already registered. I didn't know you could assign your own trademark to any original name you create. Too bad it costs $300+ to register it federally tho, that's a lot o money 		2010-08-21 05:26:00

In the rules it says that 'You may include any type of non-harmful or non-cheating glitch *that is available and known to the public* in your level if you desire to do so. The glitch must be non-exclusive for fair use purposes & to avoid unfair advantages.'

Does this mean I can use the gravity platform glitch (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=16733-Gravity-Manipulation&highlight=Gravity)?

LOL, so i checked the Trademark registry and yours isnt official, basically you self trademarked it, which is fine.
BUT someone who also self trademarks it can take you to court. and it could cost you. so id get that official if i was you.

ALSO: trademarks dont do anything but show that your the official sacktastic, someone can make another sacktastic site and you wouldnt be able to do anything about it, just know that yours is the official sacktastic		2010-08-21 09:43:00

@Jedi_1993, I actually wasn't aware of that glitch, but since the info is public on how to do it, it seems fine.

@Ryukofdeath Our trademarks are currently undergoing a pending process to become official. If you are honestly that concerned...stay tuned.

@littlebigmeteor We agree. It's not that big of a deal. And sounds awesome! Can't wait to see it

@Oddmania We made the deadline that way for multiple reasons. First off, we feel not a lot of people know about us yet, so we want to give everyone some time to get to know us and join the contest. Secondly, this is really not the simpliest project to complete. Then you really should warn them that their entry will not be counted if they do not register and post as the official contest page instructs. Because yes, I am the Admin of the site and this is a contest exclusive to our site. Thank you! As the Conditions State: "3. This is not an online create contest. Friends may help you build your level, but in the end, only the person who published the level will receive the prize, if your level has been selected as the winning one."

This has been answered over and over again. You are NOT supposed to make a pure original creation with LBP2 features...that is exactly what LBP2 is for! 		2010-08-31 00:45:00

We would do this in case there isn't enough entries. Apparently, most people seem to like to wait out and publish their level on the last week/day so no one copies their ideas, but in case this doesn't happen and we remain with only roughly 10 or so entries, we would extend the date so people can have more time and there is more competition.		2010-09-11 00:43:00

No, there are no levels in the beta that did not have a full play-through video before the beta started. Also, there are some that aren't in the beta. Like my entry.
So, there is no advantage imo.

It doesn't really matter. You can find videos of full gameplay from most if not all of the levels entered so far-- including yours, Jedi.

I'm glad to see someone is excited for mine.

I started the day this contest was announced. I saw the thread, got on LBP, and began to work.

My level is an EXACT copy. I've spent hours just copying custom stickers and signs. It's pretty polished, but it needs work. If it weren't for the extension of the cut off date, I might not have been able to finish. I'm about half done, and after I finish I'll need maybe a week of inviting all of my friends in to come and break the level. It has some really awesome features, and I think the level has an overall fun and enjoyable vibe to it.

It's caused me neck pains because I would keep having to look back from my TV to the computer to make the level EXACT.

I'd expect it to be published either mid-november, or around November first. 		2010-10-05 20:57:00

To remake an LBP2 level in LBP1?

because I've been playing levels and they have stuff from LBP2, but they're not remakes of the levels...

It really all depends. If the level is just one that uses an LBP2 aspect, such as bounce pads, but is completely original, it isn't really eligible. But if it's a mash-up of different LBP2 aspects + levels such as "Pipe Line Adventure", which was essentially inspired by Pipe Dreams (according to the creator), then it is acceptable. I have played all the published entries so far and have not found one that doesn't really meet the criteria.		2010-10-08 20:01:00

Why yes there are.
And by god we've used them too much...
It's in two pieces now, one is so laggy it's unplayable and the other is 75% filled.

Expect the answer to be no. And if it's yes, I can't let you be the exception and that's the hard part. Other players seem to have coped with this quite well. There is a lot of content (I can not say good or bad, as a judge) but indeed a lot of content and materials in that Caterpillar Climb level someone re-made, just as an example.		2010-10-12 23:04:00

The time seems to really be flying by fast for us! But there are currently no plans to delay the contest further. Although not everyone may have known about us then, the contest has been technically running since August 20th, making it the longest running LBP Contest that I am aware of. You still have a pretty ample amount of time left to get stuff done, just remember, we really hope you will stick around at Sacktastic.com afterwards as well

Good question. We're still a bit unsure. We thought about buying the 2 runner-ups Official Sackboy Plushies, but due to budget cuts (btw, you guys can donate any amount you want by clicking a simple button on our website, no donations yet so funding is difficult) we are probably going to save this prize for a later date *whoopsies, did i just leak that? hehe* - In reply to the LBP2 Beta Idea (which is a good one we have considered), we would have to request 2 Codes from Media Molecule as the code we received is not re-usable nor are we allowed to share it. We will continue to think about this one, but keep in mind that the Beta might not even still be running by the contest end date...Stay Tuned for more Official Word on this from www.Sacktastic.com (http://www.sacktastic.com/)!

Well actually, no one was given codes to give out in the first place, and ours are only usable once and that's it. We have valid reasons not to ask for 2 more crowns:

1. This is Our First Contest, We were very lucky to be promised a crown to give out in the first place. We want to build-up a relationship with Media Molecule that isn't constantly bugging them for goodies. That's not our principle and not our intended purpose either.

2. We hope to hold more Crown Contests in the Future. Especially in LittleBigPlanet 2. If we ask for too many crowns now, our chances of been given more later on lessen. After all, the crown is supposed to be a special piece of DLC and we don't want overkill

3. We believe this contest can truly only have one real winner. Everyone in the end, showed a tremendous amount of effort and honestly, I am really so appreciative and amazed that we already have such an amazingly devoted community to back us up, and for this I will always be grateful. But with all this being said, Prequel to the Sequel appears to be essentially the last major contest for LittleBigPlanet (Original). We loved the idea to begin with, but PttS also serves as a really nice bridge to the New Game. Showing what users are capable of replicating without the proper tools, our entries show off creativity, the power of LBP, and the devotion & skill of the community overall. It's unfortunate that the game has been delayed, but you all will be so happy with the end product, I just know it! The BETA takes my breath away already, so just hang on a bit longer. We hope our website can serve as a place to tie you over in the meantime.

It was quite a surprise to see these results, and actually very disappointing. I am not sure how these levels were judged, but I can tell right away from the results that it is not as it should be. I did not enter this contest, but the anger that I am feeling for who SHOULD have won is almost undescribable by words, but I'll try: Kinda like making you want to kick a puppy as hard as you can. /angry

There are three main places for the winning trio, along with a few different special sections where we will recognize specific levels that did not win, but excelled in particular aspects of the judging process and deserve to be mentioned.
