GamesCom & LBP2 Beta...

Archive: 34 posts

I know this is fiddling with a massive bonfire, just because it includes the words "LBP2 Beta", but still...

I wonder if everyone (not EVERYONE but a load of selected gadders) who show up to witness the awshumness of LBP2 gets the Beta Code? The collision of those two is rather unexplainable otherwise...

Bets about thread locking in how many minutes?

They should let anyone with an x on both sides of their names be in the beta... -_- even if they want to change their name to Richard 88 E like they have on xbox live >:O2010-08-19 07:24:00

Since I believe the beta process is being done the same as the water and not just a regular beta there isn't anyway for them to just throw codes at people. the way I believe it is happening (and hence why the closed beta forum is open) is because after the signups they are adding people to the beta team, which means a manual process of adding the PSN of the user to the entire beta system. So no, people at gamescom are not being given beta codes. They may or may not be given rights to be part of the beta team, but thousands of people wont be.

Also just a reminder that the beta client has not been given out yet, so there is no code for you to get.

Not to spare, I guarantee the beta will go public a week or two after it has gone private (and by week or two I mean a month, or two)

It still feels a bit unfair to keep the fancy beta club as is...

Fewer new people get in...
When beta goes public... havoc...

I highly doubt it. Most people that go there wont even know there is a beta for it. Other than ouir forum members of course.2010-08-19 17:12:00

I really hope they don't open it to the old members first.

I'm sorry, but that's not fair. You guys already got the new stuff first before, why does it need to happen again?

The beta should start at the same time for EVERYONE.

Trust? Experience? Maybe the old beta testers would be more familiar with things and fix the more.. brokener.. stuff first?2010-08-20 03:11:00

Not really. They've never played it either. We should all get an equal chance to show our bug-finding skillz.

I'm sorry, but that's not fair.

Why does it need to be "fair"? And in what way could a beta with limited places ever be "fair". I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that your version of fair, is anything where you get to be in the beta, right?

Theres a good saying about a man in front of a queue waiting for a bus in the rain.

He said once he got on the bus. 'Its ok. Im on, lets go' to the busdriver.

So.. yeah. Don't be selfish or i'll have to say this bad saying again.

No. I believe RANDOM is fair.

In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that you don't see that it's unfair because you've already got free access, right? I mean, of course to you it seems fair because nothing can going to stop you getting in. Hell, if I was in your position, I'd be defending the way it's handled, too.

And I don't think I'm being selfish either. How is saying "The beta should start at the same time for EVERYONE." and "We should all get an equal chance" selfish?? It's the complete opposite! I want everyone to get an equal chance. IMO, communities fail when certain groups get treated differently.

No. I believe RANDOM is fair.

Pft, they said the Water Beta was random, but no one believed them....

And no, I don't think it's exactly "fair" to keep all existing beta participants, but I don't see the benefit to Sony / MM to reconfigure all the accesses to the clients and the forums for several thousand people, just because it's "fairer" to do a refresh on the beta participants. People who don't get in are gonna be disappointed, no matter what mechanism you use, whether it's fair or not (again, see water beta). So why does it need to be fair? It doesn't really change anything overall - there will be some people in the beta and some not in the beta. Some of those not in the beta will be upset.

So what does fairness matter, why should MM go out of their way and put in all that effort, to make it "fair", when the end result will be exactly the same to them?

I wasn't explicitly saying that old members shouldn't get access, my original argument was that everyone who gets to be a part of the beta should be able to access it at the same, because someone mentioned that it's likely the previous beta testers will get in first. It was pretty much just a theoretical argument anyway.

And yes, I agree that to Mm, the result is the same. I know that. It's just that when a company has built such a great rapport with their community, you kind of expect it from them to make sure everyone who supports them gets an equal opportunity, and at the moment I feel a bit left out.

Personally i think the way the beta should be handled is that the first (Insert number here) people to sign up for Playstation plus should get a GUARANTED spot in the beta. This was done with the Medal of Honor beta but u had to preorder it instead, and you would get a guaranted spot in the beta. This is in my opinion, the fairest way.2010-08-20 15:59:00

Oh ffs the entire game is out in a little under 90 days. Stop worrying about the beta and find something else to fill the time.2010-08-20 16:08:00

If people are going to just complain about the beta this much, I wouldnt let anyone else in. Heck I would only make it private and only let HIRED testers in! Hosting private beta like this only lead to community distress and flaming threads. Lets just hope this thread wont go down like LBW did with water beta.

DISCLAIMER: Im not trying to argue with anyone! Not trying to offend!

Lol... always another beta thread

Personally i think having the beta somehow linked to PS+ is not a great idea.
Many of them PS+ owners are spoiled kidz (not looknig at anyone particular, really) who probably won't interact with Mm...

Hm...

90 days = 2160 hours = 129600 minutes = 7776000 seconds = 7776000000 milliseconds...

What a big number.

I think the Beta isn't fair. Ive spent three times more than 80 hrs on LittleBigPlanet and all my friends on my list ( I mean practically everyone) gets the Beta. Even Sean2940 and Geosautus and they haven't been on LittleBigPlanet for like 4 months. LBP2 Beta is totally unfair. omnom nom nom nom nom nom nom2010-09-11 13:06:00

Honestly after staying in the shadows on this subject and watching others (not only on this sure) I'm curious to know if having the platinum trophy or the play create and share trophies had anything to do with the selection. In retrospect this would be somewhat unreliable just as giving it automatically to plus members. trophy hunters and most plus members seem to like violence in games so lbp2 would not be something they would play often (again remember most does not mean all)2010-09-11 22:49:00

The people I know that got in are playing basically only LBP, and they are playing it for hours upon hours everyday.

The people I know that have it basically play no other games.

Well if that is the case then hopefully I will get in. That is really the only game I play. Other than trying demos sometimes or when I buy a new (which I haven't in a long time) all I play is LBP. Here is to praying I get in.2010-09-12 02:39:00

I would have fallen in that category a few months back... then I found the true joys of WipeOut HD, but still spent excessive hours in LBP...
