It sounds almost exactly like Sigur Ros. Hating Justin Bieber should only make you more curious about this very unusual occurence. I think it's pretty amazing actually - Listen to the original song for the first 10 seconds or so (come on, hang in there, you can do it): (WARNING: Only the first ten seconds! It takes a minute and a half to reach the end of just those first ten seconds of the original song. You can tell it's the same original song - and yet it's transformed, completely into something else, something strikingly lovely. Honestly, when are you going to experience something like that? The drums slowed way down sound like ocean waves breaking on a shoal. His squeaking girly-voice takes on an otherworldy wail. It's haunting in the strangest way. Some people describe it as heaven's music. With the breaking waves and the sorrowful wail, I would describe this as the music played by the sirens, luring sailors to shipwreck and ruin. I was initially disappointed by the responses as I know people can be closed minded and not willing to change opinions of something they already hate (though this is really form an opinion on an entirely different beast). | Actually, as a rock/metal fan who despises teeny pop, I say Bieber should get respect. Unlike most of his contemporaries, Bieber plays a variety of musical instruments, writes his own material and is able to put on a good live performance without miming. He is actually a genuinely talented young man who is unusually modest about himself in interviews, and not just another of those "purdy face" brat kids who doesn't know a minim from a quaver, but couldn't care anyway as long as they get famous. It's useful to speed up a song without getting a ridiculous high-pitched voice. Someone actually tried to pull a hoax and post the very same track under a band name in order to try to convince people it was a fraud. However, it is the real deal. you're right, the track isn't actually slowed down. It's actually called "time-stretching". It's like slowing it down and auto-adjusting for pitch. So you get the song in "slow motion" without all the pitch distortion. If you really try listening to a segment from the full-speed "u smile" and then listen to the same segment of the stretched version, you'll be able to hear that it's the real deal. He is IN FACT, a very technically talented guy. He plays a variety of instruments and writes his own music - that's already more than a majority of pop artists today. In response to this people may say, "Yeah? Well, even though he writes his own music, IT SUCKS." There is no such thing as BAD music. Unless you are looking from a TECHNICAL perspective, based on their skill. Even then, everyone's skills will be loved or hated, sided with or opposed to and so it is difficult to truly pin down the answer to what skill is in the eyes of the general society. People might try to oppose this, but let's face it. Most people think Justin Bieber's music is BAD in this thread, yet millions of other people think it's great. Who's right? No one. It's totally subjective, as with all music. I personally don't like Justin Beiber's music one bit and have given him a fair listen, but I can't at all say he is not talented or say that I hate him. Have any of you MET Justin? Has he done something to you that would give you a fair reason to hate him? I doubt it. By the way, I love the song 800% slower. It's a truly moving piece that can capture many emotions. Cool! I normally am not one for ambient music but this is really good. | To be completely honest, I know every Justin Bieber song (and joke ) there is as one of my daughters is mad keen on him. I hear them day in and day out. His songs (which he doesn't write, from what I understand) are actually for the most part really well written songs - and very well produced. The fact that he's the age he is and is a pretty boy is really neither here nor there, only in terms of how it makes other teen males feel it seems (which is quite telling, really). Do I like him? Well, I don't DISlike him, although he was a rude little git to a few peeps while here in Australia, but he could've been having a bad day, who knows? At the end of the day, he's making a lot of little girlies very happy and making a truckload of cash in the process, and perhaps that's what the hostility towards him is really aimed at?? Bremnen is quite right, it's all about marketing to a target audience. He probably hasn't even had a girlfriend before, but that's irrelevant. If all those little Bieber loving girlies fork out for songs that make them either feel they're in with a chance or that they want to console him, or whatever, that's a winning recipe for the big bucks. If he sang about Transformers and XBox or whatever else he's probably really interested in.. well, not so interesting for his biggest downloading demographic. Record companies are generally not idiots. And Oddmania - I agree that Baby is not one of his better songs. Yeah the lyrics are stupid, but how many hits have had the most banal lyrics? Plus my 2 year old loves that one and she can sing along with it easily, so it's grown on me. I heard 'U Smile' sung on YouTube by a fully grown, hormonally stable male and it sounded fabulous.
