Money

Archive: 26 posts

As the title so wonderfully states I thought a thread on money might be interesting.

Generally I'm not too fussed about the stuff. I don't have a job and don't really spend much money. When I do spend money though it's usually spent on having a good time with my friends, tickets to a car show, car magazines (yes, cars are pretty much my life) or technology e.g. ipod. All expensive things and therein lies the problem.

However I often find money, due to the fact I usually walk looking down, but that's another story.

So what do all of you think of money? What do you spend it on? Do you lose it? Find it?

But then score bubbles would be evil, and you wouldn't want that now would you

Twinkies!
I think it would be best to keep currency inedible, as well as something that isn't perishable.

Sometimes I wish I had a job and a constant flow of money, but then I remember that if i had a job I'd be working

I spend my money maintaining two households and many mouths to feed, still managing to feed myself, put the clothes on my back, metro fare, gasoline, occasional video game.

I don't have a job and am living off of savings from previous businesses.

Money isn't evil, people are evil. There was theft and robbery since before money was invented, as long as someone has something someone else doesn't that will incite greed.

Money is not the cause of all crimes. It may be the cause of a lot of crimes, but it certainly is not the cause of all of them. Besides, isn't it the lack of money (well, purchasing power) and resources that make life hard in a poor economy?

Also, well said Foofles.

Money is a necessary evil. It can corrupt, or become an obsession. People will fight over it, ruin friendships and ignore morals in order to gain more of it. But without it, would we be as technologically advanced? If no one was paying people to research new technologies, would anyone bother? Would people still work in manufacturing? Sales?

Probably not, and as a result we would have a far less interesting, fun community. It brings trouble to some, however it is just another aspect of the world which can become the aim of corrupt, greedy people, in the same way as land can. Without it we would be stuck, with it we advance. It is nothing more than a theory. We don't have money, we have paper and metal that represent value.

Meh, i don't know where i am going with this.

I'm saving up for a laptop
Nice, I want a new computer myself. At the moment mine's slow, the power plug doesn't stay in properly, the sound's gone and it's a huge thing.

I'm probably just going to wait and get one as an 18th birthday present though. Right now my moneys going towards schoolies, which is a week long celebration seniors have after graduating, and a new PS3 with LBP2, some of which is getting paid for as a christmas present.

I have a job and use my money to help keep a roof over the head of my wife, my son, and myself.

I live in a winter town... That means our economy revolves around folks who can't take the cold up north and come down here to get away from it in the wintertime, so around November some of you may notice I'm much less active on interwebs and video games.
During the wintertime, I get lots of hours and I make bank. I spend most of it responsibly, but we have been known to splurge a little too much. During the summer I work less and therefore make less money. We scrape by, but I enjoy the extra time with my family and hobbies.

I used to think money was evil when I was broke, and tended to not think about it much when I have more than enough. Now I know it's not the money that's good or bad, but my attitude toward the having/not having of it.

If money is the root of all evil, then we must all be evil then. Not necessarily though. It is only evil when corrupt people steal to get it. Plus, money can stir up jealously too which can get ugly.

I have no problem with getting money because of my generous relatives. If it wasn't for my aunt, I would not have my PS3 and LBP last Christmas. Now, all I need is a bigger HD tv. It won't be long until I get that. Saving money for the things you really want does wonders for the wallet.
