How'd You Think of Making This Series?

I get this question a lot. After playing some awesome VelcroJonze levels, I decided to make a scenery level with a few little combos. So I was just putting bubbles around randomly for a scenery level like Velcro, but then I thought to myself "Why not make this focused on huge combos?" So I sketched out how I was going to do this, and made the whole level. While in the process, I was going through my objects and came across a red arrow, and I though, "Now I can make the combos crazier because I could make secrets to emitting arrows!!" A presto, the first level was created, receiving great feedback. I plotted a story and decided what themes the next few levels would be, which led to the idea of making this a 4-Part series.

Featuring 3 garden areas of combo-filled bubbles and secrets, high scores will be an achievement! Part 1 of 4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAVcdx4O3as

Ok, got a good chain going... 8x... doing well through this section... 11x... almost got it... *poof* DANG IT. Ok, restart. Sorry, no time to write comments for this one, too busy finding secrets and perfecting my extreme bubble chains. Ok, going through the first section again.. *poof* AGH!!! Somehow though, I love the abuse. Restart.I love the smell of bubble chains in the morning! There are enough bubble combos in this level for the morning, afternoon, evening, and all of next week. Whet your appetite for things that go pop in a lovely little jaunt through the garden, and see just how long you can continue your chain..... before your multiplier goes pop.No level will have you cursing and shouting just to come back for more as much as this one. The trick to this is to keep a combo going throughout each of three well designed sections, but this simple premise quickly gives way to finding secrets, quick ways around the courses and keeping up a huge chain of bubbles. We await the next in the series with baited breath. Ah…the B. ubblefloris, a rare bulbous plant endemic to the valmassoi grasslands. Harvest the plant’s potency to keep your Sack happy with high-scoring combos in this bubbalicious botanical paradise, and be sure to find all the secret spots if you want to unlock a trove at the end. Like eating Pringles on a lazy summer afternoon, you’ll find yourself saying, “Okay, one last time!” over and over again.

Thread Feedback for A Bubbly Garden:

l loved it,there were insane bubble combos everywhere.l loved the music (it's my favorite track) it was fitting and you had some good looking evironments. It's a very enjoyable level that l rated 5 stars and hearted.

This level is simple, but has so much replay value, fantastic job! 5 stars.

...A very fun level that caters to high score hunters! Lots of clean level design, and multiple paths make it a joy to run through...

Such a simple idea, but so well executed. The arrows/secrets are cleverly hidden and add even more replay value. I love collecting bubbles and some of the chains you can wrack up in this level are insane!... ...Excellent level, easily worthy of :star::star::star::star::star: and a bubble <3

This is my kind of level, I am a high score hunter, so I will be playing this one for a long time coming. Those were some great combos!! I loved ripping through your level like a bat out of hell!! The only rest was between sections, then off on another chain!! The secret sections were a nice touch and gave more meaning to exploring your environments. It was good to have that as a nice change of pace between the combo sections. Nice choice of materials, and excellent gameplay, plus endless replayabilty, because some of those chains are very challenging. You are becoming a great creator. I have seen alot of good things from you, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Five stars, a heart, and another heart for creator. <3 Great job!!

There are bubble combo levels, bubble combo levels, and BUBBLE COMBO LEVELS!!!1! - yours is in the last category. Everything is extremely well thought out, and after activating one of the secrets I realized exactly how well designed everything was. Man, that's some crazy combo action there, and it isn't just random! Man, this is a score hunter's paradise. Visually the level is well done if not a bit on the simplistic side. The point of the level (pun not intended) is not the visuals though, it's the gameplay, and for that you receive top marks.

The multiple paths and score chaining options just never seem to end, and the frantic platform hopping madness of trying to keep that multiplier going was just fantastic. The music choice and background go well together, and I really can't complain too much about that. The 'Gardens' theme seemed like kind of a "safe" choice, but then again it is a good combination that works well together. Your use of secret and bonus areas is pure genius and very well implemented - it adds a surprising amount of replay value to this already addictive level. Yep, this one is staying on my PSP for a while!

Not loads from the complaint department. It's not always exactly clear what direction to head on some of the multiple paths, but that's also part of the fun of the level.

Well, that's all I've got for this one. I'm amazed at how fun and entertaining this level turned out to be for such a simple premise. Great job on this one and thanks again for waiting! 5 stars, a heart, and a creator heart.

Hi valmassoi! You created very cool platformer level with many bubbles chains! I love it! And very cool, that you added some secrets onto the level. Players have good reason to replay this level again and again. I played it 5 times and it was fun! I love it. Very cool environments, smart obstacles placements, good level flow and mechanics. I gave you 5 stars and heart for this level!

Hey valmassoi, once I saw the title I knew I had to download it. What a great level! I loved how you broke it up in sections. The chains themselves were perfectly balanced with a few tough spots to keep things interesting. While the play of the level itself is simple the concept and execution was masterful. Awesome level and a amazing start to a much anticipated series for me =) 5 :star:s and a <3

It annoys me when creators don't put enough bubbles in a level for some nice combos. The layout of the level is good. I think the arrows pointing out combos are a great idea, and the fact that you can get extremely large combos is awesome. My highest was 26x, and no other level has that high of a combo that I know of, aside from huge bubble piles. The level is pretty short, but I think it is perfectly fine because it makes replaying for higher scores more inviting. Overall, I rated the level :star::star::star::star::star:
I am really looking forward to the next installment in this series!

Hi, valmassoi! Congrats for Community Spotlight!
This level is simple, but very good and funny. I rated it with :star::star::star::star::star: and <3.

This level is more addictive than crack, and a whole lot more fun!! Seriously, you did a great job, and I can't wait for the next installments.

ABG is easily in my top five levels. Some levels inspire people to create. This level had the opposite effect on me, simply because I could not stop playing it. ; ) I was finally able to get the 2nd spot but the perfect run has alluded me.

The level was just AMAZING and really really fun! The level was really good platform level and really Bubbly (thats a good thing). I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3. This level might be your best level so keep it up. I cant wait to play your next level that you will create.

Part I: Playthrough

Oh look, it's this level again. Only like the 47th time I've played through it. ;-)

So right off the bat, everything looks great. It's clear you really spent some time corner editing this. This time, I'm actually taking notice of a few new things - like the tiny little leaves used to make the grass really pop. The secret thing is a really good idea. Helpful to those like me who see how relatively low their score is and say WTFBBQ.

Now then, dooooown the mountain! I like the simple platforming here - it's actually refreshing to see something so muted in a platformer, what with people like Jonze and I flinging sacks around like there's no tomorrow. Also, sliders are a great idea. Moar running and jumping in area two - nice waterfall by the way.

Then, uhm... more running and jumping and bubbles, and uhm... Well, rather than me try to describe those events in different ways over and over, I'll leave it at this: playing through this level is a blast, even if it is just simple mechanics.

Part II: Summary
Wow, if gardens could really grow this awesome, you'd have Blue the botanist today. :-D

When I first heard about this, I thought it would be another Jonze level - but this feels much different. It's a nice take on platformers compared to what I've seen in other levels, and running combos is fun yet frantic. Trying to reach that (g** ******* m***** **********) next bubble before your combo ends makes the level all that much more fun.

Graphics are another great area. Let's be honest here: graphics weren't exactly the high point of your previous levels, but this is different - they're great! Stickers, lots and lots of stickers create an inviting atmosphere, and tiny corner editing is impressive as well.

Great level dude.

Part III: Review

Looks: 5/5
Platforming: 5/5
Story: Not Available
Originality: 4/5
Replay Value: 5/5

The Good: So... many... bubbles! And lots of great platforming too!
The Ugly: You say the next one is only 1/3 done! D-:

Five stars and a bubble-stuffed heart!

Bubbly Gardens was a visual feast.

PSN: Valmassoi
Level Name: The Bubbly Garden

Gameplay: I'm sure that Val will be pleased to hear that these are the kinds of games that make LBP on PSP awesome! A one-chain platformer is a level where you can play it and get all the score bubbles in one chain and so ups the competitiveness of the leaderboard a million times over. I'm personally a big fan of these style of levels. The obstacles and gamelplay themselves... are just as awesome, sackboy will be jumping and swinging all over the screen as the gameplay makes good use of the z and y axis whilst keeping up the traditional left-to-right gameplay. Arguably some people may find the gameplay becomes a bit stale from repitition as there are perhaps one too many hang slides but the pace of the level ensures that you won't find it very boring anyway. The level of difficulty is spot on as the odd jump will be harder than the others to keep your trail of thought active whilst you try to keep that chaining boosting. Each of the three sections that the level is seperated into has a secret sticker switch which unlocks a jackpot at then end which is a nice touch. There weren't many set pieces in the level but that's not a big problem as the top notch design and scenery throughout more than makes up for that.
22%
Scenery: The design and scenery are great throughout. The selection of materials are brilliant and the use of stickers pays great compliment to the level. The forever placement of bubbles obviously took a great amount of time and saves the player getting lost as to where to get his next link to score bubbles. There is also a great depth to the level as the use of all 5 layers are poifect as well The level is exemplary in how it continues to look fresh with even a small amount of materials by it's differing design and use of stickers.
21%
Replayability: I'm a fan of the one-chain levels and I don't think there will ever be a more appealing style of level as far as platforming goes. This is benefitted by the great quality of the level as well, there is a large amount of score bubbles which makes the leaderboard subject to a wide range of scores which is what every level should strive to do in all forms of LBP. I think that people should be generally proud of themselves if they make the top 10 on this level because of the manner of the level so for you play mode glory hunters this is a great level to sink your teeth into. Also this might possibly be a new style of level for any of you that haven't played TOW so this might earn it's place on your downloaded list because of it's originality.
23%
Bonus:
The level is a great advert for the PSP and I love how great the design and finish of the level is 15%
The style of level is brilliant and I think that levels like this will soon make the one-chain platformer much more famous and prominant than it already is 8%
So in total this level scores an astounding 89% which I think is the highest score I have EVER given as a reviewer, the level rocks and you will know about it. The level will certainly hold its pace on your downloaded level list and will possibly inspire you back into create mode. Few levels achieve a balance between a platformer and minigame as well as this and if you don't find the time to play this level then it really is your loss. Brilliant level Val

Another great combo level val! These are realy fun! and i bet i will be trying for the top spot soon. 5 stars and a heart!

nice scenery and the platforms that bobbed up and down were fun. i never get tierd of those.
bouncy bouncy bouncy...

I played this level yesterday and I think it is amazing. The scenery looks very good. I gave you 5:star: and a<3.

look, you've got a awsome sequel to a awsome level right there! why?

well, becouse i managed to get to combos that reach "x32", and without those lame emitters that never stop, and i love combos

the idea of the pink arrows that show you the way to the area combo is awsome too, and for some incredible luck i've managed to find all of the secrets without looking for them, i was just running and out of the sudden a new place appears, i liked it

and the idea of a reward for those who find the secret places is nice too, becouse it allows you to raise your score, and a good score a day lets keeps sackboy happy... and say hooray"

OVERALL:

-nice level with nice evironment, nice combos and nice secrets

soooo...
93/100
and i gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3

Part I: Playthrough
I managed to hold off on playing it until now, so this is first-time feedback.

Looks great off the bat, with the flowers and the cloud. Love the well area, especally because the well itself looks great. Onward, your trees look great, as does the material selection. The land really pops! I know this will seem a bit like cheating... but that's really all I wrote for playthrough. I was enjoying it too much to write!

Part II: Summary
Well, this is another great addition to what's sure to be my favorite series since Timber Canyon! First and foremost, gameplay. The gameplay remains simple but fun. I like the still-awesome fast pace of bubble collecting, having to jump at exactly the right place, change layers at the perfect time, it's really great!

Graphics are also awesome. You picked perfect ground for this level, and your near-excessive use of stickers created a fun setting. I'm very, very glad to see the perfectly edited trees - if I recall, copypasta trees were one complaint I had about Garden. Nice work there. As for story, not much, but what there was left me craving more.

Part III: Review
Looks: 5/5
Platforming: 4/5
Story: 5/5
Originality: 4/5
Replay Value: 5/5

The Good: Lots of fun graphics and a cool story.

Five stars and a bubble-stuffed heart!

Anyone who like to munching bubble combos, this is a feast. Be warned, Val's Bubbly series are more than a little addictive.

The level was just AMAZING and really bubbly! It was full of bubbles and i like it that way, becouse it is fun to collect bubbles and get bubble combos! I also liked the secrets. I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3. I cant wait to play your next levels and collect every bubbles on it. really good work on this bubbly level!

Will somebody spotlight this level already!!?

Thanks for making these levels. They are a blast to run through. Great for a few minutes of non stop entertainment. I liked this one just as much as the first one. Munching your perfectly placed bubbles is always fun, and I never can get enough of it. I always play these levels multiple times. The materials were perfect for your theme here, I could not have pick anything better if I tried.

Your platforming was golden, you are getting very good at making very fluid platforming sequences, and I enjoy that so much in you levels. I have no criticisms at all for you, I think you did a wonderful job on this.

Another heart for you my friend!! <3

Upcoming Story *Help Needed*

Story time! If you're interested this is what I have planned out for the "story" of what happens in this series click the spoiler. If you don't want me to spoil the story, don't look. But It'd be great if some people give me suggestions on what should be different or better.

So during the forest level you find the "elder" tree and he gives you a mysterious seed. You plant the mysterious seed, become very tired, and sleep. The level ends. In A Bubbly Dream, you do all that awesome platforming and stuff in an abstract dream till you get to the end. A Bubbly End is going to be the one with most the story. ,You find a the seed created a huge beanstalk to the sky. You climb up it and find a castle in the clouds. Naturally you enter the castle. You notice that there are far more bubbles here than any other place you've been to. Turns out it's a bubble factory. More platforming and you find the machine the creates all of lbp's bubbles. However, right when you get there it shuts down and stops creating them. Confused, you enter the next room where the wire is connected and see it's unplugged. This is where the story is a little foggy. I think I'm going to have a boss of some-sort, but I'm not too sure... So a thing I need help on is what to do here. Thanks!

So black stuccoo for the background. And I guess I'll choose a metal. Yeah and lots of gas for sewage stuff. Thanks for suggesting stuff, I would of never thought of putting in rat noises and SFX

Brown Rusty metal, Iron, or concrete of some kind would be good options for materials. Green half tone(I think that's the name) stickers look like dripping sewage. Rust patch sickers for dirt, etc. Basically make it look dirty.2010-08-17 02:01:00

Thanks for your suggestions you guys! Unfortunately I played a level that has a very similar idea to my well to sewer idea, so I decided not to do that. If I did, I would be afraid he would think I copied his idea. (Which I didn't)! Anyways, I completely revised the post.2010-08-21 19:44:00

i dont know, the one who is going to create an awsome level ain't me! (it is you ofc )

Sorry, I just saw this. I was actually thinking of doing a level plays itself kind of thing, but I figured it just wouldn't work with the classic bubble combo idea.
