Building a complete wooden coaster + kit

Archive: 3 posts

Hi there.

I've been playing LittleBigPlanet since Christmas 08, and I've always been online but recently I created a new account as I didn't like my previous PSN name.

Right now, I'm constructing a wooden coaster system, based upon 10x10 cube blocks that I am planning on giving away with the level when complete. Has anyone else done something like this in the past? I know that most rollercoasters in LittleBigPlanet are mostly the same (single steel beam with a 4-car thing connected with springs, powered by rockets) but the one that I'm making is designed to be very like a real-life wooden coaster (e.g. at top of hill, there will be real air-time and the cars are free to move vertically).

I haven't uploaded it yet, nor have I created the actual track layout yet. My idea is for the level to have the track, but the first time you try and go on the coaster the chain-lift system falls apart and you roll back into the station. Then you must complete a puzzle to get a little backup steam engine to push it up the first hill, but it malfunctions and causes the coaster to speed out of control, with the level/track ending as the track gives way and the cars and their riders crashing into the scoreboard.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. (my PSN is the same as my LBPCentral name)

This sounds like a funny little level!

I think it will be hard making individual supports for the coaster so you might just have to use the garden lattice material.

Although I think it will be a welcome suprise to the community rollercoaster levels to have to solve a puzzle to fix a broken ride

I've finished the kit, and yes it obviously uses the Gardens Lattice material. One annoying problem I have found is that when I flip the pieces to make downhill slopes, the colour of the lattice changes to an odd d21ark brown.

A second issue is that the air-time at the crest of a hill has some problems, since it falls down the other side of the hill and turns upside down. If you want, I could create a level with the kit alone (flat, station, station end, flat-gentle, gentle, gentle-medium, medium, medium-steep, steep, steep-medium, medium-gentle, gentle-flat, MM orientation switcher, FF orientation switcher (since the track fits together like a Brio kit [the wooden toy train set] and the train itself.

Also, I've checked and it appears there are no coasters of this design on the Community. I'm actually amazed, since it seems like such an obvious design.
