Have game, will answer questions. WARNING SPOILERS

Archive: 101 posts

Hi guys,

As some of you know, I was one of the lucky ones and have a copy of the full game right now. I'm about to finish the last level and will happily answer anyone's questions about the single player story mode. I/we have been playing it both one and two player, so there's plenty I should be able to answer. Any questions with the answers being spoilers WILL be properly spoiler-tagged, so you don't need to worry about ruining anything that you don't want to know.

Sadly, servers aren't up unitl launch, so I'm only doing general game and storyline questions at the moment.

Ask away.

How long has the story taken to complete?2008-10-19 21:59:00

Around 7-8 hours. That's with me vaugley hunting for prize bubbles, but not going all out. I've actually spent closer to 20 on the game, but that's repeating levels in co-op, looking for hidden bubbles, and trying to beat my high scores on the minigames. It's probably going to take me roughly 30-35 in total, depending on how hard the bubbles are to find.

You could probably blast through it in 5 if you aren't trying at all to get bubbles, evem less on a speed run. But, that's a speed run.

Have you tried create yet as most of us on here are dying to know if there is any other tools and stuff. Even if your not interested in in create i'm sure some would appreciate if you just quickly dipped into it for us and either take a pic of the tools and materials or list them
Thanks

Cool, that's more or less the way I plan on playing anyway, nice to see it's got a good long story!

I have been in create a little, mainly just to play around, as when I first got the copy I had no idea if it would be patched and be compatable with everyone else's disks.

From what I could see, there wasn't any new tools that weren't in the beta. I shall go through tomorrow however after I have completed the game, in case any more unlock, to list them all in case there are any I've missed that weren't in the beta.

haha ya I know he is joking

Ya I can't believe I just found out about this game though... I've had my PS3 for about half a year now too.

Haha ya I was all ready to go buy the game on Tuesday and then I wake up to read the delay and I thought "**** this stuff always happens to me when I want something" So this sort of stuff doesn't surprise me anymore, I'm unlucky that way.

You should make a Montreal Canadiens level to celebrate the 100 year anniversary btw

Wow, lots of questions. Last answers tonight, keep asking, more in the morning.

No ice is, sadly, correct.

Mouse accessories, None to report, I haven't got 100% yet, but can't see anything. You should be able to put something together yet.

Every level is playable in co-op. Some are easier because of it, others are more challenging.

Maltay, sorry to be the bearer of what I presume is bad news. Would it help if I said that the 7-8 hours are among the best I've spent platforming in years and that re-running through levels in co-op and again to get 100% etc, the levels are still great?

3 levels per section, plus 3 minigames. 8 sections in total.

Names of lands and creators in next post as I want to get them right. Will be spoiler tagged for those who don't want to know.

Hey that's not a half bad idea! I'm not a huge hockey fan, but I do enjoy watching the Canadians whenever a game is on. I'm very likely going to do that. Thanks for the idea!

What lights can be added in create mode? Are there spotlights? If so, what options can you tweak on those?2008-10-20 03:23:00

8x3 is 24. 24 of each. Well, 25 main levels. Some of the minigame levels you could make an argument for there being more, but they are really just the same levels with some extra difficulty. Same concept, similar layout. So I'd say 49 myself.

Lights/Spotlights- There are various other designs of lights, all with the same tweaks that can be applied to them, some are very similar to spotlights, most can quite easily be set to either swing from similar to foam, or made to rotate or move independantly. There is also, I'm sure, a way to make them follow Sackboy, but I haven't quite worked that one out yet...

Overall completion score is a touch over 80% at the moment. Mainly because I have been through all the main levels twice, once single player, once co-op. Some parts I personally won't be able to get until the release because they require more than 2 sackboys to reach, and I only have 2 controllers.

Level names - Creator Names

The Gardens - The King
The Savannah - Zola
The Wedding - The Bride
The Canyon - Uncle Jalapeno (sp?)
The Metropolis - Mags the Mechanic
The Islands - Gandmaster Sensei
The Temple - The Magician
The Wilderness - The Collector

Could you attach a light to an object that has a brain that is programmed to follow Sackboy? I don't have the game (or even a PS3) so I have no idea if it's possible, but it seems like it would work.

Yes, that's something I am working on, I want to try and make it follow sackboy, but not be in the way. I'm thinking have the radius very wide and put the enemy on a layer far above sackboy. I'm working on it.

Trophies are okay. I'd say I have roughly 1/3rd of them. Maybe a little more. I haven't been specifically trying to unlock them yet, mainly focusing on the storyline. Some will be fun to do, others, such as Ace every level, will not. The last two levels will be very difficult to achieve without dying once!2008-10-20 16:50:00

I'm almost at 100% everything. Just got the last level group to do (I'm at the 4x sackboy area in the first of those levels. gotta get four controllers hooked up (I'm doing all those things just by myself, some are annoying, controlling more than one sackboy can be more than a little difficult in some areas :o)).
I'm guessing I will not be the first to get there though, because I never am the first, but oh well, my goal was just to get to 100% everything before the game is released, which was made a little easier with the delay. (went a few days without playing... I doubt I'll finish by tomorrow)
(But I'm not gonna answer questions. I'll leave that to you. )

lolz, just realised I'm in the *second to last* level group, the temples. Don't know why I forgot about the wilderness.

The Bunker is indeed one of the last levels, and is a difficult one. There are lots of moving parts and platforms, lots of electricity and danger. It has a military/snow type theme and is one of my favorite levels in the game.

Just got 100% on the third "temples" level... by myself. The 2x sackboy thing in that was crazy to do on my own, but I did it (cheated a little, hehe, there's a way to skip a bunch of it just using one sackboy. So you do it for both individually, and then you have to do the rest as 2x sackboy (which is tough, but not very long). If that makes sense...).

The sneakers, which you got in the beta by completing a map which used either the metropolis or the canyon template (can't remember which), are one of the rewards. The sneakers are called "Stitched Button Eyes" in-game. Lolz bug. >_>

(Hope you don't mind me posting about that in your topic. Seems pointless to make a new thread.)

Was the game more or less than you anticipated?

How long do you think this game will last for you?

If you delete an object that you have collected from one of the story levels, can you ever get it back?

And do you know if you have, for example 1546/1682 objects or whatever?

Last but no means least, if you collect something in a level, play it again then dont collect that item but get everything else, do you get 100%?

Much thanks,

Will.

That question could be answered by the beta'ers as well. Yes, you don't have to collect every object in one run to get 100%. It keeps all of your collectables in a tidy little grid so you know if you missed something in a level. Also, once you obtain an item, that item is no longer a prize bubble, just becomes a larger point bubble for later runs.

edit : Thanks for stealing my thunder Miffy >.>

Was the game more or less than you anticipated?
The game itself, more. The engine, the levels that MM had made, shorter than I expected and fewer than I expected, but still surprisingly good. The story itself? An utter, utter dissapointment. Maybe it's just me getting cynical but the storyline itself seemed massively tacked on. It didn't even really start until world 6. There were a few allusions before that, but it just seemed forced. Honestly, The original Super Mario Bros story was better. (obviously all opinion, but there you go). In fact, expect a full rant on this point come release, I don't want to spoil any thing by actually going into details.

I still heartily reccomend the game, just don't expect the storyline to wow you. Additionally, don't allow my jaded cynicism cloud your mind. The simplistic story may appeal to you. I just expected more from such a creative team.

How long do you think this game will last for you?
How long is a piece of string? For the immediate future, I will keep dipping in and out of user created levels and trying them out. As long as I can keep finding good ones, quite a while. I grew up on platformers. LBP is like a big slice of childhood and home for me.

If you delete an object that you have collected from one of the story levels, can you ever get it back? As far as I'm aware, you can't delete those. I wouldn't care to try!

And do you know if you have, for example 1546/1682 objects or whatever? No overall score counter. It would be possible to find out manually, but it'd be a pain.

Last but no means least, if you collect something in a level, play it again then dont collect that item but get everything else, do you get 100%?

As people have already mentioned, yes.

I did a local store run today, no luck

Is it possible to connect lights to anything (i.e. sensor switch) to turn them on or off, or are they just always on?

On that same subject, can you connect two of the little connectors to the same object, or is it like in the beta, where it's restricted to a one connector per object?

Can you sort your custom objects? Like lets say I make a tree and save it, can I put it in the shape menu (next to the circles, triangles, etc.)? Is there any kind of sorting aside from naming them, such as putting dividers between different kinds of objects, like there are for the objects from story mode (animal, vehicle, story character, etc.)?

Is there any way to 'paint' an object? In the beta when I tried to use a colored sticker and 'paint' and object, it just ended up coloring the entire object.

Is it possible, in create mode, to move your ENTIRE level a certain direction? When I had the beta, I took a very stream of consciousness thought process to my levels, and on one occasion ended running into the permanent level side. Can you select the whole thing and move it? I tried this with mixed success in the beta.

Ugh, 6 days isn't that long, although I said that last week

A question i have is if you attach a motor bolt to a piece of the (pink i think??) floaty material (the one that just floats and doesn't just rise) and just put it in thin air and attach a 3way switch to the motor. When you pull the switch does the material spin around on it's axis. If not, what about if you attach 2 say identical circles of that material together with the motor bolt (like one in front of the other so it still only looks like one face on) does at least one of them spin.

I know this is a very specific question, but it's very important for a level idea i have lol
THANKS for anyone that could try this for me and tell me what happens

Lights can be connected to switches.

One switch per object.

Is there any kind of sorting aside from naming them, such as putting dividers between different kinds of objects, like there are for the objects from story mode (animal, vehicle, story character, etc.)?
Sorting is by "Newest" "Category" and "Theme" to be honest, I haven't really mastered sorting things effectively, I just search for things and heart the things I'm going to use a lot.

Is there any way to 'paint' an object? In the beta when I tried to use a colored sticker and 'paint' and object, it just ended up coloring the entire object.
As far as I can tell, just stickers. Try building the object apart and stickering the pieces seperately, then gluing it together?

Is it possible, in create mode, to move your ENTIRE level a certain direction? When I had the beta, I took a very stream of consciousness thought process to my levels, and on one occasion ended running into the permanent level side. Can you select the whole thing and move it? I tried this with mixed success in the beta.
As far as I can tell, only if the entire level is glued together.

Sack Jake, as CC has said, you can change the colour of Horrible Gas. Ice is not in the game. No reason has been mentioned in any interview so far.

Dorien, I tried several times, couldn't get anything to work, I'm going to give it another go later for you, but it doesn't look likely.

Hey Matt (great name btw) Still working on acing everything. I'm up to world 6, last level. I'm a bit further behind my original schedule, work's do got in the way, then R2 beta. I'm looking forward to seeing it when I do get it. Sadly, won't be able to get 100% until release, lack of 2 more controllers you see.

Callahan, glad I could help.

"Donkey Show" has. I added him on PSN and checked out his trophies, and he had PLAY already O_O

I have it too, that's for acing everything.

Don't look in the "*Spoiler* Cool!" thread as it, uh, spoils the reward. .../me sees you just posted there heh

Yup. I don't mind spoiling the reward. It's a cool reward, gives me reason to try for it, as I don't think it will be easy to get!

Anyway, back on topic. Anyone got any more questions for us? My question to those who also have the game, what do you think of my thoughts on the story? Lets either keep that spoiler free though or take it to PM, because I don't want to spoil it for others.

In the beta, I made a object with a candle flame attached and put wheels and a brain on, then set it to "follow".

Boom, instant spotlight.

Although, I bet you could do something similar with loads of sensor switches and lights, so whichever light you're directly under, activates.

Is it possible, in create mode, to move your ENTIRE level a certain direction? When I had the beta, I took a very stream of consciousness thought process to my levels, and on one occasion ended running into the permanent level side. Can you select the whole thing and move it? I tried this with mixed success in the beta.
As far as I can tell, only if the entire level is glued together.

.

You can select the object saver tool and copy the entire level. It works, I tried it in the beta to move a whole level into a bigger level.

Hi, does anyone know why objects fade away sometimes when creating them?

I'm creating a level from a video game which involves several rusty metal walkways at different heights, and upon creating the second one (working from the bottom and going upwards), either the top or the bottom one (usually the top) will fade away into nothingness when I unpause. I've secured the walkways fine with stiff rods (!), i've used the option a good few times now and I'm just baffled by this though.

Thanks in advance.

You know, if you wanted to move your level to a bigger level, you could've just copied it from your 'My Moon' and selected a bigger crater to copy it to. Then you just delete the old one.

Sometimes when an object of yours is under pressure because it is in between a space that is too small for it to fit, or when it is beneath a heavy, large object, it will be crushed away.

Are The Collector's Lair and the boss battle against the Collector two different levels?

I doubt it. The boss battle isn't even big scale. There wouldn't really need to be a whole separate level for the boss.

Also, I thought that there was an option for you to 'Lock' a level before you published it, so that other people couldn't copy it. In the beta, the 'Lock' option said something along the lines of: 'This setting requires finding a key before playing this level.' I can't really find out how to word my question, so could you just do me the favor of just explaning to me what you know that might help me? Thanks.

The Lock function actually made a level unlockable.

Which means players can't play it unless they find the key to it first.

So, you have to place a key in a whole 'nother level? Will they even see the locked level if they don't have the key yet? (For example: You try to play it, and it says 'Sorry, but a key must be obtained to play this level.&apos

Yes. Which is good because if it was one level it would be a little more annoying to ace it. >_>

Speaking of the battle... I was expecting a bit more, I don't know if anyone else felt the same? I didn't even realize he WAS the boss, thought he was just some kind of minion! I hope that doesn't make me sound like my standards are really high or anything.

Plus I can't believe someone got to making the Donkey Kong level before me, bah!! I shall make one anyway, and mine shall be better.

Are The Collector's Lair and the boss battle against the Collector two different levels?

Tyler:

They are two different levels as some have said. As Matt says, it is a GOOD thing because whilst the boss is in no way particularly difficult, it would have made acing the one full level MUCH MUCH harder. Some of the other "bosses" throughout the game already make it difficult enough, so I was glad they seperated them.

Yana:

Anyone else reading this, make sure you've finished the game first as it spoils the ending big time. Don't say you weren't warned.

I completely agree. What's worse is the fact that I honestly felt the story itself was completely tacked on. "Oh, you've just captured me and all my friends, thrown us in a horrible jail for all eternity until some sackboy came and busted us out, now lets all just be friends?"

Horribly, horribly cheesy. I'd rather I was rescuing a princess for the 12th time from an idiotic reptile who just doesn't take no for an answer.

As I've said in an earlier post, I still enjoyed, nay, loved, the game, but the storyline needed much work. They didn't even actually mention what was going on until the 6th or 7th level!! Sure they alluded to it, but it was hardly clear or clever... I'm just glad I wasn't expecting a good story!

Sorry couldn't resist that lol
When you put that you were remaking a video game level that needed rusty platforms at different heights I knew it would be good old donky kong and remembered a few levels i saw on youtube lol
Sorry, can you ever forgive me

No. Have barely been on, but then, I rarely am.

I've only created half a level. It's nowhere near the kind of quality we've seen from some of our other creators. In fact, seeing the quality of mine compared with others reminds me I do better as a critic than as a designer.

I've also got part of a second, more secretive project underway, that's still underwraps for the moment, but that's also using the level editor. It's not a major project, but, watch this space.

3- I have so many more questions...May I ask later?

You can.

I agree completely with that, definitely. I too love the game to bits, god it is awesome, but the story is a bit all over the place. I'm the same as you, I didn't realize there was actually a story to it until about the third or fourth world! I think the reason it doesn't bother me too much is that the game is so good, if it was some crappy kinda game it would probably bother me a bit. I just wish there was much more oomph to the final battle. Some people probably won't be bothered by it but I was.

Was reading through the LBP guide yesterday and saw this note:

"A camera zone can be attached to a switch for a bit of fun."

Can someone with the game test this out and see what they mean? Perhaps the camera zone will activate once the switch is triggered (instead of the default proximity radius)?

I'm wondering if you're making fun of the constant asking of that question, sarcasm is hard to tell (sorry if you're not being sarcastic!).
No ice tool in the game. I've completed it 100%, absolutely everything. No ice tool.
Maybe later in a patch.
(Also no way to copy Mm levels, another thing that people thought might get unlocked later on.)

You won't beat the story mode without dying on your first try. It's easy enough with perceverance, but this is coming from a platforming veteran. There is no reason that everybody can't finish the game eventually, but it isn't a complete cake-walk.

Yup, no Ice what-so-ever.

cjarnol1, I just tried it with a photobooth, it works, so I don't see why it wouldn't for a camera either.

What controls the characters emotions. like anger and slapping people.

You press the D-pad in a direction up for happy, down for sad ....etc
Each emotion has 3 grades so for example if you want to be very happy you press the D-pad up 3 times

For slapping you just move your arm back and forth fast. You move your arms by holding the shoulder buttons and moving the analogue sticks
Hope that helps

How does it work if one person on the same console walks of the screen. Which sackboy does it follow? Or does it stop you from waclking?2008-10-26 20:13:00

It never stops you. To a certain extent, the screen zooms out. Past a certain point, one sackboy, usually the one that has fallen behind, though not always, will be offscreen with a sticker pointing to their location. They have 5 seconds to get back on screen, or they lose their life and must wait until the player(s) remaining can respawn them.2008-10-26 20:40:00
