Inception - The LBP2 Concept

Archive: 13 posts

Okay so yesterday I sat down and started thinking: What type of level can I make that utilizes most of the new features? And then it hit me - make a level off of the newly released movie titled Inception.

Here's my basic ideas:

1. Since Mm announced that you can use a direct control seat even if you are already in a seat (eg: A sackboy controlling a sackbot controlling another sackbot) I could use that concept for the dreams within dreams.

2. Since we are now able to directly control the gravity, I could make the anti gravity hotel scene fairly easily.

3. With the use of the new hostile AI Sackbots, I can create an affective resistance as seen in the movie.

That's just the general idea, anyways. If you have any input or ideas on what else I can do, please post away!

Thanks,

Wait...You gave me an idea for a nifty gravity trick! Thank You! I've heard a few people say they might do this, but none were to sure. Hopefully you can put this into action, Inception is one of my favorite movies.2010-08-16 02:10:00

Hey, that's pretty clever! Be sure to let us know when it's done. 2010-08-16 09:51:00

I haven't seen the film yet but this project sounds really interesting. I'm eager to see how it turns out now but there's a long time to wait.

I'll have to check out your present levels in the meantime.

Sounds good, hopefully the result will also be good.
Those mechanics will make things easier, but shouldn't rely only on those and think it will be easy. Inception was probably the best movie I have seen and I have yet to play a good level based on it (those levels that I have played weren't any good)
Try not to just quickly retell the story and put an end to it, try to get the feel of the movie in it and make it more or less LBP style but with that inception feel.
Someone who hasn't seen the movie should be able to follow the storyline and be couraged to see the movie.
I'm not trying to discourage you here, I'm just saying that a level based of inception should live up to the movie somehow. It is possible but it won't be easy as far as I'm concerned. I'm willing to help if you decide to make this together with someone.

Hopefully we will get a good music maker or some epic music to go with the level, the soundtrack of the movie is a huge part of it. I'm pretty sure it's not possible to get the exact soundtrack but if there is a music maker in LBP2, maybe someone who is good at composing music could make some great soundtracks for the level.
Just listen to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imamcajBEJs)...

Ok, I think that's all for me. I'm willing to help and can't wait to see how this turns out

Great! Thanks for the feedback everyone. Yeah, I realize that it is no east feat but you can check my architecture levels for some credibility. I will be thinking of ways to make it as intuitive and LBP-esque as possible while sticking to the feel of Inception. Of course, the plot will have to be simplified. I'll probably just end up taking the whole get-back-to-the-family aspect out and improvise with the main plot being to infiltrate that guy's mind.

On another note: I suck at making music. Anyone who can help me with the music would be given much appreciation and deserved credit

Don't forget the cutscene tool for sequences that can really be captured while playing.2010-08-21 07:16:00

Hey a fellow LBP architect But yeah, its a great idea. Inception happens to be one of my favourite movies now. The movers and gravity tool should GREATLY help you in this endeaver. Since you specialize in architecture, I won't worry about how you will make your landscapes. I think that I help w/ sackbot AI... If I am not too tied up with ?ropulse and other projects >_> Cool idea though dude. Oh yeah, dont forget to try to use the new sequencer tool to give order to the storyline.2010-08-21 12:13:00

Epic movie. Key things to create if you do this slow-mo part (things explode) where the girl discovers she in the dream, music is gonna be tough tho (it made the movie so epic), the first time the girl is in the dream when she manipulates the world and things become upside down and such. then the people (sackbots) would react by staring at her and then attacked. there's much more man thts a lot of work if this is to be good. I wouldn't mind helping maybe if you wanted it. Very complex movie so super complex lvl2010-08-22 18:40:00

How about using the new camera features to replicate that scene where the city kinda bends so that it becomes like a wall?2010-08-24 23:25:00
