O.o

Wow - Absolutely, mindblowingly awesometastic!

Ok, interesting story....

So, I'm playing around with Centurian24 in his new "Dragon" level a few months back. Fantastic, I thought. Great graphics, great style. Loved the gameplay and the dragons!

Then, I'm in the beta and I see Jaeyden has a dragon level published. Wow, I thought.... Jaeyden happens to ALSO be working on a dragon series. And they BOTH used barnacles as clouds!

Stupid me....

But fantastic to see the entire series. This is one of the most fun, complex, adrenaline charged, and polished level series I've ever seen. Fantastic job!

most epic thing ever on lbp, easy - up there with logic pack. just for the fact it's only two people, two awesome people, it's immense. ialways never think a dragon will get better, then something like this comes along. couldn't even stand trying to figure out the wiring on it, but besides that the anatomy and artistry of the things is leagues above most stuff. same with the sack cut outs even. love this stuff, glad to see the release finally and play it with people, 'cause when i got back it was the firststuff i saw and i was like "uhh... this is the level we're on now? wow"

props

Wow, this series has got to be the most exciting thing to have happened in LBP for a long time. Superb story telling, high adventure and awesome dragons throughout.

Each level had something new to offer. I loved the Intro - I've not seen one like it before. As I said in my level comment - an Oscar for every Sack in the cast! The bow and arrow and other weapons were so well done. All the dragons were amazing. The blue-green tracker dragon in Part 3 (I think) was truly challenging to get past and outwit, as was the one attempting to crush you with his fiery claws. The boss fights in levels 5 and 6 were gripping too. I especially enjoyed the flight on the huge red dragon. He looked fantastic and moved so fluidly.

Lots of cool gameplay in addition to the dragons. The mine cart ride was awesome. I had my heart in my mouth until I realised it was made of grabbable material so I could hang on for dear life. The bubble hunting was great fun. I think I've got them all now but it took some replays to do it. Even the the various platforms in the level were brilliant - the way they moved, slid from under your feet, swung around and came crashing down. The whole thing was just so exciting to play.

The scenery was great too. The scale of the castle was epic and I loved the barnacle clouds.

I know this all sounds like hyperbole but I stand by every word. This series really is that good. I gave 5 stars and a heart to every level.

Okay, I played it, here's what I thought.

I'm a sucker for dragons so it's great to see someone make a series all about them. I love how in part 2 you have the dragon create obstacles and I thought the intro was amazing and I've never seen any level have an intro like that. Also, I loved how you stuck to the theme by instead of having a paintinator, you had a bow and arrow to shoot at dragons. The dragon battles were fun. The first was a tiny bit frustrating but I liked fighting the baby dragons and I liked the green dragon boss since it made you run to places to defend yourself and use all kinds of awesome weapons, not just the bow and arrow actually. The scenery was awesome and I extremely loved the ending of part 3 where it shows you on the scoreboard but this entire piece of the dungeon your on falls and I love the camera angles for it and everything. The final boss battle was great and I loved flying that little plane and finsing out his weakspot so I could aim there when shooting the bow nd arrow at him on land. Overall, I gave every level :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 Great job. I just mentioned it on my blog by the way.

Incredible! Man, this was epic. That's the understatement of the year. This was astonishing. The levels were the perfect lengths for me, you couldn't peel me from the game when I was going through these. Masterful stuff.

Highlights for me - riding the speeding dragon through the stormy sky.
The "killing blow". You know the one. "This is for my hamster Admiral Nibbles! Hi-YAAAAAAAAAAA!!" *smash*
The ship in the second level was stupendous. One of the best uses of the layer glitch I've seen during the ship-sailing segment - on the sails as well as the background. You really found a way to make that glitch invisible, it all felt so natural. Your magical invisible moving checkpoint was also wonderful.

Just a total blast all around, and with the LBP2 beta around the corner, just a fantastic send-off for LBP1. Anyone is going to be hard-pressed to top this in the next couple months.

And now I'm late
I played the levels when they were just published, 10 plays a couple of hearts and a miserable 3 stars rating.

First I saw the design of the dragon in a pic anpost randomly showed in his pod, then I already saw the dragon chase level on the beta and I was breathless.
First thing that impressed me was the fact that Jay and Centurion24 made some of it.
We all know Jay for his wonderful quick gameplay stuff, I absolutely loved the first version of Grinder, and still I curse you for the uptenth time to having modded it and not kept the original
Well, Centurion is Centurion, with all his crazy drop the controller stuff and lighting fast gameplay.

The story is a bit cliched, really a thunder on the forhead? LOL, but the way it's told is top notch.
Everything is amazing, polished to an incredible level, and the design is superb, masterfully crafted.
The action sequences are smooth, neat, perfect, and the level length is cut cleverly.

The highest point of jaw dropping and excitement was the fight with the kid dragon; it moves so perfectly, and can snipe you so easily that I can't even imagine what kind of great logic is behind that.

This is one of the greatest series in the game, a series that everyone with taste will think is just too short, but you left quite an open ending, and LBP2 is around the corner.
But please don't start it as soon as you get into it, but master the Tools like you did with LBP, we want some other spicey incredile stuff saved before LBP3 comes out

First thing I did after finishing the level was messaging some friends to tell them: go play, enjoy yourself and let's give a desrved kick to this level to sent it high and visible.

These levels skyrocket straight to the Olympus of LBP.
Thanks a lot guys.
Good work and keep on rockin'!

Freaking gorgeous, innovative gameplay that truly leaves you with your jaw firmly dropped on the carpet from level 1 through level 6. Standing ovation for real... Incredible work.

Hundreds of stars and still fast beating from all the excitement, few dozen hearts. {{{ Wow }}}

I had my doubts about the LBP2 style level linking system, but it totally works. You made the levels the right length.

+ Loved that flame/fire frame in the intro. + 1 point for dialog free story. - 1 point for lightning scar chiche.
- On the first play of part 4, one of the big rocks blocked the exit from the hole at the start. The cart also flipped upside down on first the reverse direction bit, but that might be "gameplay" idk.
+ I have been meaning to ask this, how do you make string/chains increase in scale?
- On part 6, the checkpoint moved from the back neck of the dragon, and kept spawning me lower, not landing on the neck but falling into the front leg or gas. There is a visible bolt on the back leg btw.
I have some other minor niggles, tell me if you want me to post em.
- Biggest annoyance throughout the series was the use of the invisble thin gas. Not because of layer switching, but I felt ripped off when I couldn't take apart that awesome red dragon. He was my favourite one, I uploaded a pic in the level.
- And it sucks how you divided up the levels on different PSNs (hard to find a certain part if you want to replay it). Hopefully LBP2 solves that problem.

I won't go into to all the good stuff, (there is a lot) and I'm sure other people will do that for me.
Highlight for me was the dialog-less story, the glider, and the way the final dragon fell. Looked very natural.
I rated them all 5 stars, and hearted the 1st and last levels.
Pretty epic stuff. I would be proud if I were you guys.

+ I have been meaning to ask this, how do you make string/chains increase in scale?
To increase the chains you must enlarge the objects you chained, and they chain will get bigger (Thanks Comphy for telling me)

Anyway, I'm happy that the series starts kicking its stride.

Funny you should say that
Jaeyden and myself have been toying with the idea of a archery minigame. Knowing jaeyden it will go from 1 to 3 minigames.

So I played the series with Teebs and Compher, and I'm pretty much speechless...
you two had shown me bits and pieces before, but I never thought it was going to be to this scale.
All I gotta say is that this was freaking amazing! Those dragons are the most detailed characters I've seen in LBP!
Everything was simply incredible!

Congrats guys!

WOAH! I played these levels right after seeing this thread. Well worth it! I'm not lying when I say this:
That was the best level series on LBP! Seriously! Awesome job guys
I liked the way you told the story without any speech bubbles, just with pictures and moving cardboard cutouts.
The dragons were awesome, the chase in the beginning was really really awesome, I liked it.
Out of the six levels I would say that the fourth (???, I'm not sure which one it was...) was the best. The one with the little dragon. I loved it! That was seriously one of the best boss-fights in LBP, it offered so much variety. The way the dragon follows you is just awesome, I can imagine you must have spent a lot of time working on that.
The bow was something I haven't seen on LBP before, and I must say it is also the best custom weapon I've seen on LBP. This series was just pure awesomeness.
The levels as individual levels weren't too long but I can see why you split it in 6 parts, well worth it. The visuals and overall quality of those levels was just EPIC!

I really liked the level where you reach the scoreboard and then it comes all crashing down, that's how you should end a level, not just be safe at the scoreboard and think "that's it"
Very nice cliffhanger ending, too. I'm pretty sure that means we can expect more from you in the future

:star::star::star::star::star: + <3 for every level and also creator hearts for both of you. You should get crowns for this project (unless you already have crowns, I don't know )

PS: That baby dragon is too accurate XD. He's pretty good for just coming out the egg.

I think the intro is the winning ticket to this series of levels... simply put, the intro is amazing! I hate cutouts, it's just my pet-thing... I see no creativity to it... but boy Jaeyden did you show me! With no dialogue balloons I wasn't alotted the extra time to curl my lip in disgust... It was really really well done. For myself, it is the highwater mark for the series, the only thing that comes close to it... are some really BRILLIANT dragons! So I had a smile going into the next level... something echoed again and again in this series with clever scoreboard design.

You guys are both really great but I was slightly dissapointed in what followed the brilliant Intro. Partly because, the posters before me... got me all geeked-up for this thing!!!! I was 'over-hyped'. (This is still LBP afterall.) Still, I will say it is far more consistent in style and of a higher caliber than most levels on LBP...

One of the earliest levels is really short, it was over before it even began (for me)... I loved the bow and arrow and how it was carried through to the end... (a bit of genius there; in mechanic and storytelling). The mine cart ride was very well done but hardly exciting-- I will say it flipped over on me twice which I wasn't to keen on. ( and not the part where you had to jump) The Keep, initially confused me slightly with its' glitched foreground layers but it was here I realized that you guys really know your audience... and I am not probably at it's core. I mean... this is a simple tale, all are meant to be able to see the end-- nothing too difficult or challenging here... I might say, I am bor... what!?! the heck was that? A buzzing flame toteing baby dragon? Wow, Back to being genius's again... I don't know about Fate... but I am sure fickle

Your scoreboard transition that start/end each level are real smart... there's a lot smartly done here... including the sheild toteing duck-out, chuck a spear, paintanator-less, paintanator battle mechanic. I LOL at your anime style of directing fast-action cutting to the CU while yielding the axe... (ah, the limited cameras of LBP) Still, excellent storytelling... (I know you both are salivating as much as I-- at the prospect of getting your hands on those NEW storytelling TOOLS.)

I love love love those foreground checkpoints... except in level 6... which was completely ruined for me... that level has got some problems. I wouldn't have published it in its present form... In the begining, the level never started, as there is obviously some 'mechanic' I failed to do properly... perhaps I didn't hold 'r1' long enough... either way there was no 'tether occuring'... Had to quit-out! Second try and third try were both ruined by failed spawning points... On the fourth play I instantly knew what to do and made no mistakes... the final confronatation was very much deflated and anti-climatic... (which is a shame because that dragon is goregous and I Like the bow mechanic...) I didn't even have any real indication the battle was over... or, if the dragon was just in retreat... (maybe if there was a heartbeat sound effect that stopped...) you guys should hire another dragon because that one just can't act! So anyway... he wasn't in retreat as theres nothing but flames off to the left... ah's well.

A good series of short levels... that starts on a high note and end on a sour note. In between are some memorable visuals and mechanics of finely crafted stylized gameplay by two of the communities finest.

I wouldn't dare insult you with hearts or stars... these levels are must plays! ...and while this review could only be construed as harsh by what has come before, I gotta say, my experience with level 6 coloured all that came before.

Hey, you probably already fixed it judging by the last post but I played the series again to show some friends a couple days ago and in the 6th level when you find the dragon's weakspot and get on land and he moves his head up and down and then he moves his head down but it did't go back up so I couldn't shoot at his neck to kill him. 2010-08-19 02:26:00

Hey guys, so I played this incredible series and was blown away, here?s my feedback and in return I would like feedback on my FIRESTARTER level:

*Warning spoilers*

Introduction:
Easily my favorite introduction ever on a level. The way the story without speec was inspiring and unique. The way the characters moved slightly for each scene brought the whole thing to life and the visuals were more than excellent- cut out sackboys have never looked so good! Also the dragon design was impeccable. One thing I was expecting and slightly disappointed I didn?t get was another image of the dragon right at the end of the intro? the music builds up so well! And you leave all the suspense for the scoreboard, in darkness?
Levels 2-5:

Positives-

Visuals:
Excellent mostly. I loved the little villag, the ship, eggs cracking, also the castle was impressively put together and of course incredible dragons. Another point was the use of invisible checkpoints! This series of levels defo didn?t need checkpoints hanging around, they would really look out of place. Another positive was the track with the lil cart? duno why, it just stood out that it looked pretty realistic and I liked how the curves were all identical. Also, the chains and movements were nicely done. Liked the custom switches too, one last mention were the chains, ropes, objects and platforms were all well placed?overall really impressed.

Mechanics:
First off, was seriously impressed by your bow and arrow. Very nice little mechanic, and its great how the arrow stops whenever it meets an object in its path! I was pleased to see at one point, the arrow even stuck into a ladder which I just lowered. Then, u surprised me again with some super cool spears and sword actions.
Enjoyed the first time u meet the dragon where he tries to squash u with his hands? it was good to see the dragon for the first time without having to have an epic boss fight.

The next most notable impressive mechanic (and one which I couldn?t work out how ud created) was the little baby dragon which tracks u and flames u as u cross a section. Its not often I come across something in lbp which I cant work out how its created, but this is for sure one of the ones I couldn?t figure out. Did u use a 3D player tracker? Or a random searching dragon which will occasionally fire in the right direction? Seriously, im clueless and would love a chance to look at it.
Overall, the custom switches and chains and bits and bobs and? were all excellent. I noticed how when the rotating chain pull thingies started up they slowly sped up- good. These extra effects were a great touch for the level. Also, I enjoyed how the levels were packed with details but were not overly long. The set took me 30 mins to finish but u could easily have dragged these out into 2 hours? that would have been a poor decision.

Negatives-

Not that many tbh.

I thought the only section which really lacked visual appeal were the carts. Also I didn?t like how the front wheel was spinning ridiculously quickly to get the cart going.

Close up of the dragons once they were about to die? couldn?t really see why we needed all the different close ups- were they all looking at different arrows?

The end screen (the one in the box which rises) needed adjusting? for some reason it didn?t rise with both of us inside, I think one of us was too far left out of the sensor switch radius.

Camera movement (major): really didn?t enjoy some of the methods u used to move ur cameras, some were circular, some linear? this lack of consistency was annoying and I think u should consider just using a block with a camera on a piston (not stiff and 0.1 or 0.2 period) for every time u want a shaking effect. Easy and looks good too.

Level 6:

Started really well, again nice use of spear mechanic to grab onto the dragon and then the glider was amazing. So onto the dragons back? slight lag, annoying but I?ll let u off cos the dragon looks so cool. Onto the boss fight.

My main complaint really?
It was such a shame to get all that way and then only have a bow to fight a massive dragon. We had already seen a sword and spear, why not have loads more of these? So I sat behind the bow and arrow wondering if I was meant to do something more than just randomly fire at the dragon. The level occasionally zoomed into somewhere on his neck so I fired there too. I don't know why but I wasn?t killed that often by the dragon, considering the baby one got me loads I was disappointed to see that the big one was effectively weaker than the kid

Anyway I carried on firing and it eventually died, this section really lacked gameplay skill.

I think if u could give the player something extra to do other than aim the bow, it would improve this section no end.

Anyway, we finish the level in a similar cinematic style to the intro and I really enjoyed the little twist u added in? wat a surprise!

Well, don't get me wrong the final level is fantastically created just like the others. It's just too easy for such a massive and epic journey.

Overall, what an impressive set of levels. Everyone needs to see this set, although im sure most will as they?re all up there on the cool pages.
5 stars and a heart for each.

Looking forward to the next series from u two!

Thanks, lyn.

Ps: Please give feedback on Firestarter, but don't feel it necessary to be as long as this? the series is 6 levels long after all!

Id give the levels 5 stars based just on the insanely well made dragons. Add the scenic details unique mechanics used in the gameplay and great story and you would have to be crazy not to think this is the most epic series in lbp. Its taken you a long time to finish all the levels but playing them in sequence definitly makes it worth the effort.

Amazing as usual guys .

This is definitely one of the best series in LBP! The introduction was, without a doubt, my favorite part. I absolutely loved the style and how you managed to tell the story without any text. Very well done. The rest of the levels were short, but packed with great visuals and gameplay. My favorite sequence had to be the area where you running from cover to cover, throwing swords, axes, and anything else you can find at the dragon in front of you. It felt unique and worked wonderfully.

The bow and arrow, while cool, was pretty difficult for me to aim and at times during the last boss fight, it became very frustrating. As for the last boss fight, I had feelings similar to ladylyn1. I too just sat there on the bow, firing like crazy until I beat him. I didn't think it was bad by any means, but I loved the earlier sequence (the one that I mentioned above) so much that I don't know if anything could have surpassed it!

It's a fantastic series though and I throughly enjoyed it! Well done!

My son just stumbled on the intro to this on the Cool Page...

OMG.. I am so playing this...

edit: When somebody makes a level like this, filled with detail and polish that I didn't think possible, I never quite know what to say. It's incredible.

This time, though, I do have one little problem. Probably a freak accident, but the huge and breathtaking red dragon in level 3 kept squashing me. No prob, until it's claws found themselves right over the checkpoint, and I couldn't proceed. Big guy was relentlessly patting me on the head, killing me every time. Hilarious, but annoying. LOL

We went on to level four though, and it won't detract at all from the rating. There aren't enough hearts and stars to say how impressive this all is.

A-Freakin-mazing!! I seriously can't think of anything that I didn't like about these levels... and that's something for me. I can ALWAYS find something to complain about. Ok, I guess there were a few parts where I felt a bit blind-sided by dragon fire, but I figure it wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't been rushing headlong into things. This is my new favorite level(s). Great job guys.

I just can't get over how cool the bows and spears and stuff were!

Also, loved the teaser ending with the other egg.

[EDIT] And the intro level: freakin awesome! Loved the moving comic book style.

Thanks guys, I had a great time playing through these, it's a rare treat to go through a 6 level series in one go!

Hard to know where to begin when singling out my favourite parts, every chapter had it's own charms and 'wow' moments. The dragons themselves were beautifully made and animated, all the architecture and detailing were fantastically solid and crafted, and the weapons gave everything a fresh twist. And I loved the way each scoreboard came with it's own unique touches. Epic and A++!

Wow uuh. This is definitely one if not the best series I have played in LBP! Everything was so well done! The details on the environment, the "epicness" of the bosses, the story as a whole, and the pure mayhem!!! This was spectacular, definitely a series I will play through more than once! Every single one earned 5 stars and a heart from me! Sigh... after playing your levels, I cannot even bear to look at mine anymore. 2010-08-22 15:13:00

Short review time!

The levels are very rich in terms of game mechanics and visuals, but other than the dragons and weapons, the castles and environments are not that great. These great and noble dragons deserve better!

Ty I worked hard on those dragons, but just the head alone takes up 40% therm so building levels around them was a huge challenge for us. While I'm commenting on high therm items, I'd like to say that the boat was 65% therm.

40% therm for the head? You couldn't shave that? What all is in the head? Anyway, that first half or so of the thermo is kinda' deceptive. It fills up more quickly at the beginning and then starts slowing down unless you keep adding new objects (meaning the 3d model Mm objects). Still, 40% for a head is a lot. We're talking about the red dragon, right? I'll have to play it again and take a closer look.2010-08-22 23:47:00

No shaving, no text and no paintguns. That was the rule. That's why some of the levels are short.2010-08-23 00:13:00

Without doubt, the most polished, most professional, most skillfully executed level series in LBP.

Right from the off, it wordlessly (& effortlessly) engrosses you in the story-line, of the Young Orphaned Boy-Prince raised by the wise-old master on a quest to avenge the death of his father The King.

The level designs are perfect - perfectly encapsulating the environments they represent... the castle, the dragons lair, etc.

The pacing of the story spread over the 6 levels is also masterful, with a linear progression that Mm themselves should envy (compared to their story levels).

I loved every single moment, from beginning to end.

I don't see how anyone can top these levels.... we may as well collectively give up making levels - as they will all pale in comparison to these works of genius.

5 stars and hearts all round - I only wish there was more accolade I could give

So I just finished playing this awesome new commercial level pack called Dragon Slayer - but somehow I got away without having to pay the standard six bucks for it. SWEET!

Seriously guys, this is amazing work. That intro level was so brilliant and so well done -- I shudder to think what creators of your caliber will do with the tools in LBP2. The only thing I don't like about levels this awesome is how they make me feel like I shouldn't even bother to try to create stuff because I can't get anywhere close to that level.

I played through with my 2 kids, and we did run into one problem at the end of level 4 (I think it's 4) when the scoreboard lifts up out of the chest - it didn't register the 'end' for us no matter where we stood. After fiddling around with it for a while we just quit to pod and went on to the next one.

Thanks so much for all the hard work you put in on this! It was incredible to play through!

As people have mentioned, I got a feeling that I get from Mm levels.

I really wasn't expecting much, just a ordinary level series. I hadn't seen this thread and the pics so I was blown away when I seen the intro and the 2nd level. From there, I steadily fell in love with every dragon I took down with my trusted bow and arrow and random weapons of mass destruction.

:star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 for every level.

Oh, and congrats for the spotlight!

Excellent work, gentlemen! By the way, does this have anything to do with the Dragon Slayer games of the 8-bit era? I was a big fan of Dragon Slayer VI, so the coincidence (or is it?) that this had 6 levels kinda drew me in.

Also, this made me realise I should never do a project with someone who's name is half the length of my own. Poor Centurion24's play counts!

Adi showed me the first (intro) level,
thats some hellova good way to do an intro/cutscene!

I yet need to play the levels inbetween, but I did fight the boss with adi.
Even though getting to the boss is very cool, (and the dragon looks awesome)

I found the final battle kind of bland,
Personally I did not really like the way the bow is used and I honestly think a ballista would be better.
One switchthingy for shooting, the other for changing its angle.

Also.. the boss.. kinda just dissapears on you.. not something you would expect after an "epic" fight.
If I slayed a dragon, I want it to scream.. go berserk.. and finally drop his head and neck into the floor..
Maybe even use something big to drop onto him to make sure he is finished off.

The ending is cool though, obtaining the crown and all.

So for now, much kudo's for intro level..
little less for the final bossfight.

ill play the rest later today/tomorrow!

Well guys, I simply must applaud you for a truly epic series. I decided to give the intro a go, and just couldn't stop playing them! xD I loved the fact that there were no speech bubbles in the intro, enhanced it as an experience so much! The design was spectacular throughout, some truly mind blowing dragons! Gameplay was quite awesome, personally I loved the bow and arrow, I just felt so cool using it, even though it was a bit hard to aim.

One little thing that really stood out was the hatching egg sequence. Lemme guess; Using paint to strip stickers and make the cracks appear? That's what I'd try anyway!

While things got tough at some points (I did die quite a lot, couldn't get the hang of the final boss) I thoroughly enjoyed the levels! I always thought a medieval style level would be cool, I was so right! However, it was the little things that made this series special. Good job lads.

You did a great job there !
I played the six levels in a row and it's really amazing the render you managed to give to your levels.
I mean, the perfect use of the different layers depth, the dragons design, the character designs, the weapons, the stone and the wooden parts of the castle everything was just beautiful !
You must have spent so many hours on this !
Anyway a deserved :star::star::star::star::star: on each levels
