Tutorials

Well, we do currently have a tutorials (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?75-Tutorials&order=desc) section... but at the moment it is, well, severely lacking.

I currently have a "Tutorial Spotlight", but, well, I just can't do that. <_>

So I would like a bit more "focus" on the Tutorial forum. Perhaps a tutorial Request thread, where people can request tutorials to be made of a specific thing, or to make them.

There are a lot of things to make tutorials about, and right now it's really hard to be able to find where the right one is. Like, for example, this guy (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=32770-The-Sims) wants to know how to make a money system. I think that allowing people to request tutorials or having more people make tutorials for common big stuff like this would be good.

So yeah, I think the tutorials section should be in bigger focus. Guess that's it.

Totally agree. I couldn't find them to be honest. I don't think they should be only a sub-forum of "help".
I only found it because of a sig link.
When I did reach it I read a heap of tutorials, (I have a bunch bookmarked for next time I'm on my PS3), most are very helpful. I found some things I didn't even know about.

I think it should be its own forum, not a subforum.2010-08-14 23:07:00

Totaly. And it should be placed somewhere uptop of the main forum page (By default) along with "Help!".

I agree with everyone's replies here. The tutorials here are some of the best I've ever read and they can seriously help everyone.2010-08-15 02:57:00

Why not make a tutorials request thread this way we can bulk up the sub forum enough to make the mods think why is this a sub forum make it dedicated in fact I'll make the thread right now if I have the support of some other people.2010-08-19 17:25:00

a tutorials request thread is basically the help forum, remade into a mess and requiring more work from those that wish to respond.

I've always thought tutorials should be it's own forum though.

There is a very big difference between Tutorials and Tips.

The Help forum is just people asking for tips, and people respond to their specific questions.

Tutorials would give out general, broad explanations on how to do stuff.

It's like the Logic Pack vs someone making a custom level to answer people's questions... or something like that.

For a clue on what I'm thinking, check here (http://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/index.php/HOWTO.html). Obviously that's for RPGs, but a large guide like that would be nice. ... would also be nice if it was part of a wiki. /cough

As it stands, the Help Forum allows people to ask questions because there is no general place to find info. A tutorial request thread would allow people to suggest threads that should have tutorials, but yeah. In the end, the Help Forum on its own just doesn't cut it :/

I totally agree that the Tutorial section needs some more attention and definitely its own forum. It's one of the most useful sections on this site.2010-08-19 23:05:00

Yep, this should definitely not only be a sub-forum.2010-08-20 00:42:00

I agree. Let's go for it.

EDIT: Navbar links rearranged a tiny bit, and a "Tutorials" link added in the mix, right after "Objects." Should draw even more attention to the section.

I still think a tutorials request thread would be useful, we have the help section but the tutorial request thread would be a more general thing it'd be like solving the problem before anyone ever bothers to ask it...2010-08-22 16:30:00

Well, methinks someone should make one, and bother a mod about stickying it. And finally unstickying my tutorial spotlight. Someone should manage that, but it sure as banland ain't me.2010-08-22 16:36:00

I'd quite happily make one but I don't know everything there to need to know so we'd have to form a little group of people willing to make tutorials.2010-08-22 16:41:00

@Rock: I don't think trying to generate millions of tutorials is much of a priority at the moment, more-so just making existing tutorials more accessible.

I'll be 100% behind you upon the arrival of LBP2 though!

When those particular floodgates open we'll be inundated with tutorials showing people how to do all the randomest of things.

Although not to toot my own horn or anything but... (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=17706-Need-inspiration-to-think-up-a-good-level-name)

I'd suggest we add tutorials to the community spotlight, but we kinda got a heavy workload already

EDIT: Tell you what, I wouldn't mind setting a tutorial request thread up. I wanna post something. I'll go do that now, sticky it (or delete it) if you like, but please don't infract me!

EDIT: Done it! (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=33879-Tutorial-Requests&p=588294)

Wow, that flopped really badly. I'm embarrassed now...
