Mining Mishaps (Spotlighted)

Archive: 38 posts

http://lbp.me/v/s4czyb
What's this all about?

This started off as a remake of my previous two mine levels - but turned into much more as I came up with fresh idea after idea - so I actually turned out not to use many of the obstacles from the previous two! The visuals have been given a massive overhaul, as well as different effects and lighting being used.

You are Sackboy, and once again you find yourself in a troublesome situation. For one reason or another, you have decided that it would be a good idea to lower yourself into an abandoned mine. Obviously, because you are made solely of stuffing, it turns out that your idea wasn't such a clever one after all, and you must then struggle to find your way to safety, using different objects in the mine to aid your journey - such as leftover explosives, and moveable mining carts. So why not join our hero on yet another quest?

Make it to the end - and earn yourself a sticker to use at the beginning of the level to turn on the race mode. There are also three secrets which are very carefully hidden in the level. Can you find them all?

Awesomeness. I was there throughout it's creation and I loved all of it(your minecart ride is much better XD). Some of the rock scenery is a little choppy during the minecart ride but it doesn't detract from it.

5 stars and heart.

Also, there'd be a survival if rtm checked his pms >.>

Hey!

Thanks! Hmmm... wondering about comments - thought there'd be more :S
Oh well!

Rtm DID PM back - unfortunately he's kinda busy right now, and he PMed a bit too late - but that's fine!
Glad you liked it - and again - thanks for helping me create!

Anyone else got any feedback for me?

I thought there'd be more comments too... The piggabling will bring commenters!

Anyway, it looks very nice and you're right at home making mine levels! I'm sure it'll be good! I'll try to play it if LBP will let me... Grr...

I played your level pretty late last night so forgive me if my recollection of the detail is a bit hazy. The two things which really stood out for me though were the lighting and the puzzles. The lighting was just great. I think you've improved tenfold in this department since the first level. I loved the shafts of brighter light piecing the red glow here and there. It made the whole thing less uniform in look. The rest of the visuals were as cool as ever too.

The puzzles were ingenious and they all worked very smoothly too. In your earlier levels some of the puzzles were a bit fiddly to complete (pulling mine carts around onto platforms etc) but these were a pleasure to do.

I'll play and again and give you any other feedback which occurs to me but those were my first impressions. I know I had a lot of fun playing it anyway. I also can't remember if got all 3 secrets so I definitely need to give it another go.

What there were secrets?...Anyway i thought the level cool. I really liked your explosions and camera shaking. The lighting was very nice, too. The puzzles were straight-forward and were great to pull off. You make me want to redo my first level . Also I like your layer management. The transitions through the rooms were smooth. The mine cart ride was very cinematic. I really liked that part the most. I would say your design has got better since your last levels but I wish you would hide those straight lines in the wall. You could use the corner editor and make them jagged so it looks like a crack in the wall or put a thin layer in front of it. (It just bothers me seeing a straight line in a jagged cave/mine.) 5 stars and a <3 from me.

I wanted to be in your beta but I have the key glitch so I didnt bother asking . You could f4f my level Kinetic Crisis if you haven't played it already or you could wait til my new level beta comes out soon

I haven't played your earlier levels, so I don't have a frame of reference, but I really dug this. The mine cart ride was thrilling! I thought the lighting was a little too dark in places to see what I was supposed to do, but I can be pretty thick sometimes. It took awhile, but I got through it, and all the payoffs were satisfying.

There was one spot, right where you get your first paintgun, where I fell through the floor and had to pop myself. Might want to look into that.

I thought it was a brilliant level though, worth five stars and a heart in my book! No idea why it isn't getting more plays.

I'd love an F4F on my newest level, Invasion of the Sack Men From Space! if you have the time!

Hey all!

Thanks for all your comments and feedback so far - I'll have to do your F4F a bit later seeing as I'm not home at the moment - but don't worry - I will get around to it when I'm back home

Yup - believe it or not there are acually three secrets hidden in there! I think this is my best level yet - I've come a long way since I released the originals and I feel that this is way better.

Not sure about the whole falling through the floor thing - I've never had that problem before when I've tested! I'll try and recreate that so I can fix it - but may have just been a one off? If anyone else encounters this, please let me know!

Now, pay attention all...

Competition:
If you can find all three secrets, upload a picture of the end (where it shows how many secrets you've got) onto this thread, with all three secrets uncovered, and the first 2 get awarded 100xp!
Note: This won't apply to any of the testers who have found all of the secrets, or the people who played with me during testing when I showed them the secrets - sorrry guys! Wouldn't be fair to the others!

Thanks everyone!

Love the look already, just started (I comment as I go). Falling rocks have and will always be my friend, so... nice. My brother commented, saying it looks like D'ni (a Myst thing, don't worry if you don't know... it's a good thing).

Loved blowing open the door!!!

Felt like a ninja on the rope. This is an accomplishment, since I'm fairly "special" at platforming and jumping about.

Jumping with the cart is a bit difficult. I couldn't get it to go so I could get those points, and thought it simply didn't bounce at all. And when I did get it to bounce, I found it difficult to tap the R1 button so lightly.

Moving the whole room up made me happy inside.

The In/Out gates were well done, too!

And the mine cart ride was great. I expected just another ordinary ride, but there were explosions! I might put some points to jump for, just to add to the challenge.

All in all, great level! Well done, top notch, all that stuff. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3!

If you would kindly give some feedback for my level, Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy - Part II (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=33062-Commander-Keen-Goodbye-Galaxy-Part-II), I'd appreciate it.

Wow! Glad to hear you guys liked it! Anything wrong with it at all - any other glitching?

You two - you found the secrets - and I thought they were well hidden! Obviously not hidden enough.... I'll send your xp over now

The mine cart with the bounciness is a little odd - but I reckon it's workable!
Feedback coming right up!

Thanks!

Anyone else wanna leave feedback? It's not doing too well online... only like 31 plays!
And for some reason it's not showing how many stars - it's not that there's low ratings - it's that no rating simply is there - it's just rated as.... nothing?

Just played your level tonight and it was awesome! You really do like making mine levels do you? lol
I remembered that I like your previous mine levels so I did not hesitate to play this one. I also didn't know you made that other level in meaning (Tunnel something...) Played that one and I had some good fun!

One of the first things I noticed is that you evolved (for the better) in matter of visuals and gameplay. What I played tonight is a more enjoyable, more solid, more polished and more "clear" level that you first mine levels attempts (that were good nonetheless). I have been very delighted through and through and you really really got me at the air push part ( you know what I mean, that part where you used rocket smoke for hazard). I really found that original and ingenious. Another thing to notice in that level is that you make the objectives clearer and have a better camera work. The player sees what he needs to see, effortlessly.

I also have a little bug for you: That first smoke part, second pit. Sometimes you get smoke (and gaz) from the lower floor pit! It looked to me like the lower floor gaz was going too high and reaching in the upper floor.

So yeah, great level mate. Don't hesitate to poke me when you release a new level 'cause looks like I like your stuff and will play your futur work. Continue the good job

(Tunnel something...)

I think it's tunnel vision. I remember when joining lbpcentral I couldn't respond and I saw the thread for needing beta testers for tunnel vision and I really wanted to test it but I couldn't respond yes to get that code but I got to play it when it was out. Good times

Thanks for the xp. That was a fun contest! Nice idea and the secrets weren't easy to find! That first one in particular had me stumped for a while.

In replaying the level to get the secrets I was impressed again with how dynamic his level is. The falling rocks at the start and then all the explosions with the camera shake and lighting effects make the whole thing more exciting to play. That together with the general improvement in lighting throughout and the neat level design and cool puzzles make this definitely your best work so far.

Have you anything else in the pipeline or are you waiting for LBP2?

Thanks! I wanted it to be as interactive as possible, and to feel as if you were in the level as much as I could. The explosion at the beginning was very difficult to make - took me hours!

I'm waiting for LBP2 - I'm fresh out of ideas!
Just wondering... does anyone know why my level has almost no plays? Just curious...

Great level Standby. The lighting of the mines looked brilliant but some darker areas seem to give me a hard time seeing some switches and stuff until I squint a little. The mines is also well made with corner edit tool and the puzzles are amazing too. The mine cart ride is fun too but I died instantly 3 times for some reasons [first time the left wheel broke and the second and third time the car flipped upside down after the first jump and I fell into an invisible gas] but the 4th time is a major success. Overall this level deserves 5 stars and a heart.

Hey there Justin!

Thanks for leaving feedback! Sorry for the late reply though...
The darkness thing is tricking me - it seems totally fine on my TV here at home, and other players don't seem to be having this problem. However, when I played it at my girlfriend's house, I too found it a little dark for my liking. I'm not sure if it was just their TV though...
Glad you liked the puzzles! As for the mine cart ride, I know there are a few problems there in terms of the cart tipping over. However, I learnt during testing that I couldn't really correct it easily, as every time I tried, it caused all sorts of other problems in other places. So, instead, I made it so if you did die, then you could just respawn and try again, rather than remain stuck in the level. I'm happy to hear you liked it though!!

I'll leave feedback for you soon! Thanks for playing!

Wow, I absolutely loved this level! It's hard to find new good mines levels nowadays, but this one was amazing! I am impressed with all the different puzzles and obstacles! (It is so hard for me to think of stuff like that....) I really did not find anything wrong with this level. I loved the way you used lighting throughout the level, the scenery was fantastic! (I love me some good scenery and environment.)

I just played this and there wasn't anything I'd change about this level. Everything was really well built with a nice selection of materials and good details as well.

What really stood out about the level for me was the logic on display. Instead of the typical go here and pull this switch go there and pull that switch set up, it was more a matter of pulling all the switches and hitting buttons to see what they did. Then figuring out from there what order to use them.

The way you set up how to use the paint gun was really clever, and took me a while to realize what to do. Very high quality work all around, I was very impressed.

xD I just played this because it looked cool and boy was it. This level was fantastic. Creative gameplay was always present and the atmosphere was held perfectly. Great job with everything. Now I just need to find at least 1 secret. >.> I didn't manage to find a single one. I'll play it later with another person too because there seemed to be a lot of 2x areas. Very neat level.

No need to F4F if you want because mine are old and such, but feel free to just play the levels in my sig if you want.

[b]Mining Mishaps[b]

Positives:
I liked your lighting and selection of music. I loved your use of the light when the explosives go off at the beginning! I liked your puzzles. They were simple but still well done.

Suggestions:
I didn't realize the box was an explosive until it blew me up. I was trying to use is as a jump box. I heard the warning buzzer, but it would have been nice if there was a visual clue as well.

Overall I gave you :star::star::star::star:.

Hi, I'm goint to write this review as I play

The intro is pretty cool, and the music helps to create a good atmosphere.
I liked a lot the rope. How did you create it
Really nice gameplay and puzzles, specially the part with the car you have to push. Nevertheless I think you should change the behaviour of the system to jump. It should push you when you stop grabbing, instead of when you grab.
I love the part where you have to move the platforms. Really nice
Also very good puzzle with the paint gun and the lifts.
In the final race, when you are in the mine car, first time I used it just stopped moving and had to kill myself. I had to retry

Overall is a great level, with a lot of origal puzzles and pretty good platforming too. In the visual aspect, you created a very good atmosphere. :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 from me

Would you like to try mi level "The tanks factory2" and give me some feedback? Thank you.

Hey there! This is actually quite a hard effect to achieve. Basicly, the lights are achieved by fairy lights which are on the brightest setting, and the radios is increased, so you can no longer see the light itself. If you use about 2 of these, using colours like red and white, you then get a kind of blinding effect. Gasify the lights, and add a magnetic key on invisible material. Then, capture these - and it's invisible. You then need to emit them - for however long you want them to be there for. If you put down some magnetic switches on the background of the place where the explosion will be, using the same colour as the keys which are emitted, you can then hook it up so that these sounds are activated only while the explosion is happening (aka. when the magnetic key is there). You can also use the earthquake type effect during this time and make it so the rumbling is only happening whilst the explosion is happening - if that makes sense?
